The Riverside House Restaurant in Forest Heath

We had lunch and breakfast as well as a celebratory dinner here. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We started with prawn cocktail and whitebait which my husband thought was the best he'd had in a long while followed by duck and haddock and, as it was our anniversary, they surprised us with a meringue dessert, We equally enjoyed our lunch and breakfast all served by excellent helpful and friendly staff.

The lack of service does this business a huge disservice and fails to complement the reasonable food. All in this place is over priced and under delivers on value.

We came back to the riverside as we got married here 18 years ago. We had a lovely evening, the food was great and Susan and her restaurant team were amazing. Would definitely recommend!

Hotel is situated in a very peaceful setting. Pleasant riverside walk nearby Rooms clean & spacious Friendliest Hotel we have ever stayed in Staff were outstanding, friendly, polite & very helpful. Credit to them all Food was amazing, had breakfast, cream tea & evening meal. Compliments to the chef Cannot rate this hotel highly enough Highly recommend the hotel

The breakfast that accompanied our stat at the Riverside House restaurant was outstanding. Laura, our server, provided excellent customer service everyday. The breakfast include serve yourself items (including freshly baked croissants) and made to order hot items.

I found the Riverside House Hotel purely by chance when looking for a place to meet a friend for lunch halfway between where each of us lives. We've now been twice and are so pleased we discovered this lovely hotel. It has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and our lunch on each occasion has been great. The Eton Mess is well worth a special mention as it's delicious! The staff are friendly and welcoming. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

From the moment we arrived it only seemed to be the receptionist that was available to us. Two pots of tea between 7 of us, no one checked on us, no one asked if we wanted more tea, no one checked if we had any allergies or preferences. There were no spoons for the jam and cream. Asked for the bill and eventually just had to go and find someone. Food tasty but service extremely poor! Ruined a nice birthday surprise and not worth the £110!!

We stayed here for my husband birthday in January. The staff were friendly and helpful. We received an upgrade to a suite which was very spacious and clean. The restaurant was quiet but the service and the food was an excellent standard. Would like to return for a visit in the summer

We held our Daughters wedding here, it was booked in 2019 but due to covid was moved to 2022, at the time Jed was the manager, but now it is Julie. The wedding food was very good the chef did well. Suzanne a waitress as usual her service was next to none, she is always so helpful and kind. Sadly I can not say that about the new manager I found Julie very rude and abrupt, her attitude stinks, she needs to learn some people skills. Sadly the breakfast the next morning was cold no toaster out until they were asked, and not enough table and chairs out out and the bride and groom had to sit separately. The night before there were some gests who wanted to book breakfast for the Sunday but was told very abruptly yes we have already got down give extra gests, hence why not enough table and chairs. The gests also picked up on July abrupt manor. I also didn't take kindly to Julie going up to my Daughter the Bride whilst dancing and saying she owed £39, we had already had the invoice and paid it in full. When my Daughter told her this she replied we will sort it in the Morning, she was very hot and cold with no consistent attitude as a Manger.

We held our nans surprise 90th birthday party here yesterday . If I could give them more than 5 out of 5 I would ! The staff were brilliant at accommodating everything. Nothing was to much trouble . The food was just as amazing as the service . I would highly recommend this hotel .

Just returned from an excellent Sunday lunch, food and staff were excellent. We have recently moved into Mildenhall and renovating our house so we do not have a good kitchen yet. Lunch was so good that we booked for next week before we left.

We were a party of 20 for an evening meal. There were lots good points about out visit. Communication beforehand was excellent. We were emailed a copy of the menu when it became available and all choices were sent back. We found the menu very poor which showed as five of our party chose a jacket potato as couldn't find anything else to suit. We had our own big room and everything was laid out nicely. Everyone got exactly what was requested beforehand and all at the same time. The majority of out party were very pleased with their meal.

In a word -awful.....terribly managed-awful food- the head chef was wearing shorts! in a fine ding area!

