Great fish and chips freshly cooked, got takeaway to sit on the harbourside

The food was so so. Skin left on fish which is never a positive sign of effort being taken, and the batter in the sausages was thick and carpety. The biggest area of concern was the frankly appalling conversation the staff were having both amongst themselves and with another customer, to the point I almost walked out. Shocked and disgusted, please avoid like the plague.

Proper old school chippy / cafe style restaurant , good character and friendly staff and a very happy waitress :) food is very reasonably priced and don't feel like you've spent a arm and a leg to eat out but also good enough quality for the money you spend. Will defo go again on future visits to Bristol :)

We are here in Bristol for a 3 night break from Bournemouth and thought we’d give this restaurant a try tonight. Both my husband and I had cod n chips and were very pleased. We ate in. The food was cooked to order, was lovely and hot, of a good quality and well presented. The staff were all lovely and friendly and the owner came over and chatted with us after our meal, a very nice man. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be back when we are next in Bristol . Excellent!!

Good food but I noticed I was charged more for my order than the price on the board. Is there ‘surge pricing’ at busy times? If so, it should be made clear.

Always wonderful food and excellent service

I should not have come here. Any chips I get from now on will simply be a disappointment. I wasn't expecting to be blown away from cheesy chips but these guys did it. FIVE STARS!!!!!

i never knew cheesy chips could be this damn good. i'm never going anywhere else for my chips as they'll forever be anticlimactic in comparison. 100% recommend!

I ordered a fish and chips takeaway. They cooked it for me (7 minutes), and it was delicious.

The restaurant was right in the alley but it was quite a surprise for us. The shop was quite small and to be honest quite aged - like a restaurant that you see in a 60’ movie. However, the fish and chip was hot and yummy. The staff was nice and the vibe was really good - the seats were a bit cramped but comfortable enough for a small and quick lunch. The only complaint was some of the sauce packs were broken so you might have had chances to have touch some sauce packs with leaks.

The most amazing fish and chips place. I went here with my mum on my trip to Bristol and we've had the best food. Big portions, very fresh fish, perfectly done chips. Most of all, the owner was so kind! We really felt at home there and came back for a meal every day. Definitely recommend!! <3

A little outdated, very good fish and ships

From Paris, for a week-end at Bristol, we found the best fish and chips au rendez vous fish bar. We loved it. I was not ease with the menu card but the chef said with a assuring tone " we ll Cook it for you" . It was a delightful experience enjoying them with my 2 sons. Traditional British food and unpretentious. You might see a couple of performers stopping by for takeaway half an hour after a matinee. I did.

The best chips in Bristol. Great prices. I don't eat fish so I usually have the battered sausage and it's lush and so huge it hangs over the plate! Delicious. Curry sauce is a good un too 🫶 Lovely place, lovely staff and lovely atmosphere. Went to a birthday gathering, and another time for tea. It's also BYOB. Looking forward to my next visit.

Traditional fish n chips, portions a bit smaller than you might expect.

The other reviews are genuine, one of the best cod and chips I’ve had. The curry sauce is good, everything is smoking hot and the two owners were very friendly. £12 for a combo with can of drink, good for the price I think.

I just fancied fish and chips from a chippy to eat while I walked home. Checked their ratings and they weren't wrong. I ordered my fish and chips, was told there would be a slight wait as they cooked them fresh. I was not dissapointed. Both fish and chips were amazing, quality and quantity. Staff all very friendly. If you want fish n chips in Bristol, this is the place to go.

We go here before a night out at the Hippodrome or the Beacon. Proper chips, we love the restaurant. Toilets upstairs, no disabled loos downstairs.

Amazing experience! Also best fish and chips we’ve had in the UK. the owner and cook were very sweet. The owner was amazingly kind and had a long chat with us when he found out we visiting from Canada. Honestly one of the friendliest restaurant experiences we’ve had throughout our 3 months in the EU and UK. Quality of fish and chips is great and I really enjoyed the curry sauce with the chips. I would recommend to everyone I wish we could have gone again before leaving just to support the business. The prices are very reasonable £10-15 per person for quality fish and chips with sauce.

