Friendly staff, hearty, simple menu, great coffee. We stopped here after walking Crickhowell to Brecon via the Black Mountains. They weren’t bothered about muddy boots but we took off at door anyway. Toilets immaculate. Chef’s playlist that could be heard in the dining area - not a bad song on it for about an hour. Good on him!!

We were a party of seven adults staying locally in Llangors and enjoyed both Sunday Lunch and Wednesday evening meals at the pub, not to mention some of the group popping in to play pool, listen to live music or use the visiting take aways. We were always met with a friendly welcome from staff. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was great.

Fantastic Sunday lunch, lean lamb and crispiest roast potatoes. One of us gf and such a treat to have home made gf Yorkshire puddings. The cardamom panacotta with roast peace’s, white chocolate sauce and peanut brittle also great. Very competitively priced too. We will go back and try in evening.

Beautifully restored pub with an atmosphere. Welch farmer boys in their four wheel drives enjoying pizza and pint night, non-binary adults in relatively explicit non-conformist attire and mums with a glass of house red side by side with walkers resting their legs. This pub has the atmosphere to match the breathtaking landscape.

We had an excellent meal here whilst on holiday in the area. A lovely atmosphere with really helpful staff. The food was great and as a bonus there were several options for our vegan son to enjoy. He had the vegan version of fish and chips (battered tofu with Nori) and was really impressed with it as well as the vegan peanut butter ice cream.

This stunning pub knocked it out the park for our small family wedding celebrations. The food was outstanding catering brilliantly for the gluten free/vegans/vegetarians in the party. Menu was perfect in size with something for everyone. I can’t speak highly enough of the staff and the pub - it was perfect with incredible food and service and a fantastic selection of wines. Thank you so much for making our day so special! 😍

I went for Sunday lunch with my Daughter and Son-in-Law. There are fewer and fewer places these days where you can get a real Sunday lunch and definitely not many with such beautiful surroundings. In the restaurant, everything was exceptional from the food to the drinks to the service and including the lovely setting. Afterwards we went for a walk around the town and that was magical too. A place to go back to many times, I hope.

I’m vegan so never expect much but these guys were very accommodating and I had a delicious broccoli salad with “feta” and a yummy dressing. My husband had the hallumi salad with orange and watercress and fries, very generous with the hallumi and fries. Staff so friendly and welcoming a definite hit in my books!

Driving through the Brecon Beacons, we stopped at Red Lion for lunch. A lovely sunny day but not too busy. The lunch menu is short (<10 items) but has something for all tastes. We both had fish and chips. The surprise was that it came with a side of curry sauce. We loved it. The skinny fries went perfectly with both fish and curry sauce. The fish was perfect and just right size for lunch. Highly recommended. We might pop in one evening to enjoy the full menu.

Lovely Sunday lunch, really good portions and very edible with gluten free options even for the Yorkshire puddings! Beautifully refurbished into all little books and cranes, very cosy feel and very attentive service! The wine list is a bit pricey so a few more cheaper options would be welcome, but the Portuguese wines are reasonable and very good. But anyway nice to see different options from what you get in other places.

My partner and I visited the Red Lion in Llangorse today for Sunday Lunch. When we arrived, we were greeted by Sally who went above and beyond for us. The Lamb had sold out so we were left with the choice of Lamb Chops, Pork belly or Haggis. As we hadn’t tried Haggis before, Sally asked the chef if we could have some to taste before making our decision. Sally returned to the table with a generous portion of Haggis to try, to help make our minds up and although it was tasty, we opted for the Chops. The dinner was lovely, roasties perfect, nice amount of meat on the chops and the whole of the dinner was thoroughly enjoyed, especially the lovely, large yorkshires! We would definitely return, for the food and the service. Sally, you were lush!

Very pleasant pub, nicely decorated and friendly service. Most importantly, the Sunday lunch was excellent. Just two small complaints - 1. The roast potatoes weren't as good as the rest of the food and 2. The pudding (a crumble) was tiny and over-priced. But I suppose you can't have everything!

