You wonder why no one's in here on a Friday lunch time, £14 pizzas with 20p worth of topping on top, that's why, come on guys sort it out!

A subdued atmosphere in stoke Newington to feel cozy in; Staff is lovely, food selection is your usual pub fare, in this case of the pizza variety, pretty tasty though.

Nice pub with plenty of TVs to watch Europa league. Great spot for reading too

What IS(nt) happening @ The Red Lion?!? I travel the world, yearning for THAT feeling.. the tenderness you feel in your mother's bosom, the warmth of a new lover's body.. I have seen many sights, many countries. I have bedded many lovers, always longing. But now I have found my muse..until this moment, I have not reached pure ecstasy as I have felt in this sole corner of the world. If this pub were a woman (or man YOLO), I would treat it as tenderly as a newborn lamb. Anyways, I digress. Solid pint, 5 stars.

Only had a pint of Guinness and some scampi fries but was a good pint and nice relaxed atmosphere.

The beer was good, but the music was too loud. It was difficult to have a conversation without shouting.

My girlfriend had her 30th birthday party there, hired out the upstairs and it was awesome. Tom made sure we were all looked after and had a flawless night. Definitely reccomend!

A fantastic dog friendly pub with great rock music and cozy atmosphere.

One of the quieter stokey pubs, but definitely worth checking out, especially if you want to hear yourself think! Sometimes just get the laptop out here and it provides the perfect setting

Not a bad little pub, had a few games like Jenga, see they do a quiz and a few other bits, so worth a visit if you want a nice friendly pub

I've visited the Red Lion a few times now, and it's always a pleasant experience. I love the low lighting, the music choices, and OMG the heating. It makes for a warm, intimate atmosphere, especially in the winter. A cool pub for a first date, I can recommend. On my most recent visit, I was less than impressed with the service, watching an unenthusiastic barman pour a less-than-average pint was a low point, but otherwise, for the most part, everyone here is charming and friendly, and they also had a quiz night that looked really fun. I'll have to try it out sometime in the next month or two.

A great party space and fighting in the bar was first class entertainment!

My favorite place in the area to come to. Jude in particular has always been so friendly and made the pub feel more welcome.

Highly recommend. Jude is the best employee and has phenomenal customer service. Always puts a smile on my face. Get the man a pay rise !

Avoid at all costs, booked for a friends birthday and have now been told the booking is no longer available. Coincidentally after they have had a larger party book. Absolute crooks

We had a friend’s birthday party upstairs ‘til late. Our own DJs were allowed to play what they wanted, how they wanted. The manager and his staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. A great team.

Probably the rudest pub staff in Stoke Newington. Was once a decent place for a quick drink, now run by rude, incompetent bar staff with cardboard pizzas. Don’t recommend, plenty of better pubs on Church St.

Good looking pub with good, but expensive beers. Sadly, found a hair in the beer. Food was also a massive let down. It's the same pizza people from Duke of Wellington and they also have their problems. They didn't have the two things we chose, which is fine as it was a Tuesday. Our replacements, when they arrived, included the "big" halloumi side (£7.50), which had only six, normal sized halloumis with a watered (milked?) down version of blue cheese (also, not the original sauce, which they also ran out of). Garlic bread dough was sweet and heavy. The £2.50 extra nduja would fit in a £2 coin size with room to spare. That brought the item to £8... For sub-par garlic bread... :-s Would love for the pub to start partnering with some better food providers.

This place used to be great before it became Frontier. It's fine if you like sport and being in a loud environment. The wine is quite nice and the pizza is also good. Some of the staff are insanely rude and make me not go back.

Good for sports and reasonably nice little garden but there's something a bit soulless about it. Feels very much like a chain pub and the staff always seem really unhappy. It's a shame cos the bones of it are great and it used to be so nice. Decent quiz on a Sunday.

Ok, so I mixed up my original review with another favourite pub. But this one is still a five star place. Great keg beer selection, a great garden / yard at the back, nicely sheltered, and some of the best pub pizza around, including veggie and vegan. My wife reckons the gluten free pizza is the best she's ever had. And they always have a gluten free beer on tap and ciders. If you like your sports they have some good viewing, including a screen in the garden.

They do gluten free pizzas and gluten free pints on tap! Friendly staff, lovely space, busy enough on a Saturday night but not too busy. They did have a big screen showing the football which is a pro or a con depending on who you are!

Worst aperol spritz in all the land. It was basically sparkling water.

