My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely snack here yesterday. Coffee and food really good and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning.

I will not return. I was having a cigarette outside which to my knowledge is allowed at the moment. Usually go and stand a little bit away on the grass, however I was tired today. A member of staff came.out and said you can't smoke outside because people are eating. There was nobody eating btw. To my knowledge it is not your.plsce to say can't smoke.outside. over priced, boring menu, and those sausage rolls are disgusting., just put them in.microwave dry as.a bone. Go to Greg's far vetter

You must stop here on your visit to Sandal Castle. The cafe has delicious food, drinks, great view of the castle ruins and excellent service by the friendly, helpful staff. Easy access from the castle ruins, the road or the car park. Full of history, the walls of the cafe are lined with boards telling you everything you need to know and about the 1460 Wakefield Battle! I highly recommend you drop in when you are in Wakefield.

I really like this cafe. Have been a few times now and the food has always been great with the level of service superb. Dog friendly too which is always a bonis. Well done to all involved.

Nice atmosphere to relax and chill at. Good food from breakfast to homemade cakes and decent ice cream selection. Nice to sit and enjoy the doggie companions

Half way point on a long walk. Good strong coffee, good Yorkshire Tea and delicious home made scones. Very friendly staff and reasonable prices. Definitely worth another visit soon.

The good: very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere and location. It was busy, so obviously popular. Not so good: disposable cups even when sitting in (maybe I'm old-fashioned but if I go to a cafe for a drink I want a proper cup!), not much healthy stuff with salad or veg on the menu.

This cafe is amazing! My gym buddies and I go there once a month for a breakfast treat. The staff are lovely and very friendly. The food is absolutely cracking and you get lots. It's always busy, which in my book is an excellent sign. Give it a try... I guarantee you will love it 😀

Run down cafe - found a hair in the desert. Staff very miserable. If you visit this castle do not waste your money - bring your own drink and food - you have been warned. Steer clear!

Got a takeout bacon, sausage & mushroom sandwich and it was absolutely unreal - they were super busy but it was worth the wait and the staff were lovely 🥰 Can’t wait to go back!

Gluten free choice for a rare change, cake and food were very good, busy place so service was slow which loses it a star.

First time visiting here from down South after a walk to and around the castle. Lovely atmosphere with friendly staff. Enjoyed a slice of Gluten Free Bakewell Tart and a cuppa. Recommend if you're in the area.

Popular little cafe near the castle. Really busy when I went, full of walkers, cyclists etc, nice atmosphere. Food was delicious and good coffee too

We are a family run dog friendly is how it is described . Not exactly our experience based on today . Over the past few weeks I have visited the cafe with my young anxious cockapoo. Progressing to sitting inside . The girl with long dark hair been kind enough to say when he’s wined not to worry they are all young and have to learn . Today as a family we choose to visit for Sunday breakfast after walking round the castle . We chose a table in the corner . Our dog with it been busier was slightly more anxious than normal and started to bark , still sat with us we attempted to calm him down. From within the cooking kitchen area came the shout across the cafe of stop your dog from barking . This for all the cafe to hear . The embarrassment I and my family felt for everyone then looking in our direction made me anxious , which our young dog picked up on . Then trying to over fuse him to stop and picking up on our anxiety he barked again. To be yelled from the kitchen area again . At this point my husband took him outside to sit. We then all choose to eat outside (no issues with the food at all was very nice ) . When a lad did come to see if food was ok , I expressed my distress at been shouted at across a counter for all to hear instead of the gentleman who chose to bellow at us coming to our table and asking us to keep him calm . No apology or acknowledgment to what i was saying was made . The whole experience means no matter how good the food is we won’t be returning. The issue been how we were spoken to , or should I say yelled at.

The best latte I’ve had for ages and the bacon & egg butty was excellent. I only live down the road so I don’t think it will be my last visit. Keep up the good work 👍

Often go to this place with my daughter who is disabled. It is good fresh cooked food and the cake's are well so so good. You won't be disappointed if you pay a visit... Gets five stars from us⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😁

Visited 10 September and enjoyed delicious high quality good value food from the wide menu options. All staff were very welcoming, pleasant and happy and nothing was too much trouble for them. A fab place to visit and enjoy.

This is a belated post due to us going on holiday the day after we visited here... We had just had a great little breakfast- huge fresh tea-cakes, good bacon and golden eggs along with strong coffee and a mug of tea when disaster struck...our poor puppy was very very ill in the car and these guys sprang into action when I had to go an ask for help. They rallied brilliantly, despite this being our first ever visit; because of this it will not be our last! #superheroesinaprons

A lovely little family run business who really make you feel at home every time you visit and appreciate regular return customers. Food is always handmade and fresh, this place is perfect for drinks or an icecream on a hot day too! Will always be back!

Fantastic local cafe, dog friendly, staff very warm and welcoming, food is the best, great Yorkshire Breakfast, really nice slow cooked sandwiches and best of all home baked scones and cakes. If you like a good cafe you won't go far wrong coming here.

I called here yesterday with my daughters. It was passed the closing time but they still served us. The bakewell scones are delicious and a game changer for scones as we know them. They even gave us one each when we were leaving as they would have been thrown away as they make them fresh each day. In a beautiful setting and run by lovely people. 😊

Well needed cafe in a very cold location. They do some basic food and some basic coffee but exactly what you need after a nice walk around the castle.

Chance visit with friends as we walked past. Great service, a really friendly welcome, lovely variety of cakes and drinks. Make sure you try the chocolate and orange scone (recommend the assiete too). Came away feeling good with the world.

