Tea Cake Max in Northumberland

We got our Christmas dinner from here, it was outstanding! Took all the Christmas cooking stress away and was delicious. We’ve since had takeaway Sunday dinner which was amazing value for money. Would recommend to everyone!

The most splendid food stop within miles. It’s just up from the Dene in Holywell if you are cycling and there is ample parking nearby and some outside. It is run with passion by the amazing Maxine for whom good quality and best value go hand in hand. From baking to the blues busting Sunday lunches. And one option with THREE different meats on. Always perfectly cooked and ready to enjoy at home. Pro tip: book your Sunday lunch prior to collecting.

Popped in for a coffee after walk at Holywell Dene.. what a lovely welcome Max gave us and the dogs so we sat in and had a lovely slice of home pie and Mrs had a lovely slice of cake... definitely up that way for a walk and coffee.

Maxine is a legend! All home cooking. From cup cakes to corn beef and potato pies... No mass production, no factory, just Maxine and a kitchen... Perfect.

Nice little cafe. We sat outside at the table. Coffee, Hot Chocolate and lovely chocolate crispy cake with marshmallows and peanut chocolates. Large slices as well (but containing zero calories according to the lovely owner).

Called in this morning for a bacon sandwich, half way mark on my dog walk round the Dene. Excellent bacon 🥓 sandwiches. First time, but will def be back. Sorry bout my barky dog 🐾

The newsagents is now a little cafe. I will be back. Reasonably priced and very friendly staff. The place was very clean and the food was lovely. I recommend this cafe. 😂

So pleased I had 1 too many and couldn't be bothered to cook a roast dinner. Delicious roast at a great price. Home made Yorkshires and crunchy crackling! Such a friendly woman and fantastic cook. I'll definitely be back. Can't wait to try the cakes.

If you aren’t to picky on the furniture being the same and everything being up to date you’ll really enjoy this cafe. It’s very welcoming in the sense that you feel at home and the quality of the food is second to none. I get a breakfast roll and the bacon is lovely and thick along with the rest of the sandwich being quality!

Sorry Max, but I didnt like the taste or temperature of your quiche - not ideal heated up in microwave. My son is easy to please but he wasnt impressed with his sausage sandwich. And I may be wrong but I think from your menu prices we were overcharged .

When entering this establishment I was expected to see furniture from Tk Maxx as I am a very big fan of this shop, however I was shocked and mortified to see what can only be described as the worlds worst chairs, (nervous breakdown pending) the chairs were just disgusting I felt like I was in a skip as there was so much clutter! this really affected my aura and my stability from only being in the shop for 10 seconds. As I walked up to the counter trying not to trip up on all of the bric-a-brac, I ask for a sausage sandwich as I was rather rough from a wild Saturday night on the wine, The short haired person behind the counter advised me that there would be no bacon or sausage today, and this is not what I wanted to hear on a Sunday morning. So instead I was offered a hot meat sandwich and with me being party vegan (apart from a Sunday) this shocked me, as I am meat free Monday - Saturday (free the piggies). So as I accepted the beef sandwich with stuffing and gravy I asked if the bread was shipped in from dimwambia (very beautiful country) she said no, so I decided to order the full carb bread. After having my eyeballs poked out after paying £4.50 for a sandwich when the bread looked like It was from the Londis, I sat down to wait for this "sandwich", the person brought the sandwich in a plastic box I was absolutely mortified as I only eat meals on wooden plates which I carve myself. After this traumatic experience I tucked in with a meat eaters mind and inhaled. I would rate the sandwich A strong 7. I will be returning for a lovely sandwich, love the person who works there and I would reccomend a vegan friendly menu.

We wanted a small old-fashioned afternoon tea in a homely setting following my father's funeral. Max was the proper Geordie hostess throughout; the tables were laid, the spread was fabulous with all the old time favourites - the biggest and best Victoria sponge ever, perfect corned beef pie, beautifully light lemon drizzle cake and scones. Nothing was too much trouble for her. This place and Max are a credit to the village!

Went for lunch here with my husband and it was brilliant. I had the quiche without pastry with salad and my husband had a sandwich and crisps. The food was lovely and atmosphere great. Lovely cafe (will be back for take away Sunday lunch).

We loved our first visit here today with our pair of cocker Spaniels. Lovely warm and friendly welcome for humans and treats for the dogs. Great homemade food at very reasonable prices. We particularly enjoyed the homemade gluten free coconut lime and elderflower cake. Will make this our regular halfway halt.

This place is clean,cozy and well run. Been a couple of times for breakfast and both times they were freshly cooked and delicious .Not much room inside but you can take away including a Sunday roast just take a plate along. Freshly made scones and pies and cakes. Give it a try well worth it

I'm generally a hard guy to please...but I appreciate quality....and TCM is top quality....no question. I'm so taken with their take away Sunday Roast I've had them 4 consecutive weeks. Fabulous food and unbeatable value. Top Guns!!

I class myself as a bit of a cafe expert, I'm a keen cyclist and spend lots of time in them... So what's my idea of the perfect cafe??? Small, very friendly, quality food, exceptional value... You'll get all this at the Fantastically named "Tea Cake Max"... I'm originally from the area but now live in Yorkshire and called in whilst on holiday visiting family... You get a lovely welcome from Maxine who by the way will never be rich charging the small tariffs she does for her delicious menu...I had a lovely cheese/mushroom flan followed by a massive slice of delicious chocolate cake with ice cream...nom nom... My dog Tillie (dogs welcome) had a sausage...I was even allowed to pick up the cafes guitar and sing a song.. Unfortunately I'm going to miss the famous great value Sunday lunches as I'm going home the day before... Wish I could move this cafe to Yorkshire so I could call in every day... Brilliant :

My Mam comes here quite a lot with our dog and she always talks about how great it is. Therefore I thought I should go and test it out too! I went here with my Mam and dog. It’s a nice little cosy, inviting place. There was a lovely woman called Lorraine who served us. Both of us had cheese burgers which were very nice. The prices are very reasonable and I’d like to come back to try the Sunday lunches! I’ve heard these are nice. They also serve cakes too which I feel like I missed out on today. You’ll be seeing me again! :)
