The Robert Shaw in Bolton

Went tonight, food was absolutely shocking. Burger was tiny.and had 6 chips. I know it's cheap food...but not that cheap. My friend got bbq chicken melt. It was awful undercooked bacon, a dehydrated mushroom with fork marks in. And I'm not even going to mention the dried out pizza. Think they should start using smaller plates, as there was more plate than food.

My friends took me on a date here, and I loved it. The ambience was great. I absolutely loved the cappuccino, and you get 3 refills 🤣😅 even though I was okay with just a cup.

Amazing staff food and atmosphere very clean modern and welcoming

Had small fish chips and mushy peas here today, chips good, peas good, the fish was basically a big scrap, very disappointing.

I really enjoy the steaks at the Robert Shaw, a beer and a steak meal for just over £14. The service is fast and efficient and you can order via their app.

Had breakfast and after a few brews then a beer. Quite a nice place, but typical spoons, toilet upstairs.

Fab , good price. We attended the Monday pub quiz which was lots of fun .

This is a very popular brand that is nothing flash but does have an awful lot going for it. This particular outlet is a big place with a large main room, seating upstairs and a nice outdoor area for the summer. We called in early on a Thursday evening and it was already busy and we managed to snake the last table. Despite this, the service was fast and friendly And we didn't have to wait long. Unsurprisingly, they had a great range of drinks at very reasonable prices. I tried a Christmas bitter which was okay but had a slight taste to it. I couldn't be bothered going back to the bar though so just drank it!

Excellent service. Staff amazing. They never stop. Sometimes it looks like they are rushed off their feet. Always pleasant and friendly. Well done.

Orders came quickly. Coffee is self-serviced from a machine. The plant based burger was "ok". It didn't blow my mind but the chips were lovely.

Ordered madras curry with rice it turned up the rice resembled roof insulation dark yellow one lump the nasn bread was nice but swimming in oil same with poppadoms but tasted OK picked up a bottle of mango there was more on the bottle than in a sticky mess everywhere staff faultless

Absolutely love the “do it yourself” vibe when the microwave rice comes still in the bag. Nearly dislocated my jaw on the Tennessee burger but I’ve managed to use the chicken as a sole for my work boots, I think the durability of it may actually surpass that of Magnum.

Nice pub and lovely beer garden sadly there are far too many people smoking and vaping in the clearly marked no smoking area. We no longer eat here and often don’t stop for more than 1 drink as it is not nice when people are vaping on the next table in the non smoking area. Have raised this issue with staff on numerous occasions but all they do is sympathise with us that people shouldn’t be vaping / smoking there. If you are not going to enforce your no smoking area you may as well get rid of it

The only thing the Robert shaw has got marginally right is that they sell punk iPa. But even with that said 7 out of ten times you go in it's clear they haven't cleaned the lines. I can't speak for the rest of the beer but making it cheap doesn't fix the issue. The food apart from the sides I.e 3 for ten. Chicken wings garlic bread ect I wouldn't feed too my dog. They must have competitions on how badly they can present the food. It's almost asif they don't want you too come back. Well unfortunately for me I did with my dad. Too try what should be a nice pint. We stuck the remainder of the change out of a tenner into one of there machines and we hit the bonus for a possible max win of 100 pounds. The machine malfunctioned.... made a complaint and waiting 4 weeks for a reply ahha We certainly will not be going back now after not even a free pint in compensation 🤣🤣🤣 it's the wheatsheaf for us from now on.

Just went in really out of the rain for a drink ,stayed to have food which was good and the few beers we had were cold and spot on ,service staff friendly so would return

The food for the price is very good. However, staff did not wash the table which was very dirty before putting our food on it and we had to ask him to wash the table first. Atmosphere is not great either and noisy.

This is essentially a Wetherspoons that utilises the actor's historical connections with the town. It is a popular pub in the area. The food was reasonable and so was the company when we visited,

You know what you get with this particular chain of pubs and this is as good as branch as any. It is a big place but still gets pretty full and always has a decent atmosphere. Indeed, it has the usual fantastic range of drinks at very reasonable prices 3 pints of good beer cost less than £8 which is not far off the price of one in some other places! They always seem to have plenty of stuff on which is great so you get served quickly and the staff are friendly and professional. They seem to be doing plenty of food but we were there just for drinksand weed relevant memorabilia about the Pub around the walls.

