Saltwater Inn in Bridgend

I am not afraid to say it, I basically have 4 daddies... As up and coming member of the daddy club (even with my poor excuse of facial hair) this ticks all the boxes you would want as a dad. Beers, plentiful of food, great portions and fantastic drinks. People might say I have daddy issues but let's change that mindset. I only have daddy solutions and this restaurant should solve all your problems, daddy recommends.

The food is absolutely lovely and plentiful. I’ve never been lucky to park near and always walked due to the popularity of Porthcawl’s visitors. Part of the Inn is dog friendly. Location is excellent and some windows have great views looking towards the beach. There are outside seats when weather is warm. We have been here twice this week at 12.30pm and never failed to get a table for four or six of us! Staff have all been very helpful and polite. Very good prices compared to other places.

Great food, excellent service and suitable for vegans too. We love this place.

What's happend to the food here 🤔? . Ordered 2 Peroni £12.40 Flat pints and tasted old The food wasn't great. ORDERED steak and chips .Steak was over cooked and chips were rock hard and soggy work that one out .was like they had only been blanched. Chicken tikka. No flavour at all not seasonsed correctly & the rice was overcooked . Garlic bread Tasted like toast no garlic at all . Deserts we're ok i guess but won't be back untill some quality control is taken into consideration

Great location and very good service. Though it is not a sunny day, we still enjoy strolling in the little town and having a good meal in the Saltwater Inn, with a kind arrangement on sitting by the window.

Over cooked food/dry chicken and miserable staff. Not a great experience unfortunately.

Sunday lunch good, dessert let them down, I had apple pie which was overheated in microwave after I had asked for it not to make pastry soggy. Shame.

We had an 18th birthday party at the Salt Water Inn last night and the staff couldn't do enough for us. They even refunded the deposits for the people that didn't show up, that's so generous.

A brilliant little gem of a restaurant. From the beginning the staff were excellent. We asked if they could pan fry a steak instead of grilling it, and a resounding "no problem" came back, and that steak was delicious too. The food is very good value, good quality and lots of it, I had local faggots and peas and it was simply superb. The cockles, laver bread and bacon was also top notch and again very good value for money. The staff cannot do enough for you, the food is excellent and the prices are very good. All in all, a super little place. If you're in Porthcawl, drop in for a good feed.

Had Sunday lunch and found the portions have got very small Besides my veg and gravy only being luke warm Ordered portion of cauliflower cheese as extra to make up for lack of veg and it arrived stone cold Won't be bothering again Seems the food is shrinking and attention to what's being served is also poor

Ate at the Saltwater Inn as part of a party of 6 while on a short break. We enjoyed the meal enough to go back the following night. Had 10 different meals over the visits and all were very much enjoyed. Excellent value and friendly staff. Good pint and reasonable soft drink prices too.

Came in here for lunch today, plenty of seating with beach views and staff were polite and accommodating. The only thing that let it down was the food. We ordered fish and chips, kids sausage meal and nachos which we're good. I ordered the weekly special of 'Lemon & Samphire Salmon Pasta' and it was dreadful, the pasta was so overdone it was wet mush, there had to be 2 red chillies chopped in there that wasn't mentioned which made it incredibly spicy - my dinner was practically inedible. My mum got Scampi which was just fried breaded fish liquid mush, it was terrible. I'm definitely not coming back and wouldn't recommend which is a shame.

We had an afternoon meal hear last Tuesday, from the moment we walked in they were so friendly and welcoming. I had the corned beef pie my husband had the T bone steak ( enormous and mouth watering ) and my son had a chicken meal amazing highly recommended and so reasonably priced

Following leaving the whole top layer of lasagne that was over cooked, burnt and could not cut, they would not take money off the bill because they said the food was checked upon by a staff member not long after it arrived on the table. I had a 1 year old to feed before myself...absolutely disgusting service

Terrible manager (Sheree) spoke on the phone tried to book a table to blatantly put the phone down on me very rude wouldn’t visit this place due to the Phonecall let alone going there.

Absolutely delicious meals, all homemade and so tasty. The service was wonderful, the staff very attentive and nothing was over priced which was refreshing. We will definitely return.

Great meal. The Penclawdd cockles, laverbread and bacon bits on bread was delicious. Butchers Faggots and Pea really tasty. Sirloin steak was amazing. Barnsley Chop was very tasty. A good bottle of wine to go with the meal. Reasonably priced. Staff friendly and service good. Worth a visit.

Ate the Sea Bass with Mediterranean veg and a jacket potato. Delicious meal, generous potions for a great price. All the Staff looked smart, friendly and helpful. Would eat here again. Open all day. Take cash and card payments.