First class service and food for a while (see previous reviews) at this nice hotel restaurant not sure if different chef on, but a pleasure to eat here today. Starters of scallops were presented well with nice dressing etc. The main all presented well an very tasty. The roast beef an lamb shank served with vegetables. Battered haddock, chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. The roasted artichoke, kale risotto as the veggie selection was surprisingly good. Deserts of banana split very good too.

This is the second time we have been to the riverside hotel after a prior experience where we weren’t overly happy we decided to try again. Starter and mains were lovely no worries there. Starter soup should come with butter if served with bread which I asked for and received after my fellow diners had nearly finished. Never mind, the chap serving was lovely. The mains came and the food was top notch as per usual however on a Sunday lunch condiments shouldn’t need to be asked for by the customer. Apple sauce, horse radish etc. A harassed waitress was overly passive with me in asking ‘is that everything for you, are you sure?’ with evident sarcasm after bringing the condiments. I don’t believe this request was unreasonable as last time we were here it was asked as lunch was served. Please don’t take your stress out on your customers if they’re not being unreasonable, it’s not kind. Dessert was a bit disappointing for a savoury orderer. The crackers were almost stale and one of the pieces of cheese had a curly hair on it which when discovered meant the rest of the platter was abandoned. No check backs in order to highlight this issue and I didn’t want to come across as anymore of a difficult customer as I already clearly had. It’s such a shame with service as the food is lovely. There was a young chap serving who seemed quite new who needs to keep up the good work! Pleasant young man.

We came here for a family Sunday lunch as recently moved to the area and trying out the local establishments. Upon entering we waited a few moments for staff to finish talking who then gestured us to the restaurant area. We were surprised to see it so quiet, as lady on the phone day before had suggested she had just managed to squeeze us in. The first thing we noticed were how the staff were dressed. Two waitresses were wearing black trousers yet colourful trainers. The head waitress looked more dressed to tend to the garden rather than serve at the restaurant and another member of staff had his shorts and football T-shirt on, with an apron attached to the front. Basic food hygiene booklets will tell you that a work uniform should be worn in the food industry, as per hygiene regulations (especially during covid). We had literally just sat down when asked for drinks. Asked for a few minutes and was returned to ten minutes later. My husband specified a small glass and I a pint and yet we were served and charged as such for two pints of drink. Tables need to be cleaned appropriately. You could feel the stickiness, not pleasant. Regarding the food, it was very nice. The portion sizes were generous enough and cooked really well. This hotel has some decent chefs. Although if you can’t give what is on your menu, tell your customers this. The menu stated cauliflower and broccoli cheese, yet we received only cauliflower which had some melted cheese put on top of it… Shame because the rest of the main was gorgeous. Desserts were sorely a let down. They work the menu out at fixed costs. One course so and so, two courses £5 extra added on, three courses another £5 added on. So to receive a dessert priced at around £5 which I suspect to be from bookers finest frozen section was a bit of a letdown after the main. We only ordered desserts as the tasty main had suggested a promising dessert also. We were told there would be a slight wait, (15 minutes turned out to be) which is fine as they told us. The ice cream and pudding duo was a poorly matched one and it just wasn’t very nice. Sticky toffee should be that, sticky and moist. This was a square of crumbling sponge. My husband has a serious sweet tooth and was disappointed. All in all the Riverside is well worth a visit if you fancy a Sunday roast, and no more expectations than that. At the prices they charge, and the atmosphere they claim to hold from the website, I would certainly be at the minimum expecting staff to be dressed to match. The general feeling we got from the staff is that they wouldn’t much be bothered by feedback in person, hence the review that will hopefully be seen by upper management. We were not going to quibble a price difference between a small/pint drink but it is the principle. These little details are what can make or break a customers experience.

