Ok, what you expect from a spoons. Staff are very friendly

If Bitterne Precinct is the crown, then The Red Lion is the Jewel! I always find this place to be very consistent and with quick service. Busy throughout the day and for good reason. The Precinct is undergoing some green space urban renewal and guess this will be completed by summer 25. Would love to see when completed and hopefully rejuvenates the area, bringing more interesting shops and customers.

It's a Wetherspoons. Can't go wrong.

Not dog friendly not even outside

Lovely food for the price you pay and amazing staff! Nothing wrong with the pub but a bit loud and you have to go through smoke when entering and exiting the pub! When we went , fight and free drugs all over! If you dont mind the environment/atmosphere, this is perfect food and drink place.

Our Mixed Grill looked absolutely great. However, when we cut into the small but chunky piece of lamb, that was browned all over with black griddle lines on the outside, inside it was totally raw and blood spilled out over our jacket potato turning it pink and red and then spilled on to the plate as well. The gammon was very chewy and rubbery indicating it was well overcooked and it was probably rewarmed up in the microwave before being plated up or after plating up. More than likely the latter as the time taken to deliver the meal to our table was only 5 to 6 minutes after we had ordered the meal via the Spoon's app, which means that the meal or parts of the meal were already cooked and plated up before we even entered the pub. The rest of the meal was okay, apart from when we had finished and we pointed out the raw and bloody lamb to the waiter all he had to say was "I'll mention it to the kitchen". And that was it. No apology for raw and uncooked food or for anything else.

Fantastic place for afternoon meal and pint. Food arrived on time. Old building with traditional English PUB climate.

Orders two small breakfasts Ie bacon sausage FRIED egg hash brown and beans Got bacon scrambled egg hash brown and beans No sausage Sent it back Got my sausage final but the fried egg machine is not working??? So only had 1 bacon 1 sausage and a measley amount of beans Would have left a better review if I had known before the order was made and sent

I ordered scrambled eggs and toast, it was served quickly but although the plate was hot the eggs were nearly cold. I told the waitress and she said she'd sort it and came back a few minutes later with the whole lot quite obviously microwaved. Eggs were a solid rubbery mess and the toast was soggy. Never again.

Busy pub fast service and good atmosphere

The worst Wetherspoons food I've ever eaten. Spoons food is usually reliably good. Not here. I had steak and kidney pie [dry, only just warm), warm chips, cold peas. No gravy until I asked for it; then a gelatinous slurp of warm gravy (not heated through properly) arrived in a jug by an apologetic waitress. A totally un-appetising meal. I'm not sure why I ate it!

Great value. No complaints as yet. My local Wetherspoons. Google has asked me for an update 21-11-22 so they retain their 5 star's as my breakfast was deeeelicious 😋 23-4-23 I've visited dozens of wetherspoons and this is by far the best food . 19-10-24 still happy.

Nice for a quick pint or snacky lunch or dinner. Staff are ok. Some are a bit too busy to be friendly, but all in all, a nice pub for a drink and chat with your mates after doing your weekly shop in Sainsbury's

I visited the pub for breakfast. Service was good and quick, unfortunately that is the only good that can be salvaged from my visit. This place seems to have a "no cook" policy in place for their bacon so BEWARE! My coffee cup still had lipstick on it it from another patron. Beans were fine.

I have been to this Wetherspoons many times and always mean to write a review. I came to Wetherspoons tonight for dinner with my husband and was not disappointed. Amazing staff that couldn’t do enough and great food, presented and prepared beautifully.

Wetherspoons always has great food at good prices. The service was speedy even on the app and we managed to find a table. The great thing about the app us that you can pick a table, order and keep chatting to your guests.i t even tells you the waiting time, which was accurate. Once your initial order is booked you can add extras as you wish and pay via Google or Apple Pay. The only issue can be the noise when the pub is full, a great atmosphere but makes it harder to hear what your parents are saying. Otherwise recommended.

Great place. The staff are excellent.

I come here for the cocktail pitches 2 for £15 or 1 for £8.50 most of them are lush the only downfall is when we ordered a bowl of cheesy chips for £5.41 it is a small portion when other places it would be a large portion for that price. Overall do recommend visiting the red lion as they do have more to offer for food at good prices just not the cheesy chips or loaded chips.

