After completing a 177-mile fundraising walk over 8 days along Offa’s Dyke for Headway North Staffordshire Brain Injury Charity, our group stopped at The Rising Sun in Woodcroft, Chepstow, for a well-deserved dinner. The experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the pub made us feel right at home. After such a long walk, the friendly staff went above and beyond to accommodate our group, making sure we were comfortable and settled. The pub’s atmosphere was warm, cozy, and full of character. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, unwind, and enjoy a great meal. There’s a real sense of community here, and it was a fitting end to our challenging but rewarding journey for such a meaningful cause. Thank you 🙌

We decided to visit for lunch after hearing all about the pub's journey to get to where they are . Not disappointed at all, lovely garden, pub, food and staff. We will definitely be returning as we are fairly local and will definitely recommend to friends

We visited last week and the pan fried sea bass with clam, sweetcorn and spring onion chowder, and crushed new potatoes was superb. A meal of this quality is not easy to find let alone reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and it was dog friendly as well.

AW so nice to see this pub up and running again , hated going past and seeing it closed . We had a pleasant lunch we thought very well priced and a good portion size . It was very clean and had a relaxed atmosphere , the staff were friendly and welcoming , . only one criticism would be do 2 smaller jacket spuds rather that one big one as a bit hard , however the salad and filling was lovely as were the chips . So glad the village had a pub again , my grandparents are buried in the local church yard so have a soft spot for Woodcroft ..Ps coffee was lush!

Travelling from Abergavenny, this was our second visit to the Rising Sun in two months. Again, the food was perfectly cooked and presented with excellent service from the bar staff. The Cajun flavoured chips and the Paninis were amazing and plentiful. The enclosed beer garden is a real bonus on a hot sunny day especially when you are with young children. A lovely little pub that seems to be doing very well. Will definitely visit again.

Fantastic food was had by all. Clean plates all round. Great atmosphere, was very welcoming. Went with friends and one dog. No problem bringing in the 4 legged Great Dane. In fact a little furry station is available for dogs to enjoy a treat of their own. A great asset to the community run by the community.

The Rising Sun is a community led pub. There is a warm atmosphere and welcome as you enter this charming pub. Dogs are very welcome but please keep them on their lead😊. They have a treat station for visiting dogs! The menu has a choice of light bites such as panninis along with vegetarian options or for the hungry traveller/local a selection of starters, mains and sweets. Two of us opted for the steak and night jar pie ( no birds were harmed! It's a local stout) served with chips, seasonal veg and lashings of gravy! The pie was wholesome and tasty, and a massive round of applause for the jugs of gravy! Proper home cooked food! Our friends opted for a brie and cranberry panninis with salad and onion rings, and a bacon brie and cranberry sandwich with cheesy chips. Both were crammed full with brie etc ( that's the sandwich/panninis not our friends!) Drinks wise we opted for a pint of night jar, along with a couple more local brews that I can't recall! They were all excellent! Our dog was made very welcome and happily had a few treats from the doggy corner. Oh and the place was very clean! Overall we had a lovely evening and excellent food. Long may you continue to keep serving your community and surrounding areas. Thank you.

One of the nicest pubs I’ve been to for a long time. The welcome was great and friendly and the logfire was a bonus. Very well decorated and extremely clean as were the toilets. Good selection of drinks as well as a good menu…But, the icing on the cake was I had the best burger I can ever remember having, it was absolutely delicious and very big. This was really good value for money and will be definately going again..Just for info this place has been bought by the locals and, I believe run by a committee. I cannot recommend this beauful establishment anymore, it deserves 10**********’s. And thankyou ladies for great service. Worth the trip from Weston super Mare.

Exceptional !! A great community owned pub which has a great atmosphere, home cooked food and very attentive friendly staff. We had a Sunday roast which was delicious. Real attention has been paid to getting the flavours right and sourcing quality local produce . Plus even though it was busy , which is a recommendation in its self , we were not kept waiting at all. Very impressive! Thank you .

The pub is great, the staff are lovely. My wife and I both had rump steak and it was a lovely piece of beef perfectly cooked. Without blowing smoke…. It was better than a famous restaurant in Covent Garden that rhymes with Divy. But seriously it is so heat warming to see a community hub / pub deliver such excellent service and wonderful food. We will be back

The food was amazing! (The fries!!!!!!) and the staff were amazing! Plus they absolutely love dogs! So we’re giving treats and cuddles to my little beagle! And absolute credit to the area!

Dont bother wasting your money.!! If you are not in a hurry, want to help yourself to condiments and ask for service, and get some dodgy food, go for it! Really disappointing and didn't even offer a refund!

Great tour of the mine. Very interesting and informative. The guide was really good at explaining and he is clearly very passionate about what he does.. You can visit the site for free and without booking, but if you want to go on the mine tour you need to book and pay online via the website. Just beware that the café closes much earlier than advertised and also that some of the information on the website is out of date, including the café menu.