Visited twice in recent weeks. Nice to see restaurant open and busy again. Coved rule followed. First visit arrived booking could not be found, later found booked for the following week. Seated quickly by the friendly staff. Food order taken both lightly battered fish and chips with delicious home made tartare and mushy peas. Nice deserts to follow. Second visit with family one meat platter to share which was very good mixture of meat choices. A dressed crab with chips again good presentation and tasty. A fish platter again good mixture of fish items one problem was that most of the mussels not cooked correctly as not open had to be left. Should not have been sent out. A free coffee given in compensation but goes not replace the items missing in the meal. Staff again wonderful.

Chose to eat here for one night as staying in the hotel. The menu is extensive, the food is freshly prepared , generous portions just honest food and 25% off the evening we ate there so good value, but nothing special.

Recently stayed at the Riverside and had all our meals there. Good locally sourced food at reasonable prices. You will not go hungry

This is the second time Ive stayed at the hotel, and can't fault it really.The lady on reception was great and very welcoming.We didnt eat in the restaurant as it was closed due to Covid, which was a shame but can't be helped.The breakfast on our first day was great, but the second day proved to be disappointing as there wasnt much.

This review is set over two visits. We have been here several times and the service and food has been very good. The first good visit was at lunch time and the food was was very good, tasty and well presented. The service was friendly and efficient. The second was very poor as over two visit gave a three. This an evening meal for four. The restaurant was very very busy. We were seated quickly drinks order and starters taken. The drinks slow to arrive but not too long, the starters however took over an hour for a soup and a chicken pasta. The soup was a small bowl of very thick soup. The chicken pasta very cold and only a small amount of sour dough bread. Another long wait for the mains. The two roast beef dinners the beef was tough and chewy so much so over half was taken home for the dog. The pork medallions and crushed new potatoes were just OK poor presentation. The bright spot was the vegetable lasagna with salad. We were offered free drink which we excepted but as at the end of the meal we drunk it quickly, paid and left who knows how long a desert would take. It is a shame the staff running around trying to keep the service going and to smile. I hope the next visit will be back to the normal, great service and tasty food.

Went for a drink but ended up have a lovely rib-eye steak cooked to perfection, a nice choice of drinks and wines

Visited twice under Covid19 rules. On entrance temperatures taken and seated inside where tables well spaced also tables on the lawn. We sat inside both times. The menu is for the week and disposal after use. The food every time was well presented and all were very tasty and fresh. Food had for lunch were pan fried cod fillet, brown shrimp, new potatoes and vegetables. Desert of vanilla cheesecake with blueberry compote. You could not fault the service and surroundings. The dinner again very good gammon steak and individual steak and ale pie chips and peas. Very hot inside as no air conditioning on guess as the door open to save keep touching them. The only down side was a second drink requested mid meal but never arrived. Apart form that service satisfactory. Pictures attached. This place worth the visit for the food.

You cant beat it, you can get 3 course for £23.95 on a Sunday and the staff are great so are the bar staff friendly and very welcoming see you all soon.

Returned to Riverside Hotel with friends for a light lunch. Two of us had the beetroot wraps filled with cheese and tomato, really tasty and lighter than sandwich. One had the flat bread sandwich which was full of beef, very good value for money. As always the staff very friendly and efficient.

I visited the Riverside House Restaurant before Christmas as part of a Christmas party night. I paid £40 for a three course meal and although I wasn't expecting perfection I was expecting to be given edible and decent food. My main course of Turkey was absolutely disgusting and very chewy. Firstly it was a strange brown colour and when I pulled the turkey apart it was extremely fatty. My companions also had similar problems and were also unimpressed with their turkey. We were also given two small bowls of vegetables to share between a table of 10. I ended up with two small parsnips, one carrot and two sprouts. Additionally, it was advertised as a trio of turkey - what arrived was two pieces of turkey and one piece of gammon. Due to a food intolerance I am unable to eat meats such as gammon so was therefore unimpressed that this was not mentioned on the menu.Our desserts were also still frozen when they arrived at the table, most of my party were unable to eat their cheesecakes due to this. When I said very politely to one of the serving girls about my meat she got the manager. The manager came over and asked what was wrong with my meal, I told him and then he told me that I should've informed someone before and was extremely rude before storming off when one of my colleagues told him to stop being rude. I would never normally write a review such as this but I was disgusted with my meal and with the service which I received. I will not be visiting the restaurant again and I would advise others to take their service elsewhere.

