Perfect lunch for a delayed Father's day! TU- worth every penny! There again a few more times. We never take photos because we are too busy tucking in! Food is great here. This time we had scouse, and steak pies, lemon trifle, vegan tart, ice cream, sticky toffee pudding, pavlova. All excellent. Tu once again. A family and friends favourite . The dog was welcomed into to "dog room " and was brought a bowl of water! Combined with a walk along Rock Ferry promenade and a walk through historic Rock Park we enjoyed a lovely day. Thank youxx November 2023 Had cocacola sticky ribs- superb but I did need my son to finish them for me. A very generous portion. Best onion rings in Merseyside! Snickers eton mess was great. TU once again for a very enjoyable experience with top class food and attentive friendly service. Those with me enjoyed vg fish and chips and lasagna. Thankyou so much😍 Latest trip on January 15th 2025 clutching our voucher for one free main given to us before Christmas. Always feel a bit awkward with free main course vouchers but there was no problem handing it in when paying the bill. This time we both enjoyed the fantastic lasagne- as good as any top notch Italian ! Served with a marvellous leaf salad and focaccia garlic bread. We also ordered a portion of the best onion rings we've ever tasted. All freshly cooked For afters we couldn't resist the mandarin trifle and toblerone Pavlova! TU very much for a fantastic meal. See you next timexx🤣🥰

We have always rated the Refreshment Rooms highly and recommended it to many of our friends. Last New Year's Eve we enjoyed Sunday lunch here which was perfectly proportioned, piping hot and delicious! This New Year's Eve we booked again for lunch and as it was midweek my dishes were selected from the Seniors Menu and were fine. However my husband thought he would take a break from meat and opted for the Vegan Roast. When it arrived, half the plate consisted of a huge pile of unappetizing sprouts and kale, served alongside 4 roast potatoes. The Vegan Roast itself was smaller than the smallest roast potato, and was made up of a small amount of mashed sweet potato and raisins - not a substantial main dish at all and a total rip-off for the price. My son had the pot roast lamb which was served with yet another pile of sprouts and kale (was the restaurant just using up vegetables leftover from Christmas?!) and a few undercooked chips. We did complain about the Vegan Roast to the waitress who said she would give our feedback to the chef and we were hoping for some recompense - a free dessert or coffee perhaps - but none was forthcoming hence this negative reviews.

We called in as a party of three for lunch on Boxing Day. As this is a popular Venice we had booked a table in advance. As we knew that they served generous portions, we did not chose a starter. Between us we ordered one portion of sticky ribs with fries and coleslaw, o d shoulder of lamb with fries and mixed vegetables plus one sous-vide duck breast with spiced cherry brandy sauce and dauphinoise potatoes. The service was speedy and all the dishes were very tasty and large! No room for dessert. Together with a round of drinks the bill came to just over £90, so £100 with a tip. We considered this good value for money. Well worth a visit.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to the Refreshment Rooms Official for their support during this time. Kev had booked a Christmas meal for his family on the 7th December, 30 of us and we'd saved up £1000 towards it throughout the year. Everytime we went in we had a meal ourselves, unfortunately i had to phone them on the 2nd to say he passed away. We had booked the private back room in Jan 24 so been planned for 11 months, I fully expected them to take some money off for short notice but without hesitation they send me all our savings back! I think it needs to recognised how amazing they where ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Lovely welcome to the restraunt All the food throughout the service was lovely and no complaints at all The only issue was the chap in charge of our tables, who seemed reluctant to want to be there or ask us for any more drinks, clear any plates or glasses throughout service. After an hour of plates on the table, another person who could've been the chef came in to take our desert order he looked and stilled ignored the two fully full tabels and focused on the other table. When he eventually came with one desert at a time, he plonked it on the table and walked away. When he came back with the manager (I assme) helping with the deserts, she looked rather annoyed to see all the plates, no clean spoons for the meal. Overall lovely place, food but annoying that the service could've been more slick.

Lovely place with a good, varied menu. As others have said, prices are more expensive than some places but the food is of high quality with a focus on local produce . I started with the charcuterie board then a fabulous steak and ale pie with chips. We were there for a family meal. The staff were friendly, attentive and great with the young kids. Good beer garden for warmer days. Nice walk along the waterfront too afterwards. My friend and I visited the refreshments rooms for lunch while working locally. It was a sunny November's day. The refreshments rooms are located in a very interesting area on the banks of the river Mersey l. It was my first visit. Upon entering, a young lady at reception was very welcoming and directed us to a nice table. The interior decor is very interesting, with lots of pictures on the walls. The dining area is well appointed, too. Regarding the menu and food, there's a good selection of dishes available to suit most people. We ordered the scouse. It was delicious 😋 and priced reasonably. Overall, we really enjoyed our impromptu visit to this eatery. It's well worth a visit, and the areas are interesting to explore, too. I'll definitely be back 👌🏿