The first time I was there, there was a terrible fight, harsh words by a woman towards the barlady. She disrupted the entire pub and atmosphere. I hope she was banned. Other than that it was pleasant

Good food, nice enough staff I can't fault that. Its just a shame the loud rowdy Bitterne locals ruin the pub. Other reviews here suggest loud rowdy lads at breakfast times. Yes I can confirm it IS that rowdy in here. Loud swearing groups of lads, women, megaphone laughing, if you don't like your ears deafened by others you won't like drinking or dining in here. Just be warned about it its rough and Friday nights are the worst.

Shocking service, ordered food and drink on the app. The food came out before the drinks but one meal had to go back because the food was cold. By the time it came back out other meal was finished. Staff basically couldn't give a toss.

I am sorry to say that it's gone down hill, service not as good as in the past. And the baked beans have been cold for the last 4 times we have been. So started going elsewhere when we can.

Unpleasant atmosphere, if I was alone I would feel uncomfortable there. Food is very mediocre at best and is definitely worse than some other wetherspoons I have visited.

This isn't the biggest pub in the wetherspoons chain but it's still got lots to offer. There's the normal weth menu which caters for all taste's for all times of day. The food came fairly quickly and was well prepared and hot. Staff were all pretty friendly and there was a good atmosphere if a little loud.

Absolutely loved my experience at The Red Lion in Bittern! The atmosphere was welcoming, the staff were friendly, and the food was delicious. It's definitely become my go-to spot for a great meal and a relaxing time with friends. Highly recommend.

Food and drink was good but bar staff could do with training and customer service training

Cheap drinks and food. Great if you want a night out and you are short of money. Been here many times and the staff work hard. Good for couples and families.

Made a mistake coming in for breakfast 11am on Monday. Locals restless. Bad lad pub vibe and food was utter rubbish. Extra star cause the staff are friendly and competent.

Really nice pub with good service. Typical Weatherspoons fare, chips are great, food delivered quickly. My word the vegetarian "BEYOND BURGER" has shrunk! It is almost half the size it was.

Frequent visitors for a weekend breakfast when we decide we're popping out and want to eat on the way. Can't go wrong with a spoons breakfast, never had a bad one yet and spot on for a good price.

It's always a pleasure to visit a Wetherspoons pub and The Red Lion was no exception. Several rough-looking characters came out as we approached but I reasoned if they were outside they weren't inside. It was very crowded but we managed to get a table. All we wanted was coffee and it was half the price we pay elsewhere plus free refills - just help yourself at the machine. Small complaint: there were no spons near the nachine.

Ordered food. After 45mins told busy in kitchen. When 1hr came we asked where food was to be told it will be soon. 10mins later got food with an apology for being late. Fish was nice and hot. Chips and peas warm. Drinks arrived ok.

I had my first beer here in 1974, it became my regular haunt with the Bitterne Boys. It's changed a few times. It's a Wetherspoon so you know what you're going to get. The clientele are the same wherever you go, the food and beer is always the same quality. Upstairs was nice.

Took ten minutes to get two coffee cups. Breakfast acceptable. Not the best WS for food. Yet again at WS, no black pudding available!

Went in yesterday for first time, the food was excellent, had a haloumi wrap, not sure if I had made the right decision, but it was amazing. Only issue I had was we had to find a table upstairs and I have a disability so it was painful to get up the stairs

I like Wetherspoons, have visited quite a few over the years. It has been maybe three years since I last went to one, and although still good, just not as much. I understand them trying to keep costs down menu choice we ordered did not compare to what it was. Would rather pay a bit more for the food to be honest.

As a American it was a nice place

Food was good service was okay but not as fast as in other occasions and they did leave me waiting like 15 min for a takeaway container, they said they would bring it to my table but nothing so i ended up having to go to them again and wait there just to make sure they didnt forget. Been there before and is always busy so im not surprised.

If you want a good price for a pint... Go here! Punk IPA and an 8" pizza for £7. You can't complain at that!

Its a Wetherspoons, it certainly doesnt come with any airs and graces but this one does a pretty good job of delivering a tasty meal at a decent price and quickly. Couldnt ask for more from it.

My friends and I visit this pub weekly (even twice in a week) and we have had some great time there. Staff are always polite, efficient and you can tell they work very hard! Only thing that would make it better would be some music but understand that’s not Weatherspoons vibes.
