The Riding House Cafe in City of London, Westminster

I have been going to Riding House for few years now and it never disappoints. The brunch options are delicious and we were promptly served with a smiling staff.

Smart but easy going spot in Fitzrovia. Service is exfellent, great to see Ben, more like an old friend than staff

The hostess was lovely and friendly, the food and drink were outstanding. The service was a little slow and we constantly had to flag down our waiter to order more drinks. Table wasn’t checked on after the food order was taken and served either. That’s the only thing that let it down really.

Met a friend over lunch. Really nice place to meet and the tables and spacing are good. Food choice was varied. Food took a bit of time to arrive and was adequate. We would go again for a meet up, yet the ambience was a little too loud for us.

An underwhelming experience. Forgettable. Bland, under-seasoned food. The bloody mary's were excellent! Service from 2 of the waiters was ok, if a bit slow, and with a few mistakes. A couple of items were left off the breakfast, and had to be requested. We struggled to get water to the table. And then there was a billing mistake. Other waiting staff had totally checked out, delivering food to the table wordlessly, frowning, not even eye contact. We had our brunch and left without staying for coffees. Disappointing, I don't think we would return.

The hosts were really lovely and welcoming even on a busy shift. Just handling the overwhelming ambiance of the room they were able to gage with the customers at a pace. I like the fact that the servers filled tap water on our tables so it’s just there without having to ask for refills every time. Food was what healed the experience of the day, you can’t go wrong with that! Will deffo come again.

Disappointing - have visited many times for work and with friends but won’t be coming back. Poor inefficient service, wrong food arrived and was charged for, coffees and bill took hours to arrive. Food ungenerous and sides extortionate

I have always like RHC but was disappointed this time. The tempura broccoli was incredibly stodgy, the chips had nothing special at all about them - very tasteless. Could not taste the porcini salt. We were three diners and all the small dishes arrived with two portions so we had to reorder. The waiter had not thought to point this out when we were ordering. It just did not feel like a special food experience at all. Completely unmemorable. Shame, used to be one of my favourites.

First visit and enjoyed very much. We (two) combined the chestnut lentil and parsnip stew (delish) and fritters from the bowl section, lamb skewers and broccoli tempura from the skewers section accompanied by truffle Mac cheese. Washed down with a couple of glasses of wine to start (I hadn’t noticed the early - we were there at 5.30 - deal on cocktails. Next time) then a 500cl carafe of red. Loved the ambience. There was a big party nearby but no noise problem because of soft surfaces (other venues take note please!). Tables also well spaced. The service from Jagoda and Noman was exemplary. Very professional and friendly. Our only complaint was that some of the dishes were a bit tepid. I am sure that this would have been remedied if we had spoken up earlier but we were having a good time and anyway it was all very tasty. We will return soon.

We felt quite abandoned. Had to go looking for staff twice at one point. Such a shame. Used to be a really great place to go.

Everything pretty good. We wanted 2 tables together as a large party for a birthday celebration, which seemed far too much like hard work, even though we flagged at the time of the booking, a week before, on the day and then got there early - we kept being told not guaranteed. To be fair, the host did sort 2 tables together and then the atmosphere, service and food was fantastic. Would just encourage better service from the start eg before the actual day.

I’ll start with the positives. RHC is very nice and has lots of seating, the decor is lovely. The front of house lady was super friendly. Our server was also nice. The food was abhorrent. I ordered eggs royale, which had a very dry muffin, a miniature piece of salmon, 1 of my eggs was completely overcooked and there was about 1 tablespoon of hollaNadia’s sauce per egg. My friend had the regular ham version and it was about the same. Honestly, for the price, this was not worth it and I would take your money elsewhere.

Great service from Elizabeth at Fitzrovia branch yesterday Expensive food for what is was, chicken in a bun & cheap looking fries (are extra) for £21 Lovely wine but at £36 a bottle when it retails at £11.50. Nice enough place but wouldn’t rush back.

We had a lovely meal - food was all excellent and service was perfect - always someone there when needed.

We came for pancake day and the food was absolutely delicious. We didn’t go for the bottomless option as we knew we wouldn’t eat that many but the portions were more than enough.

I eat regularly at Riding house and the service/ambience/is always consistently good.

Lovely service, tasty food and nice setting for a relaxed brunch.

Artichoke dip was delicious. Schnitzel and burger good. Quinoa bowl with toppings very tasty. Lovely drinks. Service started well but got patchy as evening progressed, seemed understaffed, thought not busy. Trying but stretched. Perhaps seat people in one area if not enough team on shift.

There was nothing good about this place. Waited 50 minutes for one of two coffees. It arrived cold and spilt. Sent it back for it to come again with some additional warm milk top-up, not a new coffee. Strong performance. Second coffee was nowhere to be found. We suspected that the barista may have gone to Colombia to collect more beans. Second coffee arrived, also cold. Asked three times across two wait staff to speak to the manager. Manager arrived and advised that they’ve got a seating area of 100 people and that the coffees take time. Is that our problem? 50 minutes!? Food arrived cold. Manager is called back. Manager starts arguing and advised that the bread comes at room temperature. At a brunch cafe? Only room temp bread? It must’ve been some Harry Potter magic for the other meal to miraculously have come with toasted bread! Paid the bill at a discount. Lesson learned - don’t visit this place. But if you really must, bring your own toaster and coffee beans. I hope the barista enjoyed his trip to Colombia.

Great airy cafe, great food but service was awful. I hate leaving bad reviews but it was terrible.

A wonderful experience from the warm welcome from the serving staff. Good and interesting food, nice atmosphere and great mix of seating places. A little gem just off Oxford Circus. I will go back! A big thanks to the staff and especially the main waiter/manager for his friendly and efficient hospitality.

