The Regent in Gateshead

Updated review ..Used this takeaway for 20 yrs.The food has been very very nice(until about 3yrs ago).. Looks like recent change of staff late 2023. They have modernised it with new menu. Some items are great (eg pizza box) . Just had special fried rice and 9" box which was nice and the gravy is very nice. Also the garlic mushrooms are nice. They make my favourite Peking sauce(nobody else comes close)Dropped 1 star 3 years ago but now back to 5 stars. Staff very friendly and give free gifts all the time. My new favourite meal is the salt and pepper box. And they make the best prawn crackers.

First time trying tonight and everything was beautiful. Very good priced too. It’s the best Chinese i have had in a long time

Got recommended for this takeaway Terrible paid £40 Wrong order called told me they will contact driver god Knows how he had a replacement that fast went in bin terrible stay away

Brilliant Chinese food it's the only one I use

Our fav lazy stay home dinner, we ordered chicken batter in sweet and sour sauce, salt and pepper chicken. Me and my partner love it, food were pipping hot. Ordered them with mini spring roll and crispy wonton, yumm. Very reasonable price and portion. The owner and staff are really friendly too.

Been using these for years dont know what's happen not the same got spring rolls 1 little onion in all batter same with won ton 😥

First and last time for this takeaway miserable staff , and food not much better will stick with ping on.

Good food every time and reasonably priced

First time trying this takeaway and was well worth the money spent . Meals were piping hot and massive portions . The price range compared to others in area was at least £1 cheaper but was not reflected in the quality .

Don't know why don't take cards in shop only cash something not right there this day and age

Been awhile since we've had a tekeaeay. This one was excellent.

Not sure what has happened to the Regent but all of our meal was put in the bin. It arrived cold, the ribs were obviously reheated, they were chewy beyond belief & extremely dry. The sauce did not taste right at all. The chips were hard & dry. An absolute waste of money & we won't be ordering again. You must do better

Horrible sorry first time I’ve used never again delivery was quick food was fast but not nice

Ordered a £70 order, food that arrived was lovely hence the 2 stars however customer service terrible. Missed off a main meal from my order which was delivered at 8.45pm, when I phoned they said this would be straight out. At 9.30pm I called again to be told it was out with the driver. Called again at 10.15pm to be told they can't control the drivers once the food left. Called at 11pm to be told the drivers car had broken down outside the shop. Would much rather he have said at the beginning he didn't have time to resend this. I asked for a refund which it was agreed to be posted through my door the following day, this never happened.

Literally disgusting, no value for money at all and barely any chips and 2 chicken balls. there’s a Chinese across the street that does x2 more food for less money

We always use regent because food is normally lovely but got chicken chow mein tonight and the chicken was awful. Very rubbery so think we.llbe looking for a new takeaway

Got the salt and pepper chicken and king prawn cashew nut with salt and pepper chips by far the best Chinese in a long time 5 stars !

We had the best duck and pancakes last night I would say even better than Stowell street in Newcastle well done Regent food was lovely

Just ordered 2 different meals and have left them both very bad quality meet curry tasteless never be going back

Used to love regent's but it has been taken over, and went down hill.The sweet and sour was so awful. No flavor at all. Chips undercooked and staff didn't care at all. Will not be going back. When it was the old owners , the sweet and sour was amazing. This meal left an awful taste in my mouth

First & last time dry food hardly any meat in my special chow mein chips had a burned smell & taste

We got a meal here on Sunday night there beef curry was so hot we could not eat it it all went in the bin

First time here delivery was very promt food well coocked a slight mix up with order but may b down me 2wife as shes a bit mad meal was rather salty as i have bad heart not good 4me very thirsty hope this is one off will try them again and see.

It's supposed to be a takeaway, I ordered an expensive spring roll full of spam and 2 prawns probably cooked in castrol gtx and a house special which consisted of spam, onion, spam, 2 mushrooms, spam, 2 bits of pork, spam and spam, oh did I mention spam, maybe there's no chicken, beef or king prawns left after Xmas, anyways we all feel a bit ill at the moment for this expensive mistake.

