Lovely dog friendly pub, staff were very friendly and kind, provided a dog bowl of water without us asking, then we're very kind and gave our dog a bowl of steak! If you're ever in Woodbridge and fancy a proper pint and some honest, hearty grub, do yourself a favour and pop into The Red Lion on Thoroughfare. I stopped by recently and I’ve got to say, it’s exactly what a good English pub should be: full of charm, character, and warm hospitality. The place itself is a bit of history, a beautiful old building that still carries that traditional feel with the exposed beams and cozy atmosphere, but without feeling tired or outdated. It’s clean, welcoming, and has clearly been looked after. The menu is spot on, no pretentious nonsense, just good food done well. I went for the mixed grill, and it hit the spot, full of flavour, cooked just right. I saw a couple near me tucking into the plant burger and they looked well impressed, so there’s plenty for everyone, even the veggies. Drinks-wise, they’ve got a solid selection. I stuck with a nice pint of local ale, crisp, cold, and well-pulled. There’s clearly pride taken in the cellar here, which you don’t always get these days. The staff were friendly, attentive without being over the top, just decent people making you feel welcome. It’s also a dog-friendly place, which I love, always good to see four-legged friends being treated to a bowl of water and a few biscuits. And if the weather’s nice, their beer garden is a proper treat. Plenty of space, nicely kept, and a great little suntrap to sit back and enjoy a bite with friends or family. All in all, The Red Lion in Woodbridge is everything I look for in a pub, character, quality food, decent drinks, and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. It’s the sort of place you leave already thinking about when you can come back

Took my daughter, grandson and elderly mother put for lunch at the Red Lion. We wanted somewhere accessible for my elderly mother with her walking frame. We were offered an ideal table, also near to the disabled toilet for her. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Very pleasant welcome. We all ended up ordering just the lunchtime sandwiches and wraps, and a child's meal. Very good value at only £12 for lunch and a drink each for the adults. Food is freshly prepared, and good quality. My mother's crispy battered fish sandwich was huge and with chips. The chicken wrap was nice, but could have had a little more chicken in it. The child's meal was very good homemade battered chicken nuggets and chips and peas. Overall a lovely experience for lunch out, made better by exceptional staff.

Although the food tasted good the portion size of both of the sausage and mash meals (classic and smaller portion classic) were pathetically small, the smaller classic was less that a kids size portion and the main meal what would have been expected for the smaller portion. We should have complained at the time to be fair but it really was pitiful and so spoilt our visit to Woodbridge.

Visited twice. First time was pretty quiet but that was just after Mothers Day so understandable. A typical "Town" pub but the service was good and the food was absolutely fine all done with a smile and a joke from the chef as well. Second time not quite so good, a little busier due to being Pie and pint night. We were first to check in, shown our table then seemingly forgotten until I had to call over a passing member of staff to take our order. 30 minutes later the food eventually arrived hot Chicken and Ham hock pie with mash and a dozen wrinkled peas and gravy, luckily we had the foresight to order a side of vegetables to make it go a bit further. So not as good as the first visit unfortunately.

Disappointing from the get go. The best thing I can say is that the car park is convenient. My expectations had been raised by the recent good reviews. The pub has a nice town pub feel. Unfortunately there were no cask ales available. Three pumps all dry! If the special appeals then this is my go to as it's usually a safe bet. The website had an offer of a set meal. This is out of date and had been replaced with a pie plus a drink offer. Oh well. Service was friendly and quick. Our orders were taken. I went for the special pie. A venison and panchetta pie. My wife asked for the scampi and our friend had the burger. The pie was very disappointing. 10 cm diameter max with pastry like cardboard and a filling they had managed to cook the flavour out of. Poor quality frozen peas and unseasoned mash that barely resembled the real thing. The scampi was very average. Batter too thick with the same poor quality frozen peas and chips that were probably cooked from frozen. All in all a meal to forget. All restaurants should at least be serving an option of fresh vegetables with a meal. I could do better at home for less than 1/4 of the cost.

