The worst roast dinner ever. Tough meat ( loins not actually a joint of meat), miserable waitress, lack lustre potatoes.

Table booked for wife’s birthday. Turned up and frankly they couldn’t be any less bothered. Made us wait for a table for 15 minutes then advised us there was no food. No apology, just matter of fact. Having frequented this place before, had hopes that new management would be good. Bluntly not. NOT RECOMMENDED

The pub is in a really lovely spot and we stopped for a bite before a walk. The lady who worked the bar/ served us was brilliant and the beers were great. However, it worst food we’ve ever been served. It was genuinely inedible. The pie was not homemade, sloppy and slimey and the chicken schnitzel was burnt to a crisp and totally tasteless. We all felt unwell for the rest of the afternoon which was obviously not great. In addition, it’s incredibly overpriced for what you get. It’s such a shame as the food we ordered was really simple and we just wanted yummy pub food.

I don't like writing poor reviews but sadly this experience did not live up to expectations. The front of house lady was charming and helpful. Only Sunday roast was available which would have been okay if it had been cooked well. The beef was tough and dry, the roast potatoes over done and veg soggy. The vegetarian 'no nut loaf' was uninspiring. A good chef would not have allowed the food to be served.

Poor food ! Peas like bullets. Smallest steak that was over cooked. I asked for it to be med/rare. The fish & chips which were under cooked. They claim to use local produce but the food was tasteless. On a positive note, its a lovely pub for a drink. Apparently it was taken over not that long ago. Shame as it has so much potential to be great again.

We came to the rising sun inn with our dog and were greeted at the door by their lovely staff. They were happy for us to have our dog inside and gave him a bowl of water. We started off by ordering a round of the mulled cider which was yum. Sunday lunch at the Rising Sun. expensive, average sized portions, a chicken platter to share so you have to stand up hacking a whole chicken up while your veg goes cold and getting greasy fingers. Poorly cooked beef, terrible service bordering on inept. Tall, slim lady (could be the owner) looked so miserable we almost felt sorry for her, slow service from a young waitress who clearly had no idea what she was doing. A shadow of its former self. We left an average review a few years ago but, came back to give it another chance, won’t be rushing back for a good few years again. Shame really.

We had lunch here about 6 months ago and although we found it a bit pricey, the quality of everything made it worth a return visit for a special occasion. Sadly when we did that today we were disappointed. The prices were still ‘enthusiastic’ but the portions seemed to have halved. Myself and my wife had the beef which was nice but for £13.95 it was well overpriced. Also for £10 the cheeseboard was also a bit meagre and we even had to ask for extra crackers because so few had been initially provided. The service was friendly but a bit chaotic. My wife asked twice for custard with her dessert but sure enough ice cream accompanied it. Also the cheese board was delivered with no plates or cutlery.Spending £160 on Sunday lunch for four people is not an every week habit and we felt sorry for our friends who had treated us as we had paid for the previous visit to the Rising Sun. I fear a third visit won’t happen.

If you like to pay over the top prices for small portions of standard pub food this is the place for you. For the price of the food the quality wasn’t anything special, just standard pub food, edible but very underwhelming, The portion sizes were ridiculously small. A main for £18 was the size of a starter! The menu limited with only 1 veggie option and the service poor. We had to repeatedly ask for service. Yes a very nice looking gastro pub but ultimately the quality of food and service didn’t match the decor. Such a disappointment!

The food was, in the main, very good. However the reason for this review is to express disappointment with the beer: Hardings. It was new to me and, apparently, to the pub as well. Unfortunately it tasted sour but the bar tender seemed unimpressed with my comment to this effect which went ignored as, indeed, was my drink, by me. Just to say I should have appreciated it were I to have been offered an alternative.

This tucked away thatched smallish pub is very good. I had the ploughmans at lunchtime midweek which was good. The Proper job ale was well conditioned. What a disappointment, I’d like to think we were just really unlucky, or was we? From the very start to the very end, nothing was right. We both ordered sirloin steak, medium to well, which came with half a grilled tomato on top. The tomato was grilled, yet it was stone cold, where had it been waiting before being used? Not in a warm place that’s for sure. Next I cut into the steak which was over cooked, totally grey inside, see pictures, that’s well done, the chef must know this, and should really do better at £23 a go. Now to the triple cooked chips which were soft and soggy to hold yet some were a little under cooked inside, definably not triple cooked like it says on the menu, see pictures. Then my wife said have you noticed they’re not even chips, she was right they were wedges, no wonder they were not triple cooked. Lastly the dessert, I had crumble which must have been heated up in a microwave as it was hot on the edge and cold in the middle, as for the custard, it ran off the spoon like milk, very runny. Every aspect of tonight’s meal was flawed. Did the chef have a day off? I cannot believe the food is like this all the time as it has good ratings. When the waitress came over to ask if things are ok, I did not know where to start so just said, thank you.

I and my wife visited yesterday (4 August) for a family lunch with parents-in-law and our older son and his girlfriend. We had a nice large table for six on the other side of the glass partition to the left of the door as you enter, with comfortable leather chairs. The roast beef and pork were cooked to perfection with decent quantities of vegetables and extra gravy, and extra horseradish sauce when we asked for it.The desserts were also very good - crumble with custard, raspberry pannacotta and the cheeseboard which my father-in-law really enjoyed (and I will have next time!).Drinks were fairly priced with Butcombe and Thatchers Haze amongst others on tap.The roast beef and pork were priced attractively at £13.95 and £12.95 respectively, given the size of the portions and the quality. It was good to chat with the owner Linda and her daughter when I paid the bill (which I didn’t resent - for a change!!).All in all I can’t fault the experience. We all enjoyed the lunch very much and most certainly will be back. Many thanks to you all.