Awful, absolutely awful! Ordered drunks for 10 people, it took 45 mins and 2 extra trips to the bar before the group were served....food on the floor left by previous diners was reluctantly swept up but was only part done before bringing back someone to do it......sorry but this was not a good experience!!!!!!

They are not able to make any refund if you placed an order in wrong place :) I am in Man City right now and the website wont detect any location. Very sad the staff called “Louis” He said I won’t make any refund for you and it’s your fault. The Paramount - Wetherspoon says you can ask them for refund, why not?! Yeh, Louis why you don’t make me a refund? I didn’t get your pizza and cider but I paid it. Right! Louis, so how can you handle my pizza and cider?! Will you eat it or back it home?

A better spoons compared to some of the others out there. Although it depends on the day sometimes it's quite crowded and it's not ideal but it's decent otherwise

Everyone loves a bargain, cheap and cheerful, fast standard quality food, washed down with your choice of beverage. Free refills on tea and coffee make this a good option for food any time of day.

Come here most weeks and thought I'd try the steak and kidney pudding. I wouldn't bother if you're thinking of having it as it was dry as a bone and you'd only get at least a table spoon of filling inside, the taste of the filling is really nice but by the time you stuck a chip in it, it was all gone. Staff are always lovely and polite ht the atmosphere was a bit rough as a hen party was in. The noise of them speaking!!! Shouting more like!!!! You couldn't even hear your partner who was less then a foot away. I will come back as I do like the place but that pudding shouldn't even be served to dogs. 😭😭

Best Wetherspoons around, foods normally half decent and I've never had a bad pint from here. Good atmosphere and normally nice and busy.

It's a Weatherspoon's! Expect good beer at good prices. We had fish and chips with a beer at a very reasonable price. Lots of locals enjoying the place so a pleasant hum of conversation makes for a good atmosphere. Also there is parking nearby off Cricketers Way.

It's a spoons, you know what to expect here but the place is clean and tidy, toilets are clean (top floor!) and the beer is good, craft ales too and cheap.

How did I not know this place had a beer garden? Last time I went outside it was just a smoke shelter, but now 2 levels of decking which are a sun trap. Great place to spend a sunny afternoon drinking

Didn't fancy cooking so went out to the Robert Shaw, named after Westhoughton famous son. First visit and it was steak night so we ordered 1 classic and two gourmet sirloin. Brought to the table but the the gourmet only had peas and half a tomato, lifting my steak I found my one mushroom, but no sign of our 3 onion rings. £3 extra for peas, half a tomato 1 mushroom (to be fair the menu did say 'mushroom' singular) I'm sure going to have my 3 onion rings. I like my steak very well done, but it was bloody like a medium, and half was grisly. The girl came to clear the table but I told her no still waiting for my onion rings, my son had been back to the bar to inform them. She brought them dumped on the table and shrugged without a word. 0 for customer service me thinks. Poor won't be back any time soon

A typical Wetherspoons, loads of seating. Same menu/prices as all Wetherspoons. Great value for money and a cheap day/evening out for food and drinks. Toilets are upstairs but disability loos are downstairs.

First time visiting the area after being recommended it the previous week. As a family we like to venture out somewhere different on a Saturday. Very impressed in here, staff in abundance, toilets in the same postcode. Bar counter clean and dry makes a refreshing change. I have posted an in depth Google review.My 11 year old son ate, we didn't. Very impressesd in all areas.

Had many wetherspoons pizzas..all have been very good...First time here and the worst pizza I've had from spoons.

I ordered the lemon and herb chicken with salad which I have had many times before and haven't had any complaints, however, on this visit the chicken was awful. There was hardly any chicken on the piece I got and it was full of very small bones. Definitely will not be ordering this again.

Good staff, good service, and very quick. My only comment would be getting to the bar from the upper floor through the labyrinth of tables on the lower floor near the bar. But it's not that big of an issue.

Robert Shaw . The star of Jaws . Was born here the service was great the good and beers were of great variety. Staff polite friendly and knowledgeable. Toilets upstairs as nearly.. all wetherspoons pubs only a few are on ground floor . Highly recommended xx

The service from the young ladies at the bar are horrendous. They don't crack a smile and don't even make you feel comfortable in wanting to buy a beer. Service is a big must and it costs nothing to smile and give good service. My honest opinion them ladies give me the impression they don't even want to work behind the bar with how they look.

