Wrekenton Chop Suey in Gateshead

This has been my favourite Chinese for many years but I haven’t been for quite some time until tonight. The soft noodles were the driest, tasteless noodles I’ve ever had and the chips were dark brown and tasted like they had been reheated - ABSOLUTELY disgusting! It’s fair to say I will NOT be returning!😡🤮

Just bought some prawn toast with sauce. 4 little pieces of toast for £5 that I would feed to my dog. Won't be using this place again.

This has always been my favourite Chinese just picked my order up 6 30 special chop suet rice nd chips it was awful not nice at all so bland nd the chips were horrible normally there the best don’t no if there is a new chef if so needs sacked unfortunately I won’t be ordering again

This iz the best place 2 be. Everything fresh, the back garden has a variety of animals including chickens and duck so they get caught and cooked on the same day. One time I was standing in the waiting area and a duck came running through from the kitchen, I was pua buckled like, it said qwack and I said hea you dafty get back in the kitchen nuw. It looked at me and said qwak and I said didn't be cheeky to me or Al break ya beak man ha ha. Ran off the little mug. Anyway duck with pancaked is leeful.

The food was amazing the whole family enjoyed our meal highly recommended fast delivery too.

Absolutely gutted! Usually the food is lush and really looked forward to my Chinese delivery! My chicken chow mein tasted extremely salty! Couldn’t eat it! Considering that was the main part of my meal I was so disappointed!

Decided to try this Chinese for the first time, omg what amazing food, I have eaten in Chinese takeaways up and down the country amd this is deffinatly up there with the top rated for flavour . The food was piping hot once it arrived home, thank you Wrekenton Chop Suey

I foolishly decided to give this another try and after 1.5 hours of waiting for it to be delivered, unfortunately it was so bad it ended up in the bin. Horrible food.

1st time I tried here after years away and found a chicken or fish?! ball in the fried rice (which I let it go) as luckily I'm not a vegetarian or allergic!!!!! So I decided to give it another shot this time I was sent far too spicy prawn toast - I was unable to enjoy my meal and requested a credit refund from just eat but their response is all restaurants have different takes and versions of food and ingredients. My understanding of prawn toast is bread, prawns and sesame seeds. I'm no chef but haway man! So to say the least I am very disappointed.

I love the food from here but looking at other Chinese menus I think you should have a special on once a week Danny’s kitchen does on a Wednesday and it’s beautiful

Warning...I use this Chinese few times a week. As soon as three of us tasted it thought it was noodles at first UNTIL bit the CHICKEN BALLS NASTY and the curry. So rang them up,. I told him this was deflo Monday nights warm up I think you can tell when CHICKEN 🐔🐔 is off.. There customer service is to send a driver out to try it lol poison them

Been told that this is the best in Gateshead so I’ve tried it a few times to give it a chance. Each time the food gets worse. If this is the best in Gateshead I’d hate to try the others. How they get away with serving such disgusting food is a mystery. Simply awful

First time ive orderd from here its the worse chowmien i have ever had full of peas and carrots n for it being house special all i had was chicken n prawns dont no where the bean sprouts were hiding ( might of been pork in there but cudnt tell differance) chips were nearly black and then took hour n half to be delivered wont be ordering from there again

Oozing Cheesey omelette is delicious. Unfortunately when u share and cut in half. One get more than the other. Spare ribs were lovely but unusual. Come in a tray full of little square ribs. Beautiful Cantonese sauce. Chips were nice n soft. Took a star off because the veg rolls arrived soggy. They come in a tin foil n lid which don't help to keep them crispy.

I've been coming to this Chinese takeaway since I was a teenager and I'm now in my 40s! It never fails to deliver delicious food, even though management has changed over the years. They do the tastiest chips ever. Even though I now live a few miles away, Wrekenton Chop Suey House is still our go - to for Chinese takeaways, and we get one on a regular basis.

Usually a good service but to send food out cold because you ‘gave the driver too many deliveries’ is totally unacceptable not to mention inedible! Absolutely disgusted with the offer of £5 off my next order after spending £18 on food that went in the bin!

Never had a bad experience from here.. fab real chips.. fried rice is good with a decent amount of egg in it unlike some others. Curry tastes good.

Ordered my favourite, fried onion rings, normally made with fresh sliced onion dipped in batter and fried, today they were the frozen mini breadcrumb ones with minced onion in, cooked to within an inch of their lives, they were awful and the chips were dark brown and very very greasy. Very disappointed tonight.

Absolutely shocking! Was told our order would be 1 hour and it was 2 hours before it got here. Part of the order was wrong and was practically cold when we got it. Never again.

Absolutely disgusted at tonight's attitude. After using the same takeaway for 2 years a 2 hour wait for food was not good, then we get told another 45 mins. A extremely rude owner them came on to tell us we were in a que. Explained we only rang because we were told that it would be around 1hr, we asked why were tlod 1hr if its was nearly 3hrs wait and his answer was that if we were not happy he would not be taking any orders in future due to us being too far away.!!!! DISGUSTING ATTITUDE AND NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. VERY VERY LET DOWN AND DISSAPOINTED

The best Chinese takeaway in the Washington/Gateshead area in terms of food quality. Would be a 5 had the delivery service been good and had we not ordered on 2020 Christmas eve. We were left waiting 40 minutes in the cold outside the shop, after being told our food was running late, with no update as to how long the order would take. They clearly took on far too many orders for the night. There was numerous customers who experienced the same. I would avoid on peak days, we will be. The food however will keep us going back.

