White Hart Inn in Forest of Dean

Very pleasant situation near the bank of the River Severn. Very pleasant inside and kept excellently clean. I called in there with my brother who was recovering from a serious back operation and it was his first drink out since before the operation. I didn't eat there this time but food is normally very good. The staff were very efficient, friendly so a very great place to take all the family and your friends. We had a reunion of old friends, the atmosphere, service, food and drink was up to their usual high standard.

This is one of the best "pub food" venues that I know, we have often stopped here for a "pie n pint" The food is first class and great value, the service is excellent, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Awesome service, great food and a lovely pint of Hereford Pale Ale. Back for the first time since lockdown. Awesome visit as always, certainly didn't leave hungry, portions were full on.

Dog friendly, what a load of rubbish. We were approached bu a waitress and asked to remove our small dog from the bench who was sat quietly relaxing. To make things worse she then walked straight past another dog sat on a bench with a family next to our table. Menu was limited, service shameful, overall experience was terrible.

Wow. The service was impeccable. I am an american who found myself in Gloucester a few months ago for the cheese rolling competition and to say that the White Hart Inn was enjoyable would be quite an understatement! The food was exactly what I needed and I received the perfect service from my waitress, "Bobbye". I appreciate the service and the unbeatable food! Thanks a bunch!

Had a meal there today. Its a fabulous place and location, lovely atmosphere and staff. Unfortunately some of us in the party of six we wasn't overly impressed with the food. I had the beef lasagne - lovely meat and flavour but there was so much stoggy claggy pasta I couldn't eat. Enjoyed the side salad and garlic bread.2 others had steak dishes but were not over impressed with toughness of the meat and 1 other had a chicken and Halloume (that doesn't look spelt right!) Bun but was so much relish on it - most Was left. On a positive note 2 people in the party loved their dishes and deserts. We enjoyed our catch up but was disappointed with some the food.

Nice enough staff, but had to wait over 40mins for a rather bland/watery curry (i think the rice was too wet, which made it all watery) which wasn't cheap.

Every time I visit the food is perfect, the service is amazing too. I can not fault the place 👍🏻

A wonderful period pub located right on the Severn river with outside seating to enjoy the views. With friendly staff and plentiful delicious food and a great choice of drinks. What's not to like ? Lots of proactive staff with the excellent Sian as house manager. Above all, truly exceptional food

My husband and I both had severe diarrhoea soon after our meal on Saturday 21 September. He took over 5 days to recover as he actually finished his lamb rump whereas I left half my steak and ale pie and was ill for 2 days. Emailed through The Quality Inn response page to make them aware so they could clean up their kitchen and food preparation. They did not even have the curtesy to reply. What are they afraid of - responding is an admission of guilt? If they ignore us, we might go away? … Shame on you. Beware when visiting the White Hart Inn, Broadoak, Newnham.

Unfortunately, there's just not enough staff. Always completely chaotic and over run no matter when you arrive. Food is over priced and there's always a massive wait. Nice enough setting by the severn but there are much better places in the area. Would not recommend.

Had dinner and then lunch here in the last few days. Nice welcoming, comfortable place in top location with good, friendly staff, Cara is great 🙂 Perhaps consider an OAP menu with smaller dishes, or lift the maximum 12 years old rule on the kids' menu - my 82-year-old mother had to send loads of food back (see pic). Otherwise, really good.

Have driven by this place many times but’ never stopped for some reason. This time stopped for lunch and we were very pleased. The selection of food available was excellent and the quality was wonderful. The size of the portions were far bigger than you would normally expect. Overall really pleased and will certainly stop in future. We sat outside in the large terrace with lovely views over the Severn valley.

My partner and I visited towards the end of last year and I can honestly say it was the best mixed grill I’ve ever had! The food and drink served is delicious, we will definitely be going back when we’re next due a treat. Staff are friendly and good too. Nice views also.

‘OK’ Sunday lunch but the chicken tikka was awful; watery sauce, chewy chicken, uncooked vegetables. Staff were friendly, the river location is ‘OK’. Can’t recommend.

A roadside pub with great views over the river Severn and its huge tidal range here, 2 steak deal was awesome and came as requested. Great atmosphere with excellent beer Worth a visit!!

