The Red Lion Woodbridge in Suffolk Coastal

Called in whilst visiting area. Great service throughout. Food was delicious and served with a smile and very little waiting. Took advantage of the offers available. Staff were attentive and very pleasant. Well worth a visit next time we are in the area. It's a credit to Woodbridge.

Quite busy on a Monday lunchtime..dog friendly. Excellent staff. Nice atmosphere. 2 real ales on.

Stopped our busy shopping day for lunch here and wasn't disappointed - although the food was piping hot and very tasty- staff very polite and efficient - won't hesitate to stop there again

We booked online a few hours before the meal as my wife and I were both starving. We had a nice midweek meal here sometime back. We were greeted and seated efficiently with a table for two overlooking the rear of the pub. A very interesting menu but we had roasts in mind. My wife went for the beef and I had the trio - beef, pork and chicken. The plates were well dressed with spuds, carrots and a leek and cabbage mix. Together with gravy a delicious meal. We shared a dessert - apple and raspberry crumble. I reluctantly went for the smaller portion with a hot drink included in price. So I was worried when my wife said she wanted to share. However, it was actually a good portion size. We had a glass of Sav Blanc each and a coffee. Service excellent throughout. We will be back👍

We were recommended this pub and my steak and ale was good as was Jenny’s frittata. Nothing exceptional but to be fair the prices are very reasonable We found the service rather over familiar. Perhaps it’s our age but being called “you guys” and “buddy” several times grated.

Had the £12 lunch deal today. £12 gets you a pint/wine/soft drink and a light lunch meal Today there was none of the advertised ales available. No alternative was offered which was a shame. Looks like the whole pub is being re-ranged on drinks so the offer really needs updating. Pepsi had similarly been replaced by Coca Cola. Ended up with a random pint of lager. Didn’t listen too hard as to whether any of those were originally in the offer or not…. Was too cut up to find there wasn’t an ale option at all. Had a burger and chips. It was small, but delicious.

Nice inside, has its own carpark. Good service, if albeit executed chaotically. Staff running around in all directions, moaning and shouting instructions. Appreciate the hustle, but probably more relaxing places to have dinner.

Convenient spot for a casual meal. 10 of us ate together, and had a good evening. Don't sit by the entrance from the car park - it's cold! Despite forgetting to place one order with the kitchen, it was quickly rectified.

We visited this lovely pub for lunch today The service was fantastic so friendly I can highly recommend the Rump steak it was cooked to perfection & the home made onion rings were mouth wateringly delicious My husband had lasagne which was adapted so he could have fries instead of salad this was served by the chef himself which spoke volumes food was outstanding we shall definitely make a return visit next time we’re in Woodbridge

Lovely pub with good atmosphere. Food was lovely - two courses for £17.50. Pan fried mushroom starter was delicious and potato frittata for main was also very tasty. We didn’t book but no problem as we were early evening although clearly a popular pub as it was busy on a Tuesday night.

We live locally and have been here several times and the food is always great. Frank the pub dog is adorable and extremely well behaved. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is trying too hard and really not succeeding. Some of the items on the menu just didn't seem to make sense, e.g. a nut-free satay, and a pavlova which was not vegan or dairy-free but was served with plant-based cream. Who is that aimed at? The food was mostly well cooked but not very exciting. The large restaurant had very few people dining and apparently only one member of staff working front of house; when we arrived it took a few minutes to actually find a member of staff at all so we could be seated. After that the service was good though.

Everything has settled down now since the post-refurbishment stampede. Good choice of food and drinks and efficient service.

The staff here are both friendly and helpful and very welcoming. The pub is very clean and has a good range of food and drink. However I ordered the mixed grill and was shocked at how small it was served with a portion of ten peas.I have never seen such a Small mixed grill and I myself would be extremely embarrassed to serve it to anyone. I paid around £18.95 for this and although it was cooked OK the value for money was not there. The only other negative of my Visit was a dog that came to our table a couple of times while we was eating. We showed many people a photo of this meal and all agreed it was not worth the price I paid and also shocked at it being sold as a mixed grill.

Just had a sunday roast beef takeaway, wasn't impressed with the quality or amount of food, lack of gravy too and I ordered extra cauliflower cheese, the beef was tough and will be in the dogs dish tomorrow morning

Shocking sunday lunch beef was as tough as a miners boot paid £ 40 for for something i could not eat if you like your food i suggest you dont waste your money in this establishment

Visiting Woodbridge for the weekend we fancied a pub lunch on Saturday afternoon. Mid-afternoon, wondering up & down the Main Street we couldn’t find a pub that was serving food. Took the decision to walk right to the end of the pedestrian area & came across the Red Lion. Lovely, unpretentious pub with lots of character. Great selection of ales & beers & a full menu too! We had the chicken pappardelle with sourdough garlic bread, followed by a sundae. The ingredients were delicious & fresh with the whole thing being well presented. Considering that this was hand crafted (as opposed to ping I& ding pub food), we were very impressed for the price. Will return & recommend

Very busy at time of visit. Car park at rear along with outside seating. Very old historic building. Good food, although portion size, seemed small, and service was a little bit slow. But it was busy, and the staff did look rushed off their feet so understandable. Overall, it was a good experience.

