Stayed here over night on a work trip and had a work dinner. The receptionist was lovely when I checked in and showed me to my room. Room was nice and spacious and I will recommend room 5 it’s to die for. The meal was even more exceptional I had the mixed grill and my work colleague had a mussels, Clams and king prawn tagliatelle Mixed Grill - 4/5 it was delicious Rated Tagliatelle - 4/5 The atmosphere was lovely in the restaurant. The room was amazing and comfortable and warm and there is sky in the room as well for sports and movie lovers for a nice unwind. Only down fall was no shower but the tub was ok. I would recommend a stay here

Meal was booked for 17.00 .We were shown where we were sitting very dark and dingy. As there were 18 of us and 2 dogs fair enough. At 17.50 food eventually arrived. In my opinion the waitresses were very young and inexperienced. The food was very run of the mill and very salty and overcooked. We sent one meal back as the fish was not edible (overcooked).Once we had finished the meal we were left with plates on the table till we had to go and ask for the plates to be cleared. Some of the group were happy with the food but definitely not the service. They did take £26 off the meal which overall cost us £372.Not impressed and would not recommend it.

We had a celebratory birthday lunch for four out on the terrace today at The Oaksmere Hotel. Beautiful location for a perfect summer’s day and hard to beat. As we had our wedding at the oaksmere, we came back for our 7th anniversary. We go back most years, as always the food was amazing but found the service had started to dip over the years! We are unsure if John was the manager but he gave exceptional service, he was very friendly and made us feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble for him. Me and my husband both agreed we will be back again with friends and family very soon.

Had a very average lunch here. One of our party was vegan and there was absolutely nothing on the menu -the staff seemed incapable of being able to veganise anything ( chips had to be cooked in meat fat the potatoes had to have butter on etc) and ended up with a salad comprised almost entirely of lettuce with a few strips of roasted pepper and originally charged the same as the poached salmon and new potato salad. No effort at all.

Really pleased with the whole experience. Food and staff were perfect. Staff were kind and always helpful when we stayed at the Oaksmere. The room we stayed in was really nice, the spa bath and the shower were amazing!! We had a few issues like the Bluetooth speakers not working and the electric blinds not working. This was a little annoying as we did ask for help but nothing got resolved and we spent a lot of money on the room so would have liked everything to work. We also didnt sleep the best as the air conditioning unit is quite loud and even made noises when we turned it off. But other than that the time we had at the Oaksmere was brilliant!! We came here for our works Xmas party. We had the whole pub and rooms booked for those of us who had to travel from the west Midlands. The pub was really nice and had lots of wooden beams throughout. The staff were friendly and we would all like to give a shout out to Flora who served us from the moment we sat down for lunch by and right through till the end of the night. The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable. The bathroom had a jacuzzi bath with a shower over the bath. Speakers in the ceiling above the bed with Bluetooth technology. Sky TV and WiFi. Dressing table and sofa. Hairdryer and ironing board with iron. The only gripe I had was that I couldn't open the windows, so I had to turn the radiators off and use the fan, also I had no hangers in the wardrobe. But apart from those small minor things it was a great night and a good night's sleep. The next morning we had breakfast which was delicious with lots of options for veggies/vegans.

My friend and I met for lunch in the bar area with her newborn baby as the Oaksmere is half way between us. She had some olives and a coke & I had a pulled pork ciabatta sandwich and a half pint of lemonade. When I went up to pay, the man at the bar didn’t provide me with a bill, didn’t show me the card machine when I tapped to pay, or offer me a receipt. I didn’t think anything of it, but got a shock when I arrived home to find I’d been charged £27.89. I am extremely disappointed that there was a £3 service charge added when we were sat in the bar area and only had some olives and a sandwich - nowhere on the menu did it advertise this and I felt ripped off by the experience. I won’t be recommending the Oaksmere as a good meeting spot to anyone.