Food and survive are good. Toilet is very clean. We love riverside hotel and huge garden. It make us feel comfortable and relaxing.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere. We went for lunch with friends. The menu had something for e erroneous and was very comprehensive. Definitely recommend this place and will go back again. The bill was so reasonable and the service was excellent.

Fabulous hotel. Lovely grounds. Beautiful surroundings for a wedding venue. PsJust be careful not to fall into the pond. As not cordoned of by a gate. Top covered with green algae, looks like grass. My niece had to be quickly pulled back

The food is poor quality and the prices are high. It is my local but honestly I’d rather pay more and get a taxi than return here. Prices are high and quality is bad! Order a pink gin and slimline tonic and really you’ll be lucky if you get a regular gin and tonic. Served a few gin and lemonades, not a disaster mistakes happen. We can get over this. We decided to order food, seafood sharing platter for two or more (as it states on the menu) and the steak sandwich. The seafood platter is not a sharing option. You’ll receive 4 prawns, 3 scallops and a fillet of fish from your local Sainsbury’s frozen section ( I add the fish was described as goujons on the menu, not 1 frozen piece of fillet on a platter for 2) The steak sandwich was over cooked and surrounded by bread which was so soggy it resembled clingfilm looking after your food until lunch time on a hot day. Overall you don’t get what you order and you certainly do not get what you pay for.

I know that most people aren't fans of liver, but if you like it I can't suggest a better place. I often try it at restaurants when it is on the menu, but have never found any place that cooks it well until now. It was so tender and just melted in my mouth. I would order it again without a second thought. Just wish I lived closer to be able to enjoy it again.

Food was nice, especially the starters but service was a little slow to start with.We both had starters and a main. Both starters were really nice, but my main (curry) was a little average, like you'd get at a Harvester.Decent selection of beer (not just lager)

The menu reads real quiet exciting, however the result was VERY disappointing. The chicken and black pudding terrine lacked flavour and was very waxy. As for the crab claws... ☹️. I still don’t understand how any chef in the world would EVER serve Iceland reconstituted muck. The next morning they wanted out ASAP . However, the breakfasts here were pretty good ‍♂️

Stayed here for 5 days whilst having building work done. Everything was excellent. Staff, room, restaurant would take a lot of beating. They appear to treat everybody with the same respect and can not do enough for you.

Menu not big. Sandwiches great value good assortment hot or cold. You get a big plate of food coleslaw and crisps. Good atmosphere. Drinks a bit pricey. Service good staff friendly. Nice gardens in good weather.

The riverside house hotel is in a great location and the stuff can't do enough for you, family friendly and food is a great price. We have been for Sunday lunch and evening meals and always get a great welcome, see you all soon.

We make an annual trip to a family grave near Mildenhall, and usually have lunch somewhere nearby. This was the first time we had tried the Riverside and we were very impressed. The food was very good - chicken caesar salad, an imaginative vegan Niçoise salad and a portion of chunky chips to share.

I was booked in for a week on buisness. Very nice surroundings, staff very friendly. Good bar with some great beers. Unfortunately, that's where my review goes downhill. My room, on the top floor, up a very steep staircase, was, while large, very cold even with the ridiculous blow air heating on! Small TV that didn't work (yes I tried the main on-off switch!)

Sunday menu is average, food was served cold and was told by manager because we came the end of the day and that things was sold out on the menu - normally they will make effort in substituting, however as it’s not worth it - we need to pick what there is. Waldorf salad was served with gammon not chicken - when queried I was told it was chicken as that’s what his chef says! Beef was chewy and food was cold. Don’t try and complain as he tell you how the food should taste not the way you tasted it. Staff was excellent and friendly - but food not so good!! Better places around the area!!