Visited Tuesday 29th Oct for a late lunch. A good selection of menus on offer, ie standard full price, lite bites, over 60’s and home comforts which is served from 3pm on Tuesdays. Basically the same food offered on the standard full price, but for the others smaller portion sizes. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our choices from the over 60’s menu. So 3 courses each of beautifully cooked food, with wine and coffees £60.33. Due to being a coeliac, I also require gluten free food and can safely say it’s easy for me to eat here, without becoming ill. The staff were brilliant! attentive and polite as usual. Thank you to all staff at the Refreshment Rooms and see you again soon 😊 Suzanne

Been here a few times for lunch and knew the food and service was good. Fancied the roast dinner for a while and finally got to try it today. This is my first 10/10 roast dinner review. We like to cook at home so are hard to please with certain things but the dinner here was honestly exceptional, only slight issue was not enough gravy but asked for more and it was brought straight away and not charged for like some places. We both tried the 3 meats, you get LOADS of roasties and they are decent size and crispy like your Nan made them. The veg was all plentiful, fresh and beautifully cooked and the cauli cheese was cooked perfectly. Honestly no complaints, you defo don’t need a starter as the portions are decent and you can save space for one of the lovely puddings. I had baileys creme brule and he had the cheese cake and both were gorgeous. We parked up and walked to port sinking river park along the river pathway before we ate which was a lovely and quiet little ramble to work up the appetite! Service excellent, mixture of younger staff and older guard helping the place to run smoothly. Thanks to the team for a fab meal!

Had a great family meal here! The food is delicious, (large portions, so don't over-order), and so are the cocktails. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful. The restaurant is all on one level, so accessible, including the toilets. They have a beautiful garden, with outside seating for the good weather, and an awning protecting part of it. They also have a kitchen garden, where they grow some of the ingredients. The menu is not too extensive to be manageable, and changes from time to time. There are themed nights, which can get very busy. They have a separate menu for over 60s, and an allergy menu. The decor is shabby chic/vintage, with paintings and photos of local places. It is not the easiest place to find, but well worth it. I recommend that you book well ahead if you want to visit on the weekend.

This was our second time here and our first for food, so we were looking forward to our meal as we'd had a long journey, to get the ferry to Belfast. However, our initial greeting was poor and not very friendly by the front of house gentleman, so not a good start. The rest of our server's were lovely and friendly, so that helped it to 3*. The food was lovely but very pricey, but that seems to be the norm these days, we also ordered an extra drink which didn't arrive, so another disappointment in the whole experience. As for the atmosphere that was okay due to it being a Saturday night, it was always going to be lively.. Will we go again? No is the answer, would we recommend? Sadly no, in our opinion this place may have lost its way and needs a refreshment, (pardon the pun), but no different from many other venues we have gone to recently.

Came here for the Seniors Lunch yesterday. There were 6 of us & we all had 3 courses. We found the ambience to be very pleasant & relaxing. One of the party was a local history buff & told us about the former life of the place. There are photos on the walls of this if anyone wants to know more. The staff were all very helpful, friendly & polite & the service was smooth. There was a good range of choices for us & the portion size was ideal for “mature” folk with smaller appetites. The food was piping hot, well cooked & beautifully presented. The kitchen staff obviously know their trade well. The cost was £23 each which included a tip, coffee & a soft drink. I thought that was excellent value in the current times. I was so delighted with my experience that I asked to speak to the manager so I could convey my feelings to her. I also promised I would write a review & so here it is.

Came for a spontaneous Sunday lunch, place was just starting to get busy but were given a table in the garden room which was light and airy and lovely comfy seats. My partner had the chicken roast and I had the lamb, smaller portion option, which was actually not that much smaller than the regular sized plate so was plenty. The food was beautiful with the lamb so tender it just melted in the mouth. Looking at other plates being served around us we both said we'd definitely come back to try other dishes. We were in the area and.opted for lunch at The Refreshment Rooms, parking was easy. On entering we were greeted warmly and seated quickly, it's so nice to see a pub that's kept it's history instead of stripping it all away for the carbon-copy approach. We opted for ham hock and caramelised onion quiche with new potatoes, salad and slaw, also bacon and brie panini, fries, salad, an acceptable wait time gave us a chance to chat to the lovely lady who seated us, again such a nice change to have someone actually engage with us as customers. Our server was pleasant, I'm abit old skool so I'd politely suggest leaving the gum for when you're not serving, thankyou. Food was presented nicely and looked appetising, we weren't disappointed, the quiche meal was very tasty as was the bacon and brie, we don't usually opt for dessert but the jaffa cake trifle sounded moreish - it was! Prices are reasonable and it's refreshing to have a business that obviously has a chef who takes pride in their work. The phone hardly stopped ringing and the place was filling up as we left so I would suggest booking a table particularly at weekend. Our only downside was that we couldn't stay longer although we did have a wander down the slipway before the rain set in, we enjoy places that keep it real. Great job, thankyou for an enjoyable visit.
