The River Inn in Renfrewshire

We enjoyed our last meal in the Carvery last Friday 24th November. It was of course up to Jason's usual standards, BUT, sadly we were advised by Angela that the Carvery was to close on Sunday 26th November. It was, as far as we could see, full, with a party of about 50 ladies celebrating, but apparently, too little too late. You will be missed!

Fabulous carvery with a choice of roast meats and main meals served from the carvery. They also had a delicious sweet trolley.....the profiteroles are amazing.....best carvery around. Be sure to book as always busy on a Sunday.

The River Inn is honestly the best carvery roast dinner I've had. The food is fresh and delicious, the staff are lovely and always very accommodating. We always tend to go on Sundays for roast dinners, although we have been during the week and the food is delicious. Highly recommend to everyone, you won't be disappointed ❤️

have been to this restaurant previously and found it to be very good. On this occasion I was very disappointed, Although the staff were very pleasant, helpful and professional the quality of the food was extremely poor. It was obviously frozen and I consider that the price of a small frozen fish and chips at a cost of £13.00 is excessive. The surroundings are excellent and very comfortable with a nice relaxed feeling. It was overpriced pub grub

Had a couple of pints upstairs in the sports bar which had great lagers available. Lovely place to watch sport or chill out. Then went downstairs for the Sunday carvery which wasn't cheap but it was worth every penny. You can have any meat you like from ham, turkey, rare beef or well done beef. All were delicious. Then help yourself to your veg including perfect roast potatoes, yorkies and lovely gravy. The desert for me was perfect. A good choice in the fridge but I helped myself to a big scoop of apple crumble from the buffet, with cream. Excellent. We all loved it and will definitely be back.

We hadn't booked a table but were given a booth for the two of us on Sunday afternoon. The staff were very attentive - we were concerned we might get forgotten about given we were seated at the last booth at the end of a dead end corridor, but we were well looked after. The carvery itself was very good quality and generous with what's included - you can choose three slices of any roast, plus any of the specials (I had venison cottage pie, and black pudding haggis stuffed chicken), as well as your veg sides, Yorkies, and gravy/sauces. Only very small gripe was the peas which were quite dry. Everything else was so delicious including the pâté for starter.

This is an excellent restaurant if you're looking for amazing ambience, delicious food and very reasonable prices. All our meals were of a very high standard and I greatly appreciated the vegan starters, mains and desserts!

Went for the Sunday Roast and left with a full happy belly. Good sized portions for the meat. Plenty unless you're a competitive eater. What was also nice was that you were allowed to go back for veg. So you didn't have to pile your plate or waste food. That's a good thing. It's a good few steps above Linwood farm. The desserts were nice too. Especially the apple crumble and custard. But I loved that at school dinners. Staff were great too. Couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. We'll be back for sure.

Excellent Carvery meal. The choice is really good and the quality is excellent, roast beef etc cooked to perfection and load on your plate. Lovely choices of vegetables and potatoes. The choice for the deserts was also really great. Staff very attentive.

Didn't have food(although other people were eating-big portions) Went for a few beers to watch the football the bar is upstairs Would certainly recommend this place

Visited River Inn for a family get together, The food was excellent,staff were attentative without being intrusive and my family enjoyed the attention of Jason as a personal touch.

Popped in for dinner ad-hoc. Ate in the main restaurant. Nice enough venue, quiet as midweek. Starter of Salt & Chili Chicken was uninspiring as breaded chicken goujons, sliced with an indeterminate sauce which didn't meet expectations, dish was neither salt or chili. Nachos were decent and well received although sour cream was off the menu that day. Steak was very good, but the Blaggis Supper is something which although piqued my interest from the menu, will never be ordered again. It is the illegitimate child of 2 good puddings and not a culinary masterpiece. Served with fries on a plate, on paper, with a boat of onion sauce, which added further confusion to the plating presentation.

First time here what a lovely place food excellant service and atmosphere lovely . Will come here again. 🥰

Hi always a lovely day until today ordered steak pie and found a hard twig like in my food I looked under the pastry and found a twig like branch with the meat food I left the food unable to consume and handed the dish back to the concerned rep I did refuse any more food from there kitchen however i did wait until the company I was in finished there meals which was to there satisfaction on paying for the meal a considerable sum they said it was a sprig of rosemary and said it had to be paid for and he was not authorised to adjust the bill and I need to pay I did so and now we will no longer use the lovely River Inn , S hame!!

Family lunch with a la carte menu. My first visit, though recommend by other members of the party. First impression of the restaurant as I walked in was of the 'Crossroads Motel'. Staff were attentive and friendly. Disappointed with both starter (Cullen Skink), which didn't appear to use smoked fish and main (Pulled pork and scallop linguine). Both dishes were bland and the linguine could definitely do without the pork, which just made it a sticky stodge and took away from well cooked scallops. Portion sizes were good and prices commensurate with what you'd 'expect' to be served from the menu.

