Definitely one of the best restaurants in Bridgend; fine dining with excellent service, lovely and creative food options, good wine and at a reasonable price. Highly recommended!

What a treat what a stunning building this is. Went out for my parents anniversary and this was the perfect location they have been here many times before but this is a first for us. The food was so wonderful. I would highly recommend anybody coming here for food. We had a few cocktails. They were extremely nice a little bit expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Went here with my wife for Santes Dwynwen. It was wonderful. The fire was keeping up cosy, the service was excellent and the food was unique and tasted superb. The menu is full of innovative dishes, if you like trying different combinations, I thoroughly recommend this place. The venue is full of history and the buldings still have nearly all of their original features, a truly one off experience.

My wife and another family member both chose a battered fish option from the light bites menu. Arrived with a light batter and on a bed of pea purée. A nice variation on a pub classic. I opted for the vegetarian option of the mushroom stroganoff and I have to say it was probably the nicest version of this dish that I have sampled. The variety of types of mushrooms in the dish was quite exotic and far removed from the usual mundane button mushrooms. The crispy polenta and kale added to the mix of interesting tastes. Again, a great variant on a popular vegetarian dish. Overall, a very pleasant culinary experience, enjoyed with a pint of a local Welsh ale.

Anyone who thinks this is a good Sunday lunch must be a non cook as at £140 for a table of 4 ( with drinks) was so inferior to my wife's cooking the chef should be embarrassed to serve it. The beef was tough, the roast potatoes tasted like the frozen variety and not proper gravy. Worst of all the vegetables were all served in one bowl between four people so it was impossible to be selective as you could serve up soggy cauliflower cheese which carrots, peas etc. in one scoop. When we complained about the vegetables the chef must have taken exception as they brought out a huge bowl carrots. I did not want to leave a review but as I wrote to Leicester's and received no reply I thought others needed to aware before booking.

A bit late writing this review, but just getting around to it now. We chose this restaurant as we had family visiting and this place had great reviews. We were a party of 4 adults and a baby. We were not disappointed, the restaurant itself is very beautiful in a old building with lots of character and the food was really good. There was no children's menu available but the lovely staff were happy to cook up some soft cauliflower cheese for our little one. A very enjoyable experience and I would absolutely recommend this restaurant, especially for valentines day and anniversaries as it does have a lovely romantic feel to it.

Having been here before and had a great meal (partner wrote a positive review) we booked again for a treat. It felt different this time and a bit of a mixed bag really. The portions of bread appeared a little stale around the edges. Starters were good. Unfortunately for 32.00 each the steak was a bit of a disappointment. Overcooked and fatty around the edges. Desert was great and very well presented. Like a lot of places, prices have understandably increased but it felt like the service and standards were a bit hit and miss.

Our children had bought us the six course tasting menu as a Christmas present and it was amazing. Food and service superb! Bread and chicken skin butter gorgeous, haddock welsh rarebit and beautiful tomato and herb bedding gorgeous. Lamb terrine with micro veg and broth off the scale. Sirloin steak and all the trimmings just fabulous. Loved the chilled rhubarb crumble and the ice cream on the cheesecake dessert lovely. Only disappointment was the scallop and kimchi course; kimchi and chilli overpowered the gorgeous perfectly cooked scallop. (But as would have given 6 stars not an issue) Definitely 100% recommend this restaurant!!!!!

Every Christmas time my Spouse & I dine here - it is a tradition of ours. This year was a disappointment. The food is usually five stars - but this year it wasn’t. The bread was stale and the food just average not amazing as it used to be. Vegetarian option was glamorgan sausages which tasted like mass produced ones. Bland. Since the restaurant changed ownership, service is not the same as years ago. Nice servers but very young & inexperienced. Sadly, it’s not the five star experience it used to be. I hope Leicesters will up its game & set higher standards soon.

Initial impressions suggest pub grub and typical traditional meals, as you make your way in through the adjoining hotel. Looks can be deceiving, the food is magnificent. Ox cheek starter was superb, as was the risotto main. Lovely sirloin steak and battered cod. Some great choice on the menu ranging from seafood to Welsh lamb. All presented and tasting to near Michelin levels but with good portion sizes that won’t leave you hungry. Well worth a visit.

We travelled some distance to meet up with my parents (who had also travelled some distance) for a Christmas get-together and present swap. To my horror I realised that I'd forgotten I was supposed to book the table and the restaurant was fully occupied. The staff saved the day and were fantastic, very quickly setting up a table - fully laid up, white tablecloth, napkins, table decoration, everything - in front of a newly-lit fire in the hotel lounge bar. We effectively had our own private dining room. The menu was was high-end, the food beautifully presented and delicious and the service superb. My thanks to all at the restaurant for making our family Christmas meal so very good. We will be visiting again.

