This venue is only 5 minutes around the corner from where I live in Bryncethin. The venue has amazing grounds for your wedding. The staff are friendly and attentive and make sure your wedding guests and yourselves have a fantastic time. I am always looked after when I photograph weddings here and would highly recommend this beautiful wedding venue.

Not somewhere we would usually go but I have to say what great food we had at a Christmas function. Although the marquee was very squashed (and hot), the food was on par with restaurant quality. We were all impressed.

My friend and I visited the cafe today with our two babies. We were quite shocked by the prices for lunch (the cheapest item, sandwiches were over £5) but ordered sandwiches, a hot drink and a slice of cake. Whilst waiting for our food to be delivered, we fed the babies food from home in the highchairs provided. The waitress was rather curt when delivering our food and we were very shocked when she returned to ask us that if we were going to feed the babies food from outside the cafe that we needed to be discreet so others didn't take advantage! Her manner was very short, bordering on rude and I've never been told to put food away before or made to feel it was a problem. There was no child's menu and £5.20 for a sandwich my 14 month old son would only nibble at, seems a little steep. Perhaps she wouldn't have complained if we were feeding them out of jars but I like to avoid them and there were no healthy options suitable for toddlers to buy. Other cafes we've visited are very baby friendly, offering to heat up food or bottles. It was a real shame as we'd enjoyed a lovely walk in the attractive grounds but being made to feel guilty in the cafe spoiled our visit. Even if our children were older, it seems very overpriced for the food on offer and if we were to return the only option would be to eat outside in the cold.

I was being treated to a Mother's Day lunch by my lovely children. We arrived at 12 noon, the house has been tastefully refurbished and we relaxed in the bar before being called to our table. All was going well until the food arrived! The prawns in the prawn cocktails were tiny and few and were lying on a bed of wilted lettuce! The Sunday roasts consisted of meat, roast potatoes, carrots and the thinnest gravy I've ever seen! No mint sauce available for the lamb dinners! The desserts were passable. We will not be returning!

I have visited this restaurant many times in the past and have had a really good experience. It has recently been taken over by a new company. The seating was very cramped. They lost our order leaving us waiting for over an hour for our first course. The food was very disappointing and if you didn't like carrots there was not other veg! Needless to say I will not be returning.

7 of us for Mothers Day lunch & my Father in Law's birthday but what a disappointment! My husband had garlic & white wine mushrooms to start which were cold but thankfully all the others were ok, the main meal tho was probably the worst I have had anywhere, firstly they had run out of the lamb, which isn't the end of the world but they had another 'sitting' after ours - all the vegetables were cold, the roast potatoes were reheated & like leather & coated in garlic salt ( not the best option for a roast) & the gravy, well it certainly couldn't be described as gravy or even a jus it was like greasy coloured water with added stock cube!! The deserts were ok though thankfully. On the plus side the staff were lovely & had excellent customer service. Not a place I would even entertain visiting again!

The evening meal is a delight, presentation execelent, tasty and nourishing fabulous the chef can compete easily with any celebratary chef and maybe show them how to present a fabulous meal at such a reasonable price.one draw back is breakfast during the week stops at 9 am and thats too early, the people who made the decision to close deserve to be sent into early retirement and let real business take over

Bought the livingsocial deal, which included 3 course dinner, overnight stay and breakfast for two. It was such good value for money and could not be faulted on this front. It's such a shame that they will be closing the accommodation to the public as would thoroughly recommend it.

We tried to 3 course set meal available on Saturday nights. I would advise that you book before hand - the restaurant area is small, probably sits around 30 people. We had booked for 7pm, but on arrival the restaurant wasn't ready to sit us, so we had a drink in a little room on the side of the restaurant which had enough seating for around 15 people. The food was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful, however, neither myself or partner really enjoyed the experience. We put it down on the feeling that we were on top of the other diners and didn't feel like we were able to sit and relax while we ate. The courses were served without a gap so we felt we didn't get the full experience of enjoying a night out.