Lovely food, friendly staff, great environment. I would recommend booking if you're in a big group as they get busy.

To anyone thinking of going here for lunch, don't order the "lunch time" fish and chips. It was smaller than a toddler meal! You will leave hungrier than when you arrive. The price they charge for the portion of food they give you is actually really embarrassing for the staff to have to serve up. The mushy peas came in a thimble sized sauce pot like you get at McDonald's. The fish was smaller than the palm of my hand and there were about 7 chips. Others were complaining about their food too and the place was absolutely freezing. The waitress was lovely but I feel she has her work cut out for her.

Delightful, cheery young staff and a welcoming, friendly atmosphere. Cosy fire in the front bar and dogs are welcome. Our group enjoyed a range of hot nibbles/meals and drinks midweek after work and felt very welcome and thoroughly well looked-after.

the food is always amazing. the wait can be long but is always worth it. always the go to if wanting a meal out. to avoid long waits a week day is usually better. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love the Red Lion. Richard took it over nearly 5 years ago and has completely turned it around. The menu is as good as anything you'll find in Woodbridge and great value for money. Great range of beers, served by lovely staff. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I had the day to myself in Woodbridge and have promised myself to stop into the Red Lion and was delighted with my discovery! It is nice to see the pub in use by locals like myself and by couples visiting for weekend breaks. The choice of fine ales and beers are sure to delight anyone fond of great beers. There is an extensive food menu and I couldn’t resist the temptation of trying the home made lasagne. My food choice proved to be a great selection, with a more than generous and delightfully tasty offering. I was made to feel welcome by Hollie, who took time for a nice chat. I took the time to compliment the hard working landlord and I will look forward to returning in the near future. I can highly recommend The Red Lion and am confident you will be equally dighted by this most excellent jewel of not only Woodbridge, but of Suffolk.

The Red Lion , is a great central Woodbridge venue . The staff are fun, friendly and efficient. We a had a great meal, and the food was at an exceptionally high standard, which we highly recommend we will definitely be back.

Nice pub, had fish and chips, was nice but chips a bit underdone, got the food literally 5mins after ordering, so wonder if it had already been cooked for a while, was a bit dark where we sat, it was very busy in there, which is a good sighn. We were only passing through so doubt we'll goo here again.

Took our dogs for a long beach walk and wanted to find somewhere to stop. Extremely friendly and amazing service. They’re dog friendly and offered doggy friendly ice cream. All in all a wonderful experience. Will be coming back very soon

The food is always nice here as your general pub grub goes but who doesn't love pub grub? A nice pub in general with its atmosphere but limited on the drinks in my opinion.

Went here tonight for a family meal as My Sister and her Husband are going back to America on Friday so this was the last chance for us all to be together. How very disappointed we all were Drinks took forever to be poured for starters once sat waitress came over to ask were we ready to order but as we had only just sat down I asked could she just give us a couple of minutes Half an hour then went by and My Sister had to call her over to say we were ready. My daughter asked her was the burger on the menu chicken and was told yes when it came it didn’t even look or taste like chicken so her partner asked guy at the bar what exactly it was he said it’s a Vegan burger after an in depth discussion the waitress admitted it was her mistake and they offered my daughter an alternative. Trouble with this was that by the time that came we had all finished our mains. We then ordered two desserts and after another twenty minutes My daughter asked were the desserts coming as it’s been a while the guy very sarcastically said they sure are !!! But no still nothing so after 10 minutes we all got up to leave and just as we were about to go out the door the same guy came towards us saying Crumble we were like no thanks but the funniest thing was there was No sign of the second dessert we had ordered at the same time so when was that coming out ???? And the icing on the cake was they didn’t even offer to take off the burger as a good Will Gesture Unbelievable. Sad thing was the Young lady who was the waitress was actually quite polite Slow but very polite the Guy however had a really bad attitude and not once apologised certainly won’t be going back that’s for sure and that’s more about his attitude rather than the quality of the food once we did get it !!!!

Went to red lion for breakfast with santa with my grandson, neice and family. We had a lovely experience food came out exactly as we ordered thanks to Chef Dave. Our waitress Alyssa was extremely good with the children. She asked if we had seen santa, which we had but unfortunately my grandson got upset and didnt receive a present. She then went and spoke to santa who brought his present to the table

Myself and my two long time friends often visit The Red Lion for a quick meet up and enjoy the chicken burger and a glass or two of wine. We however decided to book in to enjoy a Christmas meal together. Well, it most certainly did not disappoint! The roast Turkey dinner was incredible. In all my years of venturing out for a Xmas turkey dinner, this was by far the best I have ever eaten. My friends were in awe of their meal too! The dinner was well presented, plenty on the plate and piping hot too. The first time I’ve ever cut into a roast potato and had to fan my mouth because they were so hot (I would just like to add these were real roasties too! The pub was very busy with diners and we have to say all credit to the front of house staff who were most attentive and friendly. Well done to all the staff for a most enjoyable evening. Keep up the good work.