Went to Coney beach in Porthcawl and was told this pub was worth a visit,Really good food and not expensive,friendly staff and very efficient,definitely recommend going there.

Food was ok, service was ok to start with but had to go to the till for the bill as no staff around. Needs some heaters for the outdoor area as it quite gets chilly.

04/09/2024: Still value for money 15/5/23: booked a table for 2 & again didn't disapoint 🙂 food & service 10/10 Popped in here with my wife & our dog to see what the food was like as this is our pick for date night this month 😉 I had cajun chicken burger & my wife had corned beef pie. OMG, the portions were huge. The handcut chips were like we wedges & everything was cooked perfectly. It was very busy when we arrived at 12.30 (no booking) so we had to wait for 30 minutes for a table, not a problem as we went shopping. Surprisingly my pint of Pepsi max was only £1.98 😲 where I'm used to paying a lot more. Very friendly staff, excellent value for money & a nice atmosphere for a lunch time. We will definitely be coming back for date night & I'm looking forward to a 20oz steak. Also will recommend to family & friends. Sorry no photos as we were starving 😅

Great food at reasonable prices but alcohol expensive

There lunchtime with my husband for a wedding anniversary meal. Lovely welcoming attentive staff.Fab service & food. I had steak & ale pie & chips my husband had salt water mega burger .chips & side order of garlic bread Both were huge ..I had planned on having a pud after but couldn't manage one 😳 Will pay another visit soon .

Good food somewhat let down by indifferent service. Thought I'd pop into the Saltwater Inn yesterday on a quick trip to Porthcawl.... I've been intending to have a look at some of the pubs and restaurants in this area....to be brief it seems like a good 'pub' style seaside restaurant....as it should perhaps!....decor fine.... nothing out of the ordinary....a sea side fish and chips restaurant with wine vibe perhaps....male and disabled toilets clean and smelling fresh....no mirror in the disabled....the menu seems varied and promising for this type of place....I ordered the mustard chicken with potatoes....the food was well presented on a trencher style plate and certainly was a generous portion....the dish was really tasty....I had the lemon cheesecake to follow....I ordered ice cream as a side but received pouring cream instead....which was fine and went unmentioned....the cheesecake was an adequate size and certainly lemony and tasty....the meal was really palatable and good value also!....HOWEVER....service and staff experience was another matter....curt would perhaps be an apt description at best....one waitress in particular seems to have attended the Basil Fawlty school of hospitality!....(a presumably 30 something lady with dark hair worn in a ponytail!)....best described as flinty I feel!....a Soviet style attitude perhaps!....maybe she was having an off day.... sometimes British customer care has to be experienced to be believed!....I certainly wasn't getting a smile and a 'thank you for coming'!....to be fair the older lady doubling as maitre d was more friendly...the kitchen seems clearly superior to front of house....at least imao...in summary a potentially good experience marred by indifferent curt service....

Been here twice now... both times food was great, and plenty of it. Had the t-bone steak... perfectly cooked medium-rare, so tasty. The sea bass looked amazing, and lovely big fillet too. Recommend to anyone.

We visit them everything we come to porthcawl. The food is always plentiful and delicious and the staff are friendly and polite.

Stopped off here on the off chance we could take the dog in, the staff were friendly, the food was amazing and great value ( The burgers are massive), food came out fast. Shame we only found this near the end of the holiday

The Lamb Rogan Josh was extremely fatty and had no flavour, I almost threw up eating it. Service and atmosphere was OK. BUT if you are to have anything, DONT have a Curry.

As Sunday lunches go, this was a really tasty one. I think what set it apart from others was how reasonable the cost was for what you got. Definitely go back, ticked all the boxs and in a great location too.

Came across this superb place with its stunning views by chance while visiting Porthcawl. Food was to die for and the portions were so filling. Myself, partner and our two boys all had starters and main courses with drinks for £72. Staff were so friendly and efficient. Definitely visiting again before our holiday ends. Love the place 👌

Went based on 4.5 rating and experienced 3.5 at best. Food ok in parts but mediocre elsewhere. Decor tatty. Service was only bit approaching 4+.

Can't recommend this place enough. Staff so welcoming and friendly. Food outstanding and excellent value for money we had 1 starter 3 mains 2 dessert 2 rounds of drinks £66 portions are big and well presented. Offer on at the moment not sure on duration but children eat free between 4-6 pm Monday to Friday. It says family friendly pub and it is honestly if visiting porthcawl and looking for a fab place to eat go here..

