It's old and the floors are sloping, but it has charm. Everything is lovingly furnished (no fridge), very clean and room 21 is very large compared to the others.

Stayed in Bath for a couple of nights over the weekend and came across this gem. Great bar staff and a wonderful selection of local beers and spirits. My favourite was the Spiced Rum with Hot Ginger Beer. My wife loved the vodka and light Tonic. The mixers were by approval of HRH Prince of Wales!! Food menu looked good but on this occasion we didn't partake. Another time. Give it a go as the atmosphere was really relaxing

This used to be the Hobgoblin, but had a major refurb and reopened as the Black Fox several years ago. At first I thought it seemed a bit soulless and expensive, but it has now settled down to be a good, comfortable pub, with a reasonable range of beers and a good food selection.

Excellent service on a very busy Saturday. Great selection of drinks. We actually left to go to another pub, where we had a table booked for the rugby, but service was horrendous so we gave up and returned to the black fox. We decided wisely that their selection of local gins was a much better option than watching Scotland beat England!

Chose this as we parked in Avon rd car park and it was nearby. The menu sounded nice and had veg and gluten free choices so was ideal for all. We had soup, hummus, burger, fish finger sandwich washed down with some local ales and porter. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere with good food and service and nice toilets! No wonder it was full the whole time we were there with tables being replaced as soon as people left and everyone looked satisfied 😊

We were really happy to find a table soon after we arrived as it was Xmas market Day and Bath was really busy. There was a small menu and a specials board so we decided what we would like to eat and made our way to the bar to order. Unfortunately this is when we found out they couldn't cater for my friend who was gluten free which wouldn't have been an issue, only The Black Fox clearly stated on the menu, allergies could be catered for. I asked for one of the dishes from the specials board only to be told there shouldn't be anything on the specials board as they don't have them. We chose food from the standard menu and my coeliacs friend went without. The food was ok but nothing too special. I'm not sure if they were short of crockery that day but the waitress came over quite a few times to retrieve our empty plates, even whilst others in our party were still eating. All in all a disappointing visit.

The Black Fox is to be avoided. At first you have hope. It looks cool from the outside. There's plenty of seating and there's a concise menu. All ticks in my book. However, I went to the bar to place my order (2 x steak sandwich and chips, 1 beer and 1 soda and lime = £33) and the female staff member spent the whole time gossiping and complaining to her male colleague. The whole experience was one where I felt more of an inconvenience than a paying customer. The place looks small from the outside but there are more seats downstairs. With only 2 people running the show (server and cook?) it felt like they were 1 short, with people often left waiting to have their order taken. I went looking for a member of staff to ask for ketchup and eventually gave up after waiting so long and searching both floors. Finally the food arrived and the best I can say is the chips were ok. The steak sandwich had 3 tiny pieces of meat and the bread was really dry and heavy. In fact we both left most of the bread and focused on the chips. I don't think any of the staff have ever eaten this dish. It should be easy and simple but it was, frankly, unpleasant. Even after the application if some much needed ketchup. When I asked someone else later that day they confirmed the Black Fox is not recommended. Save your money and go elsewhere. There are 100s of better establishments within walking distance. It's a shame.

Our room was on the third floor with no lift making it a bit of a struggle for us with COPD and asthma. The room was very clean and well furnished however it wasn't possible to sit up in bed at all as the bed was placed on a sloping wall. Each turn over in the night meant we banged our heads on the ceiling! Easily fixed by putting the head end against the opposite wall but... At various times during our stay - every couple of minutes - the entire building shook. Not sure of the cause but it made for an interesting night. Breakfast was good and for the price, overall it was good enough for one night.

I was able to manage but it was good to know help was there should I have needed it. Breakfast was cooked perfectly, served on a warmed plate (some establishments forget this!), and there was a good veggie option. Good loose leaf tea was served in a teapot, not a teabag swimming around in hot water as happens in some establishments nowadays. Our room was serviced daily and was immaculately clean. We will be back!!

The menu says they can prepare gluten free food, to later find out they actually don't. I came here with a friend who is celiac, ordered myself a sweet potato squash pie (£15) given that the menu seemed to guarantee my friend could have got something. Then it wasn't the case. She asked at the counter and there wasn't anything they could make. This doesn't really make sense, if you can't offer anything gluten free don't write it in the menu, we would have left and gone somewhere else but I had already ordered. I don't see what they gain from doing so, you'd just receive well deserved upset reviews. A premise that doesn't specifically offer gluten free food won't say it in the menu, perhaps you can ask if they can but this wasn't the case, the menu explicitly specified they would offer gluten free food.