Have only eaten there once and was not disappointed. Service and food it top class. Beautiful location, especially in summer.

i was pleasantly surprised by the level of culinary offering at this small little hotel/B&B.; The food choices were very creative, the menu was well rounded, and the preparation had no complaints from me. I enjoyed my dinner AND my breakfast very much. Would stay there and eat there again in a heart beat.

we had a sunday roast.one of the best we have had.restaurant was set out very nicely.the gardens and lawn down to the river lark was very nice to sit and chat over a beer.go and enjoy.

Three of us had a roast here last Sunday and I can honestly say it was the best roast I’ve ever had! Very generous portions and everything was delicious! We will definitely be back tomorrow, I just hope it’s consistent! Compliments to the chef!!

as one of my relatives once owned this pub, we thought we would stop for lunch. The gardens are beautiful, the restaurant light and airy. As it was a stunning summer day, we chose to sit outside on the undercover deck

We have never been to this Hotel in Mildenhall before but were meeting up with friends from America who were staying in the area, looked on trip advisor for recommendations and found The Riverside House Hotel and booked a table in their restaurant by phone. Welcome was very friendly from the Receptionist as we walked in and another from the lady working behind the bar who served us drinks. Very nice hotel inside with beautiful gardens outside and a nice friendly atmosphere. We were shown to our table when friends arrived and we all ordered our food from a very helpful waiter. The food was very good (so good we had dessert) and coffee. So pleased that we picked this Hotel and could not fault anything. Staff were great!

Family evening meal and all struggled to clear their plates. The food was quite good, certainly plenty of it. I had the roast pork dinner and it was what you would expect and not a bad price to pay. The dining room is spacious and the decor tasteful. Plenty of seating outside too. Service was good too. Have eaten here twice in the last month. Nice place to linger afterwards.

It is a short walk to the Riverside - they have all been on hot days - but there is always a shady spot to sit.

The place wasn't that busy but we were clearly suffering from the aftermath of the 'first sitting'. Staff were running around and trying to clear up as well as deal with the new diners. This resulted in an unacceptable wait,The drinks order seemed to have been completely forgotten and I had to wander off and find someone to sort it out. Then came the worst part - the food arrived barely warm on cold plates (roast meals). It was dire.

We booked the Riverside for a very special family celebration several weeks before going. On arriving we were told they were very busy so we would have to bare with them which we were happy to do. However we waited for an hour just to get our starter. We didn't complain as we could see they were very busy. My daughter asked if my baby grandson could have his meal with our starters as he had been waiting so long and was told no we're too busy!So he didn't get his bowl of pasta till we got main course which was about 2 hours after we arrived. There was another long wait between courses. Three of us couldn't eat the food as it was dry and not at all as described on the menu. Two meals came back burnt actually black on the top and the manager said we couldn't say it was inedible just because if was burnt. The manager was not sorry and very rude. We're not a complaining family, in fact I can honestly say I've never written a bad review for anywhere before. The waiters and waitress's worked very hard and I felt sorry for them. The problem was they should not have let us book a table in the first place if they knew they would be too busy to serve us properly or cook decent meals.It ruined my Mum and Dads 65th wedding anniversary meal. We left at 9.15 having booked the table for 6.30 . Having had no deserts and three of us no main meal!

First impressions of the Riverside were that we were in for a treat! Nice setting, well decorated and a delicious sounding menu! The prices were high end but we didn’t mind as it was for a very special occasion. All I can say is that it was downhill from there! After a long wait for starters, everyone was underwhelmed. I commented that I hoped it wasn’t a sign of things to come. Unfortunately I was right! After another long delay the mains arrived. The ingredients were actually ok but the meal was clearly cooked by someone who had no idea! How you over cook a duck breast whilst keeping the skin soggy is beyond me! Was it boiled, microwaved?! The young waiting staff were actually nice and I felt sorry that they bore the brunt, particularly as they would have missed out on a tip. The most disappointing thing was the way it was handled by the manager Gerrard! He was unapologetic, defensive and arrogant. He argued that my wife’s meal was “edible” which was acceptable in his book! If you fancy an overpriced, slow, tasteless yet ‘edible’ meal then take a trip to The riverside!