Just a standard pub really. Lot of children running around shouting which seems to be tolerated. Probably better to go later in the evening. Had to ask them to top up the drinks as a pint seems to be something to aspire to. Good beer though. Nice outside area.

I booked the upstairs function room for a birthday and it was fantastic. The service was great, especially having the upstairs bar for yourself, staff were friendly and helpful, the pizzas were delicious and the space is really good for a group booking!

The young guy with gray hoodric tracksuit on very good work uniform on with classes on who dropped pizza all over the floor because he was not paying attention to what he was doing his services even at the bar seems very sloppy this pub uses to be good hate to do reviews but mangerment need to have a pet talk with him I own 3 Bars and would not have this service from any of my staff felt like I was being served at youth club.

Nice pub, good beers and the pizzas look good too but some staff are grumpy and have little understanding of the drinks they're selling. Also very sport focused, which is great only if that's what you want.

It changed use to be a lively place. But it was very quiet for a Saturday night. So we went somewhere else.

Went in to have a look at their function room/upstairs bar as I saw their promotional sign for it in the window. Immediately went to go upstairs and have a look before I was accosted by a member of staff who rudely insisted that we should have asked before going upstairs. This is despite the stairs not being roped off (a rope was hanging down indicating it was OK to go up) and a sign saying "upstairs seating" inviting people to go upstairs. I was immediately made to feel very unwelcome and will not be going back, let alone hosting an event there.

📍Red Lion 🌍 Stoke Newington 🏛 Attractive building outside, lovely brick and stone job. Make sure you cross to the opposite side of the road to admire it. Plainer on the inside. 🍺 Good range, all in the craft theme. There are 11 taps on the bar, I could have tried all of them. ℹ️ Good place to watch sports, if you like that sort of thing. The pub has a huge projector screen for big matches. Also has a beer garden. 🙋‍♂️ My view: Big fan of this Red Lion, for all the reasons above (except the sport). It's part of a small chain and they're getting it right. A bit more interest indoors would be perfect: Beer mats on the walls doesn't quite measure up to the impressive building itself.

Beautiful pub in a historical building. We had my daughter's 5 year old birthday in their upstairs room and they couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful! The room is a great size for lots of little kids running around and there is a nice space for parents to have a drink.

Had our wedding party upstairs at the Red Lion and cannot recommend it enough - great drinks, great pizzas and, most importantly, staff incredibly attentive, accommodating and friendly. We had loads of non-English speakers but that was not a problem for them; everyone left happy! Truly the best vibe! Thank you Harry and the team!

This is a nice pub nestled in the heart of Stoke Newington. Great beer selection, tiny rebel, beavertown, plenty of others I haven’t heard of a great offering of Pale Ales, Craft Beers and lagers, even a good selection of ciders. Probably wasn’t the best time to check for atmosphere as it’s 3pm on a Friday waiting to go to a wedding near by. I fancied a Tropica - Tiny Rebel, and it was delicious. Prices were reasonable to, £13 for a beer and a dry rose. Not bad for London.

Not a bad pub with a good selection of beers. Prices are high and often a bit too dark inside without too much of a vibe. Worth a visit if in the area.

Made the mistake of booking a landmark party upstairs on Jubilee weekend and was charged £750 for 5 hours hire. The £1k bar target was understood despite it being downplayed in importance by Harry. Lesson learnt. I was v disappointed in the crackling sound coming from the speakers (had live musicians who had to adapt their set) and could not DJ as had to play Spotify through pub’s central computer - in the back office - thank god I didn’t hire a DJ - to counteract the terrible speaker sounds. Iwas sold £432 worth of Amata Prosecco at face value (£29/bottle) as part of the £750 payment. I’m a non drinker. Matea and the bar staff were helpful yet the overall management leaves a lot to be desired (not knowing how to provide a suitable sound provision) which to me is a problem with the brewery who don’t check their business sites for quality and leave it to their staff to try and fix with no training. Food is average pub food. So, think twice before hiring the upstairs and make sure you can get £1k spend on the bar even if you’re told it’s a great deal and you won’t likely have to pay it.

I love this pub, lovely garden, friendly staff, occasional non rowdy football on a big screen. Plus the 2-4-1 pizzas on Mondays is very difficult to beat!

Great range of craft beers on tap! Probably the best for that in Stokey. Friendly staff. Update: Having now lived in the area for longer I can confirm this is the best pub in Stokey. We recently hired out the upstairs venue for a party with 60 friends and family. Harry and Mattea were absolutely awesome help for all of it. Their no stress approach is so reassuring when planning a big do like that. Nothing was an issue. I can't recommend this place enough. Also, the pizzas are brilliant.