This is a little gem alongside the river with homemade pies and friendly staff who bring your drinks to the table. Not overpriced and dog friendly

The staff seem very muddled. I had to keep checking that they got the order right. Then they over charged me. Charging £2.50 for a pint of soda water with lime is way too much. I doubt l'll go back. Shame because l have been going there since the 90s.

Had the steak deal for two, it was so tough and sinuous, could only eat a small bit, felt very let down. Seems to be very hit and miss here. Also a lot of cutting corners which I guess is counterproductive to business really. Please do better you are not cheap.

Always our go-to place for good food and friendly atmosphere

Choose the two steak meal deal for £30 and after having three strikes and swearing never to go again gave it a go after friends had suggested everthing had changed. It hasn’t had not half way through I found a hair. Could not continue eating when waitress came over and asked how meal was and I explained about the hair she then took it to the chief. After a small wait she came back (the chief could not come to explain about the dark hair or apparently no hair as it was red not black ???) I cold have a pudding wavered or my drink. Well to be honest I didn’t really want anything else to eat as I had yet again been soo disappointed with my last experience at The White Heart

Me and my partner go here quite often as we love a good steak and 2 for £30 in a pretty good deal. Best steak ive had in a while. Definatly recomend

the food is fresh and well presented. i have eaten here many times and that has not altered. the only thing i will stay is its great if you have a very healthy appetite. the portions are massive. It would be great if they have pensioner portions.

Took a long time to bring out food. Asked a member of staff who went to check but didn't come back to tell us. Had to ask her again. They were obviously short staffed with what seemed like mainly inexperienced staff. The food that did eventually arrive was really good and hot.

Our first time visiting the White Hart Inn, Had an absolutely wonderful birthday Sunday lunch here! The vegetarian roast was delicious! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Highly recommend and we will certainly be back!

Went to white hart broadoak for 80th birthday there was a sign 45 min wait for food order taken fo 7 people food arrived only 6 mains apparently missed off 1order Went back to put it right then told there was non left, some of the food not up to standard, won't be returning

Very disappointed, my burger was salty and cheap looking. To be fair the pies that the others had were good. But the main thing was that we were expecting the 30% off afternoon deal only to be told afterwards that it no longer applies. I saw it advertised on their Facebook page it was from April but there was no end date mentioned, we had been last year and it applied so took it that it was ongoing.

Motorhome stop over on way back from Wales.good flat car park, paid £10 to stay overnight. Good food and drink at reasonable price.

I came here on a busy wednesday night with a few family members and freinds we didn’t book, which we thought would be an issue but we were seated within a couple minutes of us turning up. We were greeted by polite vibrant young staff and management. After we got seated we got asked for our drinks my older grandfather was thinking of having one of their locally famous Ales but didn’t have a moment too look and they offered him the options within seconds of him finishing his sentence! Their staff was constantly checking on our drinks and food throughout the meal. The menu is in the more pricey side for ‘pub grub’ but the portion sizes are too die for! they are massive. i heard them also greeting regulars with a big smile and a lot of banter with was nice too see. Our food when it came was outstanding, the steaks were beautiful and their famous XXL ‘whale’ fish was amazing. Will definitely recommend for anyone for any occasion!

This pub is close to where my mum lives & we often use it to sit with a drink by the river and watch the world go by. Made the mistake this week of deciding to have a meal. The food was dreadful. Rubberised fish in greasy solid batter and tasteless uninteresting lasagne etc. the price is high too for pub grub, but the portions are wastefully huge which is, I guess how they justify the pricing. My advice - stick to a drink and a packet of crisps. The only reason I’ve given 2* not 1* is because the young bar/waiting staff are really pleasant. Will definitely not be going back to eat there.

Fabulous food (huge portions) and a really lovely setting both inside and out. We had to ask to have our food order taken after we'd been there quite a while and ended up ordering drinks at the bar even though we booked a table. However, the staff were all lovely and friendly and it's evidently a very busy place on a summer day. The large fish and chips is not for the faint of heart.

Manager and Manageress was extremely rude ! Made you feel most unwelcome, no manners whatsoever ! If they wasn’t related they certainly should be as they are both as miserable as each other, Plenty of other pubs in the area …. But would not recommend this one..