Disappointing. The king prawn fish finger starter was mediocre. The duo of lamb main course was tasty and the seasonable vegetables were flavoursome marred only by the fact that they hadn’t been properly drained so the water had pooled at the bottom of the serving dish. Both my husband’s dessert ( the carrot cake) and mine (the banana bread pudding) were poor and totally tasteless.

As a family of 4 (2 of which over 80) we ate here last night as part of the government scheme for my partners birthday. Firstly I want to say the meals were lovely. I booked the table for 6.45 but when we arrived they had it down as 7.45. I know I wouldn’t have booked that time as we don’t like to eat after around 7 but again this wasn’t much of an issue as we sat outside and had a drink while we waited. I was surprised at how messy the toilets were and how long it took for tables to be cleared. I am trying to be fair here as I know they probably have limited staff due to social distancing, that said when I accidentally tipped my coffee a staff member came over with a tea towel and was literally touching me as he tried to clean the table. I suggested that he take all the empty glasses and plates away and I will wipe the table down. I was surprised that the staff were not wearing face masks which I don’t think is mandatory in wales but I was in Greece 2 weeks ago and all waiters had face masks and there was hand sanitiser on every table (In greece) and it felt far more reassuring. They did have a sanitiser dispenser machine as you enter the restaurant (no sanitiser on the tables outside either but we had brought our own).I would rather see a much more ‘Greece style’ approach before I rush back out to a restaurant again. The other thing I noticed is when I asked for salt and pepper they were brought from another table to ours, the salt was empty so when I asked for another, again it was just brought from another customers table. These should temporarily be in sachets or at least wiped down before given to another customer. I felt I was eating out pre covid and not during Covid. If all restaurants in wales standards towards covid are this minimal I would rather not bother.

My husband bought me the Tasting Menu as a Christmas present. We popped in in January to see the menu and were told by the new chef that as he had only just started there he hadn't yet created one. He then asked us what we liked/disliked and said he would create one and email it to us. We basically had a tailormade menu! We went 2 weeks later. And WOW! The food was sublime. Everything was amazing. The attention to detail was incredible. The flavours stunning! My only comment, if pushed, and can't believe I am saying this, but the portions were probably slightly too large for a 6 course tasting menu. I was so full I didn't eat again for 24 hours! We have been to many Michelin starred restuarants and this menu was on a par with all of them. Charlotte waited perfectly; bring out each course at same time and explaining what we were having. Chef came out and asked us if everything was alright. Honestly, like Keith J said, do not understand poor reviews.

My daughter booked a table as a birthday treat for me and having not been here since it was formally Restaurant Tommy Heaney, which although still good I found it a little pretentious, I was a little unsure of what to expect. From start to finish the service we received was seamless but not stuffy. Especially at my age I find it a little patronising when people refer to you as “Sir” or “Madam” when it’s insincere. There was none of that here it was professional yet relaxed. The gentleman server whom I believed to be the manager really knew his stuff about both food and wine. The food itself again was faultless I’m a big seafood lover so I chose the Scollops for starters and Seabass for mains both beautifully presented and delicious. I was tempted to try a dessert but was suitably full after my first 2 courses. My daughter however has not stopped raving about her toffee apple cake so from that I gather lived up to the previous courses.I will have no hesitation in returning to Leicester’s and have already recommended to visiting friends that we make this a stop during our reunion.

I booked an overnight stay in Bridgend on our way to Dunraven Bay. I was taking my partner for a birthday treat the following day. I thought it nice to take him out for a birthday meal while in town. We'd been on the motorway for several hours and were famished. I'm not sure what happened to the restaurant on the night of our visit but, I mean it was certainly an experience. The waiter was friendly, prompt, and knew the menu well. The restaurant was empty upon our arrival - somewhat telling considering this was 8:30PM on a Friday night. We were seated in a cosy corner of the restaurant when I told the waiter it was my partners birthday. At least, it would have been cosy if it wasn't beside an open fire exit on a cold November evening. As my other half was quite famished having been training hard for the Royal Navy all week and not eaten since 2PM we asked for some bread while reviewing the menu. We were charged £4 for the side order which was duly presented in an aluminium lunch box lined with slate. Great. I mean, it would have been if the bread hadn't been picked straight from the Sainsbury's Basics isle. Focaccia? Ciabatta? No, that's white loaf and soda bread dipped in a bit of weak olive oil. Two whole slices (each cut in two to make it appear more plentiful). But it's OK, we had complimentary something served in oyster shells. I'm trying to remember exactly what it was we were served but whatever it was, was literally the size of my little finger nail. I did my best to hold whatever it was in my mouth for long enough to deduce a taste but it was literally smaller than my taste buds. I'm none the wiser.Starter - as far as I can tell I was served a babybell. Minuscule, bland, accompanied with a couple of crumbs of allegedly candied walnut but there were too few crumbs to tell.Main - a good cut of sea bass. A good, tiny cut of sea bass atop a bed of some substance devoid of any flavour whatsoever. I spent £43 after a sizeable discount and we left starving, still unsure exactly what we'd been served.