When we first arrived we were told there will be a Long wait, this amounted to hour and half. We asked if they could serve our 18month baby’s food any quicker, but we were told they could not do this and will have to wait - it was cheesy pasta!! By the time food arrived he was too tired to eat it.

The restaurant is part of the Riverside Hotel & looks out across lawns leading to a river, with a riverside walk into town as an option.

Firstly, check if there is a large party booked, if so don’t go, they cannot cope. Everyone was waiting for food even the guests in the event. Admittedly the waitress said the main course would be delayed due to the pressure in the kitchen, which was fine but they were struggling. The starter was ok but little things, they had pre buttered the bread, a bit old fashioned, especially as one of our party of 4 is very particular and needs to see what is actually going on to the bread. The smoked duck was tasty though. The main course, when it finally arrived was hot and the lamb and beef was tender. The Yorkshire’s were dry, they had been kept warm for a long time. The veg was good though with lots of choice. The desserts were a dessaster. The sticky toffee had either been microwaved too much or over cooked to the extent that we couldn’t cut into it. The crumble tasted as though the crumble had been made with rancid butter. The coffee was good. Parking was difficult due to the big event I think, so get there early. The staff were very polite and helpful even though they were rushed off their feet. Would I go again? No

My dinner was good. I had a pulled pork sandwich. My friend had the Sunday roast. It looked great. The best part of the meal were the desserts. The service was slow and not very responsive.

Came here for our Christmas party, could not fault it! Staff where absolutely fantastic, food came out delicious, hot and plenty of it.. By this time we had already been to a few Christmas parties but this one with food and atmosphere beat the others hands down! Well done to all the staff and managers for a fab night. We will most definitely be booking next year.

Great setting in Mildenhall good service great food in a lovely environment everybody enjoyed the atmosphere and quality of food .

The restaurant looked nice but the staff is very unwelcoming, pushy, impatient, and spoke with a rude tone. The food was not very expensive but you get what you pay for. All in all would not recommend and will not return.

Pop in for a light lunch to catch up with a friend, thoroughly enjoyable, good atmosphere, very friendly staff and of course excellent food, would definately return and recommend

Wanted somewhere pleasant for a light meal; discovered "Gentlemen's" and "Ladies" Afternoon Teas ... indulged in one of each plus a meal; all delicious, tasty, excellent value and the gardens were lovely! Very friendly staff; leisurely atmosphere. Decided to book a stay later in the year; checked "our" room ...had a nosey in the Bridal Suite = gorgeous!! looking forward very much to returning!!

The best restaurant I have tried in the area. It has an ambitious and extensive menu. It only has 3 faults: the better wines are not available by the glass; the chips are really poor; the salt and pepper pots make me uncomfortable (not sure why?)

Hemos estado aquí un par de veces este año, una vez para una boda donde nos quedamos satisfechos con la comida y dos veces para reunirse las familias ya está en el medio para la gente.

Después de la reserva en línea con otro hotel nos quedamos muy decepcionados cuando intentamos entrar por el que inmediatamente pensamos que no, así que probamos el Río esperanza tendrían una habitación andc afortunadamente, y toda la experiencia fue encantadora! !

This is my parents favourite place to go so have done a few vouchers for meals here and we have had large birthday gatherings here too in the past when everything was spot on but last Sunday 21st May it was very disappointing , starters were meagre, mains beef over done and brocolli and cauliflower not cooked and rock hard, they said it could be changed but the rest of the meal would be cold by then, desserts were ok sticky toffee not warm, only good was my cheese board, waitress was pleasent, and when they gave us very weak coffee she did replace it , please don't let your standards slip as it would be such a shame

Took some friends to the Riverside for the set Sunday Lunch menu and wow we were not dissapointed. A superb meal and great ambience. Looking to go again soon, couldn't do all 3 courses mind , plenty to eat.