Tried to eat here twice over a very soggy weekend in Bristol for the Slapstick festival, both times the seating area was closed and we were told we would have to eat out in the rain. Can't comment on the food as cold rain soaked fish and chips does not appeal.

Awesome cod chips! Not soggy at all, the batter gives a good taste and crisp to the overall taste. Shame they ran out of scampi when I visited, I was curious about it.

Was always wondering where in the city centre I can grab some classic fish and chips or a battered sausage... THIS IS THE PLACE. Such a hidden gem in the city centre, the food is tasty and the service is so friendly and welcoming. The decor is quirky with all the new papers clipping and retro celeb signed pictures but really shows how long this place has been running and deserves lots of respect. - From happy girl who got sausage, chips and curry sauce today :)

This place was a bit scruffy and in need of a lick of paint. The food was excellent, we discovered in our nearby hotel room, as we didn't eat in. I thought it was a tired old idea that so many old photos of aging or dead theatre types who apparently patronised this chippy adorned the walls: who gives a tinker's curse that some seventies Saturday night TV fodder enjoyed a bag of chips there many moons ago, if ever? Also, I did sympathise with the poor soul who was there to peel and chip the potatoes; the man in charge was openly rude and offensive to him in front of me which to my mind is bullying. Worth it for the food alone but the social aspect of witnessing a boss talking to his employee like he was rubbish was difficult to process.

George is rude, swearing at someone over the phone, the place is not nice at all! If that's the kind of vulgar that comes out of someone's mouth, it's not the place to go. I dread the thought of how he speaks to customers.

Best chips I have had in a long time

Ich hatte eine Dienstreise nach Bristol. Habe hier drei Nächte verbracht. Ein Abend war zur freien Verfügung; ich wollte leckere, traditionelle "Fish & Chips" haben -- und die habe ich hier bekommen. "CoD & Chips" kostet hier 10£, und die Portion ist riesig. Aber sie ist nicht nur groß, sondern einfach schmackhaft. Obwohl wir "take-away" hatten, konnten wir 3in paar Minuten die Gaststätte angucken, während wir auf die Zubereitung warteten. Die Einrichtung ist nicht neu, aber dieser Laden ist besonders. Überall hängen Erinnerungsstücke, Autogrammkarten, Zeitungsartikel, Poster -- als Erinnerungsstücke an Besuche von Prominenten Personen. Die meisten Souveniers scheinen schon älter zu sein, aber trotzdem hat es seinen Charm. Wer auf "Schicki-Micki" steht ist hier falsch, aber wer eine authentische Traditionsstädte haben will, ist hier richtig. Zusätzlich haben wir uns sehr willkommen gefühlt, der Service wirkte nicht aufgesetzt professionell, sondern nett, freundlich, aufrichtig. Klare Empfehlung, wenn ihr mal tolle CoD & Chips essen wollt.

Me encuentro un pelo en la masa de pescado y ni siquiera se disculpan. La solución fue hacerme esperar 20 minutos para traer mi plato y ni siquiera decir lo siento. Cuando pago me dan 3 £ en monedas de 10p (30 monedas). No volveré y nadie a mi alrededor gastará nada allí tampoco allí. Sirva para todos aquellos que me lean, mejor Salt & Malt. Comida grasienta y nada del otro mundo. No perdéis nada por no comer aquí

This was a small restaurant, but the food was tasty. We ordered cod and a meat pie with chips. They have take away or table service. They do not sell beer, but there were several non-alcoholic beverages to choose from.

Locale tradizionale di fish and chips con possibilità di asporto e di consumazione sul posto. Abbiamo provato il piatto forte della casa che ci ha soddisfatto enormemente . Il merluzzo morbido e per niente salato e la panatura croccante e non untuosa. Valore aggiunto del locale è la cordialità del proprietario e la gentilezza della cameriera . Great place, yummy food and lovely staff!

