Best Chinese takeaway in the area by far, food is consistently delicious, full flavoured and fresh and the customer service is great too. Couldn't recommend enough!

I haven't used Sun Wah for years: I had a bad takeaway from there a long time ago and I got sick of the standards being hitty-missy. My "usual" was closed last night, and after delivering 80 parcels in the ice in Burnopfield, I wanted to treat myself. I don't know who this current chef is, but you want to treat him/her like royalty. What a FANTASTIC meal! I had Singapore style vermicelli, salt and pepper ribs and prawn crackers. The vermicelli was full of big, fresh juicy prawns, big slices of chicken, peppers, onion and it had a nice little kick to it. It tasted fresh and balanced. The ribs were deliciously salty, meaty, and had gorgeous melty bits of fat on them. The prawn crackers were the nice thin ones, also perfectly cooked and delicious. As the delivery was going to be late, the lady telephoned me to let me know, and to give me an expected time - which was accurate and the food arrived piping hot. I really can't congratulate them enough. £20 was the price for the culinary hug, that I needed after a hard day 😊 5 Stars. I now have to seriously consider going crawling back, to make Sun Wah my "go to" takeaway. Very very good 👍🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️

I have never had a bad meal from here and order quite regularly, the food is consistently good. The staff are lovely and polite, they will accommodate meals not on the menu and delivery time is never over an hour. It is a massive plus that they haven’t had to use any of the awful food delivery platforms out there too and testament to the fact they simply don’t need them - they rightly have a loyal customer base because their food and service is great. They also accept card payments over the phone and in person!

On Friday night we visited you after going to a local pub and takeaway who were both unwilling to serve us food for my sister who is egg and dairy intolerant. You went the extra mile and prepared a meal that was safe for my sister. Thank you so much for providing excellent service and restoring our faith in the takeaway industry. No wonder my sister is concerned that she will be served suitable food and isn't very relaxed about eating food she hasn't prepared herself. The lady on the counter was extreme helpful. Thank you for restoring my faith in the take away industry. We will continue travelling from Ryton to use Sun Wah.

Tried for the first time last night called up just before closing the delivery driver had went home but that wasn’t a problem the lady brought it her self to blaydon was piping hot very nice lady she was, food was amazing best Chinese I’ve ever had restaurant quality the chilli chips were beautiful we got a house special chowmein it was massive loads of meat about 6 king prawns and free prawn crackers was a bonus. This will definitely be our new local Chinese takeout

One of the best Chinese takeaways in the area. Very friendly staff. Easy to order ahead on the phone. They accept card payments which is great. My favourite is the spicy beef and black beans sauce (stuff of legends)

Mixed hors d’oeuvres was okay, although they were not wrapped properly they were just in a paper bag how do they expect to keep warm that way? , we ordered a portion of curry fried rice all in one carton, Rice came but no curry and it was a small carton, Ordered two portions of Chicken and sweetcorn soup they only sent one, when I rang up to ask where they were she asked did I still want them? I wouldn’t of ordered them if I didn’t want them, then she went on to charge me delivery for the second time for the item she had missed out or hadn’t heard me order, i was reading from a list,We ended up arguing about the delivery price which I shouldn’t of had to pay the second time,ended up giving driver £1 more, The prices on the website are nowhere near the prices they are charging, A portion of sweet-and-sour chicken Hong Kong style was a very small portion wasn’t even filled to the top and barely had any actual food in it was more liquid, Curry didn’t taste very nice the soup was very sweet, I’d rather starve them buy from there again

Food is fantastic and service is great. Best chinese takeaway we have had. Good portions lots of sauce nothing overly salted. Its became our regular. Prices are fair and for a meal for 4 people came to £60 with all the trimmings etc

Usually great and never complain but had one Friday and I’ve got the worst food poisoning of my life , throwing up constantly as well as never away from the toilet . Hot and cold shivers night sweats etc . Genuinely think if an elderly person ate what I did they would no longer be here . Unfortunately won’t be ordering from here again

Food was disgusting! Noodles where clumped together with zero taste, mini spring rolls where not cooked properly. Will not be using again. Do not recommend

So the wife wanted something that wasn't on the menu and sun wah delivered. When a takeaway is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty that's a great takeaway. She ordered deep fried shredded chicken in satay sauce with crispy noodles and she said was the best she had ever had. My chicken in Cantonese is allways great. Thanks sun wah express. Regards lee

Ordered Chickhen Chow mein, quarter duck and gravy and chips. Waited three hours for delivery despite ringing three times and to be told the food was with the driver. The Chow mein was bland and tasteless just soft noodles, what ever happened to the lovely chow mein you used to make which included beansprouts, water chestnuts etc. The Duck was dry . Infact the whole order bar eating a handful of the chips went in the bin, Will not be using again

I always enjoy my food from Sun Wah. The staff are very friendly and helpful, I've yet to have anything but a great experience with them.