In the middle of a little village - perfect for exploring and walking is this delightful place. You can tell that it has recently been refurbished with the pristine paintwork and welcoming feel from its exterior. Walk inside and it’s a wow! So tastefully done with a mix of old, traditional and modern - lovely brick work, quirky touches, open areas, quiet sections, bright in parts but also romantic lighting in others. Very tastefully done and an excellent vision from the owners (even the toilets are posh!). Visiting for a long weekend, we popped in for a drink the first evening. Very reasonable prices and choice. Friendly and attentive staff and chatty owner who came in and straight away put the log fire on and invited us on an organise walk the next day. We returned for delicious food! A small menu presented on chalk boards, but very interesting! Not just pork belly, but Asian style. Not just Ribeye, but with a rosti and a sumptuous mushroom sauce etc, everything had a bit of a twist. No starters as such, but a sides menu to which some could be have as starters but ordered and come together. The coconut and spicy mango chicken was one (amazing - could have had this as a main!) and truffled chips another - yum. A perfect dessert menu!! I’ll let the pictures do the talking! Very reasonably priced, and great staff. We really had nothing to criticise. We will be returning for our final night - only for a drink but from what we’ve seen, I’m sure the Sunday dinner would be amazing also. An excellent find!

What a delightful find! Have a caravan by the lake and we were aware of the renovation going on, so when we saw it finally open one Sunday, we decided to give it a try. We had the nut roast dinner. I am a vegan. They clearly understood what I could and couldn't eat (it's surprising how many restaurants don't) and adapted the meal accordingly (left the honey off the honey roasted parsnips, etc) Everything was cooked to perfection and the portion size was very good. The pub has been beautifully renovated and although the meal was not cheap, it was certainly value for money. We will definitely return.

On a recent holiday to Llangorse, we visited the Red Lion twice- once for Sunday lunch and once on a Wednesday evening. We’d been looking forward to sampling the menu at the Red Lion since its relaunch and the food was exceptional. Sunday lunch was fantastic- the meats were cooked beautifully alongside the huge homemade Yorkshire puddings and spring veg. My partner also commented that the hake was the best fish he had ever had. We almost didn’t have room for pudding (almost!) but I’m glad we did as the raspberry pavlova was easily one of the nicest I’ve tasted. Equally, on the Wednesday, between us we went for the bavette steak and the chicken caesar salad and again, everything was delicious. I’d like to say that because of how much we enjoyed the food, we had a great experience at the Red Lion but unfortunately, the service and attitude of some of the staff when we dined there on the Wednesday evening really let us down. We were welcomed to our table by who we think was the chef with no issues. However, as the evening progressed, the service went downhill for us. The two waitresses who served us seemed like they didn’t really want to be there. When our order for mains was taken, we weren’t told that there was no hake on the menu, we only found out from a conversation overheard by my partner at the bar. Equally, the same happened on the Sunday when we weren’t told until we came to order our starters that some items weren’t available which should have been made known to us after we were seated. After our food arrived on the Wednesday, we were not asked by the waitress if we wanted any condiments or anything else they could get for us. When my partner approached the waitress to ask if those of us having steak could have a steak knife, he was told no as the steak should have been tender enough to cut it with a regular knife? We were quite taken aback by that response and despite what the waitress said, a steak knife was still required to cut our meat but at that point, we didn’t want to ask again so got on with our meals. We weren’t asked if everything was ok with our meal until our plates were cleared- again, we expected someone to ask this earlier to check everything was ok. We waited a considerable time to be asked if we wanted dessert. We were also confused as we were told at the start of both meals that drinks could only be ordered at the bar, however, when our plates from our mains were being collected, we were told we could order them at the table which was inconsistent to what we’d previously been told. When we told the waitress we did want a dessert, menus were brought out but the waitress didn’t return. A second waitress then appeared and abruptly and rudely asked how many of us were having desserts so she could place the cutlery. There wouldn’t have been any issue at all with this being asked other than the way the waitress spoke - or rather shouted - at us. The whole party were surprised at her tone of voice to the point where we were almost lost for words. When the same waitress realised we hadn’t actually ordered dessert as the other waitress hadn’t come back to take our order, the waitress did apologise, but then went and sat on the window sill cross legged and asked for our order which we found to be a bit strange and unprofessional. We were also short of one set of dessert cutlery which was then pulled out of the top of the waitress’ dungarees. At that stage, we considered cancelling dessert and paying the bill, however, we persevered and the desserts (biscoff cheesecake and the raspberry pavlova) were once again divine. We hope that the issues we have encountered are just teething problems due to it being a new establishment as the service we have received at other local pubs in the area has been second to none whereas in all honesty, we were not made to feel welcome on either occasion we visited the Red Lion. For the price of food and drink here, we would expect more from the level of service and hope this has been rectified at our next visit in 2024.

