Popped in here whilst walking my dog in the area, opened tripadvisor up and seen the reviews were decent so thought I would give it a try. It was around 1230pm on Sunday and the place was already full!! Usually a good sign! They said they could only fit me-in if I sat outside (it was raining ☔️) but they said it’s undercover so I opted for this. Had the trio of meat roast dinner and it was delicious lovely al dente veg great roasters and lovely tender meat all washed down with a Shiraz. Dog friendly

Fantastic Sunday roast. Outstanding service- always someone on hand, very happy to help. Staff are really happy and great! Can see why this place is so well reviewed. Sunday roast was amazing, massive portion. We went at around 7:30pm when you can easily feel like staff want to get off and you get the last of the days food. But this place did the total opposite. We had a lovely time and will definitely be making this our regular spot!

Fantastic service, with reasonably priced & ultimately delicious, well presented food. Although we came midweek it was still quite busy, so definitely best to book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Came here for the Seniors Lunch yesterday. There were 6 of us & we all had 3 courses. We found the ambience to be very pleasant & relaxing. One of the party was a local history buff & told us about the former life of the place. There are photos on the walls of this if anyone wants to know more. The staff were all very helpful, friendly & polite & the service was smooth. There was a good range of choices for us & the portion size was ideal for “mature” folk with smaller appetites. The food was piping hot, well cooked & beautifully presented. The kitchen staff obviously know their trade well. The cost was £23 each which included a tip, coffee & a soft drink. I thought that was excellent value in the current times. I was so delighted with my experience that I asked to speak to the manager so I could convey my feelings to her. I also promised I would write a review & so here it is.

Gorgeous hidden gem located in rock ferry/ bebington the food here is absolutely gorgeous only let down was the cutlery not cleaned and polished properly and having little stains just lets the place down a little bit as its such a good spot and service always is good will still definitely come again

Better than I was hoping for. Sunday roast is a favourite of mine, and despite being a regular at this restaurant it was the first Sunday roast we had eaten here, It tasted as good as it looked! 6 fresh vegetables, crispy roast potatoes and roast lamb that fell apart it was so tender. With the most delicious crispy Yorkshire pudding balanced on top! The staff were pleasant and hard working.

Food was Great. Staff were fantastic and more than willing to help you with anything you need. My partner is VEGAN …. Staff and Chef were Excellent and helpful towards helping her choose her meal… Highly Rated Restaurant and it deserves it high accolades. I been to many restaurants around the world from Thailand to Barbados and USA..and most European cities since we love to travel around. My Experience here at this restaurant … The Refreshment Rooms in Wirral… is up there amongst the best I been too… We like it so much we had Breakfast next morning here as well… Check it out … if you in Wirral or around Liverpool….

Previously this place I would have said it was okay from previous experience. This occasion horrible service from the man who served us. Kids menu food was terrible. Main menu to much going on long waits.

This is a excellent place to eat, incredible food, good service and a friendly atmosphere. We lovely this place and meals cost around 15 to 30 pounds. Unfortunately did not take any pictures as the food was to taste to waste the time.

An all time favourite restaurant, outstanding food and excellent value for money - especially the Over 60s menu! Staff are always friendly,helpful and welcoming, the food is locally sourced and beautifully prepared and presented.

Very disappointed came Tuesday 10th for lunch. Meals were not good small portions and Luke warm expensive and quality poor. Used to be great but definitely not the same. So won’t be going back.

The food was excellent, and my husband, who is quite picky, thoroughly enjoyed the lamb. He complemented the chef it was so nice ,we were very happy and recommend a visit .