Popped in for breakfast on a wet and drizzly Saturday morning. The food was exactly what you expect at a Wetherspoons establishment. Perfectly acceptable nosh that just filled the gap adequately. If you want value for money in a comfortable environment, this is for you.

Didn't have any food yesterday but it's always good food in there

I know standards across 'spoons can vary, but this comment took the biscuit. Ordered a rare steak. Paod extra for the small jug of pepper sauce. First steak visibly blackened on the outside, a chewy tough deep brown throughout. "Excuse me this isn' t rare" "no p4oblem sir, ill get you a fresh RARE steak." The next steak arrived, and wasn't charred like the first one, but suspiciously no juices on the plate and cutting into it revealed it wasnt rare. So embarrassingly we had to stop the waiter and point out, this still isnt rare. At this point we were informed you camt have another steak, wnd whem i pointed out anyone can plainly see it's not pink amd no juices, the wasn't pointed out he wasnt a chef. Fair enough, hes not dressed as a chef and isnt working in a kitchen. Which makes the next line priceless. "it must be a problem with the steaks" I actually laughed, what are they flammable or something? Thankfully the waiter skilfully diffused the situation with that comedy line, delivered woth a slightly antagobosed expression on his face. Upon removing the plate to take it back to the kitchen, he wouldnt let us keep the sauce. "but we paid extra for that, want to keep it" The sauce was promptly whipped away with the rest of the food. The manager, to his credit was very apologetic and made thinge right for the member of our party given the faulty steaks.

Pleasant enough place although the booth table still had plates left as well as cleaning stuff! Obviously somebody intended to clean it and must have got side tracked.

Called for breakfast, which was excellent. Unfortunately one of the coffee machines was broken, meaning long queues for the remaining machine. Maybe a couple more machines would be in order.

You know what you get with this brand and this place is a really good example of it. It sells a great range of excellent drinks at very reasonable prices. The young lady serving could smile a bit more, but other than that the service is good. it was on a Friday evening early and we went but it was still packed and we had to go up to the mezzanine area to get a seat. This turned out quite well in the end. I was with a friend I hadn't seen for ages and we could hear ourselves. Speak and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.

Steaks are 70% gristle, mushrooms uncooked, peppercorn sauce tasted like it had been open for a week… drinks only…

It's a shame that patrons don't respect the family area towards the rear of the pub and mind their languages / volume for younger visitors... The staff do not do anything about this either, they don't seem to care! The family area for young children is also directly in front of the rear doors for the beer garden / smoking area, so when the doors are open and a bit of breeze everyone gets the stench of cigarette smoke - would be better having the family area in an area where this would not happen . Other than that food is cheap and cheerful and so it's the beer.

Who doesnt mind a spoons breakie. Cheap cheerful and decent. Unlimited Brew and breakfast for less than a tenner. This place is well situed and is nicely set out witb plenty of seating. Still find it odd that people sit around boozing at 9am in the morning if not on a stag do or party but thats not my routine. Had many a breakfast and catchup with a mate over this here and will visit again. Free car park on shopping square just be wary of other people on here. I witnessed an old lady back into a car and just drive off.

General good value for basic expectations for this establishment in line with the price. However this time the service of the female bar staff member was rude & discourteous. The food was not good - curry was ok but the naan bread was so greasy & cold & the rice was cold. My husband had fish & chips & the supplier has obviously been changed as he says it was not as good as usual. He also said his food was Luke warm not hot. I expressed this to a waitress but she just took the plates & said she's let them know, no apology, no manager sent over, no offer of reduction in price/partial refund. I will not be returning again. An establishment is only as good as your last visit and based on this experience, if others follow suit, they won't be keeping many bums on seats for much longer!!

It's Witherspoons! Great beer choice at low prices. Great pub food menu. Delivered to your table in 10 minutes. Great food at Great prices. Can't go wrong with Wetherspoons. Indoor space is well appointed with lots of tables but still room to move around. Outdoor space is excellent especially on a sunny day.

Nice big spacious pub/food place Nice on a warm day . Sit outside in a patio area . Staff welcoming . Food is okay .where else can you get a steak meal and pint of beer for 12 quid or thereabouts….. nowhere ..