Lovely food, lovely service - every single time!

What a lovely, friendly place! And such yummy food .. I had a chefs special of pulled lamb shepherds pie .. so much meat… veg and gravy to finish it off .. so tasty .. rest of our group were just as pleased with their meals .. and the men loved their dessert of apple and cinnamon crumble with creamy custard .. we felt really relaxed (no rush or pressure to move on) .. and the staff were so friendly and efficient.. will definitely revisit when next in the area .. thank you

Waited an hour for 3 cold roast potatoes and 2 slivers of pork shop. Really bad quality food. Beers were good and there many options. Staff were friendly enough but the wait for a simple roast dinner and poor quality earns a low rating. Avoid for food, but recommend for a pint.

went today for sunday lunch booked day before the service was very bad sat there for whole hour and still no lunch no staff even came to ask if we would like any more drinks after a hour walked out cancelling our lunch appreciate was very busy if we were told it would be more than a hour for lunch would not been so bad

Found this little gem by accident Sunday lunch time . Amazing was busy but warned us there was an hour wait on food. Kids got bit board of waiting but that’s just kids. Popped in today for lunch, really friendly, great welcome. The food was gorgeous well presented and really filling. Our dog Freddy was made very welcome with a bowl of water and a big cuddle. Would love a local like this, they are taking bookings for Christmas!

Went at a quiet time but we were treated to freshly cooked food which was worth waiting for.

Visited Red Lion on Tuesday evening and was pleasantly surprised to find they were very helpful and attentive in catering for my wife’s dietary requirements. Our server Jensen and Chef Dave made a special effort to ensure the meal was correct.

We went here for a work meal, food was inedible, very low quality and made many of us feel sick. Very disappointing as many of us have eaten here before and really enjoyed it. Meals came without half the things they said it would on the menu. None of us will be returning.

I came here for dinner with a group of friends recently and although some of them had been before and recommended it, the meal we had was very disappointing. None of the Chef’s Specials were available and all of us felt as though we were expecting so much more from the menu… the Caesar salad was tiny and just iceberg lettuce with watery dressing whilst the ‘crispy king prawns’ were tiny shrimp in breadcrumbs. There was no apology when we raised our concerns and nothing was taken off the bill and we felt we didn’t want to complain further. We won’t be recommending or returning

Imagine walking into a place- buying £35 of drinks, then only to be insulted later on by the landlady's drunken husband/friend as a 'f****** cheapskate'. He also likes to uncomfortably stare at customers. Fair to say, we won't be returning.

Although The Red Lion is an old pub of some antiquity and I am a local and also of some antiquity I had never stepped foot inside the place until today. I was pleasantly surprised. Service. Very good, very amicable. Food. Sausages and mash with onion gravy. Excellent. Prices. Normal pub prices. Draught bitter beer. Splendid! (I would have given The Red Lion 5 out of 5 but for the lacklustre green salad.) I will go again. Advice. Give them a try. Walk down the main shopping street towards Melton or drive and park at the back.

Very rude staff was a young female she was awkward from the minute we walked in, When asked if we could speak to someone higher up she laughed and said no even tho she wasn’t a manger, You can’t refuse in date legit ID just because your younger and awkward! It’s embarrassing behaviour we use this pub regularly as a family so to be treated poorly isn’t what we expected. The owners should definitely take a look at who they are employing as the face of there business it doesn’t look great at all.

Had a scrummy sunday dinner here which was lovely, we chose chicken and stuffing and a side of cauliflower cheese which was enough for both of us. Great menu choice including vegetarian and vegan options. Staff were very friendly and prices reasonably competitive. Highly recommended.

I went in for a pint of beer. Was served by a young oik with blonded hair, nose ring and lip stud. Shoved contactless machine in front of me and muttered something. Machine showing tip so pressed red button assuming this was a decline. No. Took 50p/10% from me . I'm eldely and a bit deaf so he obviously thought, mug I'll get him.If you buy a drink here, suggest you pay by cash and check your change.

Came here looking for a bite to eat in Woodbridge as don’t live local, so glad we chose this venue it was so cute and cosy! There was no music playing which was very relaxing and chill. Had the fish and chips, it was amazing. Friend got a chicken burger which she also enjoyed. Tiny bit pricey but expected for the location and vibe of Woodbridge as a whole and they gave me a massive bit of fish so I thought it was worth the price!! Would defo come back, staff were all cool as well especially the person who served us at the bar did not catch their name though. There was also a cute lil dog roaming about, very lovely little guy <3
