Absolutely superb food orientated pub hidden a short distance from the city centre. We enjoyed complimentary homemade bread with chicken gravy and butter. Main course of cod, one with a bisque sauce and the other with pickled mussels. Also enjoyed fantastic pineapple and pain-aux-raisin and chocolate deserts. Took our dog and we were accommodated in the Adit bar which was very comfortable. Nice friendly service.

If you're visiting Truro, don't leave without eating and drinking at The Rising Sun. The award-winning cuisine should impress you, as well as the great range of quality beers and wines on offer. It's all served very professionally in a welcoming and historic atmosphere. If you live in Cornwall, you should already know how good it is!

A celebration meal but portions were extremely small , disappointing and expensive . We were sat next to the only other table in the restaurant who spent their time eavesdropping when we could have had space , the music was much too loud for an empty restaurant and the Kitchen staff were very noisy at 9.30 pm . One glass of wine was “off” . Service good but I won’t be returning for a long time !

I just had an amazing Sunday Roast at The Rising Sun. I'd heard really good reports about their roasts and I wasn't disappointed. It tasted absolutely delicious, was cooked to perfection and portions were very generous. The staff were all warm and welcoming so it was a thoroughly pleasant experience and I'll definitely be going back for more.

A nice meal, I had catch of the day with fondant potato, which happened to be hake. It was very nice, service was good, arrived quick enough. Only reason it's 4 star not 5 is that the portion was too small for the price charged. The hake portion was very small, and the meal wasn't rich enough to get away with such a small amount. The duck on the other hand seemed to be a decent portion. The panacotta was very good.

I had Sunday lunch here, and I have to say, it is in the top 5 of my all-time Sunday lunches! At 55 years old, I've had one or two over the years. Everything about it was really good. Roast potatoes were crunchy and tasty. Seasonal veg including red cabbage and swede cooked perfectly. I ordered extra cauliflower cheese, which is actually the best I've ever eaten ( please, god, don't let my daughter read this review! Hers was the best!!). And there was plenty of gravey and an extra pot of hot cheese sauce. I had the pork, my good lady had the lamb. We were both very happy. We paid £19 which I thought was worth every penny. All the staff are very helpful and chatty which made lunch even more enjoyable. I know where I will be visiting for other meals next time I visit Truro. Thank-you "The Rising sun". 🙏🙏🙏

The food and service was out of this world Be warned, the roast dinner portion sizes are made for lions not men. The meal was huge. Clear out space in your diary for the carb coma that will ensue after feasting upon this culinary perfection 👌 Amazing service which felt genuine, and every effort was made to make my girlfriends birthday special. They even gave her a birthday box of cake bites at the end. Incredible evening. 5 stars isn't enough they deserve 10

We went for our son's 21, booking on line as the pub failed to ring back after I left a message, asking about vegan options. I should've taken that as an omen. No vegan options, not even sure the Wellington was vegetarian as everyone appeared to have the same gravy. Service and kitchen slow, food tasty enough but only just warm not hot. Puddings disappointing. Creme brulee wasn't set and sloppy custard really with a cold, hard sugar crust. Our son usually gets excited about chocolate cake, but was underwhelmed. Puddings would've been better served in china crockery rather than cast iron skillets.

Food was good but the experience terrible. We booked for Sunday roast at 8pm. We arrived 40 minutes earlier and we’re asked to sit at the bar as apparently the table was not ready yet. We could see the room was almost empty but got a drink but obviously waited as allegedly they prepared the table for us. The disappointment started as in the meantime 8 people arrived and were seated straight away. We were given a table only after all the other guest ordered, after a 45 minutes from our arrival. Here the fun begins: It took us a good 15 minutes to order and only then we found out all the roasts were sold out. We settled for 2 starters and a fish chips from the kids menu, asking to make a larger portion. After one hour of wait we only received a poached egg with a few asparagus as our starter. The rest of our order arrived a good 40 minutes later and needless to say the fish and chips was definitely not a larger portion. The young man serving us apologized multiple times and he was very kind, tried to make up for the long wait giving our 2 beers and bottle of water for free. Nevertheless the experience was definitely not up to the standard and we were very disappointed. Whilst we were waiting we inevitably saw all the roasts that apparently were finished coming of the kitchen heading straight for the tables that arrived after us. Hopefully it was just bad timing and misfortune and not an orchestrated act to serve “locals” first rather than us tourists. But it definitely looked like it. (We had 2 pints, one poached egg, one risotto and a kid’s fish and chips for £52) Book for a very early table of you’re planning to go…

This place is very popular and well liked in Truro. My review is marked this way because the offerings for vegetarians isn’t great and for vegans, literally non-existent. I took my wife here for an occasion recently and informed the establishment in advance that a vegan would be coming. What passed for vegan was a few select vegetables from their Sunday roast, served on a plate, for which we were charged nearly 20 quid. Even the bread wasn’t vegan! To compound this, the servers tried to convince us that several dishes were vegan. They weren’t. It’s 2024 and it astounds me that in a country with 6%+ of the population now vegan, that places still studiously refuse to cater for them.

Best meal we have had in a long long time. The reviews which complain about poor service and long waits for food need to understand that if you want quick food then this is not the place for you. If however, you want local produce beautifully cooked and presented superbly then you have to be patient and you will be rewarded. It isnt cheap but this reflects the time and skill that the kitchen invests in the food presented. We expected a lot from the reviews we had read and it beat our expectations. well done Rising Sun.