Usually a good experience here so I’ll give them that but today I was greeted very rudely by this tall skinny guy with blonde hair and tattoos who worked at the bar We arrived to meet other friends there , I had my very small buggy ( those compact city ones) as I had my baby with me He rudely came over that my buggy cannot be in the way and I pointed over to where my friends were sat which clearly had ample space for a buggy and it wasn’t going to be in anyones way He just snapped at me saying just keep it out of the way yeh! Shocked at the way he spoke to me as normally staff are very friendly and the pub is meant to be kid friendly as I noticed other kids in the pub This person needs to look at how he speaks to people absolutely didn’t deserve this treatment

Excellent Guinness. Great value pizza (Weds). Lovely staff. 30 years I've been coming here. Consistently cool pub in an ever changing Stonkers. Bit too warm inside, but the young barman opened the door to let some air in.

Guiness was shockingly awful and the staff refused to give me a receipt because they "prefer to not use paper" ?? Paper Is completely recyclable, and some people need receipts for business expenses. Really unprofessional, won't be back

Absolutely worst experience ever went to this pub as they said that walk ins would be from 1600. I called them the day before to ensure this was still the case. Then when I arrived at 1420 yesterday for the final there was already a massive queue and the pub seemed to be busy inside already. Then after waiting for over 3.5 hours no one came in to communicate with us and they put up signs saying the pub is full by the window we were queueing at without coming outside to inform us after hours of waiting and the pub clearly refusing to stick to their word. I believe this is mostly due to the blonde manager that was working that was refusing to let people in when there was clearly still space, I think his name was Harry. Disgraceful experience will never be back again. All these other positive reviews about the final seem to be fake as there was over 50 people queuing aswell hoping the pub wouldn't blatantly lie and instead have their evenings ruined.

Was turned away from pub after being told by the manager to not arrive until 4pm this was also communicated on IG. He explicitly said that anyone in beforehand would be thrown out. Come 330, and in a queue the pub is packed with England fans and the manager is joking with people at the outside tables "I don't know why they think people are going to leave". Everyone in the queue has the same experience and the IG post has been edited to remove the 4pm line. Someone else came out to say "oh I don't know what happened but you're not getting in"

Terrible service would be an understatement

A horrific, unempathetic and unsafe experience from start to finish. A blonde, tattooed gentleman with stretchers who I believe is called Harry acted highly unprofessionally in his management of the crowd outside the pub for the Euro finals. The queue was gradually decreasing and me and several other groups of individuals seemed to be getting held aside for no apparent reason, in comparison to the other members of the queue, we were sober, kind and compliant. The final straw was when a group of gentleman forcibly pushed past several women and entered the pub without scanning any NHS requirements and sat down at a table they saw was vacant. Harry came over, knowing these individuals had not queued appropriately as he had dealt and spoke with them prior, but tried to remain ‘cool’ and just seated the gentleman even though he was aware they had pushed in and barged several women aside to complete this. At the same time, several individuals entered through the exit which is also unethical but also poses safety issues with covid compliance and yet again a ‘no issues raised’ approach was taken and these people were allowed to do this. The worst point was witnessing several women get crushed against the glass entrance by two argumentative and intoxicated men demanding their way through, as a result, a female member of staff simply locked the doors and no escalation was provided for these frankly rude and potentially dangerous men. Several punters were just left outside with no information or notification with what the situation was, overall creating a horrible environment on a day that should be fun and enjoyable, I will not be returning and are sure many others feel the same.

Misleading information about the euros, was told they'd allow walk ins at 4pm. Queued for 3 hours to be told this was a lie. Good job we didn't get in as this was the state of the dirty glasses last time we were here. Grim.

Clearly don’t clean pipes - worst beer I’ve had in a while.

Went about eight o clock not terribly busy, scanned QR code to see drinks menu, also had to pay this way, the only option was Apple Pay which I dont have and dont want. I asked the waitress she replied just download the app, but I dont want it, she said just this once she would let me pay by card. We left. This isnt to do with covid, whats wrong with contactless payment? this is just being awkward.

Lovely staff, very clean and a welcoming family atmosphere, great non-rowdy spot to watch the footie, maybe not the greatest fan of their pilsner or helles lagers (or their prices!) but a good boozer all-round, also they have a wicked garden
