Almost certainly the best Sunday lunch I have ever had outside of home. Well cooked and well presented with a great choice of veggies (including red cabbage and sweet potato) along with very succulent and tender chicken. Sticky toffee pudding was light and 'melt-in-the-mouth'. Great service with cheerful and really helpful staff. All together a lovely dining experience. What more could one ask for?

Have not been to this pub for a while and I’m happy to say it is as good as I remember it. Yeah it’s not a cheap place to drink or eat I had the house red wine and I must say it was lovely , I went for the prawn cocktail and 4 meat roast , loads of food for your money a cosy pub and a lovely outdoor garden for kids. I will definitely come back before Christmas and maybe have a late sitting for Sunday lunch so it gets dark outside I just love the atmosphere this pub brings. To the owners keep doing what your doing. Only negative is I did not get any crackling but I can also understand this might not always be possible. Very friendly staff especially a young gentleman with curly dark hair he really gave an added touch to the service and experience.

Superb meal, superb attentive staff, a great venue and highly highly recommended. The Sunday mixed meat was incredible, very tender. The potatoes were as they should not reheated as in other places.

Just had a fantastic meal at The Rising Sun with my partner Pete for our anniversary. The Pan seared duck breast was cooked to perfection and Pete really enjoyed his fish and chips. Natalie and Nigel added the perfect finishing touches by providing a lovely balloon and anniversary card. I would highly recommend this hidden gem.

Wonderful pub with most amazing garden to sit and enjoy a drink on a sunny afternoon. All of the staff were so attentive throughout our visit - we received the warmest of welcomes from landlady Natalie behind the bar and had a nice chat with landlord Nigel out in the garden too! A great example of how a pub should be run! Can’t wait to visit again.

For those who remember the good old days, this traditional English Pub offers truly delicious “pub grub”. Family friendly with a large beer garden, cask ales and excellent service. An establishment that caters for everyone and feels very inclusive. Hertfordshire’s best kept secret. 10/10

We chose the Rising Sun to host our wedding reception. The beautiful garden and marquee space seemed exactly what we'd been looking for. We had use of the marquee, and we were allowed to hire the whole of the garden too. We had barbecue for lunch and an evening buffet. To be fair, as it was my wedding, most of its blur as it flew by so fast, but it was an amazing blur! The food was delicious, the staff were amazing and looked after us so well. They are a credit to Natalie and her team. I was really nervous about being the bride, but I had a fantastic afternoon sitting chatting with froends in a pub gatden...exactly the relaxed vibe I had wanted. We've had so many comments from friends and family saying what an amazing time they had and that it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to. Thank you all! I can't recommend you as a celebration option enough!

Rude bar staff and landlady! Me and my wife went for a quiet evening drink and got rudely shouted at from who i presume to be the landlady when i could not hear what a member of staff asked me which we both found surprising! On ordering our drinks, the landlady even went on to correct the way i pronounced the drink in which i requested. I will not be spending my hard earned money in an establishment who treats there customers like school children. DO NOT VISIT!

Well, where do I start??? My partner and myself found The Rising Sun via a app called BritStop. We where traveling to Hertford and though it would be great to stopover with a our campervan "Casper - because he is white and small" here for the night. The pub is absolutely perfect and how we love country pub. The staff couldn't be anymore friendly and the patron where exactly the same. Our campervan water carrier had a little leak and Natalie the Landlady offered to dry my partners clothes which is above and beyond what we would ever expect. The food and drink, we could not fault and tasted amazing. We HIGHLY recommend eating, drink or even if you use The Rising Sun as a BritStop stopover. Bleed'in loved the pub. :)

The food is exceptional, all cooked fresh, well kept ales, attentive professional staff and management.Great garden in the warmer months and a lovely roaring fire in the colder times of the year. A wonderful place over Christmas, beautiful decorations and a menu offering an excellent array of dishes. They normally have a selection of mouth watering specials throughout the year. The portions and quality makes other local pubs looking inferior and overpriced. We will be back many more times.

A lovely pub in a country setting that does great food that is so very well presented. For my own reviewing scale i reserve five stars for top of the range cuisine, where the food is a sensory experience. This is good, no nonsense food, such as chicken ham and leek pie or lasagne, but it is prepared with great care, and very beautifully presented, and so merits the top possible marks I can give of four out of five. The staff were friendly and full of good humour and had mastered perfectly the balance of being attentive, whilst also leaving us to enjoy our food. The bill came in extremely reasonably for three courses, drinks and coffee, and I have no hesitation in recommending The Rising Sun to others. As a side note, the humble chip is often maligned, but I think it speaks volumes when I say that the crisp, light and fluffy perfection that I ate today could light a fire under some of the high end frites that I have eaten elsewhere, which just shows that The Rising Sun has a kitchen staff that cares about detail and getting it right.