We are often visitors of this great restaurant / pub which serves a lovely selection of drinks including still cider from Rosies (Llangollen). The food is always very good, and normally a very generous portion size we came recently for my birthday and had the squid starter and the muscles starter although these were both very tasty the portions were quite small compared to other places especially for the price. The Sunday roast beef was delicious and very generous size which made up somewhat for the squid and muscles portions. We hope to be back again soon as the food and drinks are great with lovely staff x

Great food and service today. Quite peaceful as well so we were quite luck. Vegan roast was well liked as was the trio of meats Roast (beef, Lamb, pork belly) my son had the gluten free rib which where amazing

Excellent, we were blessed with good weather to be able to sit outside, choice of covered or not. Friendly lunchtime service that was surprisingly quick, after order at the counter, for the group of ten that descended on them. Everyone very satisfied with their meal and it was nice to see that vegetable/ salad items were being sourced from the attached kitchen garden. Will visit again later this summer.

The food was poor for the price

Stopped In on the way to the ferry place was really busy managed to get a table we told the waiter we where a bit pressed for time drinks where quick as was our meals staff where great reasonably priced great food will return on our next visit

Stopped off on the way home from the football on Sunday evening. I'd seen the good reviews and thought we'd give it a go. Absolutely brilliant. Really lovely, friendly service from everyone we spoke to. Had the small roast pork ... excellent. Just the right amount of food. Loved the sweet potato mash. Fabulous crisp veggies. Excellent roasties, and melt-in-the-mouth pork. We will definitely make this a regular stop on the way home from games next season!

Wonderful atmosphere for a large family get together

I had the fish and chips,and it was amazing. They do have over 60s deal,the food was delicious and the staff were lovely and very helpful and friendly,unfortunately I didn't take a photo,so please take my word 😉

Terrible experience throughout. Visited on May 1st. I'd like to preface this review by saying that I have been coming to this place for years and always recommend it to friends and family. I believe in supporting local businesses but this experience will change that. Arrived to meet some friends who had been seated outside as it was busy inside. I was unaware they had been asked to pay before receiving their food so walked in the door to be greeted by an unwashed looking scruff of a 'manager' who looked me up and down like he'd just wiped me off his shoe. Arse hanging out of his jeans and a scruffy t-shirt. I told him I was with a table outside and he said to go to the bar. I assumed they had an open table so just said to the bar staff to put my order on the bill. She looked bewildered so I repeated my order then the manager came over and when I explained I just wanted to order and put it on the bill he said aggressively 'we don't do tabs' which added to the confusion. Implying I had an attitude. I ordered a drink and a pizza and went outside assuming they would add it to the bill. Before I could get outside he had already walked out to my friends outside saying 'where's that man who is with you' ? I got outside and my friends told me that they had been asked to pay before getting their food, so I walked back in and promptly paid my bill all the while being stared at by this 'manager'. The usual manager who works here is friendly. polite and knows how to treat customers. I thought I was valued customer and I had money to spend. We cut our night short and went elsewhere to finish our evening. I won't be returning in a hurry. I think someone needs to learn some people skills and not take customers for granted. As a representative of the business I wouldn't want you as first contact as you blatantly have a contempt for your (ex) customers.

Another fab steak, the jumbo onion rings are crispy and full of flavour. We would highly recommend. Restaurant quantity food, no mistake!!

Really nice food, lovely staff.

This is a pub that you probably have never really walked past, as it's at the dead end at the Rock Ferry waterfront. But it always seems to be busy so quite a few people have gone out of their way to find it, and it's well worth finding. The meals they create are superb. The pensioner's special lunch is very good value for money. Today we had Pate and toast starter, chilli for mains and cheese board for dessert. All three courses were excellent and came to well less than £20. They also have a great range of beers and ales. Service is very quick and I've never had to wait long to be served.

The refreshment rooms was recommended to us. It was a great experience in terms of service as staff were friendly and attentive. The menu is original and varied and you will be spoilt for choice. As vegetarians we were certainly not disappointed with what was on offer and the vegan roast with all its trimmings was superb. . So looking forward to our next visit !