We went here for Sunday lunch for a birthday. First impressions weren't exactly great. This is a great place when the details are maintained. Alas, things are slipping. First thing was the mat from the restaurant entrance was outside and the gap where it came from had a step around the edge that wasn't clearly marked. Someone could have tripped. As you walk into the restaurant the threshold looked tired and needed tidying up. The reception area for the hotel side gives a lazy impression as the staff member was poked into the corner and wasn't exactly giving a warm and attentive reception. We were escorted to our seats and the two ladies serving us were good. They seemed rather new and their attention to detail wasn't what I would call spot on. Now, this isn't a criticism of them, you can't get that detail if no-one is there to advise. Starters were ordered and these arrived a while later. A platter of cold meats was ordered along with some bread. The platter was ok but the bread was very disappointing. It was cold and gave the impression it was a supermarket purchase just cut into pieces. The butter alongside it was lovely though. We all had roast dinners and these were passable but without being anything special I did go to use the bathroom and I must say it was disgusting. It smelt of urine and there were paper towels all over the floor and the bin was full. This with the hotel receptionist sitting opposite and clearly no one cleaning or checking the toilet for hours gave a very poor impression. This place could be, and was, amazing but standards have clearly slipped. For the money charged I'm afraid to say we won't be rushing back and some fond memories of other meals there will be a thing of the past. Hopefully things improve but we probably won't see them

Lacklustre dull atmosphere left feeling disappointed It was a search on Tripadvisor for a good quality afternoon tea to celebrate our wedding anniversary;which prompted us to book The Oaksmere Eye Suffolk, but upon arrival we were quickly scurried away to ‘wait in the bar’ where we were to wait for our table. My husband bought Humpty Dumpty & a Lighthouse beer which were sold at room temperature which wasn’t a good start. We waited until they were ready to seat us & again scurried to the very corner table away from everyone else & served the three tier afternoon tea. No explanation of what was served, no description of ingredients or types of savouries or sweet goods. The fillings for the sandwiches were as expected but two sausage meat products shows little imagination & the sausage roll wasn’t the same sausage meat used in the scotch egg which was odd. Minimal effort shown all round to be honest. Average at best. Not great value for money

We have been here before lockdown and this visit showed there has been many changes with a rebuild that has been done tastefully and the workmanship shows it was not done cheaply. We chose to eat in the bar area and the place was fairly busy considering it was a rainy Saturday afternoon. The menu was very simple and a little disappointing with only a few choices, all of which were uninspiring. The food arrived and wow, the fish and chip meals were absolutely enormous and the fish was very fresh indeed. The burgers were ok but the chips caused all of us terrible heartburn later. We ordered dessert but even though the gelato flavours were wonderfully different they were presented as an ice-cream cone - £6 for a juvenile ice cream was not what I was expecting and it simply wasn’t good enough. The Oaksmere mess had no fruit in it at all so Nil Point for the desserts. The staff were pleasant enough but at nearly £100 without drinks (our guests bought those), we will not hurry back. We will not hurry back.