Best chinese in whickham best staff great food

This has become our regular takeaway and it just couldn't get much better. We get the chicken noodle soup (plenty of chicken), and the Singapore vegetable chow mein, and its so good!! The hot chilli salted chips are also a must. The staff are so friendly and often just chat to you if you're waiting for your order, and from ordering I've never had to wait more than 25 minutes when collecting. I'm sure I'll be coming here again very soon.

The food we ordered was lovely great flavours and good portion size. We had a prawn and chicken chow mien which had lots of meat and prawns in it and was a good size portion. From the starter menu we had a quarter crispy duck which was delicious and came with plenty of pancakes salt and pepper wings wontons and curry samosas there were plenty of them and again tasty the wings were very meaty. All in all a fantastic takeaway and will definitely use them again

this chinese is like no other you will EVER have the pleasure of experiencing. the exuberant flavours of expert Cantonese cuisine will melt in your mouth, the exemplary customer service, fast waiting times and down to earth staff all compliment am all round authentic experience. the new sun wah Express is in a league of its own, whenever I am away from the area I dream about their hot and spicy noodle side dish. so many good things have happened due to me choosing to dine there. the best chinese not just in whickham, not just in gateshead, not just in the north east, not just in england, not just in Europe, not just tue northern hemisphere but the best in the WORLD. NEW SUN WAH TIL I DIE.

Genuinely good food.... I was looking forward to one of my favourite dishes from my childhood... Liver and onions! Disappointed to find out that they don't do liver.... But they will bring the food to you if you pay them 😎

Had a few meals from Sun Wah and they have been really good! Tonight's was disappointing! The chilli chips we ordered were not cooked enough and were not crispy!

Ordered our first meal from this take away not impressed at all. 45 mins late. Prawn Crackers were like rubber. The chicken was like Left over chicken prawns overcooked. Very disappointing will not use again

Our favourite and only local go-to Chinese takeaway and we consider ourselves to be Chinese takeaway connoisseurs! Delicious and really well priced. Great sized portions.

I was advised delivery would be 40 mins but 1hour 40 passed and no food.. Having called to chase was advised 15 mins... Unacceptable wait. Previous orders usually have items missing.. But this takes the biscuit.. Doubt I will order again..

I don't understand the "terrible" reviews on here from a few years ago, but "each to their own" as far as personal experiences go. All I know is that I've lived in this area for 15+ years and New Sun Wah Express has consistently been the best Chinese takeaway in the area, so much so that I drive to collect my food when I could easily order from other takeaways on Just Eat instead. Last night I ordered Barbecue Spare Ribs, Hot Chili Salted Chips and Chicken & Beef Curry. Please forgive the poor lighting in the photos, the food was delicious, with cheerful service in the takeaway and decent value for money too.

My favourite takeaway is Rosies in Burnopfield but it was closed on Monday. I ordered sweet and sour chicken and char siu with beansprouts. The sweet and sour was fine but the char siu was very watery and tasteless. Needless to say ill wait for Tuesday for my next takeaway

Had food from here for first time in a while was ok when it eventually arrived it wasn’t even hot it was more warm then anything else and the deliver absolutely shocking ordered food at 19:37 and it eventually arrived at 20:59 when the women on the phone said it’ll take no longer then an hour 👎👎👎👎

We ordered a meal for three for delivery and received excellent service. The meal arrived within half an hour, was piping hot and absolutely delicious.

This place has gone down hill it used to be ok though i feel they are taking too much on. My duck was very poor tasteless and not what it looked like in the menu. My husbands egg foo young was very poor too what people see in this place beggars belief. We will not be going back for sure.