Having been treated for my birthday, I was looking forward to going to the rising sun. On arrival we had to drop off 2 people from our party as they are elderly. We were immediately shown to our table, the person who was obviously in charge, I thought was very abrupt unfriendly, it was as though we were an intrusion. Because the party were elderly they are also hard of hearing. There seemed to be very little patience or friendliness towards them. The waitress took our order was very polite, the food was good. But I thought expensive and very pretentious as is the pub. We are all local to the area, but will not be returning in the near future. I appreciate it is a tourist area and a very wealthy area, but it is not good to rely on tourism. This pub has been closed so many times in the past. Please treat all customers with the same respect!

We visited the rising sun inn recently with the family. There were 11 of us and it’s always a challenging number of people to cater for. I can say that the staff and the chef faced the challenge in a great way.

We arrived for 1445 booking in the bar but someone was sitting at our table,. However, another was found. The place was very busy but the staff coped very well. The lunch was really tasty and well presented.

Well worth five stars for food, service and ambience. Plenty of choice for lunchtime meals including homemade soup with interesting cheesey bread accompaniment and amazing ham, egg and chips for about £10.00. Scallops and fresh fish if you want to pay a bit more. I shall return in the evening to try the wine list.

A mid week bar snack turned into a re-heated steak pudding and a 38quid bar bill. An apology was lovely but your food was poor. I will stick to the blue ball in future!

This place has so many good reviews, I really don't understand. The service was so slow it was unbearable, and when we mentioned to the person in charge, we just got a rude response. These people obvs think they know food and wine but clearly don't, we like a previous review had a corked wine, and when we asked for it to be changed we also told "It can't be, Its from a screw top". Well anyone who knows wine will tell you that The cork effect can happen when the wine in the barrel, not just from the cork of a bottle. The food was okay but clearly rushed. The waitress was lovely mind but rushed off her feet, while some girl whom I was informed was the mangers daughter swanned around, looking pleased with herself in a chefs jacket... I would not have been If my food looked like that... Maybe if she is the chef, go back to the kitchen, or take off the jacket and help your poor wait staff. Middle road trying to be fine dinning.

We went there a few weeks ago as a party of 8 and it was a shambles from start to finish. The table was booked for a birthday well in advance and they were informed that one of the party was a celiac and therefore anything gluten was off limits.

Went for Sunday lunch. We had made a reservation, so waited patiently at the bar for a member of staff to seat us...After a few minutes we were led upstairs to our table and asked if we wanted to order a drink. We asked for a wine list and ordered a bottle of beer and some water.

Had lunch in the Rising Sun today and found the service and food just perfect! Extremely smart and clean pub with excellent menu and very reasonable wine list. Sea Bass was as good as any eaten in Central London and service first class. Best place we found in the Quantocks. Could not be faulted. Don't believe all you read on TripAdvisor.....hmmm......

Had a brilliant meal in The Rising Sun tonight. The setting and decor was lovely and very fitting for the area. The staff, although very young, were all polite, friendly and helpful. I had the mussels to start which were delicious and fresh, as was the homemade bread that it came with. I then had the pork tenderloin which had been enthusiastically described by one of the owners who explained the homemade pasta and the freshly pickled nasturtium seeds that had been grown and picked on site. This meal was the highlight of the evening, it was absolutely delicious! And again very fresh tasting. Everyone else at the table loved their meals and we all left very happy and satisfied. If you’re in the area you have to try it!

The Rising Sun comes with many very good reviews so perhaps we expected quite a lot from it. We visited at lunch time a couple of weeks ago. My wife eats a gluten free diet, her choices from the pubs menu were somewhat limited! We were told most foods are bought in fresh from local suppliers and this then makes it difficult for the pub to cope with gluten free diets – especially as they are only asked at most two or three times a week to cater in this way. It’s interesting to note one person in another group who were eating there did not order a meal as she was also gluten free and there was nothing on the menu she could eat! The menu did not contain any information about food allergies. So we both ended up with hand cut ham. So to the food, well it was ok, the ham appeared to be processed rather than fresh which was a little surprising and disappointing. Once our order was placed service was fairly quick.

Having met friends for a walk at Fyne Court we decided to call in for some lunch afterwards. What a little gem! Beautiful pub, clean and well presented. Cheerful helpful staff, good menu which catered for our Vegan and Gluten free friends. We would definitely visit again

We enjoyed a lovely meal and it was great to see The Lethbridge busy again. If you want quality Thai food, this is the place to go.

Was shown to table, really friendly staff. Chose the breakfast and a couple of drinks. It looks expensive but well worth it. As wasn’t busy, came out quick. Though it was starting to fill up. Only criticism is plates need to be warmed as food went cold quick, and more butter. We would return.

Came in today and the food was quick and was great, our waitress Ellie was brilliant and my siblings absolutely adored her and she was brilliant with them. Ellie also helped us with all our questions and couldn’t have been more helpful even while being pretty busy as well.

Today I had a table booked for lunch. It was my first visit to the cafe. A really excellent experience. The telephone help was friendly and easy. Our table was clearly marked. Windows were open which, as I am immuno suppressed, meant I felt comfy to sit inside rather than out. I was thrilled to see the smaller meals as I should eat small meals. Often this leaves me asking for children’s options which isn’t a great feeling. To see even half slices of tray bakes was lovely. This is all brilliant accessibility in areas that not many cafes seem to think about. The food was tasty and seemed very freshly prepared. Finally, I have been a fan of other restaurants on the same stretch of road. However, their menus have become outside my budget. The food here felt very good value indeed. I look forward to returning again, soon.