Saturday night diner with 11 of us, very slow at coming to take our order. When the food came, one person's mac n cheese never came, so the server went to get one made, which took like 10 minutes, and when it did come it wasn't like the other 2 plates and had no garnish on it. Never once did any server come back to ask if we needed more drink or water, had to go to the bar and ask!. Food was good and decent size plates kids menu was good also. Don't know if I would rush to go back!

Had the cavalry,beef was a bit tough. Not worth the money.

We have always enjoyed The River Inn and tonight didn’t disappoint. I have hearing difficulties and required a table with a wall behind me or a booth and got a booth. We got a 2 course carvery, the starters were amazing particularly the chicken fillet with katsu curry. Carvery had stories, chorizo with black pudding which was new for us again really enjoyed trying this. Staff were lovely.

Birthday brunch on a Friday morning. Food was ace, service was great. Understandably it wasn't very busy so 4 stars for atmosphere. Definitely be returning.

In for breakfast and was disappointed. My full Scottish came with a fried egg that was bunt around the edges and square sausage that was only just cooked. The friendly service was efficient, so let down by the food. Price though inexpensive, not the cheapest. Lovely place let down by the food.

Great Sunday roasts! The food is tasty and the staff is friendly, service effective!

Vegan options were great to see. Vegan lasagne was very nice. Menu slightly out of date on a couple of things like drink selection.

used to be very good, but service is extremely poor by unintrested staff. shame as we used to really enjoy visiting here, but seems as if it has lost its way.

Normally the river Inn has great food and a great service. On the last visit we were a little un impressed with the fish and chips(fish was small, mostly batter and not cooked well) we regularly get take away fish from them and have been super impressed previously so thinking this was a one off. Great service and very easy to contact when booking and updating. Will be back as all food other than the fish was great

We were a group in on Thurs lunchtime. Food was very good and very generous portions. Two people served us - one was very good: efficient and pleasant, the younger person was a bit dour and made normal service look like hard work.

We had the carvery today and it was delicious. Lovely choice of meats and veg. The desserts are fabulous.

We went at lunchtime for a light meal and found the food to be very good, with generous portion size. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. It was a liitle quiet thus 4 star for atmosphere.

Had dinner here with a couple of mates. Lovely warm surroundings, friendly staff and plenty to choose from on the menu. Service is excellent as is the food. Would definitely recommend a visit.

With over 200 reviews and 200,000 readers mostly for restaurants and eateries, I'm not new to this, I live locally and had good reports about the Anise from about half a dozen individuals. We visited on Friday evening at 6pm as we prefer quieter periods as you tend to be served quicker etc It was quiet with one table occupied, we had spiced onions and poppadoms my wife opted for the onion bhaji which was a generous portion and very tasty, I had the fish pakora which was cooked to perfection and a generous 6 pieces. The wifes main was chicken shashlik with boiled rice, I opted for the south indian garlic chilli chicken with garlic naan both dishes were generous in portions and absolutely delicious, I very rarely award 10/10 for food but this is an exception. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food exquisitely fresh and superb My favourite food is Indian having visited multiple Indian restaurants the Anise is right up there with the very best, book it, you wont be disappointed, prices are reasonable given the portions are generous, we had two large glasses of wine and two pints of Kingfisher £48 for the food, £26 for the drinks, £5.80 a pint is expensive but very refreshing

Asked for more sauce for Balmoral chicken was charged £3 for portion We felt that the waitress wanted to be somewhere else poor didn't feel welcome.

The only thing that I would complain about is spouts could have done for 3/4 minutes longer but that’s personal taste steak pie was amazing not dry good size portion chips were great recommend a visit I would score 9/10

We visited The River Inn today for lunch. Thé menu had a great variation, and choice. The food was delicious and freshly cooked served piping hot. We shall definitely return.

Been coming here for years, but it's been a wee while since our last visit. Had the carvery, which is usually great. Starters were nice and food was plentiful. However, my husband did not enjoy his roast beef at all. As usual we both had the rare version. Maybe a sharper knife would have helped. It has never been the cheapest place, but the prices are now just that bit too high. Sad to say this experience has dropped it down a notch for us. Despite the price it was busy, with many (older) families out for Sunday dinner. Definitely recommend pre-booking your table. Young pleasant and cheerful waiting staff.

Best pub in Houston for pints , pool , sports and food . Curries upstairs are top notch . Recommend the chops to start and the butter chicken for main .

Celebrated my 40th birthday at the River Inn and was a fantastic night. Food was awesome and the menu that was put together was perfect. A massive thank you to Steven for orchestrating proceedings he was brilliant. A good few in the group had never been before and commented on how good it was and are talking about returning. Thank you so much again.

Food was awful and when I complained the waitress never even apologised or removed anything from the bill! Suffice to say, we won't be back

Decent food, good service. I was here for the sunday carvery. The desserts section didn't seem to have any plates next to it, only a few bowls next to the custard/crumble, which didn't seem appropriate if you wanted to have a slice of cake instead- there was nowhere to put it..at least not when I was there. Ended up just having some fruit, would've loved to have tried one of the cakes- disappointed about that. Other than that, the food itself tasted nice, good number of options too.

