The Rock inn in Bridgend

Worst Buddha bowl ever, fried Lettuce,Broccoli, Asparagus and deep fried Cauliflower along with pureed & peas. Chef needs to read the recipe. Never go there again.

We chose the special 2 course lunch for £12.65, had the main and dessert, the main was very bland and was missing onion, tomato and mushroom that you would usually have with a steak, when we mentioned this were told it would cost more. Our thoughts were well it was cheap, so can't expect the best. Then the bill arrived and it was an extra £8 each per person, when we asked about this thinking we had been overcharged, we we told there is an extra premium on a Saturday, there was nothing shown on the menu about this, and if you read the board outside the pub it is not shown on there either. We mentioned this to the waitress and she just said sorry she forgot to mention it. Well my friend and I will never visit this place again. We would like to warn others the extra charges are a disgrace. If we were informed about this before we ordered we would have chosen from the normal menu.

It's like a maze inside the floor between the kitchen and toilet is slippery when wet I found Overall the Sunday Roast was plenty did not like the red cabbage it had a smokey taste the parsnip was deep fried but seasonal veg was fresh and cooked perfectly and plenty of gravy we did not get to have dessert we were told we had to go as the table was needed for the next customer even though we'd only been sat an hour this dampend the entire meal they had clearly over booked which was not our fault but their own calculation what a shame

The service is outstanding with attentive, friendly, composed and efficient. The Sunday lunch is very impressive, tender and juicy beef cooked to perfection with stunning and flavourful sides and gravy. Thaw ambiance and atmosphere is inviting, cozy. The Rock is a top notch dining destination which I highly recommend. A wonderful experience in every way, charm and really beautiful food makes any visit an absolute delight. I will be coming back for more.

Nice pub, friendly staff but really disappointed with the food. We told our friends to meet us there for dinner after seeing the reviews. Two of us ordered mussels as a main course. I was surprised to see how small they were and came with only one tiny slice of bread each! The waitress reassured us they were mains not starter portions but when we asked she spoke to the chef about giving us some more bread. She came back with an extra slice each, it was laughable and extremely poor value for £18! The others in the group ordered burgers and were all pretty underwhelmed. Won't recommend for food again.

Really disappointed with meal and venue, nothing like as advertised on website, new to area and came across this place online, so thought we'd give it a go. My husband and I went, underwhelmed with deco, we ate in restaurant which they have tried to do up but it still doesn't meet the standard advertised, overcharged on drinks which I assume was due to us being served at the table, but I notice the website has since been updated with a revised drinks menu from April 2023, we attended 17th March. Cauliflower wings were swimming in oil, and my husband wasn't overly impressed with buffalo wings either. I had the rib eye and chips for my main which was overseasoned even for me, and my husband opted for the steak and ale pie, the peas tasted awful and mash inedible, reminded him of school dinners.  Staff weren't attentive, and left unattended and without drinks or a steak knife.  Would not re-visit.

Walked in thinking this food is going not going to be great but I shouldn’t of judged so early. The food was great definitely not your standard pub food. Staff very friendly. I would definitely comeback again if I come to this area again

Fantastic Sunday lunch. 5 star food amazing relaxed friendly service. We eat out most Sundays and this is the best we have had in a long time. Highly recommend

Wow where do I start... This was our second time eating dinner here and Rob and the gang did not disappoint. Fresh tasty food with good beer and friendly staff. If your looking for a chilled evening out then give this place a try. Fairly priced and in my eyes, up there with some of the best quality food Porthcawl has to offer. Well done gang, we'll be back ;-)

The main thing I want to say about this place is DO NOT JUDGE a book by it’s cover, I booked a table online and not being from the area I was unsure what to expect but all my goodness what a surprise. When we first arrived and saw the front of the building we were having second thoughts about going in but we are defo glad we did, we enter the bar and was greeted by the barman who asked if he could help us. We told him we had reserved a table for the restaurant and we wasn’t sure if we were in the correct placed, he assured us we were and called out our hostess for the evening Sophie. She took us through to the rear of the building where we were amazed almost transported to a completely different environment. The place was amazing and now looked like a proper restaurant, The food here was absolutely amazing(in fact probably the best Steak I’ve ever eaten). Sophie looked after our every need and the steaks were cooked exactly how we’d asked for them, the burgers were to die for and the portions were more than plentiful. We had an amazing evening here and I will absolutely recommend defo 5 stars, like I said at the beginning DO NOT JUDGE a book by its cover this place does not look much but once you go beyond the front doors you will definitely not regret it. Again thank you Sophie for making our visit both enjoyable and very memorable we will defo return if we are back in the area

The Sunday lunch was incredible. Came here with a group of friends after seeing other reviews but was blown out of the water by the service, food and atmosphere. The restaurant is really clean and has a lovely homely feel. We all had different meats and everyone complimented how well cooked it was. I had the beef and it was pink and amazing. All tasted super fresh and homemade. Yorkshires are huge! There are just little details that added to our experience, turning up early and bar staff being super friendly and accommodating. The pea purée and chutney style under the meat it was just above and beyond a standard Sunday roast.

This is a lovely hidden gem! Our waitress sophie was just amazing! The food was outstanding and couldn’t have asked for anything better! Don’t judge a book by its cover, once sat in the restaurant feels like a totally different place to the outside! Hats off to the chefs for their amazing cooking skills! Will 100% recommend to anyone wanting decent food with decent prices!

