Unless we were overcharged £9.90 is extremely expensive for a pint of IPA and a half of lager. Won’t be rushing back in a hurry.

I don't like writing poor reviews but sadly this experience did not live up to expectations. The front of house lady was charming and helpful. Only Sunday roast was available which would have been okay if it had been cooked well. The beef was tough and dry, the roast potatoes over done and veg soggy. The vegetarian 'no nut loaf' was uninspiring. A good chef would not have allowed the food to be served.

Really great pub. Delicious Sunday lunch and coffee. Staff extremely friendly. I would advise that you phone the pub directly to book. Don't use online service!!!

Lovely pub - although a little difficult to find (we don’t know this area!) One sign post from the main road but preserved and we got there! Had a gorgeous meal, just the right amount without leaving anything on our plates. Hats off to the chef😊 Bar staff extremely polite and courteous. I stayed at the Rising Sun Inn on New Years Eve and New Years Day nights, going on a local walk through the Quantock Hills. The rooms was very comfortable with all the needed amenities. The Pub was fantastic with great food, drink and a lively 'buzz'. The food was excellent and the service amazing - returning from a walk in the middle of stormy weather, the Manager, Andy, was very happy to have the chef prepare food after the kitchen closed. Very much appreciated! I will definitely stay again.

A group of six of us went there last night for a special Christmas evening meal. The food was absolutely fantastic. Huge portions !😉 expertly delivered by the lovely waitresses. The pub was buzzing, very atmospheric. The landlord seems to be making it a go to place to have a drink and food.

We stayed here for a night recently and made the most of the accommodation by having dinner and breakfast. We also took our two dogs as the whole place is dog friendly. The accommodation is clean and comfortable with plenty of tea/coffee as well as other small snacks. Bathroom accessories good too. We also thought the value of the rooms was very good. Dinner was excellent! Lovely big juicy chicken wings to start, and the fish I had as a main was cooked so well. My Husband had Blade of Beef and literally every table that had it was complimentary about this dish to the waiting staff. We carried on with deserts and for what we had thought the whole meal was very good value. Staff all friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was a bit average with not a lot of choice as we were simply asked “is there anything you don’t like” and then 5 minutes later had a full English put in front of us 😊. Not a problem though. We Would definitely return and recommend overall!

It seems to have changed hands from the last time we visited and it is plain to see . The place was nowhere near as busy as it has been in previous times - we booked because it used to be packed, but I think we probably didn’t need to. Whilst the staff were very friendly, it did feel a little disorganised. The menu choice was a little limited and the specials board only had two options, both of which were meat and one of us is a vegetarian. Food was okay, definitely not bad, but nothing special and not a patch on previous meals we’ve had here. No steak knife provided for steak and only half a mushroom ? And the mac and cheese option was not much better than you’d do at home, with one half of a brioche roll as the “garlic bread” and only a handful of lettuce leaves on the side , rather than a proper salad accompaniment. Very disappointing. The beer, wine and friendly staff were good though . But the food and menu wasn’t good enough to entice us back for dinner again.

The amazing food cooked by Kane was epic. We had a fabulous Sunday roast that was so good we came back today Thursday, for his chicken curry with homemade (his mum’s recipe) onion Bhaji’s, poppadoms and Naan bread . Then just had to try his chocolate brownies today as his Eton Mess on Sunday was The best with decent size pieces of meringue . Verry happy punters here today 😋😋😋

We booked in for a meal with friends this evening at a pub we have all found super in the past but received such poor service we won’t be visiting again. The table was booked for 4 but set for 6. 1 menu given to us to share as they were apparently so busy there weren’t any more although the couple that arrived afterwards had 1 each . The menu was so limited we asked whether there were any specials or anything else - given a very abrupt response of ‘no, too busy. After sometime 2 meals arrived, 1 was correct the other taken away. The other 3 meals took forever to arrive by the time the first was finished. No apologies given. We were all made to feel very unwelcome and no effort made to change this view . The food itself was good but sadly let down by appalling service

Every so often you stumble on a hidden gem and that is what we found at the Rising Sun. We are on a family holiday where we wanted to book a late Sunday lunch and the Rising Sun was nearby. They were very accommodating when booking for a late afternoon Sunday lunch. On arrival we were given a choice of where we could sit and we chose the snug where we all sat and the children sat together in an alcove setting like a cave. We all chose the mushrooms on sourdough bread as a starter, five of us chose beef, three turkey and one pork as main courses. I can honestly say this was the best Sunday lunch I can remember having, great quality and reasonably priced. Drinks were not overpriced either. The service was great, nothing was too much trouble. I only wish we lived closer so we could visit more regularly. This was the view of everybody and we cannot recommend the Rising Sun highly enough.

We used to visit this pub very regularly and have had many family functions over the years so this is not a review having only visited once. We understand that there are new owners and it takes time to settle in. However, they are going to go out of business as sure as night follows day unless they up their game - and quickly. We booked for Sunday lunch and chose the Turkey option. When it arrived it was clearly slices of turkey meat bought pre-sliced from a supermarket and heated up. The rest of the meal was fine with nice roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, mixed vegetables and extra gravy. The waiting staff need to be trained in how to serve because you do not ask your guests if they want a dessert at the same time as ordering their main course. They were pleasant enough but the worse thing about this visit is that the pub needs a really good clean. The best example of this is that they have obviously purchased all the fixtures and fittings from the previous owners. Look up to the ceiling and you'll see those 'soundproofing' clouds which are absolutely black with months of dust. That is unacceptable when it's hanging over your table. We wish them well in this new venture but they need to improve if we're going to recommend them or go back because it's just average at the moment. Sorry!

We always love going to The Rising Sun, and find Amanda and team first class. On our last visit, we found the service to be excellent which is what you would expect in such a fine establishment. Nearly £80 for a meal for 2 with main course only, no starters, no pudding or coffee even with a couple of drinks was a lot. I know the Quantocks is an expensive area but we were surprised when the bill arrived. No issues with the food or service.

Having read the recent review from a hen party group, I am left wondering if they attended the same pub/restaurant as our family of ten. For us the experience was first class. The young people who served us were bright, welcoming and extremely professional. The food was exceptionally good, fresh, hot and very tasty. As for waiting, one would expect too when the food is prepared fresh on the premises. To get group meals out together, when each meal is prepared fresh, must be an extremely difficult task for a chef. Ours coped brillaintly and compliments were sent to the kitchen. We would definately go again. Well done to the chefs and waiting staff. You deserve some credit and keep smiling.

Lovely little place but 2nd time in row the portions not make sense. 5! people get the same amount of vegetables and cauliflour cheese as a table of 2! And so we asked for a new set of vegetables and got some brocoli about 20 mins after we finished our roast dinner. So one of our group ordered a second roast dinner as he was so hungry and didn't get his vegetables a until 15 mins after he ate that dinner and that portion of vegetables was the same size as per served for 5 original dinners! We thought it was a fluke on mother's day as short of food but this time thet were not busy.it would not be so bad if they could get timing right but when you ask for more vegetables your looked at as if you are an alien! So if you like tasty food but only want 3 small potatoes and enough vegetables for a small rabbit then this is an ideal place for you.