My only regret is that I haven't been sooner. Possibly the best roast I've had in my life, let alone eating out. Decided to be a bit of a piggy, and I went for the trio of meat roast dinner. You'd think it was expensive at £21 but when you see the sheer amount of food, and then taste the top notch quality, well, £21 is a bargain. The standout for me was the veg, which was cooked to perfection. Broccoli, spinach, and mange tout made up most of it, but there was a carrot and swede purée that was really truly special. Really nice touch by bringing out three sauces to accompany the meat - mint for the lamb, horseradish for the beef, and apple for the pork. I could wax lyrical about the food all day but finally want to mention the staff. They squeezed us in on a busy Sunday evening without a reservation at peak time, and service was excellent. Everyone was super friendly. Atmosphere was great. This is somewhere you could take your mates, and also take your nan. Maybe at the same time. We will be back.

Found this pub on our way back to liverpool from Cheshire oaks what a find,obviously we hadn't booked beforehand and it was about 4pm Saturday afternoon so didn't know if we were going to get a table ,we entered the pub and right away it was busy with just a few vacant tables told the guy on front desk we hadn't booked but he offered us a table which he said needed back for 5.30pm ,he sat us down took our drinks order while we checked the menu and special board drinks then arrived and we placed our order for food I ordered the vermicelli pulled chicken and soft noodles from special board and my partner ordered the coca cola ribs after about 10 to 15 minute wait our meals arrived and WOW WOW the ribs were absolutely massive and juicy with lovely skinny fries and homemade coleslaw mine was the noodles and chicken and it was absolutely delicious probably the best I have tasted and that includes Chinese restaurants, I even had to finish some of my partners ribs because it was too much for her, again the best I have tasted all in all what a find the food was unbelievable and not to expensive either the staff were all very friendly and accommodating especially the bloke who works the front desk ,on our way out he told us if we ever fancied sunday lunch to definitely book beforehand has it gets very busy on that day ,people were phoning up for Sunday bookings while we were waiting for our food so it is a very popular place for Sunday dinner, next time we're on the wirral that's were we will be going for out tea a total Hidden gem. As always a wonderful delicious meal in a welcoming environment. Very friendly staff. An amazing jewel in an otherwise rundown Wirral waterfront. Just so unusual but always excellent service and excellent food.

I took my best friend for her special birthday as I had heard how good it was but wether we caught them on an off day I hope that was the case I had my dog with me around 4pm and we were ushered into a quiet part of the pub? And placed on a small table right on the bar and till station there were plenty of tables we could have been put on the food was presented and at no point did anyone ask if it was ok I was not happy with mine but said nothing and my friend was afraid to say as I was treating her but I looked at her plate and knew she was not happy when the waitress came to take our plates we told her and she said she was sorry!! £60 later she gave us a token!!! Loyalty thing if we visited so many times we could get £12.00 by this time we just wanted to leave not planning a return most disappointing experience

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Food was amazing, atmosphere was great and service was very good with a genuine touch. The only tiny complaint is the drinks a bit on the expensive side.

Probably the best restaurant I’ve been to. It’s difficult to beat the food here, the food is consistently amazing whenever you visit. Simply a pleasure visiting this place. Highly recommend.

We went for lunch on Easter Monday. We chose the lamb roast. I have to say it was the best roast I have ever had in a restaurant. Far better than at other local restaurants and at a great price. The sticky toffee pudding with custard was also sublime. The food and the staff are always outstanding but this was on another level! Will definitely go back for more!!

My wife and my mother in law and I have dined at the Refreshment Rooms on previous occasions either together, or with friends and have always enjoyed excellent service matched by great food and drink. We moved from Wirral to North Wales 6 years ago so visits have been rare. However we were in Wirral today 3rd April and we now have two small Cockapoos and not everywhere accepts dogs. We called the Refreshment Rooms to see if dogs were allowed and, yes they do (well behaved ones). We were thrilled to find this and the quality of the food and service has remained top notch so all boxes were ticked so we will visit much more often in the future Highly recommended

Excellent food at competitive prices

Booked for dinner tonight, there was a slight problem with our food order, but this was rectified really discreetly, efficiently and without issue. We had the steak pie and roast lamb, it was absolutely delicious!!! Can't wait to visit again, thanks ☺️