I am very particular when it comes to food in general but it would be fair to say that I am over exacting and extremely demanding when it comes to steak. The steak we were served in The Rock was absolutely magnificent and I have no hesitation in recommending it. We will undoubtedly return. Perfect for a cheeky treat on a Saturday lunchtime but I am already considering and organising an event for family and friends. I cannot commend this place enough. Very very satisfied in all regards.

We visited yesterday evening as a party of 6 and we couldn’t fault the food at all, everyone enjoyed their food (starter,main, & dessert) and we all cleared our plates! Our waitress was friendly, patient and efficient, and she had a good sense of humour which was nice to see. We were asked numerous times whether everything was to our satisfaction and whether we needed anything else. Chef popped out at the end of the evening and asked how we’d enjoyed our meals, that was a nice touch. Re Covid: All current Covid practices are adhered to ie track and trace, social distancing, maximum of 6 on a table, full table service, and masks being worn. We’ll be back again soon!

Visited Tuesday lunchtime for a birthday treat. It was quiet but very welcoming.Staff were attentive and very friendly.The chef showed us some fresh lobster from Tenby that was available howeverwe ordered the catch of the day (sea bass) and a steak.The meals tasted as good as they looked. After the main meal unfortunately we didn't have room for a dessert.We stayed and finished our drinks afterwards in the courtyard.Very hard to fault. If you’ve booked a table anywhere but the rock CANCEL IT right this second. Above and beyond is an understatement. All the staff are the most friendly welcoming people you would ever meet I genuinely have never been treated better by bar staff in my life. Booked very last minute for my husband's 30th, Rob and the whole team were very accomodating and were able to fit us in during a busy dinner service. Obviously with covid capacity is reduced so we really appreciated the effort!We arrived to a very nice courtyard beer garden, the staff were very welcoming and extremely attentive. Every single need was met!The food was amazing, the atmosphere was a lovely mix of locals and visitors. We were told that the management of the Inn had changed in October and of course it's been a tough year because of covid, we can only say that we wish the team all the best and would recommend anyone visiting Porthcawl to visit! You won't be disappointed :)We will definitely be returning again.

Amazing food and excellent customer service. We had a selection of the small bites dishes and all were incredibly tasty! The tempura prawns, seafood tacos, Korean chicken wings, scotch egg and cauliflower wings!! I can’t pick out one favourite dish as I loved them all and highly recommend every one of them!! I will most definitely be going back!!

We heard it was under new management, so we decided to pay a visit. It was amazing, didn't disappointed. Great food, friendly staffs, all follow government guidelines, very impressed. The pumpkin risotto is so tasty!!

Popped in after hearing it was under new ownership, the place has had a very tasteful redecoration on the inside including the bar, lounge and the large restaurant at the rear. Food was to die for and very reasonably priced with a 2 course lunch and evening offer as well as the main menu and specials.

Had a two-course lunch here Sunday. The Korean chicken wings were delicious. For main I had the belly pork, again it was delicious. The vedge was good and plentiful with tasty gravy, I would definitely recommend and am looking forward to trying the mid week menue.

Went there with my wife and our friend yesterday lunchtime. All of us had an absolute lovely meal. Each filled the plates and ourselves afterwards. Everything was cooked up fresh. Had the nicest hone cooked chips I've had in 2020.The pub isn't in the eat out help out scheme. Which was a good thing in my eyes. The food isn't expensive and I'd happily pay their prices for the food we were served. It didn't feel over crowded in there either. With people people who would not usually go to The Rock for food.

Beautiful sunday carvery with lots to choose from. Plenty of meat and at £7.95 for a large one its value for money too.

Went to the Rock today for a family meal, 21 of us in total. As it was a sunday they had the carvery being served and i have to say, the food was absolutely delicious. I am really fussy about eating out, especially a roast so was pleasantly surprised at how nice the food was. The meat was plentiful and really tender and the gravy was really tasty. I couldn't actually believe the price for the 6 dinners i paid for, fantastic value for money. Would definitely recommend if you haven't been before. Staff were fantastic too, very attentive and really lovely. Can't fault them at all. Will be returning!

All had food at different times staff where horrible the food wasnt as expected dont recommend i will never go there again also there wernt many menu option or drink menu most foods where crossed off and the food came way to quick it was most likely frozen

Great little find, good menu, awesome Sunday carvery. The bar is lively with regular live entertainment too. Steve took the reigns again and the difference is clear. He also knows how to keep real ales.

Went to the rock Inn on 4th August 2019 and have to say it was the worst Sunday lunch we had ever had. Beef was tough. Roast potatoes were white and only just cooked.Boiled potatoes had gone to mash.Yorksure pudding we couldn't chew.Looking around a lot of people left a lot of food. Take my advice and stay clear of this place for Sunday lunch or you will be sorry

Myself & my partner visited yesterday with 3 children. Everything was home cooked &fresh. Really reasonably priced, £36 for 2 adult meals, 3 kids meals, 2 pints & 3 kids drinks. Would definitely recommend.

Visited here for an evening meal. We were told from the onset that middle section of the menu was only available at lunchtime but everything else & the specials board was available. We decided to have the carvery only to be told that the carvery was only available at lunchtime (even though it was advertised on the Specials board. In hindsight we should have left then but instead opted to have the fish & chips. Bad move the batter on the fish was overcooked just short of being burnt, some of the chips were undercooked and the peas were anaemic. I only ate a small amount and that was only because I was starving. Needless to say we will not be visiting again

food is very good here well known for good local food and plenty of it. Has regular customers been going for years. Good value just comfortable can eat outside too.