I was a member of a group booking of approx 24 persons. Following a meeting in a first floor room the whole group was seated for lunch on three tables by 1 pm. Everyone was eagerly awaiting their meal having devoured the bread while we waited when the starters eventually arrived at 1.45 pm. The size of the starters, particularly the mackerel was the source of a mixture of ridicule and amusement and would be comparable with a portion served as a taster. My main course of beef was disappointing, two thirds of the meat being fat and gristle which I made no attempt to eat. At this point had I not been a part of a large party I would sent sent the meal back but in the circumstances I did not wish to embarrass the group organiser. The Yorkshire pudding was dry, the vegetables cold and unappetising, we were served roast carrots, cabbage and swede- no sign of the braised red cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli cheese advertised on the menu! On our table the last to be served we were not offered the sauces nor any extra gravy. My dessert again was the size of a taster! the apple cheesecake appeared as a portion of cheesecake the size of a fish finger with a couple of teaspoons of stewed apple on the side. There was no sign of the promised apple sorbet and the waitress brought a few crumbs of cinnamon fudge as an afterthought on a separate plate! Perhaps it is unfair to criticise the slow service as the waiting staff cannot bring out the food until it is ready, the atmosphere seemed tense and uneasy. Given that all the meals were pre ordered there can be no excuse for this slow service. It is my understanding that this restaurant has changed hands at some point during the last twelve months, I had an excellent meal there previous to this. Does the present management bother to read the reviews? without exception all are terrible!

We ordered from the special lunchtime menu which was served efficiently and in good time -- all with big smiles. I did not like the presentation of the butter which was perched on top of a beach pebble and the lack of condiments on the dining table. The food served was well presented, well flavoured and certainly adequate for the average diner. Overall it was very pleasant. The total bill amounted to £56 including drinks and coffee. Visited the Great House in Laleston, Bridgend for afternoon tea which was served in the lounge rather than the dining room. It was a Tuesday and so we were the only ones in the lounge - this did not matter as the room was cosy and our table had been prettily laid. The tea was beautifully presented and composed of smoked salmon & cream cheese, home cooked ham and cucumber and herb mayonnaise sandwiches, large scones with raspberry jam and clotted cream, homemade cakes - banana, carrot, chocolate caramel tart, lemon cheesecake and a delightful blackberry and apple crumble soufflé. So much! A take-away box was thoughtfully provided!

OK - After the leaving of TH and the return of Leicesters and, as it was my birthday, the blonde and I thought we'd take advantage of a promo on the 6 course taster menu.

I have struggled to find a place that can actually cook a Sunday lunch but wow at last I've found it!! Lamb was cooked to perfection, roasties also cooked perfectly and gravy spot on! Presentation superb and outstanding service, I most definitely would recommend Leicesters!!

Not a fan of how the bar area has fitted out. Not very welcoming or cosy.

We had our Dinners in a Private Room Upstairs. The Service was excellent (we had ordered our Courses at Breakfast) and the quality of the food was 1st class. The Venison was particularly liked by those of us who had it.

I would like to say that the food was very nice and very well presented. It isn’t a cheap Sunday lunch however it was tasty with lots of veg side dishes. I think the chefs would be disappointed with how the front of house staff are delivering their meals.

Having wanted to visit this restaurant for many months I felt embarrassed that I recommended and booked it for my son’s 24th birthday. Young and old, not one of our party of nine were happy with this vastly overpriced restaurant. The building was beautiful though the restaurant itself lacked soul and character. We were given complimentary bread with our starters which was amazing (especially the unusually presented, delicious marmite and regular butter) however a number of our party had ordered bread as a starter hence the free bread came with bitter sweet appreciation when it was served at the same time. The starters, while magnificently presented, were obscenely overpriced for what was served. Our mains left us desperate for more food owing to the small portions served. The advertised steak was not in fact a steak but two small slices of overcooked meat that constituted at least a third grizzle. I complained and was told it was the first night of a new menu. The young staff were average though the prescience of one standing in close proximity to our table made us feel overly supervised and intrudingly observed. Having complained, 25% was reluctantly deducted off our bill however, even at 75% our food was still grossly over priced considering the ridiculously small amount of food that was served to us. We all left starving, highly disappointed swearing never to return again.