The food was ok. Nothing special but I could've given it 3 stars if it wasn't for the service. We went in and asked if there was a table to eat for a group of 6. They said yes and showed us a space at the back of the shop. It's a small room and a bit tight in terms of sitting, but acceptable for a quick grab. We asked if they would take cards and they said yes, so we ordered. When we were eating, they came to ask if we would be happy to pay cash and we said no. They insisted and not wanting to make a big fuss we accepted and I went to a machine to get some. On my return I went straight to pay and there were a few people in front of me who asked to pay card and there was no problem with it. Seriously? What game are you playing? Also with the food, the chips tasted differently than expected. They were well cooked and seemed fresh, but they were not oil fried. We asked how they were done: oven, boiled, etc. They wouldn't tell us. Again, seriously? You don't know, care or simply don't want to share? I wasn't even complaining, just asking to understand what I was eating. I found this kind of service doesn't invite me to come back

Lovely family business that's been running for 57 years. Authentic vintage sitting area, the owner/head chef was a lovely man that looked after our order. It was freshly caught fish and made by order. Definitely to go to if you are looking for the best fish and chips at Bristol 👍🏼😊

Maybe the restaurant doesn't look much outside and inside as for me but the most important is the food was really fresh and good quality and staff was ok. I can recommend this place.

Echt guter Fisch. Hatte Kabeljau mit Chips. Schnell zubereitet und heiß serviert. Selten so gut Fish&Chips gehabt. Saucen gibt es nach Wahl am Tisch. Leider in kleinen Tütchen, so dass viel Müll entsteht. Wurde mehrfach gefragt, ob es schmeckt oder ich noch etwas möchte. Mit Getränken unter 15€. Unschlagbar!

Don’t normally place reviews, but I just had to for this fish and chips bar. The staff were very helpful and the fish and chips were out of this world. I would definitely be back soon and I would definitely highly recommend this little fish and chips bar if your looks for a good chippy.

Traditional, simple yet delightful fish and chips cafe. Michael the operator is a welcoming addition to this 57-year establishment.

I loved coming here with my clients. I work as a support worker and we were able to order tasty comfort food for our adventure to the aquarium. It's not really accessible for wheelchairs however my clients are able to walk so it wasn't an issue for us. They even had seating to eat in so we weren't rushing and eating on the go. Especially great when it was a bit chilly outside.

Called up three days before asking if a group of 20 students could come and have dinner, which many places might not respond well to. They were so lovely, we could bring our own alcohol and the service was incredibly easy and no difficulty splitting payments. Most people don't know about the back seating room but I would highly recommend! If you're looking for a cheap but great value for money service this is the place to go! Will definitely be back!

Pre-covid 2 of us had something to eat before a Saturday matinee at the Hippodrome. The last two times we have popped round they gave been closed. Apparently they no longer open from 12.00 until 2.00pm. I was told they now open at 4.20

Went here before we caught a show at the Hippodrome. Lovely Fish & Chips. The service was excellent. Will definitely visit again.

I was visiting the UK from the U.S. for 16 days & knew I had to get fish & chips. I had fish n chips 5 times & this place was far & away the best. Huge portions of fresh fish & perfectly cooked chips. The fried halloumi was also wonderful.

I love fish and chips, and it is something I will try first wherever I go. I’m very happy that this place is in Bristol, where I live. I think this is the best chippy on this country, out of hundreds I’ve tried. The owners and waitress are very friendly, I hear from my friends for the same as well. The price isn’t bad, and fish is never soggy here. One note I wish to leave, is that they don’t open on Sundays and Mondays. This place is just so good that I would wish it to open everyday. I don’t leave that much rating, but for this chippy I will need to give five, or if possible six. I genuinely wish the owners and all the workers there to have prosperous business. The world need to know more about this fantastic place.

We tried asking if their chips were vegan friendly and the person said it was cooked in rapeseed oil but ended up finding a bit of fish right at the bottom of the container. Still feel ill from that. Edit:Contrary to the relpy, four other people can vouch that we where not informed of this.

Visiting from Gibraltar we found this perfect hidden gem of a fish and chips restaurant.Excellent tasty fish and chips and great atmosphere.Very well decorated and clean place with second to none service.For me to give 5 stars on a review is out of the norm....this place deserves this rating.Well done.

One of the greatest parts about going to the theatre, popping in for lunch at this amazing place. The friendliest staff who makes you feel like family every time and some of the Greatest fish and chips I've had ever.