Loved the Refreshment rooms we went as a family of 8 for breakfast food was lovely with a good choice great service will definitely go back for there other meal menu's they look so good..we all had a little walk along the little promenade after our breakfast so nice little location 😁

We all LOVE this place! Never ever been disappointed. We enjoy bubbles with our breakfast as a treat and the staff are just wonderful looking after us so well!. Food just stunning, served on red hot plates with plentiful toast & butter. We love all the food here as we enjoy lunch/evening meal too. It’s just fabulous - the quality of food is outstanding. The setting is like a throwback in time and your dining experience is always 5*! Be back soon

I've noted a distinct drop in the quality of the fish of late. I ordered the large at £16 but I got a fish finger. The sauce was weak and watery and the chips were rather like concrete. However, the staff and service was top class as always.

An unusual but very charming and characterful establishment...the food is varied and tasty and was given 5 stars by my very exacting mother...very deserved...Will be returning soon...

A lovely place with a fantastic atmosphere. We went for our Christmas Meal and had a wonderful time. The food was very nice and tasty and felt home-made and not off the Christmas conveyor belt.

Lovely pub, the manager opened up for us even though we were too early. We only had hot drinks but all our party of 7 were really pleased with service and quality of drinks. Lovely setting by the river.

Traveled from North Yorkshire to try the slow roast lamb shoulder aferr it came highly recommended. Amazing! Food was top knotch and the service was outstanding, very friendly welcome and well looked after by all the staff. Well worth the journey and will definitely be back to try lots of the other dishes.

What a lovely Sunday lunch. Everyone was pleasant and one is never disappointed. So much so we try to visit often. We returned the following week for lunch in the week and again food was lovely. We never noticed the little extra time it took for our meal to come but the manager came over and said they were sorry it had taken a few minutes longer than it should have. Nice touch, and free drinks were offered and accepted. Give this place a go.

Great restaurant with delicious food and friendly staff

So we ate at the Refreshment rooms today for the Second time and the standards of food, Service, Ambience, Great pint are still top draw. Me and my Fiancee live in Manchester but my in-laws live in Eastham so we travelled over today for a lovely meal at the Refreshment Rooms and we were warmly greeted by a member of staff who seated us at our table as we had reserved a table for Four of us. Me and my Father in-law had a pint of Guinness and my Fiancee and Mother in-law had bottled water, Fantastic pint of Guinness, Creamy, Smooth. For food my Mrs opted for Salmon Thermodore with greens, Which she absolutely loved, Mother in-law went for a lovely bowl of Scouse with Red cabbage and crusty bread which she really, Really enjoyed, Me and my father in-law opted for Beer battered Fish and Chunky chips with mushy peas, Which was without a doubt the best Fish and Chips I had ever eaten. Me and the Father in-law then had another Guinness(It would of been rude not to), My father in-law then opted for Ice cream for Dessert which came with a Flake and Some strawberries, Which again he devoured with ease. Service was fantastic, Polite and friendly staff, Great setting on the River Mersey, Lovely interior, Fantastic food, Fantastic service, Fantastic setting, Free Parking and a fantastic pint etc. We highly, highly recommend The Refreshment Rooms. 5☆

This Refreshment Rooms is So my fave. Went last night it was Steak night so my hubby obliged with the steak. Done to perfection. Defo having that next time. I had scouse, absolutely delicious. We both had stick toffee pudding and custard. Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff. Would 100% recommend.

Had a lovely full English breakfast on Saturday 27th January for my sons birthday.Great service and plenty of room around a large table. Good choice of breakfast food to choose from, tea and coffees were tasty and hot.

Been here a couple of times for Sunday lunch, first time for breakfast.

20 mins up the road from home, yet shamefully my first visit since they opened in 2012 for a light business lunch. Amazing lunch experience - Cheeky bowl of Muscles, with a side order of super chunky chips! YUM and the sauce on the Muscles...

Absolutely adore this place we try and visit at least once every 2 weeks every meal is always spot on and so are the staff ..best restaurant ever