Lovely pub in a very gorgeous setting close to llangorse lake. I ordered lobster bisque spaghetti and my child the bavette steak, both were delicious especially the peppercorn sauce, but the true highlight was probably dessert, biscoff cheesecake and a sticky toffee pudding, classics done very well. There is a good wine selection, with the ability to order a 1/2 carafe on many options - perfect when you are the only one old enough to drink. The staff are lovely! It’s walkable from llangorse lake, and has a lovely outside space. Well recommended!

They booked us a table in the bar where the TVs were - there is a restaurant section also. The staff were very friendly welcoming and helpful and the menu was varied. The food we ordered was not only very tasty but excellent portion size and not astronomically priced. Their drinks were also good value. At 1/2 time they brought out for all the customers free bacon rolls and chips! Due to the fact that we had eaten already the landlady insisted in wrapping up our rolls for us to take back to our caravan!!!! Apparently she is serving curry 1/2 time for the Champions League ⚽!

We’ve visited this pub as a couple for a meal and drinks. As we walked in there were a few people waiting to be served there was one girl serving and what looked like 1 or 2 staff mulling around, nobody acknowledged us and we stood waiting a good 5 mins, when we were served the girl seemed told us we could sit where we liked. We ordered our meal and it arrived within about half a hour which was fine, although as the waitress was bringing the food up stairs to us we could here her moaning about having to walk up the stairs with food, the meal was put on the table and the staff were gone! We had no sauces no vinegar and the peppercorn sauce they served us looked absolutely disgusting! We continued to eat our meals (minus the peppercorn sauce) which I would say was over priced for the quality of food we received. Nobody came back to see if we were ok or if our meal was ok we didn’t see anybody again till we had finished. I told the waiter about the sauce when he came to collect the plates and he said he would let the chef know for next time but we had no apology and we still ended up paying for it when we checked the bill. Overall the pub itself is nice but you get the feeling that locals get priority there. We won’t be returning.

Utterly bewildered by some of the favourable reviews. Staff friendly, but food was probably the worst I've eaten in over a decade. I've genuinely had better in a parchment makers. It is a sports bar, not a country pub. It masquerades as a country pub but it's a sports bar, not a place to eat but fine for a pint. No local beers either, closest was Exmoor! Traveled up from Bridgend to celebrate my mums 80th Birthday after reading some good reviews. Left very disappointed and hungry after being messed about by the incredibly slow and sometimes rude staff over what menu was actually available. After asking twice for a menu we were told that we could only order off the board, on which was not enough choice for our party of 9. It was only when I went to settle the drinks bill that the landlady decided that we could order off another menu. This was an hour and a half after we first walked in. Whilst we were there a young lad, who was polite enough was having his first crack at bar work and was totally out of his depth. 2 or 3 other members of staff were happy to watch him struggle while they did not a lot. The pub itself is a cracking little place, but I found the atmosphere created by the staff very strange and definitely not welcoming. The day was saved by The Bank bar and restaurant in Brecon town centre, who seated us within 30 minutes and couldn’t do enough for us. I know where I’ll be eating next time I’m in the area and it won’t be the Red Lion

Before we could even look what was available we were told to “hurry up there are other people waiting” (2 people had just approached the bar) shocked, me and my partner just looked at each other, how can you say that to a paying customer who has just entered? Sat outside as felt a little uncomfortable. Food was ok waited over 40minutes for it to arrive. Completely forgot about the castle 100 yards up the road which is said to have a much better atmosphere (not that it’s hard)

Gluten free food options are excellent- even so gluten free takeaway pizza. Very welcoming pub with a nice atmosphere.

This pub is so nice. The owner is very friendly and we had a wonderful time on our stay on a very hot, sunny weekend in May. Rooms lovely and clean and bright and food delicious. Cant recommend this enough.