Service was slow, we waited a long time for drinks and for our plates to be taken away. When food was brought to the table we weren't given a spoon to dish out our vegetables or a teaspoon with coffees. The service provided was good overall but a bit slow. The food was okay the roast was nice but the desserts weren't for us which was sad because we've previously loved it here.

Quite disappointing. Waited 15 minutes to get our menus, which we had to get ourselves as the waiter didn't bring them over to us. Service was poor throughout the night. Food was of decent quality, steak had good flavour but was not seasoned otherwise. At the end of service we asked for food to be boxed up but it never came back to us. For the price you are paying, better service should be expected, disappointing.

A very lovely setting for a fantastic roast. The food was wonderfully cooked, the lamb was lovely and tender. Swede was lovely and sweet. Mixed vegetables were delicious and with the cheese sauce separate was a nice touch. Everyone cleared their plates, can't say enough good things about the food. Service could be improved with having a regular drinks list, nothing on the table detailing what other choices were available aside from asking for the Wine list. One of the orders was taken down wrong, we think they were new but just stating as a matter of honesty. Aside from that, definitely THE best roast dinner I have gone out for in a looooong time l, and I do like to eat out so thank you for that and it is highly recommended.

Save for a couple of folk drinking at the bar, we were one of two parties dining this evening. Booking was followed up by two phone calls asking for my email address for a menu that eventually arrived the day before the deadline to order. I’m not a fan of pre-ordering, and how do you pre-order the catch of the day!? I eventually had to chase them to pay a deposit because the relevant email didn’t arrive. The artichoke velouté was delicious - properly so. Pate and baked Camembert were disappointing. The main courses weren’t good at all. Roast beef and turkey were dry, gravy (same for both meats!) was bitter, over salted, flabby yorkshires. Really disappointed. I didn’t want to come in the first place having had a rather lacklustre dinner a couple of years ago, but it was Mum’s boyfriend insisting we came for her birthday - I had originally booked Culture in Falmouth but bowed to pressure. I’m sorry I did. Whilst the service was superb, the food wasn’t. No wonder they wanted deposits. Not everyone wants a full roast on a Saturday evening… £300 for 5 with drinks. Pre-ordering sucks especially when the place is dead! It’s December on a Saturday night!? Maybe there’s a reason. Menu options were limited. End result was just bad. But lovely staff who were extremely attentive. So big love for that. Even so, I won’t be going again.

it was lovely, but, based on recent accolades, not quite as good as we'd hoped. we had the sunday roast. the beef was perfect - tender and melting. the york pud was fresh and fluffy. the green veg were good, cooked right. the potatoes were average. the parsnips were hard and, realistically inedible. the gravy was served already on the plate, and as the plates had not been sufficiently warmed, was soon cold. we were served a small jug of cheese sauce (to go with what, not quite sure) but neither mustard nor horseradish on offer. for a run-of-the-mill pub roast, i'd have been content but for a highly rated gastro-pub, it didn't quite meet expectations. but the wine list was fab!

Completely ignored on 2 occasions as we sat at the bar, finally got served and were told we could go to our table. Had the Sunday roast and we could not fault the food, it was delicious. Shame the service ended there, 20 minutes after finishing our food we were still waiting for our plates to be cleared and to be offered a dessert menu. The local couple 2 tables away (who were seated after us) were dealt with promptly and were enjoying their dessert when we decided to leave as we were blatantly being ignored. What was supposed to be an enjoyable birthday lunch was nothing short of a disappointment due entirely to the lack of customer service received.

Spectacular food in a historic pub. Portions were generous and the food was excellent, with seabass in caviar sauce being a standout dish for me personally. Service is very friendly and attentive, but I must call out that front of house just feels a little understaffed. Given the fair prices and general passion for delivering a good experience that is a minor issue and the gastropub is worth traveling to as we did.

I have been to the Rising Sun multiple times for drinks but last week finally we went there for a date night. We had a lovely seating. The service was outstanding. But the highlight was the food. It started with the outstanding parmesan and chorizo bread rolls which were so delicious. We then ordered the scallops for starters - which was fresh, and delicious. For mains, we had the duck and 10-hr lamb. Both were outstanding but we were in love with the lamb. For dessert, we went with the trifle. Each dish was delicious. We had tried multiple times to book a Sunday roast here but for our lack of prior planning, we thought a dinner would be a good idea and we were absolutely right!!

Visited on a Saturday night in October for a “special meal”. First customers into the restaurant. The waitress had a face like a slapped arse, the decor was like a scene from life on mars. Atmosphere non existant, music playing loudly in the background, could hardly hear each other speak. The menu choice on the evening was a set 3 course meal or something from the a la cart menu. We had already decided prior to visiting that we wouldn’t be having a sweet due to one of us being diabetic and the other with high cholesterol, so on a low fat diet. So it was a choice off the a la cart menu. Unfortunately we didn’t fancy much on that menu, eventually deciding on the monkfish. The fish was cooked perfectly but there was something smoked on the plate (covered in oil)? which ruined it for us. Having decided to visit here after reading previous posts, we were disappointed with the meal and restaurant.

What a great restaurant in the heart of Falmouth Cornwall. We've ordered a mixed grill from the menu and the meat was so tender and nicely marinated that it would melt in your mouth. One other thing was their homemade yogurt, which I have fallen in love with the unique taste as it reminds me of my childhood back home and my grandma's home-made yogurt.
