George and Vulture pub in Hackney

Why is the member of staff with the bald head and earring so unnecessarily rude? Other than that, fantastic environment and great beer, but DON’T come here for food. The food is overpriced, mediocre, and lukewarm.

Love the pub but NO idea why the managers at the pub think it's acceptable to continue week after week and just have one bar staff on a Sunday. Am here now and 60 people here. Clearly they are just trying to make themselves look good profit wise. Absolute jokes and feel so bad for the bar staff.

If you want a Guinness I'd probably give this place a miss...

This is a super pub. Welcoming atmosphere. Dog friendly. Good choice of beers. Excellent pizzas (the only food option). Twelve of us enjoyed lunch yesterday. Great service. Fun. Good location.

Had the best XMAS office lunch here and it was incredible. Food was amazing, the service was outstanding, and the vibes/atmosphere were lovely. Will definitely be coming back :)

Amazing pizza, good beers and a fun quiz night. Come here regularly, especially in the summer, and even has a super fun Christmas office shindig here.

Buzzy pub with really cool interior!

Decent enough pub. GREAT pizza and a decent selection of beers. But the clientele is largely post-work and transient so it's not much of a 'local'. And people tend to queue and form a line to order. Consequently the staff treat you a bit like the Pret a Manger customer you are channelling rather than someone they may want to get to know.

Cute pub with lots of outdoor seating. Feel a bit ripped off that they charge £2.50 for soda water with a slice of lime…

A nice pub. Pleasantly decorated with a whiff of 'the Prisoner' 1960s TV show considering the Penny Farthing on the wall. No real ales to speak of but the Guiness was top notch.

Delicious sourdough pizza! Nice pub, vibey inside and outside. Friendly staff putting up with lots of riff raff. 2 for 1 pizzas the night we went, set menu eat in only. We got 1: Fungi Five porcini cream, mushroom ragu, mozzarella, Coolea, truffle oil, parsley, walnuts (£15) 2: Wicker Man tomato, mozzarella, pepperoni, nduja, mascarpone & scotch bonnet chilli honey (£16) Both extremely DELICIOUS! Would like both to myself next time. Bottle of French rosé £32, was lovely so we doubled down on that too. No photos sorry too much rosé.

This is a Fullers pub that usually offers two real ales. The quality is consistently high. One is always Fullers pride, the other varies but is usually Fullers too. On my last visit it was Red Fox, which was really nice, but usually it is one of the blander pales. Although a pub, this is also a very popular pizza restaurant. I've never eaten here, but the pizzas look great, and if you arrive early evening, you will find all the inside tables are booked, so they must be doing something right. There is lots of outside seating.

Five star food and pub! Quiz was brilliant but watch out for the Quizzly Bears, they are a force to be reckoned with

Awful service, we had a table on the pavement (public pedestrian space) but for bringing some chips from next door we were kicked out by the staff. Not recommended at all!

Heavenly pizza from SODO. Most incredible staff going above and beyond to make sure Wellington doesn't miss out on pizza too so gave him some pepperoni 🍕 🐶 Super dog friendly, they even have their own dog menu with dog beer and many other dog treats, along with a jar of treats for fluffy friends to help themselves.

Lines of customers whilst the staff continued to ignore these lines and speak to each other. I assume they were staff only because they were gathered behind the bar but that was the only evidence. No extra gravy for this establishment. Edit #1: Don't worry, it was in the evening so have been assured you weren't present. Edit #2: noticed a lot of reviews regarding rude staff, forgot to mention that too about my last visit. Letting children play at running a pub I guess.

Great small london pub, outdoor area on the footpath is full of life and very vibrant.

Have been coming here every now again on my way home from work. Unfortunately the staff are consistently disinterested, barely acknowledging you as they’re too busy chatting to other staff members at the far end of the bar. Most disappointingly though is that the lager isn’t cold! Such a let down on a hot sunny day.

Being a local I try to avoid this place. Never seen rudest staff in my life. Staff keeps rotating every few weeks and it does not get any better.

Slowest service in Hoxton, bit of an attitude too.