The menu is extensive and the staff will tell you exactly the ingredients for any allergies. The food we ordered was tasty and plentiful and will be returning in the future.

I popped in tonight on my way home. I'm a carer for my mother, so I was in a hurry to get back. The lady on reception was dealing with a very unpleasant customer on the phone; patiently and professionally. After a long time of being polite, a customer took the phone from the lady, and told the time-waster where to go. All the customers were thankful for it. My meal was cooked and given to me within 5 minutes. Professional, polite and efficient! Well done Sun Wah!

Ordered from this place at 1845. Order delivered at 1940. Discovered there was no lemon sauce in with the lemon chicken order. Called restaurant back and they apologised and said they would send the delivery driver out with a portion of lemon sauce. When asked for an ETA they said it would be as soon as possible. 2130- still waiting for lemon sauce. Chicken which it was meant for has gone cold and congealed and is no longer edible. Can't wait any longer. Food gone in the bin and off to bed as have to be up early for work in the morning.

Had take away from here jnce. It was awful. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried a second time. It was awful. They must rely on drunken revellers for custom is the only explanation.....

Sun Wah es nuestro local chino y a mi familia y a mi nos encanta la comida en general, pero a veces es horrible. A pesar de la calidad de la comida, la inconsistente pedir comida es a menudo mal o hay porciones de medio, incluso si pagamos por un uno y es cuando estoy tan devistating entusiasmado por mi comida y no puedo comer porque falta la mitad de ella. También se toma un tiempo para la entrega, aunque yo vivo a 5 minutos en coche de su ridículo! !

Cada ahora y entonces, yo disfrute de una comida para llevar. Me ahorra tener que cocinar y lavar los platos. (Como cada día).

Second time at this place. Awful food, asked for curry, fried rice and chips. Yeah an easy meal but awfully cooked. Ended up with hard chips, slightly cooked boiled rice and a teaspoon of curry. Not impressed. Will not return.

Well I don't like to leave negative reviews but this is one of the worst chineese I have had Orders over the phone from friends house in the area they said it was a good place so went along with it The menu was typical chineese and looked well balanced We picked up the food from the Chinese as delivery was going to be 45 mins and we were only along the road The food was only warm quite greasy and very bland We asked to have a few dishes extra spicy and well they never listened We spent over £30 for the four of us and most went in the bin a total wast of money we were all I'll the next day with stomach pains and sickness

Having been a regular of this takeaway for a long time and spent a fortune I'm afraid I will now not be spending another penny with them.After a number of incidents of poor service, one of where the lady forgot to pass my order to the kitchen which resulted in a long delay for delivery & no compensation, the last straw was last night when the hot n sour soup was just a bowl of inedible chillies and the chow mein slimy noodles & pastey undercooked prawns.It seems this business does not value its customers so do yourself a favour a pay a bit extra for a delicious takeaway with courteous service from Pagoda along the road.

Took 1 hour 40 minutes to arrive, phoned 3 times and was told it was on its way. When it finally arrived there were two dishes missing so I rang up again and was told do you want to come down here for them (weird delivery service in my opinion if you have to go and get missing items yourself!) Then I was told it would take a further 40 minutes to send missing dishes and when I expressed my dissatisfaction at already waiting 1 hour 40 minutes and asked if they could re - deliver in 20 minutes I was laughed at and told oh yeah of course we will be there in 20 minutes and then hung up on. I realised after an hour that it wasn't going to come at all and the fact that they had taken my money only compounded that they are thieving, lying, obnoxious and unprofessional and I would heartily recommend that people give this takeaway a very wide berth to avoid complete disappointment.

We ordered a takeaway on a Wednesday night I wouldn't class that as being a busy night however we ordered at6.55pm and were told it would be an hour Which is fair enough but when you wait Nearly 2 hours and are told when you ring it is on it's way then the driver is really rude it's time to go somewhere else I won't be going back

We have ordered food tonight and the value was over £50 the food took1hour and 25minutes to turn up and when it did arrive the driver was rude and complaining because there was no tip given we use this takeaway regularly but will not be using it again because of the service we recived from the driver and over the phone when we wanted to complain

Helpful service but not great food. Our king prawn and chicken with garlic butter did not contain a single prawn or any taste of garlic while our crispy shredded beef was pretty tough and not crispy at all.