Came here tonight for a light bite to be told by a blonde hair waitress that me and my son ordered pizza when we clearly stated pasta with tomato sauce, cheese and garlic bread. Then she argued the toss when she brought out pizza and chips....awful customer service, and a disappointed son!! P.s black slimy things on my salad??

I went on a lovely sunny day and the river views were stunning. Service was a little bit slow but the team was great at accommodating our needs because I went with someone in a wheelchair and who for health reasons couldn't eat a grown up meal because of the portion sizes and needed a small portion. The menu says children's options are strictly for under 12s. I explained that to the lovely lady who was taking orders, she checked with her manager and it was not a problem! While eating, they made sure everything was going well and made us feel welcome, we promised to be back. And we will, with more of us.

First time visiting this pub, we normally go to their sister pub The Cross and the food/service is always amazing so thought we would try it. Lovely location especially on a sunny day right by the river, plenty of parking. Unfortunately the Sunday Roast did not hit the spot and for the price it should have been almost perfect. We order the Nachos to share which took 45 minutes to arrive but when they did they were beautiful can’t fault them and the staff did apologise for the delay and removed them off the bill for us which was a lovely gesture, we all had a roast dinner which I must say how disappointed I was as I had really high hopes from their sister pub which is faultless, I had the pork, others had the turkey, the pork came with no crackling (fave) and was chewy and dry same as the turkey dry, you had to pay extra for a Yorkshire and cauliflower cheese which at there sister pub is included but I wish I never as the cauliflower tasted like water and probably was the worst I’ve eaten in all fairness, the yorkie, stuffing and gravy was nice, the veg was very hard and not at all seasoned, so just a big disappointment for the cost but we live and learn. We did have the peanut brownie dessert which was amazing. I would definitely come here again but not for the roast dinner.

Such a lovely pub by the river. Loads of tables inside and out (though not much shade on outside ones). Food was delicious and very generous portions - fish and chips had such fresh & meaty fish! Also had the scampi special and the steak and Stilton salad which were both delicious. Staff super friendly too.

Shared a double birthday with friends, 4xsteaks ordered all med rare,came to the table all cooked different.pototoes were green wife had one that was black inside Greeted by barman by shouting over the bar,have you booked, staff non attentive we all agreed we wouldn't be coming back. What a wonderful pub! Walked in hoping for a table and after some jiggling (a very busy sunday), we were found a lovely dog friendly table which suited us perfectly. The food was incredible and we would have licked the plates clean if we could. Great service from all the staff, very friendly, all smiling and professional. We live in Cheltenham but this is now our new favourite place to meet uo with our friends from Cinderford. Thank you for squeezing us.

One on the list of places to visit, a lovely traditional pub with nice atmosphere and quaint ornaments and signs on the walls. The service was good and we were seating and fed in reasonable times. Our food was delicious and great portion sizes. We obviously couldn't finish it all. My only small negative was the tables are standard pub sticky and could use a sand and varnish as they are very worn and detract from what is a nice place.

Booked a table for Sunday evening. We were told 7pm latest. That was fair enough after a very busy day for staff. Arrived 6.50pm and shown to our table. We were asked what we wanted to drink and they arrived ok. Then we were given the menu and we asked if roast dinners were still available as they were on the menu. We were told no, so what was left was literally 4 main courses plus starters etc. a burger, a steak, fish and chips and maybe a vegetarian choice? If we hadn’t already been sat with our drinks we would have left. We should have been made aware when we arrived so that we could make a decision? Surely if all the roasts are gone there should be more choices available? Staff apologised afterwards but it was all too late. The damage is done. We won’t be recommending or going there again.

Lovely meal here with family, we were a large party so ordered in advance. Staff were great and food was delicious. Roasts were a good size and gravy was lovely. The vegan pudding was tasty. Children's playground was good fun. Would recommend a visit.

The sweetest country pub, lovely atmosphere and great food! You definitely get quality and taste in this beautiful pub, we only stopped in for a quick lunch but definitely going back for some puddings! They look amazing!