The chef / pizzaiolo was so gentle to offer us a Margherita as they mess with our order and we were waiting for more than half an hour. This never happens in London. I really appreciated it

They've stopped doing takeaways 2 4 1 on pizzas. Gone the way of a typical stingy London pub. Update for the review: thanks for your comment but this really just says the reason is that the customer is paying your rent and bills? Everyone's struggling, have you seen the news? Especially operating in an area surrounded by social housing with everyone who used to come to the George as a cosy local. You used to do two for one beers to takeaway too. I know tides are changing and everyone's struggling but your condescending reply suggesting those who can't pay 15 quid for a pizza should head to Weatherspoons or stay at home (and cook what, beans on toast I guess?) just clarified the attitude this pub has going on now and how out of touch you are 👍🏻

Walked in - was shouted at by a man behind the bar so left I used to work for fullers and this is not the standard the company expects

Pleasant, bright pub set back in a lovely village-y bubble just off Old Street.

Our visit was pleasant, nice vibe and local. We tested the Sunday roast & thoroughly enjoyed. Our table had the beef & the chicken options which were generous but we had to ask for the horseradish which should of been served alongside the beef . My only criticism is they don't offer smaller roasts for children which could but families off, and no highchairs (from a previous enquiry). Nice, friendly staff 😊 Updated - Great to see business review/reflect on their services - love this! we'll definitely be back and will be ordering a small plate for my small diner!

This is a nice hidden gem in the middle of London. The staff are really warm, welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere was buzzing due to the weather and because there were a lot of people. The pub is near old street so the location is excellent, it's easy to get to. I'll certainly go back again when I'm nearby.

Your bar tender with the bandana swore at me and my friends multiple times. Was totally overwhelmed by two lines of people. Shouted and was volatile to customers, my girlfriend left the bar and made me order because she was scared of him. Genuinely the worst service I’ve ever seen in my life. We had a group of 15 people that all left because of him. You have a lovely pub but he’s let the whole team down.

Visited this pub for a second time to take part in the quiz. Great atmosphere, menu is freshly baked pizzas only. Friendly service.

Great choice of beers, nice interior and friendly staff. Impossible to hear anything anyone says due to lack of sound proofing, when it's full, you must scream - makes the experience a lot less charming. Acoustic panels and fabric could go a long way.

To the Landlord You are a gormless fool,I visited with my friend who was refused service because he appeared drunk.In fact he is dyspraxic which impedes his ability to walk,I'm totally disgusted by the abuse of people with disabilities,this is a hate crime and I intend to take this further,and will to the brewery and hoping you will be severely reprimanded

Great night at the George and Vulture! Sourdough pizzas were lovely and there was plenty of variety in beers and other beverages. It was Friday night, so quite busy and loud - not their fault though of course! Staff worked tirelessly and were friendly and approachable :)

Great pizza with the option to add toppings. We went for a drink on a Monday evening after work and discovered they do 2 for 1 pizza's on a Monday. Result! Great crowd. Plenty of seating. Newly refurbished so has a nice clean feel.

What a little gem. We needed something to eat and a glass of wine at the end of a long day and came across this fab pub. The food was excellent and an expected bonus that it was a two for one on pizzas on Mondays…. Some pubs are cold and sterile, the George and vulture was definitely not and we had a lovely evening. Will definitely be back when I’m next in the area for my next meeting

Had a long weekend in London visiting friends and family and found this place for a late lunch and it was fab! I tried one of the “sodo pizzas” and it was super tasty. Service was exceptional too. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming without being in any way pushy or intrusive. The food was so good and the drink selection was amazing we ended up staying almost all afternoon! Will definitely be going back next time we visit!

Cracking good traditional London pub. Fine Fullers Ales, a roaring fire and a really nice team behind the bar. They also do truly excellent sour dough (SoDo) pizzas. Well worth a visit, and Hoxton Square is just a few steps away. No noisy fruit machines, and a great clientele, mostly smart young(ish) professionals. We will be back for another visit.

A proper local in London. I love this pub. The staff are amazing and even when it's a busy, winter's day or hectic summer evening, there's always a welcoming atmosphere. Food has been great every time I've visited. Wine/beer selection is vast and often changes and the staff are knowledgeable about new bottles/draughts they have in. Added perk. If you get homesick or lonely in the city at Christmas - get down to their Carol singing. I'll keep coming back time and time again.

