At first I thought good value for a month in their accommodation upstairs; £550 despite the TV being broken, traces of somebody entering my room while I am at work,no cleaning before I initially came. I am particular about hygeine and cleanliness so I wiped every surface, my wipes were soiled. Random black socks and rubbish under the bed. The only thing I appreciated was nice temperature water to shower and wash my hair. However from the 15th-22nd September, the water has been freezing. I have enquired about it numerous times to no avail. No heating either when it is cold. I have now caught a terrible fever. No offer of compensation has been made thus legal advice will be sought.

Just visited the Retreat for a Sunday roast with our family and it was superb. Everything about the roast dinner was perfect and the portions were very generous. All of the staff were friendly and professional. It was also very good value for money at only £11.50 for the standard roast dinner. We will definitely be going back again!

5/5 the retreat stowupland Ip144ag , famed for authentic Thai food, and boy was it,this is not a fast food outlet, they describe themselves as bespoke cooking and it's fabulous, to add they do an 8 dish buffet first Monday of the month, they set the barre high,to add I stay there over the week family visit, so I experience there Sunday roast nothing less than fresh home made yorkies sensibly priced well supported £11.50, but the Thai food was exceptional, pad Thai Tom yam goom pad ka prow and more, just like you find in Thailand, sauces all Made to order as I said not a fast food outlet need to book you get 100%

During the pandemic, once the Retreat was opened, we visited it. It was fine. Although the noise level from their own 'music machine' was unpleasant they turned it down on request. Unfortunately, once everything was back to normal they again let in the football boozers. Our last visit was a shock to the system. We entered the pub to be blasted by an unfiltered scream of football madness. Clearly the people in charge had no concern about the noise level - so we left immediately. Until they get a grip on maintaining a decent place for family and others to meet, it isn't going to work. We walked half-a-mile to the alternative and were able to sit down for a quiet pint or two. Please Retreat - get your act together and maintain some level of noise control!

Delicious Thai food! We have ordered Thai food a few times during lock down and recently had dinner at the pub. The Thai food is so delicious. Our favourite is the chicken wings. They are by far the best wings I’ve ever had. We will definitely be regulars.

We have sadly had to stop going to the Retreat. My friend and I had been going fairly regularly over the weekends. The food is fine but the noise had become appalling. With very loud music piped everywhere and tvs on as well, the noise of loud-mouthed intoxicated men at the bar was supplemented with screaming children that were left freely running around finally turned us away.

My wife and I live locally and heard of the excellent Thai food we have visited Thailand 3 times and love the country and its food so we thought we'd pay them a visit, we took 4 of our grandchildren for lunch and a play around as it was nice day. Let me start by saying that we sat outside so we could watch the children so I can not comment on the inside of the Retreat, my wife and I ordered Thai food because of our love of it and boy it was brilliant couldn't fault it we will certainly go back to try other dishes the green curry was spot on.the children just had chips but they were hot, crisp and dry not soggy so they loved and enjoyed them.the children loved the space to run around it was time for us to leave but what prompted us to leave was when one of the local drinkers decided to take his dog for a walk around the children's play area and go to the toilet this is totally unacceptable towards health and safety towards children, if you the landlord is not aware of this please take it on board and stop it , you offer a children's play area and that is only what it should be, NOT a dogs toilet area that included your own family as they joined in playing with us.

I almost don’t want to tell people about this place. It’s under new management and the food is absolutely second to none. Thai food is better then my favorite takeaway and the steak was cooked to perfection and lovely quality. I’m so pleased I live so close. Laura

So, we love Thai food, my partner loves spice and I love the freshness compared to chinese and being able to tweak the dishes because I have crohns but hate missing out on anything! So we heard The Retreat was under new management, an English gent, Steve and his Thai wife, Eiw (pronounced you). After a nice chat, explaining my boring tummy troubles, I was recommended Phad Thai, without the nuts, and it was so delicious, really enjoyed it. My spice loving other half had the green curry, a firm favourite of his on our many visits to other Thai restaurants. But he had a slightly different experience as he had never had Thai egg plant fruit in his Thai curry before and was blown away. After a chat to Steve, Eiw was busy in the kitchen, and asking about it, we learnt that it was expensive but very authentic and his wife wouldn't cook without it as she wants to dish up meals that she would be pleased to cook for her own family back in Thailand. To say we were blown away with the authenticity is an understatement and a very pleasant surprise. If you love Thai, and like us, haven't been lucky enough to get to Thailand, please do visit The Retreat and try their food. And don't be afraid to ask them to tweak the menu if you have allergies or tummy troubles like myself. Thank you for accommodating us and surprising us. We will be back and wish you every success in your new venture.

What a friendly place this is. The landlady was a delight as soon as we arrived. The food was excellent value and fresh as you like. Not a fan usually of Yorkshire puddings but I am now a convert. Good ale selection and a great area for the little 'uns play safely. Full Sunday roast with lashings of gravy and loads of veg, some great meat and roasties. And a desert as well for just a tenner all in. And service was excellent and nothing too much trouble.

The bed & breakfast facilities are very poor. I booked my in-laws in for two nights but it was so bad they didn't stop the second night. They couldn't sleep because of a very noisy generator Also the staff in the upstairs kitchen were arguing and f-ing & blinding. There was no plug in the wash basin. The chest fell to pieces when the drawer was opened. There was no milk on the hospitality tray. There was no cereal available for breakfast.

I have been here several times with my children, mum & elderly Nanna who loves it here, this is due to the friendly staff who accommodate us at all times and nothing is too much trouble for them. We often pick things that are not necessarily straight forward off the menu and they always say “no problem”.

How nice it is to find a friendly local pub with a very amiable landlord. This pub is obvious ment to attract all the family and these times when pub's are either closing or turning into those ghastly psuedo gastro pubs with their overrated and expensive drinks and food,is a joy to find.Nothing overrated or ostentatious just an ordinary pub for ordinary people.

A country pub with friendly and welcoming staff and good food at great prices. As for the drinks, the Wherry was excellent and the malt whisky is the lowest price I've ever seen in a pub. I'll be going back very soon.