Couldn’t fault the food/service for that but the children ordered a cheeseburger with chips, the menu was very basic and all ‘with chips’. That was literally it -thrown on a plate. No salad/coleslaw/garnish. A child could have served something more appealing. Very unimpressed, you’d get better plates served in a cafe. At the prices they charge it’s appalling. There is a farm shop just down the road and butchers you can obtain more or just order more before you run out? Or strike it off the menu before people order drinks and sit down. Just sheer bone idle laziness. Drinks were a pint of lager and 2 soft drinks priced at £16, why? Having a posh premises doesn’t entitle you to a living. Place was dead, no music on as background. Oh dear! I've come to write a review - then you see other reviews and how others are feeling the same as you! I also notice that hardly any (if indeed any) reviews have been answered by the owners - clearly, they are not interested or even aware of such reviews. This place is such a waste in the hands of owners/managers who are so obviously disinterested. When visiting a fine venue & restaurant, what is more important to you I ask......great food? or a great culture? Great food is generally fairly straight forward to provide. If you pay enough, suppliers will provide you quality food. Generally speaking, a Chef will have the capacity to produce a tasty meal from fine ingredients - otherwise he wouldn't be a chef right? So what's more important then? Yes, a great culture! A great culture comes from the top - it comes with hiring the right staff. Staff that are knowledgable, fun, friendly - staff that care, have passion and are interested in what they do. All this provides a great atmosphere and a great experience for the customer which is everything you are looking for when going out for a meal. There's absolutely no point at all having great food if the culture is wrong and - if the culture is right, the great food will follow every time (guaranteed!). Unfortunately, this great culture, great atmosphere and great experience is not what you will find at The Oaksmere! It has got to be the most disappointing experience ever. The venue is awesome, the setting, grounds and layout is fabulous. The building, it's history and environment is so interesting and the food is no doubt good quality - it even has the big bertha charcoal oven - all sounds great doesn't it? It doesn't however have a great culture! The staff are rude, they gave us no time to decide, they offered no help, there was no wine list provided until we asked (and were made to feel stupid in asking), there's no drinks menu at all, the bar staff don't know their drinks (they don't do cocktails either - untrained apparently which we discovered is true even with the basics!). The bar staff didn't know the difference between scotch whisky and bourbon! The food menu's were taken away from us before we had hardly had time to look at them. And then the prices! Extortionate - which, if there had been a great culture, we would have been happy to pay - even the 10% service charge (which appears on your bill with no mention of the fact that it is discretionary) - we would have been happy to pay this had the service been right but there was no way I was paying for this with the service we received. In short, we will not be returning - there's simply no point. Very expensive, bad service, hopeless atmosphere. I have given a 1 star because in my view, there is no middle ground - you're either a 5 star or a 1 star! Do the job right or it's wrong! Hopefully there will be a management change at some point and this beautiful venue is rescued and reinvigorated - until then - Adios Amigo!

I am caring for a gentleman in the local area that used to frequent here often and has been asking me to take him for a while. After hearing amazing things about the oaksmeres restaurant re opening, we thought we'd give it a try. This can be difficult with his condition and quite daunting for him. We arrived and after parking in the disabled parking and tali g a while to get in. We weraited in the lounge area. When shown to our seats we realised that there were 2 steep steps. We were told to get back in the car and drive round other side of the building. When we eventually got in we were shown to our seats in a very nicy decorated restaurant. The starter of scallops was very nice. My main of hake was pretty good too. The steak my friend had though was awful. He barely ate any of it ans it was mainly grosse and fat. I did tell the waitress as he was so looking forward to a long awaited nice meal out. She came back to tell us that the chef said "its supposed to be like that! And that as he had eaten some of it (less than half) they would still charge him for it. We asked for the dessert menue. My friend ordered a dessert, (cheesecake) and maybe it was because we had said the steak was not good.. We waited 25 minutes, my friend asked the waitress how much longer it would be as he had been waiting an hour (he has little concept of time due to his illness) she snapped back "no it's been 25 minutes!" which I think is enough really for one cheesecake? He asked how much longer and she said a couple of minutes but if he needs to cancel that's fine. He decided to wait. It was almost 40 minites before he received a mediocre cheesecake that looked very pretty but was pretty bland to be honest. When we paid I asked if he had to pay for the steak and she said yes there was nothing wrong with it.. (it was only half edible and that was pushing it. The best thing about the meal was the coffee. Very dissapoonted. Lovely surroundings, been waiting to give it a try. Doubt if we'll be rushing back. Shame as his family and mine used to use it quite a lot.