This has been one of our favourite pubs for years; is great for food and in a lovely, rural location. This weekend we had our wedding reception in the pub's own marquee in the garden. Natalie and Nigel and their wedding host Geri did an amazing job to make sure our day ran without a hitch. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and we couldn't have wished for anything more. The garden is beautiful, with ambient lighting and play equipment for children. The pub itself is quintessentially British and just a pleasure to visit. Thoroughly recommended.

Arrived 6.30pm just before a large ladies group so we were anxious to place our order quickly, which we did. We both ordered from the small Specials menu and enjoyed every mouthful of pork tenderloin with new potatoes and home made coleslaw and salmon with a crispy bake coating with veg..The helpings were substantial for us 'smaller appetite pensioners' but both dishes were well cooked and served well. They must be home cooked as it took over 30 minutes to arrive. We will return. There was plenty of outdoor seating as well as a marquee to sit in.

On arrival at this pub we asked for an allergy menu due to one of our party having an allergy to mustard. We were told there was no allergy menu in existence so they would have to check with the chef. We placed our order and it was delivered some time later containing mayonnaise in the burger and a big dollop of coleslaw on the side. Waiting staff were asked about the mayonnaise and coleslaw to which they stated the mayonnaise was fine as its vegan but they didn't know about the coleslaw. 2 minutes later the waitress came back and said "thank god you didn't eat that as the coleslaw has got mustard in it"The plate was taken away and put on a new plate without the coleslaw (not freshly prepared!!)This is extremely poor and could have resulted in a medical emergency!

I called and booked a reservation for this ‘gastro pub’ and was told they could barely fit us in yet when we arrived all bar 2 tables were empty. We were expected to seat ourselves and then had to wait around 25 minutes for our order to be taken. No drinks menu was provided during our visit. When the food arrived it was ok at best. Not once was our drinks order taken after the initial order except when I had to seek out a member of the waiting team, none of whom were following covid guidelines and frequently removed their masks. The landlady was abrasive when we had a question and seemed to have no time for her guests. When it came to paying we had to wait almost 10 minutes for our bill to be sorted out at which point unexplained charges has been added which were never explained to us, This struck us as strange but instead of argue with the rude staff we decided to pay without a query at which point we were told we had underpaid and more money was taken from us which after multiple calculations was not owed to the restaurant. This was a abhorrent experience which I would not wish upon my worst enemy.

Waiter service was ok but waiter was a bit shaky, maybe lost his carrying skills a bit during lockdown?! I’ll start off by saying I am diabetic and therefore very cautious in going out and about eating. Not a problem at this pub though. One way system through the pub, plenty of hand sanitiser about, large pub garden and all staff are masked too. It’s nice to be out and enjoy a pub lunch without worrying you are taking a risk. Food was excellent,I had chilli beef nachos to start (nachos were home made), chilli had a decent heat but not too hot with home made sour cream followed by the halloumi burger which had a chipotle mayonnaise (it was lovely). We visited the pub to support them after the covid 19 lockdown. We were very warmly greeted by staff (wearing personal protective equipment) and were informed about the new one way system in place which reduces contact within the pub. The pub has also installed hand sanitiser stations in various locations which all customers were encouraged to use. The tables had been rearranged to accommodate social distancing for diners. The menu was reduced but still had many delicious options to choose from. Our party chose the Rising Sun Burgers and Chili Con Carne, with Crumble and (new) Cheesecake desserts. A single menu was provided to the table with an ordering sheet - this was a welcomed and innovative approach to taking our order. The food was delicious as always and we were very well cared for by all the staff who served us. We were very impressed with how the pub has reopened during these unprecedented times, we will all be returning to support the wonderful pub - and enjoy its wonderful food. We went to this superb pub on 4/7/20 - the first day of opening after lockdown for such a long time. We were the first through the doors and were so impressed with the procedures they had put in place to reduce the spread of the COVID 19 virus. All the staff had masks on, there was a one way system in place and the wonderful conservatory had a reduced number of tables so customers had well in excess of 2m between tables. There was a huge number of tables outside in the lovely garden and a bar had been set up under a marquee (sadly the weather was not conducive to outside eating!) The main bar inside remained the same but all orders including drinks were done via the staff from you r table. There were hand sanitisers at various locations. The menu was written on a sheet of paper that you filled in and was collected by the staff. A great idea. It said there was a reduced selection but we couldn’t see what was missing! As expected the food and beer (my first pint in over 3 months - McMullen AK - superb) were of the usual excellent standard. Steak, red wine and shallot pie with herb potatoes and veg along with my wife’s scampi and chips.I cannot speak too highly of this little gem. If you haven’t been then now is the time to go. They deserve all the support we can give them. Book by phone first to leave contact and trace details. We could not think of anything more they could have done to reassure the public in these strange times! Well done The Rising Sun

Lovely log fire and warm welcome at this traditional country pub for Sunday lunch. Attentive but not intrusive waitresses serve your choice of roast and several vegetables in separate dishes so no off-putting mountain topped by gigantic Yorkshire pudding which is fast becoming the norm these days. Wide choice of desserts and good coffee. It’s possible to eat in the bar but I advise booking a table in the separate pleasant dining room as the fire can make the bar a bit too warm!! Even on a frosty January day.

