Red Dragon in Bridgend

I've given this place 2 stars because I've been here 3 times and nor been able to get what I wanted. First time they'd stopped serving at 2220 on a Sunday. Second time they hadn't started serving food at 1140 on a Monday morning. The third time I've come on a the same Monday evening. I ordered a pint of carlsberg which was ridiculous in price. Nearly £2 cheaper a mile away. Anyway my pint was disgusting which I mentioned as soon as I tasted it. The staff said its the end of the barrell so gave me a new pint from a new barrell which was disgusting so I asked if I could change to a carling which they said was fine but I seriously couldn't drink it. It was rank. I dont know if the lines need cleaning but I drink a lot of pints and there's something not right in here.

So disappointing festive lunch. Burnt black stuffing rest of meal cold or warm. No one came to see if meal was OK like they usually do when having a meal. When waitress collected main meal dishes told her and she said will send manager over. Manager came NO apology just I'll tell the chef. When manager brought our deserts found her very condescending even when getting another round of drinks manager said no you can put them on the bill. Not sure what she thought we were going to do. Something about way we were going to pay. Was all cash. Managers customer service was Zero. All other staff were great. Read less

Omg. Can’t fault it. All the staff were amazing and funny and welcoming. The food was sensational, service was phenomenal. It was amazing.

We had the most amazing experience on our Christmas works party. Nothing was too much and they were all absolutely amazing. Both the staff and food were perfect. We felt welcome and enjoyed the night thoroughly

Lovely pub and atmosphere usually bar meals quite good. Friendly staff. Festive menu had not many choices and even with pre ordering it wasn't up to much!

Visited as a party of 10 various ages for Sunday Lunch. Staff were attentive throughout and nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of food and dinner was delicious! Would definitely visit again. The visit from Santa was an unexpected bonus!

A fantastic pub, great food and good beer

We would eat here quite often under the previous landlord Gareth Thomas, this was the first time we have been back since he left, there used to be a minimum of four to five serving/bar staff, there was only 2 this time and we had to wait 10 minutes to order our food snd drinks and another 35 minutes wait for food. The food was tasty but the prices reflect that, as for the service, worse I have ever experienced here and it was one of the reasons me and the family go there. One family walked out who were waiting behind me. One of the ladies behind the bar apologised for the wait, but nobody bothered appologising for the wait for the food.

We were a family of 15 celebrating a birthday meal. Food was lovely, great service off all the staff.

Food not great steak chewy, and not cooked to how I wanted medium rare, and looked like bin reheated up, but the people where really nice

Disgusting service. Booked a table online turned up for the ginger bar man accepting bookings off drunk locals to be told they no longer have a table for me and my three children after a 30 minute drive. Appalling

Steak was one of the toughest I've had. Couldn't eat all of it. Tried, but gave up. Spoke to waitress, who immediately offered me a new steak, which I refused, due to being in a rush. I was then offered a refund, which I refused. I went there for a decent meal, not a cheap or free meal. This is the second time my steak meal was not edible. Maybe they should purchase quality meat, & not cheap meat, or maybe it's the chefs fault for not checking quality. Or maybe his/her cooking skills? Will not visit again soon.

We love this restaurant as it serves food all day, and we are always on the lookout for food at times when other places may not be serving. Staff are always very welcoming and polite. The food is very good, hot and tasty. Good portions.

Came today for a Sunday lunch, safe to say we were overly pleased the food was gorgeous and the Yorkshire puddings 🤤 say no more! Highly recommend Sunday lunch! We paid a little more for our dinners as we added on a lot of extras 🫣 and had a few bevvies!

Faultless, food was exceptional on this visit. I left feedback at the bar for the kitchen staff.

Had food here on the weekend, the food was great and the service was amazing. One of my friends requested so many changes to their burger and the server (Daf i think his name was) was kind enough to make sure the Chef got all the right changes and bring our food back quick considering how busy it was, had a great evening.

Had a delicious fish and chips, the portion size was very generous. The staff was super lovely, especially Dafydd.

Pleasant enough service but the advertised dishes were only partially available in some cases though a few limited alternatives were offered. The fayre and the venue lacks interest and inspiration with a rather canteen approach to the table/seating arrangements. It needs a serious make-over.

Great food and drink in a relaxing atmosphere

Had a very pleasant experience here recently, made all the better by attentive members of staff. I was quite indecisive, but good drink recommendations by a bartender called Geraint made the night.

Stopped for food today. The service was excellent and food was delicious. Cannot rate this place enough.

Staff were very good, especially one of the bar staff Geraint who was very polite and enticed me to come back again.

Friday afternoon, very nice not to busy nice atmosphere. Food arrived relativity quickly and was very well cooked.

First time here in a few years Food was good although it's gone expensive , chicken a little dry and could use more sauce Chip portions were very small for £3 ... One son had to double up and glad he did Nice staff though

6 of us visited yesterday for lunch (Saturday). Abnormally quiet for this pub, used to be very popular. Our food was below average, my jacket potato had to be returned as the spud was cold. My son's steak went cold whilst waiting for the peppercorn sauce to the point where I re-ordered the meal in full. My father waited forever for extra gravy for his sausage and mash which never arrived. Needless to say I wanted to speak to the Manager but was told instead that the steak meal and sausage and mash meal would be refunded in full. I do not blame the young girls working front of house, they are the unlucky staff that have to deal with us customers. It's the chefs that produce these low quality meals and present them cold. Like I said before, it wasn't busy there so the kitchen would not have been under pressure. I had booked online a party of 14 of us for Sunday 8th September, needless to say I asked the young lady at the bar to cancel it. I will not be returning to eat here and would not recommend the food. As a bar it's a lovely place to drink, the outside area is pleasant and well kept. It's a real shame as prior to the management being taken over this pub was a delight to dine in with real good food.