Visited on Thursday which by coincidence was the night a new menu was released. We had a lovely evening with some great food. The staff were professional and attentive and were interested to find out our thoughts on the new dishes. We thought the food was freshly cooked and great quality. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant for great food, excellent service and good prices. Will visit again soon.

Had a wonderful meal with great food and service added by Jason giving us a guided tour around the facilities. Will definately be back when we return for another break in Scotland.

Have prev been put off going here after a bad experience with the downstairs restaurant. Decided to try the upstairs Indian Restaurant and so glad we did. This is hands down the most delicious Indian we have ever tasted. Extremely reasonable priced , and beautiful restaurant and atmosphere. Also staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Its a MUST for Indian ! Well done to the chef and staff

Not as good as it once was, room for improvement. Gluten free choice on the menu is non existent, not acceptable in this day. We were also told there was no mashed potatoe! I'd recommend as a customer that the establishment decides which kind of environment they wish to present. If you're trying to present the business as a restaurant then why are dogs allowed into the place? Furthermore, a dog sitting at the dinner table and loudly barking is completely unacceptable. The food was decent enough but not to the standard it once was. Service was excellent and they staff pleasant. In my opinion unfortunately this simply isn't enough for a return visit anytime soon.

It's a shame as been to the river inn for years through all its reincarnations but really going downhill. Last straw is them charging the same for a newborn baby for breakfast with santa as everyone else. People have even tried leaving comments on Facebook...

1st time there, cracking place , staff warm and friendly and the food was top notch definitely be back.

Had dinner here on Friday with friends and was very dissapointed. The menu has changed from what it used to be, not sure if its a new chef, cost cutting or something else but the menu was like a bar menu, very basic. The portion sizes were good but not a great choice, i.e fish & chips, mac'n cheese, steak pie etc things you would make at home? Ended up trying the lasagna which looked and tasted good for about ten minutes until I ran out of meat and was left with a plate of.pasta with tomato and cheese?! There wasn't anything really different? Its a lovely restaurant and was always really busy but there was only three tables occupied? Makes me think the menu could be the reason? Such a shame but I really think they need to up their game a bit? I passed on the puddings too which at £7.50 each were a bit steep, again for nothing really exciting, not even a cheese board which they always used to offer. Sorry to say we won't be rushing back. I really hope the catering team rethink their menu as it will be really disappointing not to be able to go there at Xmas as it really was such a treat before? I have to add, the staff are lovely very attentive and pleasant. Sadly, I wouldn't recommend this place at the moment for food but they do have a great bar upstairs and an Indian restaurant too which is very good.

Nice bar, I had a brie sandwich and soup if the day. Staff were accommodating and the beer was fresh on tap.

The Family were there for one of our grandsons birthday . The meal was lovely and staff very attentive. Couldn't fault anything . Nice time had by all.

Today we had a family meal for 27 people booked at River Inn. It was a wonderful success with great food, great service and great value for money! We use River Inn a lot for family celebrations, and have never been disappointed! I would highly recommend this place. My very special thanks to the staff who attended to us today. You were all stars!

Not a good meal, soup to start no bloomer bread just half slice normal sliced loaf, pulled pork croquettes pork pulled right of croquet - non excistant! Gloopy Mac and cheese with no ciabatta just half end slice from normal loaf of bread will not be returning Cheap wine glass that cut my lip when drinking If I could give no stars I would.

All great except the vegetarian burger. Didn't have the heart to mention it at the time.

Reservation for 8 people to celebrate 75th birthday, 150422. Very disappointed at 10.10 we asked was it OK to order another drink, yes , then waitress went on about taxis, the establishment been black listed for taxis, so we booked ours 10 minutes later arrived, mentioned to taxi driver, said first he'd here. We won't be back or recommend, customer service from waitress zero , Maybe that's why apart from us only 6 people in

Quaint place would have been better if we was actually in the restaurant I felt like we was in the reception area right by the door starters were excellent meat for the Sunday lunch was excellent pity they didn't have lamb on plenty of choice of other things on the menu.I think personally £22.95 for 2 course is a bit over the top that's my views.

Not the best experience we’ve had here but we haven’t been since before lockdown. We were made to wait at reception while the staff member finished her paperwork which wasn’t a great start. The food was really nice especially the monkfish curry whereas the lemon...

First time here in a number of years. Cute outdoor beer garden area in the car park, sports bar looked busy and Anise Kitchen food was beautiful. Will stay longer next time!

Was here for dinner tonight. It was terrible. The carvery was cold and the table service generally slow. Soup came served in a cup and wasn't hot. Prawn starter had so much sauce on it you couldn't eat the salad .So disappointed .Won't be back. Expensive for what it was.

Dinner with friends here and it was a great night out. Meals were tasty and hot. Great menu with lots of gluten free options on request. Amazing service.