We stayed for 1 night and were welcomed by friendly helpful staff. Room was very clean with plenty of tea & coffee etc. The evening meal was excellent really delicious with a couple of small taster courses added, and again the staff were great, the house wine was a delicious Chilean Merlot. We will certainly return for a meal and tell other friends about this our experience.Wondering around the grounds was a delight, and sitting out on the terrace in the morning rounded off a relaxing night away.We visited the B Leaf garden nursery in the grounds and again most helpful and knowledgeable staffSurely Bridgend Council need to reconsider any decision about closing the hotel as it seemed very busy when we were there on a Thursday to Friday.

Me & my Fiance book a table here to celebrate 1 year until we get married, when we arrived we were quickly seen - I had booked earlier in the month, we were taken to a lovely table sat right by the window so we had lovely views of the grounds. Our waitress was very attentive, and provided us with adiquite time to pick what we wanted while not leaving us too long or not enough time.In some places we have gone to we have felt rushed, but at Bryngarw we were made to feel special, even more so when a wedding party started arriving for a wedding the next day, we weren't ignored or forgotten about it was lovely! The food was probably some of the best I've ever tasted, we were also given some complimentary tasters (mushroom soup & mango sorbet inbetween meals) which were totaly unexpected. Both of us had a 3 course meal (trio of desserts was to die for!) and a bottle of wine all of this came to around £50!! Then when we paid the bill to leave the waiter explained that due to what we had ordered we could get a better deal if we booked a room there also! To me this shows that they care about thier customers rather than just wanting money from you.As lovely an idea that it would be to stay there, we only live 10 minutes down the road so we wouldn't take that option. We are planning on coming back in the next few months and will be bringing our parents, I can't wait it's making me hungry at the thought of it!Definately recommend this place & I have told all my friends & colleagues at work about this place too!

Stayed here on the 28-06-14 for my birthday with my wife and brother and sister in law, we had a real good deal for a nights stay and 3 course meal, first of all the place is lovely and the view of the gardens are lovely and if you have the weather you could sit outside all day long, the rooms we stayed in were small but lovely with nice Decore, the lunch menu was small with little choice, the girls had the scones which were enough for them, on the other hand me and my brother had a sandwich which on the menu had variable fillings, he had the ham and I had the tuna for the price you'd expect to have a bit more in the sandwich even though the plates was well presented with the home made coleslaw an enough crisp, the ham sandwich was basically one piece of ham no salad or even the option of mustard with it. Going to dinner we wasn't expecting much going off lunch, but we were plesently surprised! The 3 course (actually turned out to be a 5 course for same price) was outstanding, from the starters to the deserts we could not fault it from the presentation Of the meals to the size portion,What I liked was the little shot of soup that come out whilest we were waiting for our starters. Overall the Evening meal was outstanding and we would definitely come here again for a evening meal. one bad point I would say is that as the World Cup was on there were no TV in the bar areas so we had to leave for a couple of hours before dinner to watch it in a local pub, which in my eyes was loss of income for them as We spent money there which we could of spent in the hotel.

I have over the past 5 to 6 years enjoyed the facilities at Bryngarw house and received customary brilliant service and meals. If Bridgend council are thinking of reducing the availability, which I have heard on the grapevine, then I would perceive this as extremely short sighted!!!!This jewel in the borough must be considered a tremendous opportunity to encourage visitors and without doubt the staff make the restaurant a magnet for return visits. No doubt, if what I hear is true, staff numbers will be reduced and their chance to develop skills withdrawn.....a real shame, one which the council should explain their anticipated action!!!

The chef has been here for years and is still good at what he does, much better than the average pub the meals are well cooked and presented. Service very good with local accents and a good standard. I find it difficult to believe me and 'AngelSwansea' visited the same place. My husband and I came her for our anniversary, a treat from my parents. We arrived early and bought a drink at the bar. We sat outside taking in the lovely surroundings and the friendly waitress brought the menu to us while we relaxed. We placed our order outside and the waitress came out for us when starters were ready. The conservatory seating area was lovely, clean and bright but still had the feel of the country house. The food was lovely and the sticky toffee pudding was amazing. The only reason i haven't given a 5 is that we had a bottle of house white and it really wasn't good. I don't think much thought has been put into the wine. Other than that food and setting are ace!Very reasonable at £22.50 for 3 courses.