Really nice, home cooked style food. From the kids meals through to the Sunday roasts everything was fresh, authentic and delicious. Will be returning.

Don't have steak and ale pie as all pastry and gravy 1 chunk of meat very disappointed.chips could of done another 5 mins some a bit hard . Could count the peas on the plate . Other meals looked lovely. Currys bit to spicy.

Delicious Sunday lunch, the lamb was falling apart and the veg was lovely in the main. It was let down by really soggy garden peas - they tasted tinned and had no bite - and the parsnip was inedible which is a shame as it's a favourite of mine. The roasted potatoe was also rock hard. The gravy was lovely and rich and thick 😍 The service was ok, a bit slow and others who sat after us were seen before us. We had a corner seat tucked away, but had we had a better seat the views are beautiful towards the sea and promenade. Really good value for money and a great price for a Sunday lunch (11.99 to upgrade to Lamb - 9.99 otherwise).

If you are up by the Porthcawl Town area and are thinking of some drinks and food, then you can try this place. They do some nice food here, and I also didn't have to wait long for my food despite it being a busy Sunday. Overall, the service was really good 👍, and I would visit this place again.

Went here Saturday 29 th June 24 just called in on the off chance and fitted us in and we ordered 2 T Bone 20 oz steaks which were cooked perfectly medium for me and well done forthe wife came with chips, large mushroom, peas, salad and 2 onion rings and we ordered a garlic bread with the meal. All came the same time and were boiling hot and one of the nicest pub meals had for years. Had same steak in Miller and Carter few weeks ago and this was just as good. Staff were polite and very quick serving and meal came within 20 minutes. So all in all really good experience and will definitely be coming back. 👏👏👏thanks.

We had a great time at the saltwater inn , is kids/husband is gluten and dairy intolerant able to accommodate really nice food and honestly the best gluten-free bread we have ever had!

On holiday from Bury, Lancs and had a lovely birthday meal. The menu was so varied and even the vegan options looked good. The steak and ale pie was delicious, lots of steak that just melted. Our vegan had 'chicken' tikka followed by choc fudge brownies and was very impressed. Staff were really friendly and although was very busy we didn't have to wait too long. Would definitely come again. 😁

Food was "Ok" My burger was a floppy burger, steak was good, gluten free fish and chips was OK. Waited AGES for food, tables near us ordered after us but had their food before us. When I asked where it was incase they'd forgotten, it suddenly appeared! Not the best place but not the worst place. Staff were lovely that has to be said. Won't be going back though.

Staff were not pleasant in fact one lady was quite rude. Food was awful, I would definitely not recommend.

My partner and I have been here numerous of times where it has been very welcoming and friendly staff members greeting us in. The table service always delivers great customer service in a polite manner. It has a beautiful view of the beach and its coastline as we sitting down eating our meals. Today we tried the Fully Loaded Cajun Chicken Burger. WOW it was big!!! Probably one of the best burgers I’ve tried in a long time. I totally recommend it!.

Sometimes a meal for one can be a bit of a chore but not tonight! Thank you Saltwater Inn for a warm welcome, a lovely table, great IPA (with a % donated to the local RNLI) and fabulous fish and chips. Delicious.

This place was the perfect spot for lunch while we were visiting the area today. I am gluten free and dairy free, so it can be difficult to find food options. But, the staff at the Saltwater Inn was both knowledgeable and accommodating. There were lots of menu options that could be modified to fit my diet - which was an unexpected treat. They truly went above and beyond to make sure that I had a meal that I could enjoy. Best of all, the fish and chips were delicious.Thank you so much!

Do not be put off by the exterior because the food in here was top notch!! Will definitely go back & would highly recommend the mixed grill! 👌🏼

Always a lovely meal here at Saltwater Inn

Lovely dog friendly restaurant, lovely views from the terrace and good food at very good prices. Service was ok well delivered and friendly nothing to complain about really. Could have done with a dog snack offer but not really necessary. Outside terrace is ok but of course suffers from the saltwater effect on furniture, getting to the top terrace could be challenging to less mobile. Overall well worth a visit and wish I'd tried the lamb chop that my partner had, the curry was ok but have had better. Right next to public car park.

Advertised as 'BAR and grill' ????? Don't bother if you just want a drink in the bar. Food only in the whole place!!!! Called in for a bottle of wine Friday 19th and turned away from an almost empty established. They must be making too much money if they can afford to turn away custom..... crazy !!! I've given a one star as it won't allow me zero stars. Can't comment on food as we'd already had lunch and didn't want to eat.