We stayed here in the bedrooms available, with breakfast included, everyone we met , not only in the pub, but in the village were friendly, warm and helpful people. The rooms were lovely and comfortable, and the food was delicious and generous sizes. Everything including the drìnks were worth the price. All the staff including the owner were lovely. I highly recommend this place. This also near the Brecon beacons, so useful for people going there, also not far from Llangorse lake which is beautiful. This is family friendly and relaxing

Visited Llangorse in our motorhome thought we would go for a nice meal in the Village pub. However after a long trek to the Village we were told neither pub was serving food. Disgusting hospitality we will never return to thus village

If your looking for a typical pub grub place to eat - this is it. Food took a while to be served, not very hot and not very tasty. Staff friendly enough.

We ate at the Red Lion two nights running during our stay in Llangorse. Food was excellent on each occasion: well cooked, friendly service and good portions. On our first evening, the place was heaving with a great atmosphere; on the second, it was quiet and only spoiled by two men who wouldn't come off the pool table. The landlady was fantastic and I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment.

This was the first birthday in a few years that I've managed to celebrate with my family. We all decided to have a weekend away in Brecon and the Red Lion proved to be the perfect place. Beautiful, comfortable rooms, proper homemade food and a brilliant pint. I challenge you to find more welcoming pub! A true home from home.. Thank you so much to Kate and the team for making the weekend so special. Can't wait for our next stay! xx

Kate and her team went above and beyond to make our family birthday celebrations and our stay a fantastic experience, we will be staying again regular. We all commented on how we thoroughly enjoyed the evening meals, all fresh and home cooked. The rooms are of a high standard, very clean and comfortable and the breakfast was cooked fresh with a good choice of full English, toast and cereal with tea and coffee on tap. The bar is cosy with the log burner fire and country yet stylish feel. We’ve already booked to stay again

A lovely friendly pub, staff lovely and excelant food, our only complaint was the bloke sat by the door, shouting at every one who walked out to shut the door, if you don't want to sit by the door and get cold. Sit somewhere else ,,,,,!,,,, So rude

Went just for a pint whilst deciding what to do for an evening, and was pleasantly surprised. Lovely open space, good beers, nice environment, and not treated like strangers. Pool, darts available. Very clean and food looked amazing but did not eat there.

Sunday roast very disappointing no taste in meat like a school dinner tasteless. Beef and lamb duo no taste what so ever. Shame as weve dined many times and thoroughly enjoyed the owners need to reflect as your missing a niche in market gone are the days of purchasing cooked sliced meats clearly from cash and carry

Visited here over the weekend, as we were staying at a local camping site. The staff are lovely and go out of their way to make sure you're enjoying your meal. The food is typical fried pub food, served piping hot and reasonably presented.

The other pub in town was full, so the Red Lion were helpful in finding us (and several others !) places for dinner. And to follow that, both the beer (and good cider) were as excellent as the food.

This is a lovely pub, with a pool table and garden. The food is great and reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly. However, we visited on a Bank Holiday Weekend and there was just one person serving behind the bar. It took at least 15 minutes to get served. The member of staff was superb, but management really do need to employ more people.

Yes it was a Sunday and yes it was fairly busy at the premises, but standing knee deep at the bar for @ 10-15minutes before getting served a drink, was unacceptable. There was only one member of the bar staff behind the counter, however, for most of the time there were an additional 4 table serving staff. When I queried about the availability of Sunday roast, was told they could not take our order until, other table customers had ordered their fare. We decided to vote with our feet and finished our drinks and went elsewhere for our lunch.

Happened upon this place and very glad we did. Ordered lunch and a couple of drinks. Bar staff were really friendly. Lunch was fab - I ordered the steak cooked perfectly medium rare as requested and my husband ordered the chicken. Wish we lived nearer - we would definitely go back!

Visited her on Friday night whilst we were staying at the lovely Lakeside Camping Site. We made a reservation as the site advised it gets very busy, on this occasion it was ok. We had made the reservation for downstairs in the bar, but were offered to go upstairs into the restaurant which we accepted. There was no difference in menu's. The staff were helpful and very attentive, there was a good selection of food, your normal steaks, burgers, gammon, scampi, curry, Lasagne. Portions are good size and all very reasonable, around the £11 for a main. We declined deserts although they sounded very enticing. The atmosphere downstairs was very relaxed and there is a beer garden front and back.We will definitely return here when we are next at Lakeside.