I would give zero stars if I could. I never write reviews, but in this case, I feel it’s necessary. My partner and I booked a table for 2:30 and arrived early. While we were waiting, a man was loudly and aggressively berating a young waitress, which left a bad impression before we even sat down. For about 10 minutes, he muttered under his breath, saying things like, “She won’t get far with that attitude,” and “Why am I working here,” among other things. When our starter finally arrived 30 minutes later, it was served with two small pieces of bread that were rock hard and an overwhelming slab of pâté. The bread-to-pâté ratio was all off. My partner went to the bar to ask for more bread, given the large amount of pâté, but was met with rudeness and verbal abuse from the man, who swore at him with a very loud tone in front of the other paying customers and walked away. We felt so belittled and embarrassed that he caused this much of a scene over something we kindly requested. A woman, who I assume was the manager, quickly apologised for his behavior as she witnessed this incident but it was clear the man felt superior to the women around him and his behavior was left unchecked. We paid for our half-drunk Cokes out of common courtesy due and left. It’s hard to believe a business can thrive with such toxic behavior from an employee. As paying customers who previously enjoyed the atmosphere, I’m absolutely appalled by this experience. There needs to be some accountability and justice for the staff.

We had a very nice meal at the Red Lion on a Saturday night. The food was excellent and reasonably priced and the staff, especially the manager, were very friendly despite being one or two people down due to illness, which affected the speed of service. One of our meals was left off the order by the manager, who was very apologetic and didn’t think twice about taking it off the bill. It's a bit of a mixed bag but it has the potential to be something quite wonderful. First off the food was excellent , no real complaints on that front apart from the meal coming with chips when it stated sautéed potato's on the menu. Even then the chips arrived 5 minutes after the rest of the meal. The second slightly picky thing was that although all the staff were exceptionally polite , the dress code was casual verging on scruffy. As I say food was great but the whole experience and atmosphere could be made better with a few tweaks.

We booked online a few hours before the meal as my wife and I were both starving. We had a nice midweek meal here sometime back. We were greeted and seated efficiently with a table for two overlooking the rear of the pub. A very interesting menu but we had roasts in mind. My wife went for the beef and I had the trio - beef, pork and chicken. The plates were well dressed with spuds, carrots and a leek and cabbage mix. Together with gravy a delicious meal. We shared a dessert - apple and raspberry crumble. I reluctantly went for the smaller portion with a hot drink included in price. So I was worried when my wife said she wanted to share. However, it was actually a good portion size. We had a glass of Sav Blanc each and a coffee. Service excellent throughout. We will be back👍

Had the £12 lunch deal today. £12 gets you a pint/wine/soft drink and a light lunch meal Today there was none of the advertised ales available. No alternative was offered which was a shame. Looks like the whole pub is being re-ranged on drinks so the offer really needs updating. Pepsi had similarly been replaced by Coca Cola. Ended up with a random pint of lager. Didn’t listen too hard as to whether any of those were originally in the offer or not…. Was too cut up to find there wasn’t an ale option at all. Had a burger and chips. It was small, but delicious.

This restaurant is trying too hard and really not succeeding. Some of the items on the menu just didn't seem to make sense, e.g. a nut-free satay, and a pavlova which was not vegan or dairy-free but was served with plant-based cream. Who is that aimed at? The food was mostly well cooked but not very exciting. The large restaurant had very few people dining and apparently only one member of staff working front of house; when we arrived it took a few minutes to actually find a member of staff at all so we could be seated. After that the service was good though.

To anyone thinking of going here for lunch, don't order the "lunch time" fish and chips. It was smaller than a toddler meal! You will leave hungrier than when you arrive. The price they charge for the portion of food they give you is actually really embarrassing for the staff to have to serve up. The mushy peas came in a thimble sized sauce pot like you get at McDonald's. The fish was smaller than the palm of my hand and there were about 7 chips. Took our dogs for a long beach walk and wanted to find somewhere to stop. Extremely friendly and amazing service. They’re dog friendly and offered doggy friendly ice cream. All in all a wonderful experience. Will be coming back very soon

We were told to leave because we had an 8 week baby in a pram and they don’t allow under 18s. Ridiculous.

The coffee was absolutely perfect – rich, smooth, and just the right temperature. The food was equally impressive, with fresh ingredients and delicious flavors. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the atmosphere warm and welcoming. Highly recommend this spot if you're in the area – I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Excellent cafe with good food, good gluten free options, very helpful friendly staff and immaculately clean. The young ladies are professional, attentive and nothing is too much trouble, service with a smile. The young man is also friendly and efficient, but if I was as tall, slim and handsome as he is, I would wear shorter tighter shorts. Flaunt it whilst you can,. lol.

Love having tea or coffee or ice cream here overlooking the sea. Easy to park and friendly service from Steve and his wife. My mum and dad love it too.
