The Rising Sun is under new ownership and I’m pleased to see it seems on the way back to its former glory. The pub is undergoing some much needed renovations. We had a really good meal there and very enjoyable evening, the menu isn’t huge but what was on offer cooked well and very good quality. All washed down with an equally good bottle of Malbec.

Land lord was really quite rude. Telling us it was his business and he can do what he wants - shutting the pub at 6:30 on a Saturday evening. It wasn’t what was said - it was his manner and the way he said it Avoid this pub as you will get much better service elsewhere

Came to Bath for our 40th wedding anniversary over weekend of 18th -20th June 22. Wanted somewhere to go for Sunday lunch like a lot of English folk do. Where do you begin, word of mouth TripAdvisor take note of number of people eating there. Well my wife came upon some pictures on line from customers having Sunday lunch here and said “That’s where we going” we called early Sunday morning and reserved a table. Well, absolutely fantastic, people look nowhere else if you are looking for a GREAT Sunday roast, plenty of food, very good variety and HOMEMADE. We had roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, carrot and Swede mash and coulliflower cheese, with great gravy. Great hot homemade Sunday roast. Thank you.

We visited on Sunday for lunch as part of a weekend trip to Bath and it was top notch. Excellent food, great service and just a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. We all went for a roast dinner (3 beef, 1 chicken) and the meat was superb. Roast potatoes and parsnips just the way we like them. Cracking cauliflower cheese. Plenty of veg and, most importantly, plenty of gravy. I have no hesitation in saying it was the best Sunday lunch I have had whilst out. The closest thing to your nan's/mum's/own in terms of taste that you'll get.

We stayed with Lorraine, Norman and Millie the dog for 2 nights in their family room. We had breakfast both days and ate in on the second night. Lorraine and Norman are excellent hosts. The pub is ~2mins walk to the Pulteney bridge. The room and bathroom were clean, well equipped and comfortable. The floor was quirkily angled close to the window, reflecting the age of the pub, which my kids enjoyed. The bed was comfy and we slept well. There is parking on the street outside, but sometimes this is busy though Norman pointed us in the right direction. The breakfasts were generous and we left well filled without opting for an additional cooked option. There was a good selection on the evening menu and all the choices looked good when they came out of the kitchen. The food was obviously freshly cooked and tasted good.

We visited the Rising Sun whilst we were on a week's holiday in Bath. The owner Norman kindly put gammon steak on the specials board for us, which was very kind of him. The meal was so good we returned another two times to eat there. We had calamari which was good. My husband had ribs which were excellent. Another day we both had sirloin steak which was amazing in fact it was better than any 5 star restaurant. We highly recommend eating here as the standard is excellent. Good quality food and superb staff would definitely return when visiting Bath.

I’m so so pleased I booked this place for Sunday lunch. Everything was cooked to perfection... the roast beef was pink and so tender you didn’t even need a knife and there was a nice portion too.. the gravy was delicious, no bisto here! Roast potatoes and parsnips were crispy, cauliflower cheese was actually cheesy and all the veg was so flavourful and not forgetting the yorkshires which were homemade and huge! Wish I lived nearby I’d be a regular. Such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and not pretentious or overpriced either.

Sunday roast is so incredibly delicious that me and my partner have become regulars for the past 3 months with the exception of lockdown of course. The beef is succulent and tender. You get plenty of various fresh vegetables, scrumptious gravy and a yummy Yorkshire pudding. But it's not just the incredible food that sets this place apart from the very high standards in Bath: service is truly impeccable and very friendly at the same time, the Team are wonderful, they really make us feel so welcome every single time, we really enjoy returning time after time. We have tried literally every roast dinner establishment in Bath, this beats all hands down. Place is beautiful and you feel safe as COVID regulations are followed perfectly. Last but not least, it's excellent value for money. Couldn't recommend more!