Delightful food, as always in this comfortable restaurant. One is never hurried and the waiting staff aff are attentive, if required. We had Masud K who was very polite. I did notice that you have increased your service charge to 13.5% which was not mentioned on the menu?

Lovely lunch at this very busy, lively venue, with its well thought out menu. Wines are all available by the 500ml carafe as well as the glass or the bottle, an unusual touch.

Not my first visit, neither my last! Great menu, fabulous food again and good service! Can definitely recommend the wonderful freshly made smoothies! If you want a relaxed breakfast or brunch with good ambience this is most certainly the place!

Service was absolutely awful, took 2.5 hours to be served two courses. No offer of dessert or coffee. Had to request bill three times before it came 20 minutes later. The fritter bowl base was bizarre - basically a pile of sweet potato crisps which you are supposed to put meat skewers on top of. Seated next to a big, very noisy group even though the restaurant was 75% empty. Poured our own wine and water top ups all night. Very, very disappointing and will not be returning.

I was sat on the high tables, waiting for a friend, next to a couple. Twice I told the waiter I was not part of that booking, but he didn’t listen - perhaps couldn’t hear - or didn’t understand - but I told him I was waiting for someone else to arrive, but he still tried to take my order when taking the order of the couple next to me. The pancakes tasted lovely, but there is no way it’s made fresh. It came out within 10minutea of ordering, and it was luke warm at best. It came with bacon, which was also luke warm, so if that bacon was fried fresh, and served as quickly as it was, it should've been piping hot.

Welcoming from the start, excellent service and general vibe to the restaurant was perfect. Menu was good but could have a few more choices to main courses, and the food wasn’t hot on arrival, although it was delicious !! Would totally recommend and will visit again for sure.

Items were missing from the meal and it arrived semi-warm. There were at least 6 scrambled eggs soaking a tiny piece of bread; it was really unappetising and I brought it to the attention of the waiter.

I'd eaten here some time ago and service wasn't great so I hadn't returned. Things have clearly changed. We had a nice welcome. The waiter wasn't very communicative - he simply took our orders and served them but that was ok. Salads were good.

Amazing food as always. Avocado on toast is an absolute favorite for my girls and I. Coffee however came late and not that hot (although I ordered it extra hot). Pancakes are always yummy too.

It is a cosy, comfortable spot with friendly staff and good coffee. However, service was very slow despite it not being busy. The food was pleasant but nothing special. A little overpriced for the portions and simplicity of the dishes.

Remarkably friendly staff (also very early in the morning) with attention to details such as my partners birthday and the atmosphere at the table. Choice of breakfast dishes is great and the dishes we ordered (Berry Pancakes and Vegetarian EB) were fantastic. The coffee was also of the best quality and since it was my partners birthday we got a birthday pancake for free. Exactly how you want to start into the birthday :)

I work on Great Titchfield Street, making the Riding House my place of choice when meeting friends and family. So whilst christmas shopping with my daughter, we made a b-line for the Riding House. We were greeted by the cool, friendly and welcoming Aaron at front of house, and once seated, we were left in the more than capable hands of the excellent Mariusz, who in turn kept us fed, watered and highly entertained. You can’t go wrong with the menu, the sea bass is superb, as is the truffle mac and cheese, but above all, make sure you leave room for the cinnamon donuts.

Lovely food, great service at a reasonable price, the free birthday pancake for my partner was a really nice touch.

We ordered our breakfast and drinks together, and when the food arrived about 30 minutes later, we still hadn't received our breakfast tea which seemed like the simplest thing to send quite soon after order. When the food arrived, Salmon Royale was tepid and only had one muffin with two eggs. A muffin has two halves! I was expecting four peices of bread not two. Disappointed in the drop in quality over the years I've been visiting this place.

Stuck next to the front door which was cold. They brought me the wrong order and by the time mine had arrived, those I was with had finished theirs and then they put extra meals on the bill that no one ordered

Checking in service was a mare, leading to a long line of frustrated diners. Their online ordering menu was inconsistent with their printed version and was confusing. When asked for help with it 2 members of staff independently said “it’s obviously a mistake” and we’ve repeatedly told our IT department but they haven’t bothered to ament it yet. Well it might be obvious to staff members but not to new customers. We definitely won’t be repeating this frustratingly disappointing experience.

I’ve been here many times before but sadly this was my least favourite visit. Drinks waitress seemed upset, quite surly and spilt the red wine over my friend’s menu and made no attempt to clear it up. The food was not hot on arrival and it took them nearly 25 minutes to make 4 Irish coffees, which we’re not to my taste and very bitter. It wasn’t a complete disaster, other staff very nice and food tasty, just not what I expected from previous visits.

I wish I could say better things about the Riding House Fitzrovia...but I can't. For sure the location is great and the atmosphere is to my taste. Yes, it can be a bit noisy, but hey, this is central London. The problem is - and always has been - the food. Every time I go I say to myself 'I'm sure they'll have fixed the food by now'. But lo-and behold...they never seem to. Yesterday I met a colleague for breakfast there and the experience was pretty dire. The coffee was luke-warm. The scrambled eggs where old and tasted like powdered eggs, the bread underneath the eggs was cold and wet, the grilled tomatoes were cold and, worst of all, the bacon must have been cooked days before. No joke. There is NO WAY that bacon was made then and there. The saving grace was that our sever was extremely nice and charged us only for our drinks. It was a very courteous thing of her to do. But really guys....you are a restaurant charging 60 quid for two people to have breakfast. How hard is it to make it hot, fresh and good???