Four of us visited for lunch. We were in the bar as the main restaurant was closed for refurbishment. The overall impression of the group was that it was OK but definitely nothing special. There are two large car parks which, given its location, is good. The bar itself was spotless with lots of wooden beams and timbers. Overall it was quite quiet, definitely not busy. If anything it did feel a bit sterile. There were two servers looking after both the bar and dealing with the tables. One server was delightful and you 'felt the love', the other you didn't. Not hostile, just doing the job, going through the motions, nothing else. On to the food. Two of us had starters. I went for the pork belly in hoisin and sesame seeds (£6). To put it politely, this was bijou. It came in a dish about three inches across with seven or eight roughly half inch cubes of pork. The taste was fine but at nearly £1/bite perhaps a bit of a rip off. The other starter was whitebait. This was a more reasonable size but still smaller than a lot of whitebait starters I've seen. For mains, two of the group had the steak and ale pie. They broadly speaking cleared their plates so a plus point there. My wife had the burger which was OK but nothing exceptional. I had the wild mushroom pappardelle which was OK but a bit greasy. Being charitable I'll put that down to the chef being over generous with the truffle oil. It was OK but... Three of us had dessert, all going for the sticky toffee pudding. It was OK (there's that word again) but nothing special. It should have been warmer, particularly the puddle of sauce which was pretty tepid. To be honest the best bit was the ice cream on top which is a disappointing thing to have to say. Given that they were not busy the service did seem rather slow. Generally when food is brought to the table the servers ask if you need anything else. Not here. My wife, like many people, has tomato ketchup with her burger. There was none on the table, none was offered so I had to leave my food and queue at the bar to ask for some. We paid the bill and left. They automatically add a 10% service charge. They probably did not deserve it but sometimes you just can't be bothered to argue. The overall consensus of the group was that it was OK but we won't be going back. There are a number of establishments within easy driving distance that offer better food, better service and better value. It's really a shame to have to say that because Oaksmere has the potential to be really good but unfortunately they just keep missing the mark.

The hotel and grounds are lovely - including a peaceful orangery (for breakfast), outdoor terraces and a huge pirate ship and swings for kids to play on. The room itself was spacious and very clean. However, there were lots of small niggles which just left the impression that, whilst the place has potential, it just isn't living up to it at the moment. For example, both bedside lamps not working, 2 ceiling spots had failed, plenty of teas and Nespresso in the room (great!) but then only 2 milk sachets, a relatively short menu with blurb about homegrown/local produce....but then several unavailable items meaning choice was effectively burger/fish/steak w/ chips, also our pre-ordered chocolates never materialised, breakfast food was fine but not exactly exuding 'exquisite local produce' . The staff we saw were friendly and helpful and seemed to be doing their best, but I guess the point is don't expect all the bits and bobs to be finessed and perfect.

A really disappointing Sunday lunch. Been going for years, regularly, have to say the service and more importantly the food has slipped. Some of the portions were very small, I actually asked if they forgot part of the meal. Sadly, after complaining in person and on a email, they said 'hope we give them another chance' No point spending close to £150 for 3 people to still feel hungry when leaving. Seems like a fall from grace, a real shame

We booked for a birthday meal in the restaurant but when we arrived we were in the pub with no forewarning or opportunity to cancel ahead of the evening. The menu was pub food, expensive and of poor quality. Steak was fatty and served with a garlic sauce that was so strong it was inedible. The pudding was an odd mix and looked like a breakfast. Would not return again as has really gone down hill. If you do go complain at the time if your experience is the same as ours.

The food was good and the atmosphere unfortunately the service was very slow after the 3rd course and the coffee never appeared .The staff were obviously overstretched which is a pity as it was a pre booked Xmas day lunch (£120.00)per head.We have been to the Oaksmere.many times and this was quite a surprising situation but others there on the 25/12/2022had stated that they had experienced this before

We stayed in the premier suite at The Oaksmere (The Patterson), using it as a bridal suite over a weekend for our wedding. Other family and friends stayed at the hotel with us. It was perfect for everyone to both prepare and relax, with beautiful décor and an idyllic setting. The hospitality and attention to detail were excellent. The food at the restaurant was hearty and delicious. The hotel was an integral part of making the weekend very special for us.