On Sunday the 14th December we had the distinct please of visiting The Rising Sun for a Sunday lunch. We were made to feel very welcome and I must say I was very impressed with the COVID 19 measures put in place by the owners. The meal (Turkey Christmas dinner)was extraordinarily good. It was hot and well presented with plenty of veggies and perfectly cooked Turkey. The meal we enjoyed is something I’d be more than happy to enjoy at home on Christmas Day. It really was SO good!We planned on having a pudding each, but decided against it because we were full and we didn’t want to lose the lovely taste of the dinner. We left a good tip as we felt it warranted it and wanted to show our appreciation at giving us a pre Christmas glow. The Rising Sun in Bath will now be an essential visit whenever we’re in Bath. A massve thank you to Lorraine, Norman and the team for hosting an enjoyable, and most importantly, covid safe stay at the Rising Sun. As we've posted before, this cracking pub ticks all the boxes for a visit to Bath and the way in which they're coping during these crazy times deserves total respect. Understandably, the covid rules, and their implementation, although applied sympathetically and regrettably, have to be rigid. It's in everyone's interest that they are. But we didn't feel restrained or restricted in any way. Well done, and thank you once again to all at the Rising Sun. Keep up the good work !

Great location, nice room. Lovely staff. If you book with booking.com you only get a continental breakfast which was nice and plentiful, evening meal was overpriced, bland and tasteless. We were not advised that there were road works outside and that we would have to walk far for a parking space even though we spoke to them the day before! Hosts were OVER regimental with COVID guidelines, as we stood in the doorway before even saying hello we were told VERY loudly to put our mask on, they were in ours hands ready to put on as soon as we had actually entered! We were then MARCHED around their one way system, out in to the rain! We're all for following guidelines but there is a way to speak to adults and unfortunately they didn't know how, we felt like and were treated like,we were back at school! Won't be returning!

Myself and my partner stayed and dined at the Rising Sun Inn. We had an amazing time. From the moment we walked in to check - in, we was greeted with a warm welcome. Shown around the place to highlight wher breakfast was, entrances and exits at certain times of the day. The room was delightful, bright and cheery however the only thing I would say, is that you can hear alot of noise/all conversations and movements from the rooms next door or above. This however, did not bother us. We enjoyed our time downstairs in the pub where we had a glass of wine and beer. Delightful. We then went on to booking a table in the restuarant area and dined with one of the best steak meals I have ever had! I love my steaks and tend to be very judgemental on the way they are cooked but the Rising Sun Inn blew me away! The steaks were cooked beautifully with a wonderful selection of a side salad. The homemade chips were great and plenty of food for your money. We of course, finished the lot!

Before making the reservation, after doing a bit of research I got the impression the Rising Sun Inn was one of the best places to dine when visiting Bath. So with my expectations set, I booked a table for 2 for my wife and I.

I never write reviews but my lunch today deserves one. I'm also hard to please....this Sunday lunch was up there with the best i have had. Every element of the roast full of flavour....I had a veggie nut roast..delish and the veggie gravy (Which is usually a let down elsewhere) was dark and rich. The service was warm and welcoming which added to the experience. I recommend and I can't wait to go back.

We had a delicious Sunday lunch here first time even though it is on our doorstep the roast potatoes were wonderful and very tender beef . Pudding was far too nice will be dreaming of them for a wile. Our hosts were the nicest most genuine couple made us feel very welcome unfortunately unlike a rather loud table next to us who obviously took a dislike to us we should have asked to be moved but that does seem a bit embarrassing but we were not put off by this just giggled each to their own.

My husband and I recently stayed at the rising sun inn and was so pleased with this little gem of a place. It was ideally located for all the sites and shops around the city. Norman and Lorrain were the perfect hosts, helpful with information of what to see and how to get there, nothing was too much trouble! We can recommend their food, its second to none, we ate every night in their restaurant having found it to be excellent food and good quality for money!!! We were also pleasantly surprised that having booked direct we were entitled to a cooked breakfast (large and delicious) though the continental breakfast had plenty on offer. We stayed in room 2 and I was brought to tears being in the quaintest of rooms, rural décor and French shutters to the windows. When waking up in the morning, overlooking the rooftops the view is that of a beautiful church steeple!!!! Thank you both for a wonderful stay with you, we look forward to staying again on our next visit to bath. SONIA AND MARK

We stayed here 2 adults and 2 children in a very comfortable room for one night. The owner was very welcoming and friendly and the room was perfect for all of us to be together, clean and comfortable. Wonderful breakfast with everything you would want to start your day. Great location and would definately stay again on our next visit to Bath.