This property is fairly isolated and right on the far edge of Weston. Due to the time of year, the lateness of the booking and we were a largish party we found that our usual establishments were booked up, however we managed to book here. The staff were very efficient and helpful but some of the food was disappointing. Having had various Xmas dinners we decided to have the scampi as a main course. I have to say the scampi was best described as rubbery, the chips nondescript and some in the party had roast Beef or should I say fat with some meat, not very satisfactory. Others had the turkey roast which was apparently fine. The seafood as a starter was ok but I would say pretty standard. Not sure I would want to return especially as there are a plethora of good quality places around the area.

We came to the rising sun on a Saturday lunch as 4 adult friends and 2 children. The pub garden is good for children with swings and a slide. They are pet friendly and the children had a good time. In terms of the food we ordered late (last orders 1415 and we ordered at 1400). Service though was slow particularly with very few patrons, it was very friendly though. The chicken burger was nice, the chips though were pretty average. I went for the pie special (chicken, ham and leek). The pastry was cooked very well and the filing was plentiful although the chicken was to big and could have been cut up more. The veg was to al dente for my taste. All in all at circa £11 to £13 per main course I thought it was a little pricy. They have a good selection of beers and wines at pretty standard prices for the south east.

we visited this as a party of 6 women for our annual get together - the food was good when it arrived but there was a long wait for every course, this was not our first visit there as the food and price is always of a good standard

We booked a table for 7pm. Even though the restaurant was only half full it took 45 minutes before 2 starters were brought to our table . Eventually we got our mains at 8.45 !!! Other diners were also wondering where their food was . We were offered no explanation or apologies when the meals came out . The food was lovely, well cooked, hot . A shame the service wasn’t at all good. I would think twice about going again .

The Rising Sun hosted our end of season dinner for 30+ diners. The communication and organisation prior to the vent by Natalie was excellent and the evening went without a hitch. The set food menu choices were varied and of a high quality. The food was well-cooked, delicious and served piping hot. The service was exceptional with everyone being served simultaneously. The venue is ideal for this type of large group with the perfect atmosphere. Every one enjoyed themselves and thought it good value for money. We will return next year.

Live Locally. This is the best Sunday Roast in the area. The food is always served piping hot. The meat is always tender and there are plenty of vegetables including a delicious cauliflower cheese. The gravy is homemade and particularly tasty. The staff are very efficient and the atmosphere is very welcoming.

Following couple of evening meals which were Absolutely wonderful we had a few friends round and we all went for a Prebooked Sunday lunch . We were not disappointed, again this lovely friendly country pub surpassed every expectation. We all came home absolutely full of lovely food that was cooked to order not kept ready and microwaved.

I had searched for a "child friendly" restaurant and the Rising Sun was exceptional for this. There was a highchair provided, toys to borrow and the staff could not have been more accommodating! There is also a children's play area outside.

So very silly as nice day decided to set off with dogs and 8 year old to Halls Green for lunch, only checking website and not checking by phone if open or not for lunch. When we got there there was a function in full swing and very busy. Worried no food after long walk and 8 year old starving. After asking nicely if any chance the pub was more than welcoming and above and beyond to get us fed. Much to 8 year olds delighted as she has firmly decided that the Rising Sun does the best homemade chicken nuggets ever. Dogs chuffed as spoilt with treats. My partner and I extremely happy with our lovely lunch. Thanks Rising Sun.

Only popped for a couple of pints, and was impressed with what we found. Local ales are lovely, the staff warm and friendly, and the food being served looked and smelt divine! The crackling fire, chilled acoustic music being softly played, and funny little quirks in the decor made a very comfortable pub to comfort and relax in. If we ever find our way in this area again, we'll definitely come back.

This was a great choice. We met as an NCT group six years on with our children and siblings. We were given the conservatory the Saturday before Xmas. The food was great, we were given plenty of room, the kids played outside between courses and we had wonderful service. I thought we may be moved on some two hours later but we stayed some 3-4 hours. This was a great venue with us coming from as far as Birmingham and Berlin. Thank you and we will be back!

This is a great pub for Sunday lunch in the garden on a hot summer's day. Thankfully though, it was not the hottest day that there has been this year.

The awful treatment with staff has disgusted me, they will not be having any of my money. Forcing management out of their home within 24 hours is disgusting. Letting go of staff that have worked there for no reason, is unacceptable. Saying how they don’t have enough hours for them to work yet hire multiple new staff. You make me sick. Treat staff correctly and business thrives.

Visited with friends for pre Christmas lunch. The service was slow and impersonal. We waited ……. and waited for our orders to be taken and for food service and for further service for drinks and coffee My salt and pepper calamari starter was tepid at best and was absent any hint of salt or pepper. Mains were ok but coffee was again tepid, all an indication the these items had been hanging around in the kitchen waiting for delivery to our table In all a two course lunch and coffee for four people took more than 3-hours Clearly more staff with more experience are needed to service the restaurant if things are to improve to an acceptable standard
