Excellent breakfast. The service was super quick, two breakfasts in the time it takes to get a coffee and hot chocolate. Refills great. Coffee is good.

It was an enjoyable experience, food came in decent time, Was worth coming in, friendly staff and decent beers on draught.

It's OK not my kind of place to eat

Visited on a date one September Saturday. We initially arrived at lunchtime and it was heaving with standard families and spoons heroes. So we left and returned around 3 and it had quietened down considerably. Plenty of space and a large garden area with standard stupid no smoking area OUTSIDE!Why? Standard spoons drink tariff and food. Toilets upstairs. Some reviews refer to rough wildlife in here but no worse than any other spoons I've visited. Maybe they're a bit shorter! Horse racing on the telly. Warm sunshine when we visited so air conditioning indoors felt quite chilly when going for a wee. But overall nothing wrong with this pub at all. I'm going to go again for sure.

We were with friends and their teenage daughters I bought a round of drinks and the two girls had Pepsi shortly after getting back to the table one of the staff lifted both the Pepsis and accused me of buying them alcohol. The way it was done was really disgusting and unprofessional. I had to find the person who had served me to tell him they were only Pepsi very embarrassing. Not going back

For a town where there’s dog walkers everywhere, got told to leave with my ‘mut’, would not recommend visiting if you want drinks or food, they’d rather have clientele that’s off their faces and not able to string a sentence together than someone with a dog for food. My dog is also a registered assistant dog and even then still didn’t care. They’ll happily have people bring their own cans of cheap ciders and sit out the front than an actual paying customer! Wasn’t until after they took my money for the drinks they told me he wasn’t allowed outside.

Typical weatherspoons, decent food at a decent price, usual sticky red carpets.

The Manager is completely rude and disrespectful and abusive. Last time i was there he used force to make me leave after paying out for a meal there. The manager also supports with bad behaviour from his staff and allows gossip to happen about guests there. Food is ridiculous, came out ever cold or under cooked, when complaining all they did was put it in the microwave to heat up for a minute then brings it back out. Worst service and experience I’ve had and would not recommend the place.

Very nice Wetherspoons in the centre of thown on the high street. Fairly standard by being spacious with the usual décor. Seating inside and out, with table service on the app or order from the bar. It's a spoons, you know the sketch. A little tighter than usual with the breakfast portion sizes.

It's a wetherspoons. Simple food, half decent beer. This one has too many older gamblers, horse people and slightly miserable older men. But aside from that it isn't too bad at all. Haha wierdly I always get on well here and end up talking about revolutions🤣🙄. Let's go

Food getting worse and worse. Never been great but at least good value, not any more, just dry, overcooked meat everytime now.

Breakfast in Newmarket at 8am was our choice of a start to the day on a Saturday morning. The pub was eerily deserted and we took a seat in and settled in. Wetherspoons have a way of making you feel comfortable by having every one of it's pub's interiors look exactly the same as every other. The Golden Lion is no different in that respect. Another dreadful carpet, a few booths, long bar, coffee machines and a ten mile hike to empty your bladder, or worse. A breakfast wrap and a sausage bap/roll/cob were ordered from the exceptionally friendly server who just seemed delighted to have human contact at that time in the morning. A short wait and the breakfast feast soon arrived. Hot, cooked, tasty, there were no complaints at all. Even the coffee was very nice indeed and merited a second cup. It was a pleasant enough visit and we will certainly return.

Like most, it gets busy in here, and i have struggled to get a table before, but generally you will get one. Order from the bar or table so very convenient, food is quickly served as i think they have a max time of 10 mins from order to table?. Food is good though, i love the chicken katsu and the fried breakfasts. Just cant go wrong with food and a pint and these prices.

No dogs allowed even in the garden, it’s 2024 people, noisy snotty nosed kids welcome, well behaved dogs not… Your loss, pop to the pub either up or down the road to be welcomed…

dan on the bar is my literal favourite he’s always such a good man n friendly n everytime i come here from liverpool my first thought is if my fav bartenders in. he deserves some more appreciation 🤍🤍 truly boosts the whole spoons experience xx

Came for dinner with wife and son on Saturday night. Food was tasty and the service was very prompt. The pub was busy and a good atmosphere!

We're regular customers at Wetherspoons as we love the breakfasts that are served. A pub kept tidy, with friendly hard-working staff, in a suitable location. The breakfasts are fantastic! The only concern that we have is to do with the coffee machine. Sometimes the coffee tastes lovely, whilst other times it can taste foul. We're not sure if this is due to the machine's cleaning cycle or another reason, but I feel this is something Wetherspoons should really look into. Even if after a cleaning cycle, the machine could have an additional water rinse. Or the quality of ingredients. Other than that, we really enjoy our visits.

It’s a good Weatherspoons! We stopped in for a quick chicken burger and a beer on a random Wednesday evening. Food was standard spoons grub, my only criticism was that the side of halloumi was burnt, but we still ate it! I had one of the cask ales which was well kept. The place was clean and tidy, staff were brilliant and the atmosphere was standard spoons.

Visited for breakfast midweek. Quick service for both drinks and food. Food wasn't very hot. Bathrooms clean and tidy but upstairs. Large restaurant area, and outside area.

