The Old House 1147 in Bridgend

Firstly, when we walked in, the manager was leaning on the pass - not a good look. The restaurant reminded me of a work canteen big, crowded and loud. The noise was so deafening I couldn't hear what the server was saying, I had to shout. She did acknowledge that it was noisy. We were asked to sit next to the toilet so we moved to the bar. The table hadn't been cleared or cleaned. We waited ages for our order to be taken and when it arrived it was placed on the table with cutlery and not a word was uttered the the server. The food wasn't up to much - overcooked salmon and unimpressive pie. What a disappointing evening.

Historical building with a beautifully shaped thatched roof. The inside is sparkling clean and gives a warm feeling. Great foods as well.

Took my elderly relatives and a friend to the old house this week,arrived midday and had no problem getting a table overlooking the garden,great service and food of very good quality,I was pleasantly surprised with the bill,taking into account the modern surroundings and the quality and amount of food we were served.

We visit 1147 weekly, it takes us 45 minutes to get there but is so worth the travelling distance, we either have the Sunday roast which has to be the best we have ever had, the beef falls apart in your mouth the turkey is moist and there are plenty of vegetables to accompany your choice. If we don’t go for Sunday roast we book midweek and enjoy a fantastic steak- I have fillet my husband has T bone or tomahawk which are both cooked to perfection, great kids meals and vegetarian options too. Service is amazing- they are on the ball from start to finish. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity. All of the above is why we return every week.

As always the food was good and the service was exceptional. We had the 2 course weekday (?) lunch deal which we enjoyed, very filling with a good menu choice. It is of course busier at weekends and especially Sunday lunch, but that does not change the high quality of food and service. A special mention to Rhian who looked after us so very well today. Tip: The modern extension has great views, especially from the window seats, but it can get a little noisy when very busy, you may prefer to ask to sit in the original pub section.

Food was great, service was spot-on, they got our starters in quickly but then left us plenty of time for the main. Lovely place, an old cottage with thatched roof at the front, leading on to a modern dining room with a panoramic view.

Excellent as always. Staff so friendly. Beautiful setting. The food was exceptional. Waitress Ffion was excellent I’m always so happy when she is our waitress. So helpful and always knows about the food menu when we ask her. Love coming here for food and even staying night. Cant fault this place it’s amazing 🤩

Delicious food! You get better portions than the photos let on. Lunch menu is great, worth the price for a treat any time! Great quality food, full of flavour and you can see the effort that goes into it - It's classic pub food with a bit of something special. The setting is great, plenty of parking and lovely views. Sitting in the windowed area is the best, although the cosy traditional dining area looked wonderful and will be a new favourite on cold nights! Can't wait to go again!

Me and my husband visited on Saturday evening after being recommended by a work colleague. We had never heard of this restaurant before so this was our first time visiting and had a wonderful experience. We were greeted and shown to our table by an extremely friendly member of staff and our food and drinks orders were taken promptly. The food was delicious. We both had rarebit tartlet to start and for the mains, T-Bone and lamb rump. Both courses were delicious. Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for dessert! Although it was very busy, our food was served quicker than expected. Special thanks to our superb and friendly waitress, Mya, who looked after us very well during our visit and a credit to this wonderful restaurant! We will definitely return in the future!

I cannot fault the food or service here, I came for a pre-birthday family lunch and even though we arrived 20 minutes late after somehow getting lost, it was not a problem and we were made to feel very welcome and not rushed. I deliberated for ages deciding where to go, and I don't know why this wasn't top of my list to start with. I'd been looking for somewhere with beautifully cooked food but, not pretentious (my father has quite a traditional palette). This place ticked all the boxes, the food was so tasty, well presented, and I even thought I could possibly replicate it at home if I was absolutely on my A game. The portion sizes were just right and we all left feeling comfortably full and relaxed. We will be back again of that I'm sure. Looking at the menu, there's a lovely selection but, not quite enough vegetarian options to actually entice my teenage daughter out of her lair to join us. It probably lacked the ubiquitous patatas bravas, though this should not be seen as a criticism. 9.7/10.

Can I just say the service and the welcome from your staff was amazing. I called as my partner's brother who was joining us had forgotten his Insulin and we were likely to be late as we were having to drive around Maesteg trying to find a chemist that would be able to help him. We were told 2.30pm would be the latest we could turn up as the kitchen would have to close, fair enough....I called again and said we would be able to get there for 2.35pm and the gentleman I spoke to said that's absolutely fine we would just have to order ASAP We came in and were greeted warmly, given the menus and picked our food. Food was perfect, very large portions and very tasty and great value for money in my opinion. All staff were lovely to us and we were very grateful for allowing us to dine. Went to The Old House 1147 to have Sunday lunch. It was our first visit here & we will definitely go again. We had stopped going out for Sunday lunch following many disappointing experiences. However what we had today was delicious. The beef & lamb were so tender & tasty and came with more than ample amounts of veg & plenty of gravy, which is a must for our family Our waitress Rhian was so nice & helpful. We weren’t rushed through our meal. The restaurant was busy but Rhian was always available to help if we needed anything. Would highly recommend a visit.

Had food here last night the Chateaubriand was stunning, super tasty, Tom and Tony were fab and Demi our waitress was amazing, kept the cocktails flowing, will definitely be returning