We stopped at the red lion overnight for my partner's birthday. I have been going to Llangorse on mini breaks almost every year for twenty years and I absolutely love the place so I was really looking forward to stopping here. When I initially booked a room via Facebook, the owner, Katie, was so helpful and even switched our rooms so we would have the room with the four poster room as I was booking it as a surprise for my partner. When we arrived, Katie was so welcoming and our ground floor room was absolutely fantastic and freshly cleaned. The four poster bed was lovely and the room was beautifully furnished with tea/coffee/hot chocolate in the room with free biscuits, along with a TV and DVD player. The bathroom was amazing- huge double shower and lots of complimentary toiletries as well. We ate at the red lion for dinner and the menu was extensive and lots of different dishes to choose from. The homemade Nutella cheesecake was amazing!! All the bar and waiting staff were very welcoming and helpful. The piece de resistance though was our breakfast the next morning. I had the full English and my partner had a sausage sandwich and it was the nicest full English I've had in years! Katie even offered my partner a second sausage sandwich once he had finished his first. Nothing was too much trouble. We absolutely loved our stay there and have already started to recommend it to other family and friends who regularly visit Llangorse as well. We would definitely stay there again and will be sampling more of the great food on our next visit! Thank you Katie and your team for a fabulous stay!

We ordered 2 burgers (one beef and one Cajun Chicken). Both very happy with food and drinka. Staff were very nice and food didn't take too long to cook. Cheesy garlic bread was too cheesy in my opinion but still tasted okay. Didn't get a chance to explore beer garden as it was raining but the interior was warm and friendly. Could have done with a wider choice on the menu and some desert choices.

We dropped in without booking hoping to get lunch. I was with my friend and her disabled dad. They were able to offer us a table and from the start the experience was excellent. The staff member ( I think it was the Manager) came out to the car park to see if we needed any help with the wheelchair. We were promptly seated and drinks and food order taken quickly. All members of staff were polite and friendly. The food came in a good waiting time and we were all really pleased with the food. I had an ultimate burger, my friend a Thai beef dish and her dad an all day breakfast. Great portion sizes, hot and all tasty. Really reasonably priced as well ! Thankyou for such a great experience

My wife and I were staying in a B&B in Berriew which didn’t cook evening meals on a Sunday, so we decided to try this inn for our dinner. We arrived without reservations, but were quickly shown to a table by a very pleasant member of staff who immediately took our drinks order. The drinks arrived and we ordered our food soon after. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive, and it looked very well presented. My wife had lasagne, which she told me was hot and tasty, however my steak and ale pie with chips was not quite so. Again, my meal was hot, but the meat in the pie was very grisly, which was a shame as the pastry was excellent. The chips and beans with my meal were first class, so absolutely no problems with them. As we ate our meal the chef came out and asked if everything was okay with the food. I told him about the meat in the pie, to which he laughed and then walked away. Now, what’s the point in asking me about my meal if you are not going to take action when you receive such a comment? Anyway, we finished the meal and went up to the bar to pay, at which time we were asked again if all was okay. I told the member of staff at the bar about the meat and this time it had a totally different outcome, in that someone, whom I took to be the manager, became involved, and she showed concern about the fact that my meal had not been perfect. She also told me that she would be having words with the supplier about said pie. We ended the conversation coming to an amicable agreement of a goodwill gesture, so I’m more than happy with the outcome. If it had not have been for the issue with the pie then this meal would have been almost perfect, in that the staff were lovely, the restaurant was clean and in a good state of decoration, and the service was first rate. My only other comment would be that the prices were a tad dearer than around my home city of Leicester, but not unusual for a country inn.

We stopped here to break up a long journey. Straight away it seemed very unwelcoming. My son is autistic, and because he seemed more comfortable in the corner section we asked to move tables. We were advised that was the dog friendly section, and obviously we would move if needed, it was quiet at the time, but this seem like an inconvenience to move tables. Then when my son was wandering in the pub, this seemed to annoy a couple of guests, and I know he seemed hyperactive but these are some of his autistic traits, this seemed to annoy one couple in particular, where the man was making very rude comments ( I know you have no control over who comes into your pub) but overall it just felt very unwelcoming in there. Are kids not allowed in here? It didn't seem like it. We come past this pub often, so we will not be stopping here again.

For a fish and chip shop, you would think they would know how to cook fish. My takeaway contained uncooked batter on haddock. In addition, the chips were a soggy mess having not be drained properly. A brioche bun chip butty??? Curry sauce was good, but guessing that was bought in. Maybe a bad night, but def not going back.