Nice accommodation although we would have preferred a bigger bed. In our room the TV was right at the end of the room and being a long room we couldn't watch it in bed which was a shame. Tv needs repositioning. Other than that a lovely room with plenty of hanging space. Nice and clean throughout. Staff are polite and professional. Good bar and very nice restaurant where you can have a nice evening meal. Also take breakfast in this room. Good choice of food even for those of us who need gluten free. No gluten free cereals so take your own if that's what you prefer. Hotels always seem to miss this little option. Shame.Would we stay here again, definitely. If the weather is nice there is a lovely garden with some seating. This hotel is used for weddings quiet often, an excellent venue for such a celebration.Also a nice place for single business users.

Eleven of us dined at the Riverside Hotel in Mildenhall to celebrate a 70th birthday. Catering for three generations can be difficult but the choices available on the menu catered for all. Each course was perfectly cooked, prepared and presented. I had the Lank Kofte which was excellent, looking at all the other starters and comments that were made were equally as good, The pork loin was my choice for the main which again was in terms of execution of cooking was again 100% to my liking, again the comments from my party confirmed the same opinion, many chose the Beef or the Salmon. The vegetables were grear, cooked well leaving them firm and tasty, all meals were hot, served together but not rushed.I rarely have a desert but opted for the cheese board, this was again perfect, four cheeses and a variety of biscuits and fruits to compliment.The whole experience from booking to paying was a pleasure, a great place to eat and not feel pressured, the staff were in general excellent, the price was very reasonable. Well done go all.We were lucky with the weather so were able to enjoy coffee after our meal in the gardens, just another little something to add to our day.

Good food and friendly staff. Nice setting, especially in the summer. Good menu with plenty of choices and service was efficient. Been visiting here for many years and will certainly return

Just back from Sunday lunch with the family.. We had a child with us so we changed a few things that were set on the menu, nothing was to much trouble, food was lovely and so were the staff.. looking forward to our return. Thank you

We tried the restaurant for the first time with some friends as we love to go during the summer to the garden and have some drinks there. I'm really sorry but we have a terrible meal there. We were four people and most of the dishes we ordered were not cooked right. The pasta was served in directly from the oven wrapped in paper. Obviously the bottom of the paper was dripping of sauce and I found this pretty disgusting as the paper was wet due to the sauce. Is the first time I see serving pasta in that way. Moreover the dish was bland and needed a lot seasoning, salt, pepper.... the beef was extremely overdone and did not taste very good and my partner could not eat it all. Our friends shared a platter for starter that was ok but the also mentioned they were really disappointed with the main courses. In general we all agreed that the food was completely under seasoned and the presentation not up to the standard and price of the hotel. We want to think that they had a bad day or they might had an apprentice as chef that night as we went on Tuesday night before Christmas and the restaurant was completely empty. The service was lovely and attentive but unfortunately I cannot be more positive. As we live locally we might give another chance in another ocassion

6 of us attended the River House for a Saturday Evening meal to celebrate my birthday.Very good food at reasonable prices, very good service from all staff.Very good choice on the menu, something to suit anyone, one of our party is very gluten intolerant, he was well catered for.The first time any of our party had visited for an evening meal we were all very impressed.

Visited recently and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the lunch buffet for a special occasion. Very fresh, displayed with aplomb and plenty of it.The staff could not have been more helpfulThe ambiance is excellent now that plant dividers break up the rather large function roomThe best: was the quality and variety. Least: - hard to say. I'm sure there was a variety of breads as I absolutely do not eat white bread. I attended a buffet and my only comment would be that it would have been helpful if the various dishes/fillings could have been labeled in some way. I and others didn't want to poke, but we were not sure exactly what they contained.