We went here for Sunday lunch. We thought it was a little on the pricey side. That's the old adage goes, you get what you pay for and we certainly did. I had no spare tables when we first arrived, but The lady who was dealing with us managed to find a table for two. It had armchairs rather than dining chairs but we were just happy to be accommodated. Took a while to get served, but they were extremely busy and as I say there wasn't a spare table available. We both ordered a Sunday roast (beef) Which was really lovely. Served with a generous serving of freshly cooked and very tasty veg. The yorkshires were amazing!!! If you're ever in the area and looking for somewhere to go for a Sunday lunch, I would strongly recommend The White Hart.

So, a relatively quiet night. Lovely pub can imagine when busy it has a really good vibe. The food was absolutely fantastic, but the portions are far too big. I would have paid the same for smaller portions. Cannot fault the service genuinely polite and friendly staff even after the waitress spilt two pints on us. She was mortified. I hope she is OK and it should not put her off. Stuff happens. But we had a lovely evening, so thanks to all. Can only imagine a great place for the bore....

The food was average, a few hours after eating it all had an stomach bug. The wrong food given to the wrong person so why ask how we wanted the steaks. Plates were cold so that's not going to help the food to keep hot.

Popped in on a whim and it was lovely and welcoming, the food was good and we were able to take the dogs in so that was a bonus.

Lovely Sunday roast, I had pork, my partner had beef. Veg are 'Al dente' if you want more gravy, just ask. They are very busy on a Sunday but they can cope. Service with a smile, nothing is too much trouble. We called in of the off chance we could get a table and although they were very busy they found us somewhere to sit whilst we waited half an hour (which turned out to be much quicker) best to book in future. We will definitely return.

I made a booking for Sunday lunch (21-01-24) for my myself, my wife and her son and family who we have not seen for a long time. We decided on The White Hart and thought this would be a nice venue for this special occasion. I made the booking on the Tuesday prior to the Sunday giving plenty of notice and agreed the time, discussed, and reserved a certain table in an area where dogs are allowed and tucked away, giving my full name and telephone contact number. On the Sunday we arrived spot on time only to notice the table I booked occupied, when I gave my name the staff looked a little confused, it was clear there was a problem, I was offered a table for two, I said the booking was for five, we were then shown to a table that could only seat four, once again I explained the situation only to be told for my group to wait at the bar (with dogs) until the original booked table became free, it was obvious that this would be some time as the people at this table had only just been served their main course, as it transpired the wait would have been over an hour for the table to become vacant. In the end we were allocated a table in an area that was okay but disappointing in comparison to where we thought we were going to sit. To my amazement I was informed that the reason for the situation was they were terribly busy with two separate groups who were there for separate special occasions, guess my special occasion was less important to them and I question how would this effect bookings ! I understand that booking errors happen, however, not once did I receive an apology for the mix-up, or even an offer of a complimentary drink, this turn of events completely took the edge off our special occasion, so sad for my wife and her family. Food was good but the ability of staff to deal with a situation of a booking error of their doing was dreadful and verging on rudeness from what I think was the female manager who I spoke to and made to feel the situation was of my doing. Will I return, I doubt it, customer service and politeness are equally as important as quality of food. Paul H

I've been coming here for years through the many people who have owned it. I would say it's at its best now. Food is fantastic,service is great and the atmosphere is always cosy and inviting here. Plenty of option on the menu but you do wait quite a while for food. The place is beautiful at night the way it is lit outside and it always makes me feel like I am on a boat. The place is always clean and tidy.

Had an amazing Christmas Day meal here, the food was fantastic and the service was simply amazing. Staff were fantastic and worked so hard. Would highly recommend a meal here 😋

Popped in for a meal with family 2 of us had the cod xxl and God it was huge and cooked to perfection (be warned it really is huge My wife had the steak and ale pie and said it was packed with meat And my sister in law had the rump and said that was really tender and tasty. Very well priced too We will be going back

Service excellent... The Pheasant & Duck Breast totally overcooked. IF you have to pre cook these things.. cook them very rare, so they arrive on the plate medium as they are supposed to be presented. Haddock Fish Cakes totally overcooked on the bottom so very hard to cut through. Sorry but just a few tweaks could improve dramatically. As with any Pub...perfect 6-8 dishes & do them soooo well people come from miles. Spread way too fine.