The G&V has been my local for 4 years and I used to love going there. It’s a gorgeous pub and the staff used to be friendly - now there’s not a day we go there and don’t have to walk on eggshells at the risk of upsetting a staff that clearly doesn’t want to do the minimum required to upkeep what once was an okay standard for the pub. The staff is aggressive from the get-go and making their own rules as they go. It’s simple, if you can’t stand people, do not work in hospitality, you’re doing yourself and everyone a disservice. If you are looking for a lovely pub in the area there are plenty of options to choose from, some of them are even cheaper so you’d be winning from all angles.

Had a really good time until the bartender with braids in a ponytail took over. Closed half the bar before 22:30 and made a huge queue, and only let us order drinks if we said “please”, while not giving the same treatment to the men before us (who came into the queue after us). He was also extremely rude to us and gave us trouble when trying to pay separately, which ruined our experience after that. On the other hand, the australian bartender was lovely, and very polite to us at all times. Sad that this bad encounter with who I imagined was the manager ruined our whole evening.

I genuinely can’t believe the staff at this place. Do not consider this your local, it’s fine on a busy Friday afternoon but as soon as they have a choice it’s like stepping into the living of someone who doesn’t want you there. This is an expensive pint, followed the slowest hateful service. You might think this is an over the top review but time after time they kill your vibe and send you home wishing you hadn’t left your comfy bed. Seek better shelter at the Prince Arthur. Not kisses, no hugs x

The staff at this place are the rudest ever for no reason. I would give 0 stars if I could. Full on over the top aggression towards my friends in several times. Bartenders forcing you for ID on a Sunday, which never happened before in the many times we have been there, as we’re all clearly over 30s. But did happen conveniently when the barman clearly did not want to clear the tables and do his job, standing behind the bar, being the meanest you can be. Do not go here if you want to get a pint and chill. The dead eye stare from all the staff make me feel like i’m buying a pint for my friends at the morgue. Better sunday roast at The Virgin Queen, better pizza at Pizza Union. Ps. Don’t work in hospitality if you hate it, make everyone a favour.

The pizza was great. I had the wickerman which was a nice combo of a little bit of spice and sweetness. Overall, had a pretty nice night. Though one of the staff was really off-putting, unfortunately. My first encounter with him was at the bar and I asked "Can I get two lucky saint beers?" He just looks at me and says "please." I didn't want to argue with him, so sure, I can just say please and get this interaction over with. Then later I ordered pizza to the table but ended up moving to another table, realising we would need to keep an eye out for our pizzas since we gave a table number. The same guy brings the pizzas over and we let him know right away that we moved from table X to table Y. He responds, "I hate when people do that. Next time you need to come up and tell us. It's so annoying when people do that without telling us." Honestly didn't think it was a big deal, but he made it into one. While everything else was great, these interactions really soured the experience.

Great pub atmosphere-proper London pub like my dad use to regularly frequent. Staff friendly. Guinness excellent. One of the friendliest pubs I’ve been in.

Hidden Gem: Everything everywhere all at once, this pub is worth going a bit further for. Classic, grand, London, Victorian corner pub. Narrow corner doors with proper vintage pub locks lead to a spacious hall bar, with a high ceiling and retained Victorian decorative detail everywhere; coving, large, round cornered windows, well decorated with hanging light chains, vintage flip down overlook windows, decorated pillars, fireplace, beautiful flower lights over the bar and aged chandeliers. A great loved in feel and decorations that work from the silver tray and painted vintage mirrors to the decorative ceiling and wall paper. Superb draught beer selection and everything for everyone, including board games 🎲 dog menu. A hood range of seating, with good shared spaces, a good vibe of groups of friends creating a good vibe relaxed buzz. Good, calm, attentive service. The electrician went over the top with the web of cable trunking. Plenty of outdoor seating for London street drinking. A great all rounder worth travelling a bit further.

Was there for the Tuesday pub quiz. While the quiz was fun, the pub was overcrowded, stools uncomfortable and the wood fire made it blazing hot. Edit in response to owner - there’s a difference between busy vs overcrowded, and warm vs stifling hot.

Lovely pub and an amazing Sunday Roast which is HUGE. Like seriously you eat for half an hour and still feel like you've barely put a dent in it.
