Eaten in and had takeaway from Beals and always had wonderful food. All of us love the fish and chips, and even the dog gets excited and reconises it now. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, and great service

This is the best chipshop / cafe in Porthcawl, in my opinion. It has an eat-in or takeaway option with a licensed bar. The food is beautiful and the staff are all very friendly and helpful with ample size portions. There are plenty of seating options in the cafe where you can enjoy your food in the warm on bad winter days. There are public toilets that are kept very clean in this establishment and also opposite by the children's play area, which is very convenient to sit and eat whilst watching your children play on the beautiful sunny days. This is a place we always eat when hungry and in the area. I highly recommend you visit this establishment if you're ever in the area. It is very reasonably priced

Great food good service bit pricey but worth the extra cash

Asked for vegetarian options to go with my curry sauce and chips (in the restaurant), and was offered a jacket potato. Curry and chips were fab, would have been nice to have had something else to go with it. Bit disappointed really.

Been coming here for years and years,I live a hour away but still visit at least every fortnight,however after getting so fed up of the miserable staff,crappy portions and ridiculous wait times I’m now visiting other chip shops as I’ve realised this place doesn’t give a crap that your a regular customer.you can have 3 different staff serve you and all 3 portions will vary from very scabby, scabby and average ! It’s the only chip shop that seems to want to keep the stock! Final straw was watching staff use hands to swap food on plates for restaurant side….gross

We have been going to Beales for twenty years , always fantastic fish and chips and great service. Unfortunately, the last time we went the fish was of poor quality and very small. However, we hoped it was a one off so went today for lunch. The cod was more like plaice, as it was so thin and was merged in the batter. Both of our cod was very thin and not much of it, so unfortunately, this will be the last time we go there, we are so upset as we always loved it there. It is such a shame that they have not kept up their excellent fish which used to be lovely and thick. To be honest, we have had better frozen cod than this quality.

Not the best fish and chips I’ve ever had - two slimy thin offcuts of fish, slapped together and battered to appear as one piece that just fell apart as soon as my knife and fork cut into it - the chips were distinctly average too. I could understand it (and still not like it) if it was the height of the season or even a Friday night, but this was early on a Thursday evening. Beales used to be dependable but this was crap. Really can’t recommend this place - there’s better in walking distance.

For some silly reason we decided to have fish and chips and take them out and eat them by the beach in -1 conditions 🤷‍♀️however we are always up for a challenge. The food was delicious cannot fault the service, the weather was freezing but very beautiful scenery.

Chicken curry and chips beautiful

Superb place for super speedy service and the food down to the very last chip and the light batter is amazing chicken portions perfect too, no matter how many of us or when we go there or have a takeaway the food is always amazingly delicious every single time ! We really enjoy and appreciate the consistency of the excellent food and we no longer go to our previous regular , it’s sooo good and worth every penny when we can afford to treat ourselves. Thankyou Beales we always bring our visitors who always clear plates and compliment how enjoyable everything is too .. But , can we please have ketchup bottles on the table with the salt and pepper and the vinegar. Also a lemon on the plate with our fish and a little dish of tatare sauce as the tiny sachets are fiddly and quite time consuming to open them all before being able to get started on the feast of enjoyment in front of us 😋

Popped here yesterday it was very nice the Fish was very lightly battered just perfect. The chips were nice. Also the staff are very lovely and helpful and told us a little bit about things that were going on in the area. However I did find it very expensive for a family of 4 to eat here.

Tasty and nicely cooked quality chips, with a nice sizeable portion to satisfy your appetite. That's what we enjoyed during our visit to Beales. We were also provided with a generous supply of tomato sauce. The large monitor on the wall facing our table displayed video footage of Porthcawl Beach and the sea at various times of the day. We were able to relax and chat while enjoying the best chips we've had for a while.

This place used to be good value, but it seems you're just paying for the name nowadays. If you look around, there are better value deals close by. The food here is good, but there's always a queue and a wait. Parking is also difficult.

Whenever we are in Porthcawl we never fail to have great fish and chips from them. Chips so good they can be refried the next day and still taste great. The fish, cod, white, chunky and tasty wrapped in a crisp crunchy batter. I have read a few of the "terrible" reviews and cannot for the life of me wonder if they are in the wrong place. Been going to Beales for auite a few years and will continue to do so. Well done Beales, Keep it up

we had 3 sit down meals haddock and chips for 2 and a beans and chips and have too say you will be doing well to get better very very nice

A very nice quality chip shop in Porthcawl..

Ordered a regular chips and jumbo sausage, no jumbo so the young lady gave me 4 regular sausages. Yes FOUR!!! That more than made up for it, only 3 star for food mind as chips were bland, there are better chips in porthcawl a short walk away if I'm honest. Curry was decent mind!

Well I didn't think I could find anything worse than boxed fish from a supermarket but today I did wet black minced fish and thick greasy batter worse fish I've ever had and the staff are miserable too

This is the best fish and chips in south Wales ice never had a bad meal it's always top quality I visit every Friday its well worth driving from Cardiff just to get this quality of food they really do it well here I can highly recommend everything!

Have always had cod and chips as a take away from here, and gone back time and time again as very good. How disappointed I was tonight, when visiting the café side and having steak and kidney pie and chips. I'd fancied gravy with it also, and was later glad that I did, as the pie was very dry, but think an additional £1.95 for a small dish of gravy to make it pleasant to eat was a bit much. However, my main complaint was the size of the pie. I was really surprised when it arrived, as it was a really tiny, round pie, and not deep either, which probably accounted for its dryness. They really would have been better buying pies of the regular size and charging more, as I feel as if I was short changed. Chips were their usual good quality. Although I've always been more than happy with their fish it will be a long time before I bother to go there for pie again.

