Bistro 23 in Northumberland

This is a great eating venue the food is excellent, well prepared and offers an excellent choice to suit all tastes. The welcome from arrival to leaving is something the whole serving team should be proud of themselves. We would have given a higher had we had more room on our table, this was rather small and cramped with limited space.

Reliably great service and food. We’ve visited Bistro23 many times on our annual visits to Alnmouth. We had sea bass on April 30th and slow-cooked Northumbrian beef on May 1st. Both excellent, as are the starters and desserts. Service is attentive and friendly. No service charge is included in the bill but unlike some places where it is, Bistro23’s staff are very deserving of a decent tip.

Restaurant located in Alnmouth main street, 50 minute drive from Newcastle and there is a train station 15 minute walk to the restaurant at Alnmouth with some direct trains from London. Street parking around Tuen outside and near restaurant. Country style decor. Friendly and efficient staff. All reasonably priced snacks and snacks on the cafe menu. Crab sandwiches, salads and seafood platters are very good. Great place for lunch.

A lovely warm welcome by the owner was followed by a delicious 3 course meal, beautifully presented and served. We both had sea trout which was cooked to perfection. A truly delightful evening.

We had a great evening with friends at Bistro 23. All the starter looked good but I personally had the fish platter which was excellent, then lamb shank for main which was equally good and I tried my wife's sea bass which was superb and then had the lemon creme brulee which was delicious. We had a bottle of the house champagne which was great, the Gavi white wine which was good and the red Montepulaciano red which was fab with the lamb. Will definitely be back.

Frist, time not the last.everithing....very good, I recommend it. You can appreciate the work, what's behind there, thanks to the staff and everyone in the kitchen.

Visiting here as it was recommended in a guide book as a good spot for lunch and it totally surpassed my expectations! The price was reasonable and offered a unique lunch option as I don’t eat meat or fish (I had the goats cheese salad) which was fresh crunchy and well balanced. Truly enjoyed this lunch spot! Lots of lovely cakes on show too but we didn’t try. Our welcome when you open the tiny door was a little odd as two younger waitresses almost looked panicked by our arrival, but there were plenty of tables and we were seated straight away. We were seen straight away too and gave our orders. The food also arrived swiftly and the staff were friendly. Overall lovely experience. The tables were located quite tightly together and we did overhear another diner complaining that their eggs were watery and cold but we didn’t choose that option. It was a nice spot we will definitely be back!!

Bistro 23 has a compact menu but there’s a great variety of superb food, including classic bistro favourites like belly pork, and ever changing “catch of the day” fish dishes. A particular highlight for us was the home made soup. The personal and attentive service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is cosy. We will be back.

We visited Bistro 23 early on a Saturday night in December. We were the first to arrive but other customers arrived in a steady flow resulting in a lovely atmosphere. We were greeted by the proprietor and our food and drinks arrived after a short wait. The food was delicious, we both had different starters, then we each had a different daily fish special. We both enjoyed our meals immensely This is an area with a great choice of places to eat and Bistro 23 should be near the top of anyone’s list. The only problem is getting a table as the restaurant is very popular We will definitely be back.

Very good food from a short sensible menus with generous portions. Friendly efficient staff give good service. This is high end restaurant food not pub grub and prices reflect that but it’s the best place to eat in the area.

We had a lovely family meal last night. The service and food was perfect. This was our first visit and we were very impressed.

Wonderful crab sandwich for lunch.

My wife and I visited this cafe today and found the food an service was of a really high standard. We had goats cheese salad and salmon scrambled egg. Cake and coffee. 1st class

We were on holiday and had been advised to book in advance. Good advice as it was booked up on the evening. Always a good sign. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and excellent service and friendly staff. Food was top notch. Also a very happy wife 🥰 Would highly recommend

The waitresses here are very friendly and very professional. It's so obvious that they have much to be proud of. Delicious food off an interesting and varied menu. We shared a seafood platter that was perfect - fresh with a great salad. Even the ginger beer was good!! We shall return one day.

Quite excellent! The young servers are friendly, civil, helpful and knowledgeable. We had a massive teacake between the 2 of us, and the most excellent crab sandwich and carrot cake. We can heartily recommend, and will be back.

We were lucky enough to get a table at short notice after they had a cancellation (it was fully booked otherwise). I am so glad we got the table because we had a fantastic meal. My wife had the slow cooked beef which was perfectly cooked and I had the catch of the day. Both dishes were delicious, and were really good value for money. I had a glass of house red, and it was well priced and a really good wine. The service was excellent, with a really friendly and genuine welcome. Overall, a great evening meal experience.