Consigliatissimo!

Four of us went there for Sunday lunch, food amazing, high quality meat cooked to perfection, lovely roasties fresh veg and cauliflower cheese yummy, loved the gravy and requested more and out came a large jug Bravo to the chef would thoroughly recommend the beef, also Specials on board if you fancy something different. Finished off with a fab apple crumble and custard, would certainly go back, it was very busy but we had pre booked. So maybe booking recommended.

What an amazing find. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, had lunch dinner and breakfast. All excellent. Would definitely stay here again as the location for visiting Bath is great. Thank you so very much to all the staff and to the owners who helped make my wife's birthday so memorable.

Only stayed for one night but wish we could of stayed longer. Best location ever, 5 minute walk to centre, restaurants, bars and shops. Parking is on street but you get a permit from pub 5 pounds a day. Rooms good size, clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Had dinner there and our meal was delicious. Seafood linguine was amazing. Husband had pork belly which he really enjoyed. Great chef.!! Would definitely recommend.

We ate our Sunday lunch here. We had prawns for our starter which was on the specials board. I had roast beef and my partner had roast chicken. We both said it was the best roast we had eaten out in ages. The portion size was big and really good value for money. The couple that run the restaurant were very friendly and welcoming. We would definitely recommend visiting here to eat.

We had a lovely room with very flexible check in given we were off and about most of the day. The breakfast was beyond delicious - chef knows his craft. While Bath can be full of travelers and students, this B&B; is tucked away on a side street - quiet yet easily walkable to every point of interest as well as the train/bus station.

After visiting the lavender farm near Bath we fancied a roast and at such short notice we found it difficult to find a restaurant that wasn’t full. Fortunately after some googling we came across the Rising Sun. I was with my partner, sister and our toddler. Our toddler was having a melt down to say the least and the restaurant staff were very understanding. We went for a chicken, pork and beef and a cottage pie for our daughter. All came very promptly with plenty of veg and very tasty gravy. My partner said his pork crackling was particularly good. The Yorkshire puddings were to die for and I could have eaten a few :) the beef looked melt in the mouth and all very hot. We will definitely be back.

What a wonderful bed & breakfast. Free parking on the roads as long as you stayed at this place. The owners even allowed us to stay after we checked out and use the free parking of the inn. It was very quaint, owners lovely and the food was fantastic. We were here as a family and we all had to try the famous Fish & Chips. We ate it the way the English did with vinegar. Coming from the states, we never tasted Fish & Chips the way it was made here and never tasted it as good in other places we visited in England. The rooms were on the second and third floor. Each of the rooms had their own bathroom and there was excellent water pressure. Coming here, you really get the feel of how the English lived back in the day. The Inn was about a mile from the Roman Baths. Highly recommend this wonderful place.

I’ve never written a review before, but here I am. We had a Sunday roast lunch booked for 3:30pm, we walked in and the place had a strange vibe to it as some tables were empty with plates etc still on, few tables busy but no one eating - and bar staff just polishing glasses. Lady behind the bar pointed to our table reluctantly after looking through the list of bookings, we then sat down. We stayed sat down for 15/20 minutes and no one had come over to clean it, give us a menu, or even ask us if we’d like a drink. At this point, I stood up and went to the bar, I explained the situation to the lady behind the bar who was what I’d describe as unhelpful and rude. She shrugged her shoulders, never apologised, suggested we move table and I wait for the manager. This lack of attentiveness and care really shone a bad light on this place for me as a new customer. We left the pub after no sign of a manager or further care, only to search the city looking for a roast somewhere else. I will never be returning.