A superb roast turkey beef and lamb sampled all excellent. Most like home cooked ever tasted. Staff very attentive. All the right questions asked but not fussy. Can't recommend highly enough. Didn't sample desserts too full

We absolutely loved this place. Very charming and accommodating. We went for afternoon tea and could have stayed all day. The food was amazing and the presentation was just the best. This was our first trip to this area and this place was not to be missed. I would love to visit again next year. Great food and the folks were very kind.

A great hotel and wedding venue. Staff were very good and looked after everything. Out room was large and had a good view. The well stocked bar was well used! Would recommend this place for wedding venue also as a great base to explore the area. Easy reach for Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds.

Went there with a friend for her birthday when I phoned and booked had to tell them if I wanted lunch or afternoon tea when I said afternoon tea I then had to tell them if I wanted standard or luxury I told them it was for a friend's birthday so I didn't know they then said they had to know because of the extra preparation so I told them standard. When we arrived the staff where nice but the hotel was cold and when the afternoon tea came the sandwiches seemed like they had been made some time and the bread felt it had dried out bit . The sandwiches them self had so much butter in you lost the taste of the sandwich. The cakes where OK. I was disappointed as this was for my friends birthday so I didn't say anything to the staff but I will not be going back

We just had a fabulous Sunday lunch here, This lovely hotel never disappoints us, the staff, decor, food are always lovely. And they serve sunday lunch all day, not just between 12 and 3pm.The food here is first class, as good as you get at home, the yorkshire puds are really light and fluffy and the cauliflower/broccoli cheese is to die for and they never serve skimpy portions.We highly reccommend this beautiful hotel to everyone.

Nice, relaxed meal, great service. Enjoyed the food. Seemed to be a night of trios, trio of burgers on brioche buns and a trio of chocolate for dessert, very nice and tasted amazing. Although a limited menu we will definitely be returning to try their beef teriyaki. Well worth a visit.

Had a wonderful afternoon tea at the hotel. This time we had the luxury tea which included home made sausage rolls mini quiches along with sandwiches, scones with cream and jam sponge, fruit cake and macaroons. Best to pay for the luxury tea lots better than the normal tea have had previously and was not too impressed with. Lovely settings and gardens to sit in.

I have eaten here on a number of occasions and the food it excellent. It is also very reasonably priced. I would definitely be visiting again and would highly recommend it.

What a lovely hotel to have a wedding , everything was spot on . Loveky friendly staff who couldnt do enough . The gardens at the back were lovely too .

Food was okay but overpriced, I think if you are charging a premium for something the food should match the expectation. I eaten here several times now, but never feel like I want to race back.

I've been here many times, often with a large group. If the weather permits, sitting in the back garden is quite picturesque. Great place for dinner, afternoon tea or just a few drinks.

The food came out virtually cold and just didn't taste very nice. I was left feeling disappointed and annoyed with myself that I chose this place. Having eaten here a few times before in 2015 I was surprised. I either had a different chef or they were having a bad day.

The Riverside has amazing tea, lunch, dinner and Sunday roast. Always great for a drink on a weekend afternoon also. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Always a good choice if you're looking for a place to go.

My friends and I had tea here yesterday. The cake was great, sandwiches were kind of plain and the tea was average. Overall, it was a nice afternoon!

Went here for a family birthday dinner, been a few times over the years and always come back when we are local. Lovely scallops to start, to be fair everyone's starters were interesting and tasty. The steaks were excellent , really well cooked and with great blue cheese sauce and sweet potato fries, the team can't do enough for you to make sure everything is right. They even found us some extra special wines from the cellar to help us celebrate. We'll be back for sure. Ps the rooms are excellent too, we had a lovely river view. I just like my food and wine.

It was pretty excited, I like every thing about it! Only reason I don't give them a straight 5, just because there's nothing perfect otherwise I would give them a grade 5!

I have only been here for the afternoon tea, and it's delicious. It fills you right up like a full meal, and is very decently priced. The interior of the dining rooms is lovely as well. I'll keep coming back.