Great ambience and service. Only disappointing thing was we ordered 3 fish&chips, 2 off the lunch menu (lighter bites) and one off main. They all came out the same size which was great if you were paying £8.95 but not if you were paying £13.99. Overall a nice lunch out so thankyou to the team.

Been going there for a number of years went there with the wife not so long ago and had the large mixed grill, pretty quiet in there at the time but unfortunately service was very slow, eventually had food and it was the most dreadful plate of food I have ever had, the sausages were deep fried and over cooked, steak was really tough like boot leather and to top it off the gammon was mainly raw, called the waitress over and she agreed and said that gammon should never have been served, she went and showed the staff behind the bar and all I was offered was a lousy drink for free, I left nearly three quarters of the food as i could not eat it it was that bad, what a waste of money but heyho won't be going back there again what a total shambles

Our party consisted of 3 adults, one of whom was in a wheelchair. The disabled access has really be thought about as the gradient is perfect for wheelchairs and the entrance and table was very accessible. The food and service were very good. No complaints at all. Would definitely go there again and I would recommend the place to friends.

We have had the pleasure of visiting the Red Dragon on Many occasions. During my recent visit the food was excellent as always, this was made even better due to the outstanding service from the young lady Cassie who couldn't do enough for us. All businesses would benefit from the professional attitude as the young lady showed.

Lovely looking pub from the outside soon very inviting we had a warm warm welcome all the staff are lovely the young lads who served us were very polite and kind and chatty. However, the food was very averaged, same old marstons and brains food. Nice atmosphere, Nice staff, Nice building but wouldn’t have food here again

Absolutely amazing Sunday cooked dinner. Delicious with great portions and great value. Will 100% recommend to anyone.

Went above and beyond to ensure i had a hot drink. Even when the coffee machine was not working.

Asked for quiet table away from children which we were given. Food arrived piping hot and well presented. Staff were friendly and helpful - asked several times if I meals were satisfactory. Toilets were clean . Definitely worth a visit - typical 'pub grub' - but was cooked well and not swimming in fat

Attended Sunday 28th July at 2 pm, was surprised how quiet it was as previous visits it was jam packed with Gareth Thomas there. The Sunday lunch beef meal was lovely but lacking garden peas in the veg , a bit different to the previous Sunday lunches I’ve had several at the Red Dragon , so assume they either have new owners or a new chef. The Menu cards on display also seem different now since my last visit. The Red Dragon Litchard is a regular place we eat as a couple and with my family . Wasn’t fussy on the space at table 10 on this visit, But that’s what was allocated to us. Always friendly staff and bookable tables via the app, think these are new staff as none of the usual who were there previously were serving on this visit. Nice choice of refreshing drinks on tap. We will visit again and see what their standards of other choices on the menu .

The Red Dragon has never failed me. Despite leaving Bridgend over 32 years ago, it’s still where I head to for a good family meal, and drinks. As well as great value, there’s always a relaxed , homely feel. I highly recommend the Sunday lunch & hunters chicken !

We booked several days ago for Sunday at 5pm because we still had a 30% voucher to use. That morning, I had a phone call to ask if we could arrive by 4.45pm but didn't say why. I agreed, assuming it was because they were busy. However, when we got there we were told the kitchen was closing at 5pm and we had to order straight away. Our order was taken wrongly for our daughter but by the time it arrived and we explained, we were told it couldn't be changed, although we could have a free child's dessert. The bar staff were rude throughout and made it clear they wanted to go home. They were clearing our table of menus and things while we were still eating. Really disappointed. We're very local but don't think we'd risk going there again for a while. Really poor and would expect better.

Hadn't been for years and the group decided to come here. Pudding was the best part of my meal.

I’ve given this pub a wonderful review before now. But, not anymore. I looked up the Sunday lunch menu on the website. So we knew what to expect. Well, the thin bit of paper menu didn’t match up with the online menu at all. I ended up having a starter as a main as there’s was nothing I could eat apart from the veggie chilli (I unfortunately don’t like spices). My son wanted the ultimate burger. But, that wasn’t an option all they had was a cowboy burger which looked dry. There were no deserts available on the menu either. Very disappointed and won’t be returning. We had to go and have food from elsewhere. Please don’t put online a lovely and extensive menu, if the one you offer isn’t the same.

Absolutely fantastic food and a great atmosphere pub. We go practically every week. Best food and pub in Bridgend especially now that Gareth has taken it over Excellent value for money service brilliant by all staff!! Everyone so friendly and everyone needs to taste their Sunday lunch don’t go for the biggest portion you’ll never eat it all 🤣 A big thank you to Mr Gareth Thomas and all of his staff but please can I leeke and potato sausages 🤣 see you tomorrow Claire Hayes xx

New landlord and I’d say even better atmosphere and service. Bar and waiting staff very efficient and friendly. We had a meal Friday evening. Was so impressed we returned Saturday rather than cooking. Looking forward to seeing a good singer there on a Saturday which is always a good night. We will be back. Keep up the good work

My Mum and I had a beautiful beef dinner at the Red Dragon in Litchard this Sunday,its the best roast dinner we have ever had out,it was delicious in taste,thick cut tender beef slices,cabbage,carrots,broccoli,mash,new potato,roast potato, gravy,with and extra gravy boat,and a huge Yorkshire pudding, everything was cooked to perfection, we would definitely recommend and we will be going back,great service and nice happy staff.

Our local when we visit the in-laws. Always friendly and helpful staff and good food. Reliable offerings that are decently priced. Tonight the chef was even willing to customize some things for us and even came out to chat to us. Always a good time to be had here!
