We've lived in Ossett around six years, We try to visit all the pubs regularly and this more than most as it's not far from home. It's improved since we first tried it thanks to the landlord and landlady who are friendly, chatty when you want a chat and during Covid took the right approach. The drinks are cheap compared to other locals and the old coaching inn has a great atmosphere. It closes again for lockdown this week which is a real shame as I'd like to have spent a few winter nights near the fire.

First time in 10 years visited the Red lion For sunday lunch, just a small menu choice, no sunday roast. We had the steak n ale pie and the scampi. Both very good, plenty of tender chunks in the pie and the scampi was tasty. Only small picks were too many chips on both meals and the staff were eager to clear plates etc away before all people had finished eating. Only minor details and overall it was worth 8.5 out of 10. Good choice of beer and lagers too. Worth a look Windsor 37

Called for a couple of cheeky pints and a curry after work. We’d read the reviews in the press regarding the award winning Indian food. Not any more, the indian side of the business no longer exists. However, the beer was very nice and we were warmly welcomed by the staff. Living flame fire a nice touch on a cold autumnal evening.

Went to the red lion last night. Chosen because of the good reviews. Almost left as soon as we saw the dining area, it's dismal and dirty looking, but because of the reviews we stayed. The Thalia is not that big, big enough for me but I think a man would want more food, saying that it was delicious!! I told the chef so when leaving, but also mentioned the decor, he tells me it's due for a refurb at the end of July, so shall wait and see, shame if it's not as it could be lovely. I have only rated it with one star because of the state of the place, not because of the food! Cleaned and repainted and I would give it all 5 stars.

Popped in for food and a few beers on a Saturday evening while stopping over in the area. Chosen on basis of good reviews and we were not disappointed. If I had to be picky I would say the large room off the bar area could do with a facelift, as it was dingy and distinctly 1970s in décor. Bobby sharma did me proud again! The food he produces is of a high standard! Not an ounce of fat on the lamb ! The starters are out of this world! The chicken is succulent ! The bread nice and fluffy! The rice just perfectly cooked and after you have eaten the lot you don't feel as if you have swallowed a brick which is what happens in other Indian places! Bobby is very nice polite and friendly! He will come round and ask if every thing is ok ! He will make sure anything is done to make your meal as enjoyable as possible!! This review is not based on 1 meal but a visit and enjoyable evening nearly every weekend! The pub is very cosy and interesting because of its age! Worth while trying it out!! called in on saturday 25/02/17 with the wife to try the indian thali after a very good recommendation from a work colleague,we arrived at 18.40 and could see from the outside how popular this pub was it was packed.first impressions of the red lion were very good and my views never changed in the time we spent there.right on to the meal we ordered two thali meals and a portion of chips which are extra and the cost was £17.98 for the meals and £2 for the chips we didn't have to wait long for the meals to arrive and when they did they didn't disappoint well presented on a metal dinner tray with 3 currie dishes nan salad&side; dishes.the 3 dishes were a lamb currie full of flavour and meat that melted in your mouth the 2nd dish was chicken which again was perfect and with a bit of a kick and the 3rd was spicy chick peas with rice all this for £8.99 is excellent value and would cost you a lot more at a currie house.we enjoyed the night so much we are going back next week.thanks for a very good meal and excellent hospitality.

Just to let people know that currently (December 2016) the Red Lion does NOT serve food, it is however a warm welcoming traditional local pub, with a good range of beers. I have been coming here regularly for a monthly meeting of our bike club for several years, and can honestly say that it is cleaner and better kept now than it has been for a long time. If you want to contact them, the number is 01924 274338. Unfortunately as a previous owner set up the contact details they are shown wrong and it is difficult to get them changed.

I waited 35 minutes for a sausage roll. Never came. Keep your £3, and I'll keep the £300 I would have spent over the next year. Won't be coming back. This is the second time in two months that my order hasn't arrived. Edit: I can't reply to the below response. I did speak to you. The dark haired waitress, who couldn't have cared less. Just said "that's alright" with her back turned to me. I then waited another 15 minutes. As mentioned above, it's not the first time food hasn't arrived, so I'm done.

Poor, I ordered a sausage sandwich for collection with brown sauce , I didn’t get the brown sauce and all sausages were burnt one side and still alive on other side . The only good thing was they let me off 50pence as there card machine wasn’t working so I paid with the cash I had on me (£6.50) should of been £7 but the sandwich has gone straight in the bin I didn’t even want to take a bite to try it !
