Stopped off for evening meal - place a bit run down, but £17 for Beer Battered Fish & Chips was, I felt, overpriced and I felt ripped off. It wasn’t that special and the so called mushy peas were dry and stodgy - inedible for me as the stick in my throat, they were awful. At my local in my home twin I can get pan fried sea bass served with seasonal veg or salad, and chunk chips for £18.

Disappointing Christmas Eve Lunch We booked the Christmas Lunch set meal for Christmas Eve (we decided to treat ourselves this year, as this isn't something we normally do at Christmas, as it's expensive.) On arrival at the pub, there were no staff around, so we thought we'd just sit at the table which had been set with cutlery. I noticed that there were hardly any decorations up and so it didn't feel 'Special' or indeed 'Christmassy'. such a shame. We visited at Halloween time and that was better. Whoever laid the table, had done it so that you were facing the wall and not the fireplace – a bit strange I thought! So we changed that ourselves. The table also hadn't been cleaned properly from the previous customer, which was not nice. The service wasn't great for the money they charge. Not made to feel very welcome or special. When each course was brought to the table, there was no mention as to what the starters were. It wasn't obvious from looking at it. However, the food was lovely, but the service and the overall lack of Christmassy ambience, left us feeling underwhelmed. Unfortunately, we won't be booking for Christmas next year.

Good ciders and local ales. Friendly staff. Outside space for kids to run about... it's a shame that came at the expense of the real grass but it's good in most weathers now and there is a covered area with heaters. Pub quiz at 8pm every Sunday seems to have disappeared for now. Longing to have it back! Update: tonight was a joy. Packed bar, fire in the corner, friends, laughs and 10.45 last orders. 2022 update. The garden is a joy. On a balmy summers evening with the local cricket team retiring for last orders. The marquee seems to be a permanent feature now so, with the sides off, there's plenty of shade in a heat wave.

terrible service, meal took forever to arrive, soup was brought out with main meals but there were no spoons to eat it with, we waited over 2 hours for the meal to arrive, when we asked why it was so long we were told the chicken takes a long time to cook, but the chicken was cold when it did eventually arrive, the roast potato's I think had been left from the weekend before, dry absolutely no taste to them, the broccoli was yellow, we decided on Cheesecake for dessert & even this we had to wait nearly 3/4 of an hour before that arrived, there were no apologies for the delay.I suggest they either hire more staff to speed things up or invest in some new ovens

Food took 2 hours to come.. Children were crying so I had to get my mother's day chocolates out for them. We asked 3 times where our food was only to be told the chicken takes a long time. Then it came out first and it was cold, roast potatoes were burnt. Chips for the baby came last and were refried so much there was no potato just oil. No check backs to see if food was ok. All in all a very disappointing experience. Bill was £293 so the service should have been better.

The pub itself is really nice inside and the staff are welcoming. But it was very cold. I appreciate it’s an old pub but I didn’t want to remove my coat. We had Sunday lunch which was ok but we thought it was very pricey for what you get. We were surprised that we had to pay extra for a Yorkshire pudding when the roast was £16.20 already! The pork belly tasted nice but you get a very small amount. The roasties and gravy were delicious though. More gravy would have been appreciated, but that was another £2. Some parts of the roast were cold or tepid. We wouldn’t return.

The Cross Keys is, like a lot of the buildings in Bath, soaked in history. Once a coaching house dating back to the 1700's - it's not 'the' very oldest establishment in the area, but can claim original stone fireplaces and a detailed history - for whome those who are interested, is detailed on a plaque by the front door. Tis many a year since I was here last and I'm not sure the Cask Marque Ale Trail was extant then, but that was then and this is now. On this visit the ale was to be tried and be found in the most noble condition. The Blindmans Icarus 4.5% abv, (not noted by CM) was so more-ish it needed a couple more pints to slate the palette. The pub itself, rare (these days) has not been converted into a surround-one-bar-gentrified conversion, but remains a classic 50's style, two bar lounge and public (the Eddie Cochrane) bar. This last, so named after the 50's pop star who, involved in an RTA nearby, was taken to the close by hospital but unfortunately perished. Photo's and discs in his memory adorn the wall here. It's mostly a locals pub, who are affable enough, but, as in days of yore, travellers and visitors on 'The Trail' are made welcome. Be sure to connect with Jack, who seems, during the day, to do almost everything.

Carried on waiting then a waiter brings some food out then goes to a different table, Who arrived after us! We asked the waiter were our order was, He then went to check, Then came back to say the chef said we had had it, Went inside & asked for a refund, They said sorry but we are really busy! As for a place to go for a drink fine, just don't order food! As for the reply, We were not offered to have a refund with our meal! As I said was a lovely place for a drink!

We visited here a few years ago on a family holiday and my wife was keen to come back during a weekend trip. The welcome could not have been warmer, to the extent that on a damp, grey day we walked in to find roaring log fires, next to one of which was situated our table - what a treat! We were so tempted by the dessert menu that we skipped starters and went straight for fish mains. I had an exquisite seabass fillet which I'm afraid I rather wolfed down (it was so tasty!) and the others had lovely fish and chips. My wife commented how the batter was not too thick like it can be in some places. Two of us continued the 'damp winter day' theme with a gorgeous warming crumble and custard and my daughter had the brownie - all really lovely. We got a free coffee for completing a feedback card and also a 10% discount with my NHS staff card. The day we visited there was a leak in the entrance way ceiling but it did not detract from a really enjoyable visit - thanks Maxine and Clive!

The Rising Sun is under new ownership and I’m pleased to see it seems on the way back to its former glory. The pub is undergoing some much needed renovations. We had a really good meal there and very enjoyable evening, the menu isn’t huge but what was on offer cooked well and very good quality. All washed down with an equally good bottle of Malbec.

I’ve never written a review before, but here I am. We had a Sunday roast lunch booked for 3:30pm, we walked in and the place had a strange vibe to it as some tables were empty with plates etc still on, few tables busy but no one eating - and bar staff just polishing glasses. Lady behind the bar pointed to our table reluctantly after looking through the list of bookings, we then sat down. We stayed sat down for 15/20 minutes and no one had come over to clean it, give us a menu, or even ask us if we’d like a drink. At this point, I stood up and went to the bar, I explained the situation to the lady behind the bar who was what I’d describe as unhelpful and rude. She shrugged her shoulders, never apologised, suggested we move table and I wait for the manager. This lack of attentiveness and care really shone a bad light on this place for me as a new customer. We left the pub after no sign of a manager or further care, only to search the city looking for a roast somewhere else. I will never be returning.

Worst cafe experience I’ve ever had due to the rude and hostile manageress. While discussing the extortionate price of an item one of the other staff members started sniggering. There are ways to be empathetic to customers and appreciate their views without being rude and shutting them down. She told me to leave and write a review. Two slices of standard white bread and butter is £4.95 whether or not you have jam/marmalade. I actually left this cafe crying in front of my young daughter with the toast buttered and shoved in a box. I appreciate prices, but you should be allowed to disagree and discuss how much something is worth without being made to feel like you’re doing something wrong. Although she is the manger she said she doesn’t set the prices and wouldn’t give me the name of who does. Obviously avoiding this place from now on.