Lovely balanced 3 course £22 lunch, great service, lovely venue, food bursting with taste.I would recommend without reservation. The portions are a little small for a big eater like me!

We absolutely enjoyed the tasting menu; even dishes where we thought some combinations a bit strange, we appreciated the creativity. Our favourite dish was the Hake combination, though the quality of the lamb was also excellent. Having said all this, we can't say that we had a great evening. The service is good (though the Head Waitor needs to demonstrate more passion for the meals he presents) but what lets this restaurant down is the 'functional' surroundings. The furniture doesn't quite work and the playing of dance music on a single CD player because of problems with their music system was annoying. We were one of 4 tables being used and it was interesting that all of us left as soon as we had finshed our meal. Great food, but not a memorable evening.

We had a lovely lunch. It was a bit sad that the restaurant was very quiet, but not withstanding this, the service was excellent and the food really nice. The starters, mains and dessert were lovely. The wine was great and we were also given plenty of water. A nice touch at the end of our meal were the petit fours. Tommy may have left the building but our lunch was lovely. Can I please have the marmite butter recipe?!!

We visited this restaurant as a celebration meal for my fathers 80th birthday, and had a room to ourselves upstairs. The building was very 'old pub' style and was decrepit in places. There was no soap or way to dry your hands in the gentlemen's toilets, and staff did nothing about this despite being told at the start of our night. The staff were otherwise very attentive and helpful.

We went here for Sunday lunch and hoped for a lovely meal however it was not to be. The place is nice however the food is bland, little taste or flavour. The soup to start was ok but nothing to be remember however the main was shocking. The beef came out cooked blue and had to be sent back as it was still bleeding. It then came back clearly thrown on the grill and dumped back on the plate. The meat was tough and poor quality, there was hardly any gravy which again was bland and tasteless, along with the roast potatoes. The Yorkshire pudding was bad. My wife had the hake which again was not cooked well.

A really old lovely building with a pleasant garden which showed plenty of promise. We were recommended by a friend and had also read all the reviews which were 99% positive so it was disappointing that our expensive lunch did not live up to those reviews. Some of the food was very good but some was poor. We had to ask several times for the wine list, an incorrect dessert was brought and when it was changed some time after the rest of the party had eaten it was frozen solid and as a result rather tasteless. Is this something to do with the chef having other ventures in Cardiff?

After having bumped into Tommy on Pen-y-fan, we had to try his restaurant and to say every course was stunning would be an understatement, although not cooking when we visited, his staff provided a memorable meal and dining experience with the flavours and presentation exceptional and the service to match

We had a meal here with a group of people. It was a set main course then pick your pudding. So I can only comment on the fish which was stunning very tasty. plenty of veg with it. all very well cooked and presented. The bread was also very good and unusual. I had the Jaffa cake pudding which was also excellent. So why I have only given it a 4/5 rating. The service was not good and very confused. The one waiter could have come straight from Fawlty towers. Putting dishes down in front of people to whip them away to then putting exactly the same dish back in front of the person two moments latter. The veg one of the vegetable dishes came out quickly after the fish not serving spoons although they were asked for. the second dish of veg came out about ten minutes after the first still no spoons and most people had used their dessert spoon to dish up the veg and started their meal, the serving spoons for the veg came about 10 mins after the second lot of veg. There was a small amount of water in bottles on the table when we sat down which we helped ourselves too. Although I asked a few time if we could have more water it never arrived.

Was so looking forward to this visit having come from Canada to meet with family. As you enter there is a lovely rustic welsh table with bread. Sadly we got to an hour into our meal and three requests to three different waiting staff before it arrived. There was butter on the table marmite flavour beatifiully positioned on a pebble but so tantalizing only needed some bread. Sadly one of the items on our starter fell off the plate on the floor and we had asumed that we would be presented with a new full plate but the missing item only was presented back. Hmmm not sure how that could have gone through a server and a chef as the right decision !

We were in Maesteg for a visit and thought we’d call into the market but found it had permanently closed 5 months previously. This cafe used to be in the market but is now in a precinct area just outside of it. We both went for the all day breakfast for £4 - great value - bacon, sausage, egg, hash brown, beans or tomatoes, mushrooms and toast as well as a mug of tea or coffee. For an extra £1 you could have had another egg, bacon, sausage, hash brown and a slice of black pudding. The place was clean and tidy and the staff friendly. If we ever return to Maesteg we’d be happy to return here.

This is an awful Pub. The images on here are old. The place looks grotty and tired now. The staff are not too alert either. An unwelcoming place with far better pubs within 100 yards of this.