We met at the Oaksmere for a family occasion with twelve of us. Very warmly met and welcomed by Fraser the owner who had set us a table in a lovely room with pictures of birds on the walls. A superb meal and we were very well looked after by the attentive waiting staff. Thank you Fraser for making it a night to remember. We shall return. Nic Stenhouse

We haven’t been for a meal for a couple of years due Covid and also some poor reviews! But we decided to give it another go as we love the setting and it isn’t far from us and we somehow feel a loyalty to the place ! We sat at a table in the bar , as we had our puppy with us. The bench long cushion pads are very stained, grubby and not very pleasant to sit on . Really need to address that ! We had a real selection of waiting staff, we asked a couple of questions , both times they had to go and check out the information for us. However I am very pleased to say we all enjoyed our main course, pork with lots of vegetables , I personally , could have done with another spoonful of the cauliflower cheese, and fewer potatoes but never mind , it was very tasty ! My pudding was delicious. The cheese course was £12 , but there were no gluten free crackers or oatmeal biscuits to accompany the lovely local cheese. I did mention this to the restaurant manager, he said he would rectify this . Any way I have a feeling that the restaurant may well be on an up again …hope so !

Sad to say that this place now has all the signs of somewhere struggling. Poor service with a shrinking menu and the food itself on our last visit was very poor. A Sunday roast with more fat than meat on the beer and inedible potatoes (literally could not get a fork in it). Still love the setting, and the bar is good but the food is not great and is poor value.

We spent a few nights at the Oaksmere with some family and friends while travelling for a wedding. I’ve stayed at my fair share of 5 star hotels. I must say, the staff at the Oaksmere is simple fantastic at another degree! They are genuine family. From the front desk, to Matt! Even the evening keeper, that old chap had tons of stories while I was sipping earl grey in the “gun room” at 3am! The restaurant on-site was also amazing. We had a table of almost 20 people for afternoon tea. It was delicious and again the staff was also phenomenal. The rooms, proper air conditioning, clean, well put together and decorated very well. Each room had its own unique touch. The bathrooms were well equipped with modern fixtures. Hotel interior decor and exterior landscape is magazine level. I don’t care where you’re from, I’d you somehow land in this review, it’s your sign to just book what ever you need to book, just go! Oaksmere staff! Thank you! You’re doing everything right!

We had a mid week break here for our 30th wedding anniversary, the room was immaculately clean all the essentials towels toiletries bath robes etc made you feel home from home. The breakfast was outstanding all of local produce unlimited tea and coffee. The bar was well stocked and its was lovely to have an afternoon drink in the lovely gardens. The evening meals in the restaurant were of very high standard not only in tase but presentation too. From the time of arrival to our departure we received excellent service from all members of staff very polite and very professional especially the girls Amma Lucy and Paris who waited on us throughout our meals and also the manager who was very accommodating. Well done Oaksmere looking forward to seeing you in the near future.

Booked a stay in one of the most expensive rooms, with a whirlpool bath. The room itself was lovely, coffee machine and kettle. The "double bed" was 2 singles pushed together, so there was a hard ridge in the middle. The whirlpool bath did not work properly, only 3 jets worked when they did decide to turn on. The bath felt dirty, like a grime on the side whenever it was filled and black stuff coming out of the jets and bubble vents. The TV took 40 minutes to turn on each time, the tv did not have any smart features like netflix, NowTV etc. Just a old sky box. Was over charged for food but no way to chase it up now. We were originally only supposed to stay 2 night, but left after the first. The staff were lovely and rightly so did not charge us for the second night and did apologise. Such a gorgeous hotel in a beautiful setting. It feels modern but yet dated in areas. With the fact they have fancy baths and dyson airdryers, a modern TV should be available too especially at £180 a night.

Went in for some food on a very wet night. Wife makes some comment about bad weather to landlord whose reply is that we could do with more bad weather to discourage the boat people from crossing the channel. She orders vegetable lasagne from his menu . When he brings it says he doesn't know how she could eat it as it is bordering on the disgusting. When I ask for a cup of tea to go with her meal he says he does not serve tea as the English have tearooms to cater for that. Strange chap. Food was very good but he did not cook it ?. I have noticed other comments about the rude landlord on here. True to form?
