Found the Nags Head by accident, and so glad that we did. On the day we visited there was only the landlady working, but she was wonderful. A very happy lady and a real pleasure to talk to. We ordered six different meals (all different) and she prepared and served them all to us. They were delicious. If you get the chance look out for the Nags Head Inn and pop in. Thank you to Moyra and her team for fitting the 5 of us in at very short notice. The 2 roast meals were excellent value for money and arrived absolutely piping hot. Both the beef and pork were succulent and portion sizes were plentiful. Both the scampi and cod and chips were well cooked and beautiful crispy outside/ soft inside … just as we like them! The final ham sandwich plate was just as good as the rest. The dessert of bread and butter pudding with custard certainly silenced the table ….. very very delicious!! The garden is beautifully kept and even the sun shone for us so yes, I would recommend this place if in the area.

Slightly out of the way - wouldn’t have found it if not for ‘restaurants near me’ from Tripadvisor but very glad we did. Real, proper well cooked ‘Home pub food’ and huge servings with near instant service from a really friendly bunch of people - felt like a locals pub but we were made very welcome with our three dogs. And as for the bill - ‘Are you sure that’s enough?’ £30 for two courses for four people! Amazing Value! Only key thing - cash only! They did tell us when we called to book in.

We visit the Forest Of Dean every couple of years and visit the Nags Head each time. Their standards are still incredibly high and unbelievably modestly priced - four meals with drinks for well under £50. Most of the main meal choices are roast dinners (the beef was very well received) stacked with a wide range of vegetables. All desserts are homemade and top quality. We sat outside - there is a large lawned area at the front of the pub. Some tables have an umbrella. Take note - the pub operates on cash not cards. If you are in the area make sure you visit this pub - highly recommended.

Able to accommodate five of us (and a baby) at 10 minutes notice and made to feel very welcome on arrival. Delicious family Sunday lunch, which reminded my wife of Sunday lunch at her Grans; roast with loads of veg and unctuous gravy. Very prompt and friendly service - and we were all too full to manage any of the fabulous deserts on offer. Family friendly atmosphere, no frills - but doesn’t need any. Lovely to visit a “proper” pub, instead of a chain - with a simple, wholesome menu. In and out, with drinks, within an hour - and not rushed, with plenty of time to enjoy our meal and drinks, before getting on with the rest of our expeditions for the day.

We were in Yorkley on holiday last weekend and my uncle booked Sunday lunch at the Nags Head. As we were a large group, we had the whole upstairs room to ourselves. We all day on a long banqueting style table. The food and drinks were very reasonably priced. We ordered our choice of meat when booking the table. The food all arrived quickly and everyone was served promptly by the two waitresses. One of the best Sunday lunches I've had and everyone on the table enjoyed. The waitress read out the dessert menu after they had cleared all the plates away. There must have been around 20 different desserts on this menu and you could choose between cream, custard and ice cream to accompany them. Most of us ordered different desserts and the waitresses still managed to serve us all in what seemed a matter of minutes. Highly recommend this pub and we will be booking a table here again next year for another family celebration.

The Landlady was so nice to us 3 nights on the trot. She recognised us and looked after us. It's not a beautiful pub inside but what a welcoming place when you are tired after a long hike and you are a stranger in town. It was full of families and locals, all chatty and happy to make way for London types at the bar. I had a beef suet pie and chips which may have come from the freezer but was blooming tasty. Can't remember the last time I was even offered suet. My wife's fish and chips was less impressive but she put it away quickly enough. Big portions as well so make sure you have actually been for a walk or run. The Doombar was well cared for as was the cider. All the visitors seemed to know and like the bar staff. Kids seemed welcome. Really good country pub. Would go back in a heart beat especially after having been the to Royal Oak at Whitecroft....

Go here for Sunday lunch with the family on a regular basis. Very friendly staff and amazing home cooked dinners. Good value for money. The place could do with a bit of decorating and doing up. But don't let the decor put your off..

My wife and some friends decided to pre book a table, as we had heard from many people how good the food was. We were not disappointed, in fact the food was terrific. There was no waiting and the Sunday Roast came out piping hot, and to be honest we have never had such a choice of vegetables, which were put out on the table. I counted 10 in all.I must also commend the choices we had with regards to the sweets, it was a large list, and you could tell it was all home made.I would defiantly recommend the Nags Head and would award the owner, food and the staff 5 Star.

A really interesting tour of a small mine. Rich was really knowledgeable and informative. Our boys (4 and 7) were fascinated. The food at the cafe was also great!

My parents and I really enjoyed our Sunday roast. The roast beef was tender and they had a decent vegetarian option too. Really good value and the pub garden was sunny and warm.

This place doesn't look that good from the front, so we were sceptical upon entering. But I guess the phrase 'never judge a book..' is reality. Staff were very accommodating to us and friendly, happy