Been using this takeaway since I was a kid 40yrs my parents used it and av continue to use it but tonight I had a 2hr wait for delivery the food was cold and driver knocked on the door left the delivery and got back in his car before I even got to the door food is always nice and granted delivery can be longer than most places but tonight they were 1hr late, honestly last time I'll be using them

Ordered meal at 6pm, rang at 8pm to be told that it had been delivered (it hadn’t)! Was told they’d send a fresh one and that didn’t materialise either. Not recommended at all!!

Always good food but always busy so always plan to go sooner than you want or order soon as possible because delivery times can often be around 1hr

Absolutely first class food and service

Food was nice, delivery 15 mins ova, driver lovely, but need to do Cantonese sauce in tubs as extras bit dry.

I think it comes down to luck with who is doing the cooking and which ingredients they are using at the time as sometimes the food can be absolutely delicious and at other times it seems like you have been given stuff which they had lying around for a while. Too inconsistent and I would not order on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday as they do not seem to be able to keep up with the orders so you could be waiting for quite a while for your food. I remember this place from years ago when it was run by a guy called Peter and everything was lush - even the simple gravy and chips which had their own special taste and now it is just made from gravy salt which you could do at home. So sad to see it go like this.

I’ve alway ate from here however tonight two out of the three meals were terrible! Crispy noodle dish no taste, hot and spicy which is there chef special not spicy and we order this often so know the difference. SAD ☹️

Booked food for within the hour, after an hour I checked on time, they said 25 mins so I asked what happened to the within an hour time? He said fine I'll cancel it and hung up! So I'm sitting here hungry hoping they go bust, amazing customer service.

Usually this takeaway is exemptually and one never has cause to complain.I got chicken fried rice with a carton o curry sauce and for some reason found the rice and chicken not of usual standard. Perhaps it was me and what I'd had to drink or eat before hand but I felt I had to leave it Think I'll maybe get chicken curry with fried rice which give me what I want and be a bit cheaper.

Always great. Moved away from it but still prefer to drive back to it as it's better than any of the 5 or 6 Chinese takeaways in Birtley.

Absolutely amazing food .you have a bit of a wait but its well worth it seeing as the food is freshly cooked to order..all the food is delicious but my favourite has to be the chips and curry..really takes me back to when I was a kid.just how i remembered it good fresh delicious food every time...would highly recommend..also the price is well balanced and really worth it..will definitely be getting my food from here from now on. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rotten! Ordered house special curry what came was I think chicken curry but the meat was a browny grey colour, there was no prawns or big slices of meat just onions and small bits of unidentified what I think was chicken but the colour was braony grey! The chips were half cooked. I am fuming I would not feed this to my dog

Nicest Chinese takeaway ever , unfortunately I no longer live in gateshead, still yet to find a Chinese takeaway that is nearly as nice.

Every time I place an order and they repeat it back it’s wrong,, When I go pick it up and get home it’s wrong.. I have to ring them and take it back.. Tonight I asked for a beef fried rice, spare ribs in gravy and salt and chilli chicken wings, I wanted it for when my husband was getting in from work so when I opened the cartons I didn’t get beef fried rice that I asked for, I got a mushy beef chow main, where the noodles were clumped together and stodgy. My husband rang Wrekenton Chinese and they weren’t really bothered , we told them we won’t be back and they said okay. So if you’re willing to go through your money in the bin then feel free to go to Wrekenton Chinese.

Ordered from here tonight it took over hour n half to come and was not worth the wait 🤬 never again the curry sauce was just pepper loaded disgusting 🤨 Cantonese chicken so dry inedible sauce too sweet waste of money and charging for prawn crackers which were cheap n nasty 🤢 don’t waste yr money

I’ve reviewed this place in 2015 and give it a decent review but the customer service is probably the worst you’ll find anywhere basically because there a busy takeaway they couldn’t give a sh#t about customers! The sooner they realise that without customers they’ll not have a business so I now spend my money elsewhere would I go back NEVER not even if it was free

Was recommended this place and decided to give it a try. It was busy with lots of telephone orders also being placed, which I mistakenly thought was a good sign. The food was disgusting. Rubbery chicken which had a weird taste in both meals. We’re not fussy eaters but we both spat this out, and the whole lot went in the bin. Total waste of £13.50, first and last time we’ll go there. Really can’t understand how it’s so busy.

Worst Chinese’s I’ve ever had in my life!!! Absolutely disgusting would definitely not recommend to anyone!! Waited over an hour for our food to arrive and when it did I have never ate anything so rancid, after a few mouthfuls the whole meal was in the bin! After being starving and waiting over an hour for something uneatable.... was very frustrating!!

This is by far the best Chinese food in Gateshead, I’ve tried many others, nothing beats this place. Yum yum.

Visited this Chinese quite a few times and it’s always been lovely every single time, staff are friendly as well!!

Only ordered 2 x soup and prawn toast .waited an hour and a half to be handed the food without even a hello upon answering door let alone an apology for the lateness .
