Food was overpriced, didn’t seem the freshest and soup was lukewarm at best.

A lovely little cafe with a delicious menu. The staff are really helpful in organising gluten free meals, knowledgable on what can and can't be had. My autistic daughter who hates going out really enjoyed herself here and can't wait to go again.

We had a Christmas lunch delivered to day Sunday. It was absolutely fabulous not worth cooking yourself. One dinner amply served two of us. The beef was so tender, lots of veg and potatoes with a huge Yorkshire pudding all the trimmings and gravy. Very reasonably priced. Thanks very much to all the staff much appreciated, we will certainly be doing it again

Absolutely amazing little cafe, just a short distance from town, over the river. Googled best cafe in Berwick and this popped up. Amazing breakfast, probably the best I’ve had in a long time, and reasonably priced. Lovely friendly staff as well. I’d recommend this place to anyone visiting the area. Thanks Riverside Cafe.

Great find this little cafe, Always working away around the country and by far this is the best cafe we've been to, Really tasty food and quality ingredients that's the Half Stottie pictured, and I don't think I'd attempt the Full Stottie don't think I would manage it and I'm FAT!! Great staff and very welcoming.

Absolutely amazing Sunday roast. I definitely recommend it.

Nice people. Very nice breakfast indeed. Quality ingredients throughout, from the flavour of the tea right thought to the last mouthful of haggis. They've obviously got a cracking butcher. The kitchen staff played their part and treated all the produce with great respect. I gave it an excellent send-off.

We found this by accident when trying to go into Berwick over the old bridge so we stopped for a breakfast roll and coffee. Service was superb and friendly and the food was great and very reasonably priced. Parking nearby was free and it was easy access on foot to the harbour over the old bridge. Will definitely stop here again!!

We visited Berwick last week and had breakfast there twice , first we had the small yin and second time the medium yin , my hubby had veggie and it was enormous , 2 eggs 2 veggie sausages 2 hash browns beans mushroom tomato and a potato cake … that was some breakfast served up with coffee and toast , I had the normal with bacon and everything else, it was so tasty The staff are very welcoming and friendly . The only negatives I had was the condiment box could do with a clean up it was a bit grubby , as are the chairs where people have handled them , and the tea pots could do with a haul over , but having said that it would stop me from going back just an observation that’s all Riverside top marks 😀 A place to have a well cooked breakfast old fashion style with plenty of options .

Best cafe in Berwick!! Takeaway breakfast rolls are the best!

Super Saturday full english breakfast, only called "medium" but large and very filling. We particularly liked the sausages and black pudding. We didn't book and several tables were reserved for later in the morning but we were in & out in plenty of time. Very clean, very friendly, and we were kept entertained by the raft of sandwiches being carried out... someone somewhere would be having a great lunch. Only £18 total, would have been £25-£30 in Edinburgh, so very good value.

This is a lovely little eatery selling beautifully cooked food. We breakfasted there two days in a row. Generous portions, and lovely welcoming staff.

Waited 30 minutes for service...didn't happen although others were being served. Gave up and left. We seemed to be being ignored. Won't be back even though we have gone there for years

Stumbled upon this fabulous little cafe during a quick visit. I had my first 'stottie', which contained sausage, bacon, egg, hash brown, beans, potato scone and haggis in a type of bread. (It should have had black pudding too but I asked them to leave that out). It was absolutely delicious and I would definitely order it again. The coffee was pretty good too. Definitely about 3 or 4 league up from chain brands like Costa and Starbucks. Prices were very good too and the service was excellent. (One of the women who worked there drew me a map of how to get to the local cricket ground). I only wish I had more time available to really enjoy the ambience. Would definitely recommend anyone to go there.

Called in for my breakfast before heading to the nearby lifeboat day in Tweedmouth. Great breakfast, freshly cooked, with toast and coffee. Had the mid Yin which was plenty for me. Menu is not extensive but is supplemented by a specials board. The cafe itself is nicely decorated and clean. The staff very pleasant and well turned out.

My husband and I go to Riverside if we go to Berwick. Staff are friendly without being intrusive. Good homemade food and reasonably priced. Decor is clean and fresh. Well worth a visit but advise to book for lunch so your not disappointed.

Quite superb ! Really excellent home cooked food. Service with a smile, and readily picked up on an addition to something. So busy we had to sit on the pavement tables, which goes to show how good it is. Nearly everyone that went past exclaimed how good it looked, several people returning after seeing what we were eating and going in for their food.

Called in for breakfast, had the ‘big yin’ wow, was the biggest breakfast I’ve seen. 3 bacon, 3 sausages, 2 black pudding, 2 eggs, 2 haggis, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, hash brown & toast plus coffee. Certainly didn’t need to eat for rest of the day even after a hike around st Abbs nature reserve. Definitely recommend & staff friendly & polite.

My husband and I and Frank our dog, had breakfast here on Sunday it was excellent, cooked from fresh and great value for money the staff were great with Frank even though he got in the way a lot! He even enjoyed his sausages and all the attention he got from the friendly staff. We will be back after our beach walk this Sunday.