Seated quickly, pleasant, smiling staff. 3 of us had crab sandwiches, delicious, 1 of us had the seafood platter, again delicious. Two cakes, coffe and walnut and a caramel slice, both yummy! Enjoyed our lunch, would recommend.

Nice location on Alnmouth High Street. Helpful staff, very delicious and generous portions of food, particularly the fabulous cakes. Had panini and salad followed a slice of carrot cake and blueberry + coconut cake. But can’t sit inside if you have a dog, instead there is limited seating in front of the cafe.

Just eaten a lovely crab sandwich followed by raspberry and orange cake. Both absolutely delicious. Lovely friendly service, very efficient and welcoming. Would highly recommend. If staying longer we would definitely try the evening menu too.

Super friendly welcome, nice choice of brunch menu - not every day you can have a Craster kipper followed by homemade cakes - the perfect reward for a brisk walk on Alnmouth beach...

This has to be one of the best meals I have ever had. Save your money, don’t bother with the other pubs in the Village this has to be one of the best places to eat in the North East.

The finest crab sandwiches I’ve ever had and delicious home made soups and cakes. Reasonably price for the quality you get and always friendly and efficient service.

Enjoyed scones, cake and drinks in the day time but then this place transforms into a candle lit bistro in the evening with an interesting menu supplemented by seafood specials. Excellent food, wine and service. Tables are a bit tight but a lovely meal. Recommend booking well ahead as they had the full sign out every afternoon mid week in September.

Being a vegetarian is always slightly difficult but they catered for me too, we all said how great it was. What a find in a seaside village. Both times weather not great but we had good home cooked food.Salmon with scrambled egg on muffins.

We had bacon and grilled tomato ciabatta, one with cream cheese for lunch. Delicious! It came with a lovely salad too. Coffee was great too. Busy!

Absolute perfection from start to finish. The team are all individually personable, very professional and refreshingly accommodating. A great selection of high quality drinks (the local ales are the best!) and the food... my goodness. Delicious and beautifully presented. The soup was full of flavour, the lamb was perfectly cooked and the chocolate mousse was light and fluffy. Even the bread was a treat. Fantastic atmosphere in a beautifully presented restaurant. Quite happily one of my new favourite eateries in the UK. Compliments and gratitude to the whole team!

We have been for lunch on several occasions, but this was the first time for an evening meal. We hadn’t confirmed the table and the restaurant was full. The owners went above and beyond to get us a table within 30 minutes. We went for a drink at the pub next door and they came to get us when the table was ready. The food was exceptional and the service even better! This was our first night out child free and it was rescued thanks to Anna and Alistair! Cannot recommend enough.

This cosy bistro serves delicious cakes and sandwiches. Staff were lovely. It is always busy... the mark of a good place

First visit to this restaurant. Soups and puddings were all delicious, as was the special salmon main. I had the vegetarian sage and onion tart for a main, and thought (or maybe hoped) that the tart would be a bit bigger than it was. The tart included some cheese, which created a little bit of sauce, but the overall dish, partnered with honey and mustard roast veg, was a bit dry. Perhaps because I know the restaurant is highly thought of, and is in the higher price bracket for the area, I was a bit disappointed. The restaurant is small, very popular and the tables are very close together. There's a nice chatter to it, but you probably wouldn't want to be sat too close to someone with a loud voice!

A Very friendly relaxing place, food is done well, and the teapot's with their tea cosy are a lovely touch, their cakes are yummy and freshly made.

An excellent lunch , honey butternut squash and lentil soup with lovely fresh bread and proper butter. Cakes a must!

Well I ordered coffee, wasn't even hot, service was bad as I waited half an hour for food, (chicken pieces and bacon salad, seafood platter, all cold),which wouldn't have took long as people were being served with the same meal who were in after us.no sanitisation was provided, tables too close together, I actually heard the waitress say "have we ate yet",which would probably mean our order was not placed.

Lovely brunch. Home made tomato soup was delicious. Very friendly staff too.

Excellent spot for a snack. We had two scones with jam and cream, coffee and a hot (and it was hot) chocolate. Reasonable prices, helpful staff, and conveniently located. The evening menu also looks pretty good, unfortunately we are not in the area for long enough to sample this, but hopefully we will be back at some point.