Just ordered the chicken barriito salad. Had. No chicken! 🤢. . This my fav...its has happened twice now...what's so sad is this is my favourite dish!..... P. S...they bought the chicken out 20 min after I'd finished 🤣.

My partner & I decided to stop off for breakfast here, I ordered a large breakfast & he ordered American breakfast…totally disappointed…cheap sausages, bacon undercooked & only one piece of bacon, bean hard & no taste, mushroom looks like it was sat on the plate for a month, toast burnt, both meals came out cold, hot drinks cold & weak….waste of money & when I spoke to a member of staff she said sorry but nothing else. We shall not be coming back. I am actually sat at the table writing this review & still not one member of staff have come to speak to us….

Went in out of the rain, stood at the bar waiting to be served, female bar person stood the other end and said who's next? So we had to walk down to her! My husband asked for a pint of Stella and without asking if we wanted anything else she asked for the money, I said hang on my husband wants something too. He turned to look at what beers they had and she rolled her eyes poured my drink then went and got his, told us the price no please or thank you, very rude girl.

Burgers were fairly disappointing, would have happily spent a few pounds more for a more substantial option

Had a large mixed grill, wasn't massively impressed all the meats kinda tasted the same. However, for the price, it's probably worth it. Service was great and staff friendly. Would return but order something different.

Has I never write a review me and my husband some times has a ride to Newmarket we was going to have something to eat in the golden lion but both want to the toilets and they were absolutely filthy if the toilet not clean what else isn't

Breakfast was quite cheap as always being a Werherspoons, but sadly not happy with a rather tasteless sausage served. I can appreciate that in order to keep cost down cheaper alternatives may be used, but that was a real letdown in otherwise nice breakfast for its price. Bacon, hash brown, beans all very nice indeed. Otherwise a nice pub and I am sure that food is nice otherwise.

Very upset and angry.i entered the pub with my friend via the beer garden and took a table in the smoking area.my friend has a 4 month old toy poodle puppy.there were no signs to say dogs not allowed.when the bar staff btought our meals-on plates- she told us that we must leave immediately.we were not allowed to eat our food.she offered to give us takeaway cartons but could only find one,so we had to squash both meals in the one box.the lid couldnt close so we had to eat it as soon as possible before it got cold and spoily even more.i appreciate that the pub have the right to ban dogs but there should have been a sign up..there were children running kicking a ball in the garden weaving in and out of tables but that was acceptable,whereas a small puppy on a lead sat quietly under the table wasnt.i dont regard this as good service.my meal out with a friend was ruined

Nice, well cooked breakfast, especially the bacon and grilled tomatoes - just a little burnt. Baked beans were straight on the plate but the bean juice didn't run everywhere ruining everything else, but I'd prefer them in a separate bowl.

Lovely pub for a few cheap drinks. Haven't tried their food.

Took a while to clear tables but nice atmosphere. Only 10 chips came with the double burger, when I mentioned it to the waitress she just walked away.

I love whetherspoons chains some are better than others. Been going to this one for a year. Placed an order today waited 15mins order never materialised. Went to the bar staff ignored me called the staff several times before she acknowledged me, whilst other staff was putting glasses back and the other staff was doing a drink order. Even the woman who ingored me several times eventually responded to me when I ask where my food was. She tried to tell me I hadn’t placed an order when I provided her proof the order was placed. I ask to speak to manager, manager came over but never introduced theirself. Prior to coming over the same boy that ignored me, putting away the glasses approached me, I couldn’t make out what he had said but assumed he was asking how could he help, so I ask if he was the manager. He replied no pulling some weird facial expressions and walked off. Another person came over and never introduced theirselves so I ask whether they were manager. The person replied yes, so I explained what had happened which she didn’t seem to care. During conversation a male came over confirming my order. The manager walked off without during conversation, I ask the male who he was he said deputy manager. ( which been nice if he could of said who he was) The woman from the kitchen started shouting stating at me,I had placed an order and moved tables which wasn’t the case clearly other people do that shouldn’t assume everyone else does this. when I told her this wasn’t the case she didn’t apologise just let going on and on. Doing hand gestures. Nor did any of the staff( manager or deputy manager pull her up on her attitude or behaviour. Deputy manger just said you put the wrong table number down wrong which is an easy mistake. ( try telling your staff this) I walked off after this, member of staff ( the boy how got in a strop and the manager stood beside my table talking looking back at me. When they saw I saw them they moved clearly was talking about me. High turn over, short staff and rude staff. ( manager or supervisor don’t pull staff up when witnessing it) No common sense, or how to introduce theirselfs to customers Know nothing about customer service This pub is terrible will never ever come in her again Atmosphere is great in here but not due to staff due to other customers that make the atmosphere great

Clean and tidy Wetherspoons with low price beer and other drinks. Good atmosphere and a great place to meet up before going around the town. Food is fairly basic, good portions/quality and really low in price compared to the rest of the town.

Best fish & chips since the good old days of beef dripping & newspaper!

I like this pub for its value but what let's it down is the staff who can be very rude at times and standing at the bar waiting to be served. Always better to download the app and use that for ordering.