Probably the best English breakfast I've ever had. A very well executed hybrid mixture between Scottish/English, where every single ingredient was top quality, the value for money was an added plus. Also, cakes and coffees taste amazing too (if you have room)

Our first visit since new ownership - Oh dear, what a disappointment!! We ordered a takeaway sandwich, cake and tea and wished we hadn't bothered...the sandwiches were on very small but ridiculously thick and rather dry bread - the basic filling was lost! The cake was tasteless and so wet and heavy I was sure it wasn't cooked properly. The tea was the redeeming feature of our lunch and that was due to the fact that I was allowed to put my own milk in so it was to our taste. Whilst we awaited our order we also noted that there seems to be a shift in the normal bustling atmosphere in the cafe, the atmosphere must have left when the previous owners did. ..We have been regular customers at Riverside but we won't be back...😒

Down to earth cafe with really tasty food. Lentil soup was delicious, and the cakes are always very appetising.

Food was lovely and great value. Took some quiche home for tea. Staff really friendly and gave our dog a few bits of ham which she loved. Husband had ham salad sandwich, portion was big enough for 2. Very tasty.

I visited the Riverside cafe for breakfast with my husband, our 4 month old daughter and our young, bouncy and occasionally naughty Labrador. From walking in all the staff were super friendly and welcoming. My daughter has multiple allergies, as I am breastfeeding there’s a lot I can’t eat (milk,eggs,soya and wheat) so I rarely eat out! The staff at the Riverside were so helpful. They checked the ingredient’s of everything I said I would like, explained their cooking methods and so any risk of contamination. The breakfast was fab and it was so nice to be able to eat out. My husband throughly enjoyed his breakfast too! Our dog was made a fuss of and got a treat of her own! I was just sad I couldn’t sample any of the delicious looking cakes!

We stopped here on our journey to have a cuppa saw some delightful looking cakes couldn't resist. One lemon with icing and one chocolate brownie warm with cream.OMG we were in heaven fabulous food fabulous staff prices were great too. Pooch friendly she got treated aswell.

I went for a walk (recommended) from Berwick to Spittal and popped in for late breakfast. as soon as you open the door you know this is a community hub - loads of cross-table chatting and staff knowing customers' names. I had a thoroughly good scrambled egg on toast with a couple of local sausages on the side and a proper pot of tea (multiple servings). On way back I popped in again and bought a slice of their meat pie to takeaway. I ate it in the Barrels Ale House (see my other 5 star review) who let me chomp it with my pint. It was so full of meat it was like eating a full steak with some gravy. that confirmed that Riverside is a proper 5 Star.

We had a fabulous breakfast at the riverside cafe , the food was excellent and reasonably priced , it was complimented with a host of smiles and good service from all the staff , they even gave our doggie a treat of ham trimmings and a bowl of water . ,The Riverside cafe exudes an air of happiness , we left feeling in good spirits and extremely satisfied , we will definitely return next time we visit Berwick I would advise to book. As they get pretty full.

1st time here. Excellent service and value for money, very dog friendly. I had middle yin breakfast, my wife had Tuna and Red Onion Panini asked for some water for our dog which was happily supplied and also given wonderful treat.

We called in for a mid morning snack and just beat the rush! 10 minutes later there were no tables left. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was good. Cappuccino was just right and another cup was ordered. Our final bill was extremely reasonable. I can understand the popularity of this cafe!

Visited Durham many times and have only discovered this place. It seems very popular with queues most of the time. However, most people were seated very quickly. Full english, pancakes and bacon, breakfast wrap, yoghurt & fruit plus 3 coffees for £48, cant complain at that and all good size portions Definitely will be back

Fabulous little find, excellent simple tasty food including perfect homemade chips and a haggis and cheese panini that was a taste sensation! Went with our wee dog Max who was treated to a complementary treat, water and lots of head rubs and love. Excellent proper lush cafe and value for money!

Popped in for some breakfast while we were on a weekend break at Haggerston castle and we were not disappointed. Food was beautiful and fresh, the ladies serving were so friendly too. We just had to take one of the scones home too as they looked delicious!

Visiting from London and really enjoyed the breakfast here. Great value for money, as the portion sizes are good. I don't think anyone will be able to finish the large breakfast! Also highly recommend the scones which are freshly baked. Book a table if you're coming on the weekend as it gets busy. There is parking on the street outside free for 2 hours.

Always excellent home cooked food, from cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner, to yummy scones and cakes with a blackboard of daily specials. Staff are always friendly and welcoming whether you are a first-time customer or a regular visitor. Well-behaved dogs are welcome although the cafe is small and the tables are close together. Due to the popularity with locals booking in advance is recommended. Telephone orders and take-out orders also accommodated.

A bustling Street Cafe very popular with locals, the proprietor often having to ask people to wait as they are so full. The food was amazing and the cakes are to die for. Happy friendly staff even offering one customer a bowl of water for his Dog. If my Wife ever goes missing ill check here before I call the Police.

Found this place tucked away by the river. Unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't sit outside. Staff were lovely and friendly. I had the quiche (spinach and mushroom) and hubby had seafood chowder. Both delicious. In fact the quiche was the best I've ever tasted. Price very cheap so we left a hefty tip.

Arrived without a booking and were very lucky to get a table straightaway as we saw a number of people being turned away during the course of our visit because it was full. We had the scone of the day (lemon and blueberry) and one of a selection of tray bakes. Delicious and very reasonably priced!

Visited midweek in early June. The cafe was busy, but we were given a table for two. The menu comprised a selection of mainly British food with a fabulous selection of cakes and tray bakes for pudding. I had one of the specials: minced beef...

Portions are HUGE and reasonably priced and the cakes all look amazing (had to get as take away though as we were too full from haggis and cheese panini's. Kids cutlery provided, highchair available. Would happily go back next time we're in the area