What a great place to have traditional fish and chips. Great tasting fish, and the chips were pretty good as well. All swilled down with a glass of dandelion and burdock drink.

First time for us looked like a long queue so we joined the end nobody mentioned that they were waiting for their food customers coming in the door going to the counter giving their order then joining the queue only then we noticed what was going on still know one said anything to us but on the plus side the food was amazing worth the wait

Visited your store on Sunday and I was left disappointed with the service. There is no system in place for customers who have placed their orders the shop was full of customers waiting. Neither the customers or the staff knew who had placed an order. I think a better system could easily be put in place and help yourselves and the customer during your busy periods

Stopped for dinner this evening after visiting porthcawl on a whim. Fantastic food. We ate in the restaurant part of this establishment. One of the best haddock and chips ever. Super quality fish and the batter was superb - light but satisfying and stayed crunchy. Partner had faggots which she said was great. Irish curry sauce and mushy peas were tip top too. The staff were lovely and very efficient.

Best Chippy in Porthcawl and probably in South Wales, the Cod is to die for, fresh as it comes. Crispy chips with fluffy insides. Service is second to none, one young man could smile a bit more instead of flexing his muscles looking rather constipated.

So we tried out the fish and chips yesterday they were extremely tasty here. We had the gravy and the mushy peas which were excellent. The fish was lovely and soft and the bottom was very light. Highly recommend this place.

Haven't been here for a number of years, but had food here Friday and it was perfect, a little expensive, but when you have perfect food it's worth paying just that little bit more.

Beales is famous in Porthcawl. Great taste and reasonably large portions. I couldn't finish my order, it was just too big. Fish, Chips and Curry Sauce around £12.50. Not cheap, but as this kind of meal goes, not unreasonable.

Been 3 times and every time the fish has been delicious and the chips are also fantastic with great salt and vinegar on them! Also the curry sauce is great! 5*

This must equal the best fish and chips I've ever had. The fish ourself was cooked to perfection with the lightest, crispiest batter you can imagine. Chips were also perfect. We ate in the restaurant rather than getting a takeaway. This meant we also got the choice of having salad instead or do as I did, have half and half. Salad was also tasty. Will be going again.

This place didn’t disappoint! A little expensive but there was six of us but everything was freshly cooked. The fish was perfect and light batter thoroughly enjoyable. The staff were very nice also thank you.

I have been going to Beales for in excess of 25 years and I have found the food to be very good, however in a recent visit I found my fish and chip meal was very disappointing, the haddock was tiny and the chips all bitty and small in quantity! Once again another price rise to over £13. Sorry never worth it!! I also found the waitress quite rude! A real shame from my part.

I recently had takeaway x2 cod bites and chips , chicken nuggets no chips and x1 can of coke and got charged £18.10 I think I ether got charged fro wrong food or this is well over priced !

Came here on an unusual cold miserable day in June ! Food was fresh and delicious and served with a friendly face. A must visit if in Porthcawl and support a local family run business.

I go here once a year when I go to Porthcawl. Always have my lunch here because they are the best . Was there today 18th June abiut 1230. No queues, the restaurant was less than halfull. Waited a short time for a plate of really hot cod and chips. Superb white fish in a lovely batter. Plate of chips also, both absolutely dry as in no oil or fat. No contest anywhere as far as I am concerned. 12/10. Scrupulesly clean, table and chairs cleaned after use Can't praise it too highly.

Very disappointed by the quality of the food and the lacklustre service. We were told it was the best in Porthcawl I’d hate to see the worst!

The food is well-cooked and tasty, but the prices are quite high compared to other places, and the portion sizes are disappointingly small. Additionally, parking is a significant issue as there are very few spots available, making it difficult to find a place to park.

Amazing food, as always for over 20 years. Staff so accommodating, couldn’t do enough for my disabled wife Food was served so fast, so many people wanting tables, we timed it just right.

The woman that supervises the cafe side of the business is bossy and controlling, she makes you feel like you are walking on egg shells and everything you do is scrutinised, this makes for an uncomfortable and unwelcoming experience...I've experienced this a few times so finally I feel I have to complain, other restaurants make you feel welcome ......she makes you feel very much you are on her turf and in her controlling environment.

The cod was very nice, but the chips were a bit earthy.

My partner and I recently shared an endeavour to this run of the mill establishment. Upon arriving to our destination, Beales, we were greeted by an extensive queue of eager beavers. My partner was unable to even begin his experience at Beales for an approximate 10 minutes! This was most likely due to the very poor work efficiency shown by the staff. When my partner eventually spoke to the lady at the counter he ordered 2 Chips, a jumbo sausage, fish bites, curry sauce and gravy which to our surprise set us back £14.95! We also noticed that customers before us received an approximate wait time for their order, however we were not awarded such luxury and had to guess when our food would be ready. We also happened to witness an employee place an order (the exact same order as my partners!)a few minutes after us and much to our regret the employee received their food in a much more time efficient manner than we were granted. After placing our order with the kitchen we waited a further 15 minutes for the food to arrive. Upon tucking into our dinner we noticed that there was heaps of excess salt spilling out of the packaging (see picture attached). However, our food was fairly decent (for a chip shop).

Overrated, small portions, expensive, and quality is no better than other fish and chip shops. Plus’s cheese and chips is on menu but they do not serve cheese so no cheese and chips available. Visit was on the Monday bank holiday but no excuse.

Always a great plate of cod & chips. Although cost now means not as many visits as we would like.
