Ping On Chop Suey House in Gateshead

Ping On food is usually good apart from any mushroom dishes, they are disgusting. We had a take away today (3 Feb 2024) and we especially asked if their mushrooms were fresh and white, (not good a couple of times previously!) they assured us they were fresh, white mushrooms. Once again, they were disgusting, old, and sloppy 🤢, we couldn't eat them, this spoiled our meal. This has put us off from ordering again. Take away for most people is a treat and very expensive therefore we need good food!!

Lovely food my local one closed so tried a few before ping on but this is by far the nicest food the gravy is my favourite

- Call in advance and pre-order - they are clear and punctual. - Usually busy, but you can park in the pub car park or the on street outside - The chips are really nice. - Honey chilli crispy beef is sweet but not spicy - Singapore noodles are tasty but again not spicy It’s fine for the price. Not deserving of a lot of the very critical reviews in my opinion. Maybe it could do with a spruce up but I guess it’s got personality.

Not the best looking place but the food was the important factor. Always had good meals from here over the years but the past two times it has been poor. All meals were very salty and ended up with majority in the bin.

Excellent food at good prices. Very Northern Chinese Old Fashioned Food in Geordie Portions. Open kitchen you can see what’s cooking, where, by whom.

The place is Dirty. I was staying in the area for work. I ordered a special curry. It was absolutely vial. The meat was slimming.and tasted like the meat was off I had one mouth full and put it in the bin. Go at your own risk

Used to be the best in Gateshead went in Saturday night it was terrible wet soggy chicken the whole family complained not sure if we would go back again

Was pretty greasy the last time we went. Put us off a little bit. May try again but may go somewhere else.

Really cracking local Chinese takeaway. Moved local so thought we'd try it. Had the salt and chili munchy box and it was delicious.

This place is a place I've used for over 15 years. Delivery or collection you just will not get better than this, it's the best I've had anywhere and I would not dream of using another unless Ping on is closed. Very well cooked and healthy oils with great chef's. This place is a credit to the community and for some a vital means of eating conveniently. Lovely staff who are always really friendly. China rules and I'm loving your food.

I always love the Chinese chips from here oh my days they are the best. Don't eat meat so I can't comment on that. But what I do get I can not fault. One thing I will say is you can not get traditional Chinese chips from anywhere and this is the only place i know that does do them.

Used to be best Chinese around.. ordered chicken curry . Definitly did not taste like chicken , was to slimy and soft.. definitly not be having anymore Chinese unless I saw what actually went into it

My favourite Chinese ever! They’ve never let me down once. Delicious, hot and always on time or early. Won’t go anywhere else.

Can't fault the food. Hot as always. Flavours just burst into your mouth. Sweet and sour Hong Kong style is the best by far from any other take aways. My only issue is that delivery is always 45mins to an hour. They obviously always busy. Its a good thing. Then you know food is top notch. I'm just too greedy to wait at times

Best Chinese takeaway in Gateshead without a doubt, better than most in Newcastle too even (excluding Stowell Street restaurants obviously) First discovered when I moved into a flat a few doors down 14 years ago with my then Fiancé, who loved their food also, saying their dishes are the most Authentic tasting and closest to true Chinese style of cooking she had ever tasted outside of South East Asia...being Taiwanese and her Grandparents Chinese, she knows better than us! In fact, despite having split up over a decade ago we still talk regularly and she still claims that even now, having lived and travelled the width and breath of Europe over the last 10 years and UK 6yrs prior to that, she has yet to experience anything closer to the flavours she grew up with! Above all, I will highly recommend schezwan chicken (ask for crispy chicken) is the best I've ever tasted.

Honestly how people can rate this place at all is beyond belief, and how environmental health hasn't shut it down is beyond me too. The place is an utter rats Hotel... I was hungry and decided to have something again and it just gets worse and worse, people say the chips from here are the best, where have they ate chips before? In my opinion if I dropped the chips into a ashtray of soggy tab butt's I would find it hard to distinguish the butts and chips apart, terrible as always.

Best around been a customer for over 20 years and still continue to go after moving away from the area but so worthwhile to travel.