We stayed 2 nights a week ago. The room was nice although the rooms shake after a bus drives past so if you have sensory issues this might not be the hotel for you. The floor dips so people with accessibility issues may find trouble. The bed was comfy but no live TV guide so you’re left to go through every on demand app to find out what’s live. Breakfast was average, no option of any other eggs than poached. On the first morning of breakfast I was given a dirty cup with my orange juice in it. After drinking 1/4 of it I realised it was dirty as there was a lipstick mark on it which horrified me tbf as I don’t ever wear lipstick. Lady serving rectified the issue but still left me feeling a loss of appetite. Breakfast was able to be adjusted so that I could have beans on toast so that was a +. It’s in a great location for walking about bath although no parking so a 5 minute walk and almost £40 to park makes me feel uneasy. Probably will consider public transport next time. Plug sockets on each side of bed which is a bonus for tech savvy people

Gobsmacked how rude and unwelcoming the bar lady was Tuesday evening October 10th. There was hardly anybody in there, I asked for our drink orders and everything I asked naturally came with a please & thank you, I was Met with no manners, tutting huffing and puffing because she poured white instead of red wine, which wasn’t my fault. After the order was complete, I’ve got the money to pay and I’ve got Met with no cash card. Only no sorry but we don’t take cash or anything like that. It was plain and simple don’t take cash card only… WOW! Firstly, all my cards and everything was in the hotel because we have just left the spa and all I had was £20 in cash so I said okay no problem we can’t drink then I’m sorry, she snatched the drinks off the bar pouring most of it over the side to try and pour it back in a bottle as we left . What is wrong with all these establishments not wanting to take cash that has made me now only pay by cash, and if I go anywhere now in the future because of this, I will refuse to pay any other way apart from Cash

We stayed two nights here at a cost of £358 and were very disappointed. The bedroom was a good size but had no air conditioning so the only way to stay cool on a hot night was to open the two windows, open the curtains, and try to sleep with the road noise and the noise of the floor fan. The bathroom window could not be opened.. The television service was streaming only. Had to sign on to get Netflix, BBC etc. No live ITV. The shower in the bathroom could be considered dangerous. A deep free standing tub that was very slippy and had nothing to hold on to - no handles. The breakfast was limited - no eggs other than poached. Toast was buttered warm and was soggy. The bacon and sausages were nice. The staff were nice and did their best. The location was good. Great for walking around the old town, but with no parking. £18 per day at Southgate.. Overall the stay was really good, the room was extremely clean with good WiFi, Dyson fan to keep you cool (the room did get fairly warm) and the bathroom was very luxurious and big. A hair dryer is also included. There is complimentary body wash, shampoo, bubble bath, hand wash and cream to use during your stay which was a nice touch. There is a modern TV with Netflix so you can binge to your heart's desire. The bed was really comfy, the duvet was thick (bit too thick for the time of year) and plenty of pillows. We had breakfast included with our stay which was great, really high quality food! The only negatives are as follows : The light switch for the bathroom (which is opposite the bed) is on the outside, meaning if you need to toilet at night you will probably wake up your partner with light. I also found you could hear footsteps from around the building. During the day the road next to you is very busy, lots of loud cars, busses, honking. Overall the was a great place to stay and I would definitely come back again!

Great value for money!! Yummy food and lovely interior. We ordered sandwiches and the portions were huge for the price, I couldn’t finish mine but my hubby polished his off. Will definitely be back when we back in Bath!

We went in for dinner. Nice enough pub, but the food was disappointing. Small pie with some mash and tiny portion of peas (described as greens on the menu!), served on a small side plate.

We loved our stay. A small inn in a beautiful old building that has a bed and breakfast feel. Our room and bath were very spacious and well lit. The hotel is near everything in Bath and the downstairs pub is great. Lots of local...

Nice pub, ok beer, limited but nice menu. I had a Bath ale which was ok, between us we ordered sausage and mash along with fish and chips both of which were good. Our experience was tempted by indifferent service. There's a lot of competition...

We stayed two nights at the Black Fox. The location is superb. We were on the top floor and no lift, which meant we had three flights of stairs to climb. However the room was spotlessly clean. We managed to stay during a very hot...