My first visit. Just had a drink. But there is a good selection of food on the menu +cakes. Sit inside or out. Would recommend to all. +fab views of the ruined castle

Best cafe I've ever been to. Food menu seems a bit limited but that may just be down to covid rules etc. Having said that, the quality is brilliant! Lots of homemade cakes, pies, sweets to choose from. The homemade sausage rolls are divine! Excellent choice of cafe if you have allergies as they can cater from foods on the menu or you can request prior.

Really helpful and accommodating for our group of 7 that went mid morning for a birthday celebration which they helped make special with candles and a birthday banner. Good and friendly service and nice cake and coffee.

One of the best in the area,my wife and I use it all the time.

Arrived late, but still got drinks and take out food. As they were closing, were given free scones. Can imagine that at peak times the cafe will be very busy, as they stock hot/cold drinks, daily specials and alcohol.

I had wanted to visit Sandal Castle for many years and because my car was being serviced in Wakefield I decided to walk up to the castle to kill time. So glad I did but particularly the Castle Cafe needs special mention as it was a lovely experience. The service, atmosphere and the food was literally superb. It's probably the best hot sandwich I have ever had. Locally sourced produce was clearly evident. Lovely Latte too and water. The cafe is a real gem, cant wait to revisit you, the full breakfast next time, many thanks. 😀

The people working there are such nice people, great manners and will take the time to chat and check how getting on. The prices are fair and the products are delicious. We enjoy walking up for a coffee and treat regularly. Highly recommend it but be parking can be a nightmare if it is hot like today.

I was here during the last break between lockdowns and my son was very happy to get an extra piece of cake for free as unfortunately it would have gone to waste due to another lockdown the following morning. I feel so sorry for these smaller businesses, being self employed myself I know how hard things are right now. I cannot wait to revisit, and the fry up is also amazing!

Fantastic place, I've had numerous full English breakfasts here, there always really good. Today a cheeky cake with my son. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating. I hope the current pandemic doesn't cause them too many problems. Thank you

Love coming hear for breakfast, staff are lovely and brilliant that can bring my dog. Only think I would say is the veggie breakfast comes with veggie sausages that are not the best but other then that all the food taste yummy x

It was a lovely sunny October afternoon as we walked the dogs around the castle ruins and grounds. the Castle Cafe served a welcome cuppa in a safe, clean and friendly manner. We sat outside with the dogs, I am unsure if we would have been allowed inside if the weather had been inclement.

The Scone was excellent, and the Cappuccino was dreamy!

First visit but wont be the last. We ordered all day breakfast and it was delicious. After a walk round castle we had tea and homemade scones. I should have guessed it was good old Yorkshire tea, love the China cups and saucers too. Beautiful location with amazing views. Will definitely recommend to all my friends.

Lovely place to have a freshly cooked meal, snack or just a drink and cake. You can also learn a little history about the war of the roses. And of course you can walk around Sandal castle. Wonderful place. Parking is limited but free. The owners and staff are lovely and friendly. Great place to relax.

Went to meet a friend but despite a board stating "Open 7 days a week" outside the car park,it was shut. We had to go elsewhere and won't return because it says slot that they can't be bothered to take the sign down or correct it

This hidden gem, situated in the grounds of Sandal Castle, close to Pugneys Country Park, is a delight to visit at anytime during its 7 day opening hours but especially after a bracing walk around Pugneys & the Castle to ensure that the excellent and plentiful food received the justice it so rightly deserves. There is plenty of choice on the varied menu which includes a wide ranging children's menu and an all day breakfast but my friend and I opted for a daily special apiece. He partook of the Beef Pie - slowly cooked for 12 hours - which was accompanied by mash potatoes and a mountain of tasty garden peas. The pie was oozing deliciously chunky pieces of beef which my friend didn't think he would finish but he managed it such was the quality on his plate. I opted for chips that were accompanied by large portions of chilli beef with a tasty topping of cheese and every bite was sheer delight and both of these were served at exactly the right temperature, always an important factor for a meal to be fully enjoyed. Though the main meal filled us both we both opted for a desert, I had lemon meringue pie with a scoop of ice cream while my friend decided upon two scoops of ice cream from the extensive, tempting selection. There are a range of drinks available, including wine and beer and I would imagine there are fewer places in West Yorkshire to enjoy a delicious meal in convivial surroundings while a special mention must go to the friendly staff who took time our from the busy schedule to chat with customers about their experiences that day. I highly recommend both a visit to Sandal Castle but make it a must to combine it with a visit to the Castle Cafe.

Well thought out cafe, good choice of food drinks and snacks friendly staff, worth a visit after a cold but enjoyable walk. A little expensive!

Visited with friends for sunday lunch just before Christmas and enjoyed the best ever roast dinner . Amazing food and hospitality . Nothing too much trouble for the wonderful staff .

Really poor slow service. Only ordered a couple of hot drinks and waited so long sat outside had to come in to get warm. Then the drinks arrived only for one of them to be wrong. No apology and clearly was put out. Need to work on their customer service skills. Wont be back.

Great little cafe that serves fresh food and excellent homemade cakes. Coffee is second to none. Staff are friendly and the Bakewell Tart is one of the best I had!!

Food was delicious and service prompt even when busy it is wonderful with a variety of food available for tea and cake to meals or soup and variety of hot and cold drink.

I have been using this cafe for several months for a breakfast at the weekend.On each occasion I have been pleased with the experience. The sausages ,bacon and eggs are good quality and are always well cooked. If I was to be negative perhaps the staff serving could be a little more jolly. I would recommend for a good well priced breakfast.

Reasonable coffee for an average price but very disappointed to be charged 50p extra for a small jug of hot milk. I have IBS and if coffee is too strong it upsets my stomach. I always ask for extra milk and this is the first time I have ever been charged for it. Bit tight guys.