Best Chinese take away in Gateshead all there food is lovely but by far the best chips not just for Chinese but even better then most chip shop

ordered special chow main and special curry rice and chips. Curry to salty and prawns in the specials were tlny, the smallest ive ever seen. On a positive note the chips were good. Lot of money for chips.

Worst Chinese food I've ever had, every dish ordered looked like it was thrown together from the day before's scraps bin.. This was beyond bad..5 dishes bought and not one of them edible...What Chinese Takeaway can't even get curry sauce right? This place is trading on the strength of a 30 year old reputation that it doesn't live up to..Don't waste your time and money....

Have used this take away over the years but standards have dropped, last night was the Worst meal ever!! Waited an hour and a half for meal to arrive ( not the first time it’s taken this long either) an unappetising tasteless meal !! needless to say will not be going back

Been using this takeaway since I moved here in 1983 and with the very rare exception the food has always been excellent. The staff are friendly and the food always arrives in good time and piping hot.

My family to include my mam, my grandma myself and my immediate family have all used this Chinese for more than 40 years + I order from here regularly and every time it is outstandingly Delicious food always fills the plate and makes a hungry tummy very happy same owners same delicious food from day one thanks Edmund keep doing what your doing it's FANTASTIC 😀😉

I haven't been to this takeaway for several years as I've moved. When I did use it, it was the best Chinese takeaway I have ever come across and I've lived all over the UK in many homes. The staff were very friendly and once they get to know you they put your order up quickly as they remember what you normally order.

Fried rice came in a plastic bag like one big bowl of mush. first time I've ever tried the place I don't think I will ever try it again an absolute waste of money even the dog wouldn't eat it.

Rang the order in and less then 15mins later guy was at the door ... Piping hot and very nice...... Great place to order food lovely staff ...

Good Chinese food well cooked and plenty of choice for those wanting english food. No dedicated car park and limited off street parking available. On main bus routes and stops very close to shop.

We normally do love the service and good food from here but tonight we ordered the food for delivery at 738pm we received it at 10pm .... with a £2.40 discount for the in convience The food wasnt cooked until 930 pm bit disappointed to say the least ....

Normally on time. Good food. However today it's 54mins late and counting. I'm starving and don't want to put anything in incase it does eventually arrive and I have to waste one of them. I ordered it at 20.40, it is now 22.37. They said it would arrive between 45-60 mins. I've had no calls back reporting any delays or a loss of directions. Edit: food just arrived after I sent this review at 22.44 was given no explanation or a "Sorry I'm late."

Ping On is one of the best Chinese take away in Gateshead. Decent portions and very tasty. Reasonable prices. Recommended!

Terrible order from here tonight!!! Chicken like rubber, very chewy, salt & chilli chicken had no chilli on!!! The Peking sauce was rotten, like jelly could turn it upside down & it would budge!! WORST Chinese I have tasted in my life!!!

When it comes to wanting delicious Chinese food in the Gateshead area this takeaway is the one to use. I have mine delivered, the food is always piping hot and SO delicious. There's a huge menu to choose from, and you get real value for money. Highly Recommended!

I've been coming now to the Ping On for over 30 years. My mother would treat me occasionally with a beef curry, this was when I was 7 and the memory of this is vivid. Now that I'm 37, the quality of food and service has not changed. I've move up to a mixed meat curry now but it's just as good as ever. I would always recommend for a budget friendly, great tasting authentic meal.

By far the best takeaway. My family and I have been going for years and its consistently excellent.

Living in the area I would say this is probably the Chinese take away in the area that's why it has lasted for many many years the owners and staff are ver helpful and friendly serving a wide range of dishes which are great value would defiantly recommend this take away

Always get a good meal from here been going now for over twenty years and had one poor meal .the portions are good and the menu choice is extensive and very reasonably priced .the staff are always very pleasant and helpful.the delivery service is always on time time and the meal kept hot when it arives I would recommend the take away no problem at all hope you enjoy if you try the food

There's a few reviews on here but they have been mistakenly put on thinking it's the restaurant ....this is takeaway only and situated on bensham bank in Gateshead...I've been going to the ping on for years....lovely staff...top notch food....best things on the menu are special fried rice with chips and curry or the beef in satay sauce...lussssh! 10/10 from me....fantastic!