Having stayed at this hotel twice I found the food was excellent but the accommodation was very poor. Both of the rooms we stayed in were shabby with poor quality scratched furniture. The bed was uncomfortable because the springs could be felt in the mattress. We had our evening meal in the conservatory and when it got dark you could see how filthy the conservatory windows were as they were all covered in finger marks a bit off putting when you are eating. The first thing that greets when you arrive are cigarette butts on the floor outside the main entrance. The first time we stayed unfortunately there was a wedding taking place and the room that we were in was very close to the glass recycling bins, at 1am the staff were disposing of the bottles VERY LOUDLY without a thought for the people sleeping in the rooms above! With a bit of a facelift, more thoughtful staff and a bit more housekeeping it would be a nice place to stay.

We were a family pasty of eight celebrating a birthday with a Sunday lunch.First of all, the setting on a sunny June day was stunning, the parkland home of a former industrialist – and if the kids get bored they can wander off to the adventure playground. The actual Harlequin restaurant is bright and airy with a pleasant ambiance. Service, as always, was brilliant, orders taken outside in the sun as we enjoyed a drink and where we even completed our meal with the desserts and coffees. No trouble at all to the waiters. The meal was good value at £19 for three courses, served with abundant dishes of varied vegetables and presented haute-cuisine fashion. The chef even cooked up a special pasta for our youngest vegetarian with restricted tastes who did not want the menu options, typical of the patient attention to detail of the staff. An ideal restaurant for the special occasion.

We visited here for dinner on a Saturday evening and had an enjoyable evening. The hotel is set in the country park. They serve a three course set meal for £22.50 and have to say it was fantastic value with home cooked food. The downside is the service ... it is far too slow. It took 45 minutes for our starter to come out and the rest of the evening did not progress any quicker. We received our main course and were told our vegetables would follow .. only to find that we had to chase them up well over 5 minutes later. They did compensate by giving complimentary extra courses ... a tiny soup and sorbet but to be honest we would rather have had our meal served on time - as by the end we just wanted what we had ordered originally and had no room for extras. Would we return .. only if we could be assured the service would be faster.

I can honestly say this is the WORST restaurant I have EVER eaten in. Visited on Sunday 17th February as a party of 4 people. The Manager Mrs Andrea Thomas was not at the restaurant that day. The conservatory style room is tired & grubby. I sat in a puddle of stickiness on the floor which was most uncomfortable. The table cloth was stained. We arrived at 12.45pm. Our order was taken before 1pm. The waitress (Linda) a surly person seemed disconcerted because we each chose a different dish in both starter & main course. Our starter was served an hour later & the main course almost 2 hours after our order was taken. All around us diners were complaining about the delay. The plates were cold & so was the meal. The portions were miniscule & the gravy was cold. I had lamb which tasted like a 100 year old lamb it was so strong in flavour & was inedible. We complained about the time delay & were told the Chef was having a 'strop' ! The waiter refused to remove our plates from the starter course for 30 mins after we had finished as he said the Chef 'would do his head in ' !!This was a Faulty Towers experience without the humour. The waitress (Linda again) was very annoyed when we refused coffee & desert. We explained we wanted to be home before dark & could not chance another hour wait. On leaving we asked the receptionist for the Managers name. It was thrown at us without any enquiry as to why we had asked & if there were any problems. I telephoned Mrs Thomas the Manager on her return the following day. I explained our experience & she said there were no notes from the staff & she would have to ask them. She did not request my Tel. number to enable her to get back to me. Altogether a thoroughly awful & distasteful experience. DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT THEY DO NOT DESERVE YOUR CUSTOM.