Ordered a Chinese from here and it’s was absolutely vile. I don’t know what I was eating but it certainly was not chicken. Looks like cheap processed food. UNEATABLE the full meal went in the bin🤢🤢

First time I used this take a way and the last . Noodles were dry and chips were cardboard .only reason got 2 stars was curry sauce never again ..

Used to use the Regent regularly but hadn't for some time and it was always excellent however doubt after last nights offering if I will,ever return The Hot / sour soup,and free prawn crackers (if you spent £14 or more were passable but the Chilli Salt ribs were small disgusting lumps of greasy gristle which were inedible Following main course of King prawn and Chicken Curry with fried rice wasn't much better so it turned out for me to be an unpleasant experience

I used to use this takeaway all the time but I think is went back a bit over the last few months Had 3 meals and to be honest the food was not good greasy chicken it was like rubber less meat in the dish than it used to be scrimping on the portions not filling the containers up with rice and chips well dry and burnt and obviously reheated a few times Sorry to give a negative review but I did try twice after the first bad meal giving another chance in total I think the bill for the 3 meals would be around the £70 mark considering most went in the bin

Ordered from here tonight prawns were not cooked properly rice was hard not fresh black Chowmein wa's dripping in soya sauce chips were raw inside we sent it back asked for Our money back they refused said we could not have our money back because there are apparently 11 king prawns per meal and there was eleven missing went to shop they put food in bin and still refuse our money back we ordered at 7pm received 8pm took food back at 9.30 pm went to shop at 10.30 to ask for a refund and was refused then they phoned police on me and through me out of shop trading sanders will be recieving a call. This matter is not over. (Bet no one else ever gets 11 king prawns per meal lol)

Been ordering fantastic food from this takeaway for years. Never once have they let me down or had a bad meal. Unlike all the other takeaways on Saltwell Road.

I wouldn't go anywhere else. The Regent is the best in Gateshead. The food is lovely and reasonably priced. I haven't had a bad meal yet.

I come here every Saturday and it's lovely if I want anything different nothings a bother the spare ribs are gorgeous aswell

Food is always good and service is even better, very friendly. Only error iv had here was my fault (I ordered wrong) took it back and even tho it was my fault, they replaced it and refused to let me pay for the mistake.

New to trip adviser and feel I need to rate my favourite takeaway ever!! I find the standard here better than any sit in Chinese restaurant in Newcastle I used to live in the area and now live in Washington - but still travel the 6-7 miles or so to get my takeaway - the sad thing is for 14 years or so for about 99% of the time i order the and dish - beef and black bean sauce with chips - out of this world!!!!!

I use this takeaway now as my main chineese as I have tried all the others around in the area and it's always consistent in quality and always hot The hot and sour soup is the best I have had from any were around The portion sizes are good and always hot and never greasy Jenny is always happy to tell you about the dishes on the menu and explained what's in the food If you want to change items she shouts it through the little window as they don't speak much English but Jenny is always happy to see you It's a small family business and I would like you to give it a try and tell others about your review of the regent I would like to see more specials menus for one with lots of choice and the ability to change items you want to eat not a standard a b c menu

Lovely chinese we actually visited twice last week after trying it. The shredded beef with chilli & salt is lovely & the chips are lovely and crispy just like chinese chips should be. I would totally recommend it. My boyfriend has had crispy chicken noodles and enjoyed them and he's also had the crispy chicken with chilli & salt. The spare ribs in chilli & salt were also lovely and yes we both love chilli& salt dishes

After giving other Chinese take aways in the Gateshead area a go I can honestly say that there isn't a better take away. The salt & chilli chicken is a favourite.

Started recently to go back here. Can't fault the food. Sweet n sour chicken hk style is 1st class. friendly boy or girl serving and an older woman cook who seems to put alot of passion and experience into the food. Give it a try. The duck is good too!
