We are local living in the next village and invited some friends for Sunday lunch. We were horrified to learn that at 2.15 they had run out of beef and cauliflower cheese. They serve until 4pm. I then ordered pan fried chicken which was overcooked and tough, the portion was half a chicken breast. The roast potatoes were not roast potatoes very tough to get in to. The vegetables were stringy all in all this was the worst Sunday roast we have had and we eat out at least 2/3 times a week. Finally I do not mind paying for good food but to add insult to injury the food and drinks were overpriced. They are charging city centre prices. I will not be recommending this pub to all our foodie friend

WOW. Three exquisite courses (Ploughman's/half and half roast/Earl Grey Brulee) where I couldn't fault anything. Each and every plate was perfectly seasoned and fresh. It was up against the marvellous Pheasant at Neenton in my mind as my favourite "pub restaurant" meal of the last twelve months, and I think The Red Lion just pips them to the post (for now.) Absolutely brilliant, brilliant cookery.

Visited for the new menu launch on Thursday evening. Absolutely fantastic meal and service! The new menu has such a variety of options it's difficult to choose from so we will definitely be coming back to try out the other dishes on the menu. The food was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. My wife and me differ in our food preferences as i enjoy exploring new combinations and tastes where as she enjoys what she knows and goes for her go to options and it's great to see a nice mix of something a little bit different while retaining the classic options for those who prefer the usual offerings. There is an excellent selection of drinks with some smaller breweries which is nice to see support for which leads the bar offering away from the basic every day ales and lagers you see at most pubs. Our overall experience was great! Food cooked perfectly, welcoming and friendly service and an balanced menu offering. I also noticed they do a lunchtime deal for two courses for £15 which we will definitely make use of as this seems such good value for money given the standard of the food and service at this beautiful village pub.

Bought our family gift vouchers for Xmas and picked the Red Lion for a Sunday dinner. On arrival the place was empty except one other family, was freezing cold and lacked any atmosphere. We were sat next to the other family so we asked to move for more room. The lad said he would have to ask his manager, what?. Food was just OK, beef was tough and had to order parsnips as a side dish that came very undercooked. Sadly we won't be going back and feel we wasted the vouchers and should have gone to the Moat House.

We really enjoyed our evening out here. The pub is really nice with a lovely Christmassy feel to it! The restaurant is well laid out and cosy, with a log burner in the middle of the room. We were seated promptly and both our servers were friendly. The menu has a good choice; we had a starter each, a main each and one pudding. All of the food was presented well, was very tasty and served piping hot. I had the pork belly for main and the flavours were fabulous. My only slight critique is that the portion sizes are on the small side. We will definitely return.

Four of us met up for a meal. We all had something different and all found it to be excellent. As we were all former National Servicemen our ages ranged from 85 to 92 and it was remarked that it was a considerable improvement of the forces catering we had endured! It proved to be an enjoyable occasion helped by the good food and pleasant ambience.

Me and several other members of my cycling club happened upon the Red Lion looking for a halfway stop to have lunch this Saturday. The premises looked very upmarket outside so we were worried we may be turned away being in cycling kit but this was not the case. We couldn't have been made to feel more welcome and the staff were very friendly and accomodating. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and decided to ask if we could also stop there on our return journey the next day which was not a problem. We all enjoyed our meals the next day too. Many thanks for having us all.

I have visited this restaurant in the past but not for 18 months or so. Diabolical food placed in front of me and my Mum this evening. Belly pork with crackle was ordered, what we were given was a luke warm soggy, congealed piece of fat which you couldn't put a knife through let alone chew, we are both well aware of what it should have been. I'm not sure how we could have been served something so poor. The service was as good as it could have been under the circumstances. We left without eating. Very disappointed and would not recommend travelling out to this remote restaurant for a decent meal.

A very disappointing menu. If we hadn’t been with a friend we would have left and gone elsewhere. The menu lacked imagination and any sort of inspiration. Fir the amount of food on the plate it was expensive. Two of us only had a main course because of the poor choices available. This pub is part of a larger group and we have visited them all. This was by far the poor relation!

A thoroughly delicious meal which we could not fault. Generous portions, but not over facing. Our choices were beautifully cooked and presented pork belly and 3 meaty sausages with mash. Went here as a family with a two year old for dinner. Could not fault the service at all. They were so accommodating, especially with our toddler. Very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious on the whole. Only issue was oversalting of the sauces. We like salt but the steak sauces and gravy was inedible. Gammon and steaks were superbly cooked. Will definitely give it another try but might give the sauces a miss. The waiting staff here are absolutely excellent and the pub itself is lovely.

Have used Red Lion for years and recommended it as the place to go for Sunday lunch. Following yesterday’s experience I can no longer do that. They have adopted the ready plated manner of serving which I dislike, pork no longer of previous quality, veg weary and I suspect had been hanging around, preceded by a bland parsnip soup. Place appears understaffed ,thus long waits, leaving Tom struggling to hold it all altogether and mollify clientele .

I last reviewed The Red Lion in 2017 and at that time I was very impressed with the restaurant, the menu, the quality of the food and the outstanding service. Well the restaurant in this lovely old pub hasn't changed much since then, it's still a cosy well furnished room with lots of oak beams and well spaced tables - somewhere very pleasant to spend some time. Service is also still excellent and they took very good care of us. They also still serve a range of cask ales and have a varied well priced wine list including a very nice NZ Sauvignon. The menu still has a pubby feel with old favourites like fish & chips, pies, steak, gammon etc. but it no longer offers much in the way of more up market items like pork belly, sea bass (outstanding last time) or duck 3 ways which is a shame. Our meals had their ups and downs. The duck pate starter was smooth, creamy and tasted lovely but it only came with two tiny pieces of crostini. The starter of vegetable spring rolls were crispy as hoped for and were well presented. The battered fish was absolutely perfect, a nice fish in a thin almost tempura like batter, the best we've had in a long time. Unfortunately the chips were greasy and undercooked, not crisp at all (probably the temperature of the oil was too low) but the mushy peas were nice. The sausage and mash with vegetables was very good with meaty strong flavoured sausages but there were only two when I expected three, as a result I ended up only eating mashed potato at the end of the meal. Surely for £15 they could have run to one extra sausage. Both of our friends had the chicken & ham pie with mash, while the pastry was thin and crispy the contents of the pie were a bit dry even after the separate gravy (which seemed to be beef or onion and didn't go too well with the chicken) had been poured over them. On a wet Wednesday lunchtime it was very quiet (probably because it is off the beaten track) and there were only 3 tables taken in the restaurant which may be why the menu was not as varied and why some of the food wasn't of the same standard as our previous visits. As it is such a lovely pub and restaurant, and because overall we enjoyed our visit, we intend to give it another go in the near future.

Been several times before, and raved about the food (service by two male servers are always good) to all our friends and family who live in Staffordshire. On this occasion, we were sadly disappointed in our meal (fish and chips - previously enjoyed several times back in 2022). Don't know how they could charge the price to compare to the portion size of what they have given us before. Nor could anyone say the fish was battered - more like a dusting. Its one of my husband's fave dishes, and he was so disappointed this time round. I am not sure how many chips people do get from memory, but its never been presented as a stackable cut to perfection 9 oblong chips - if only they spent the same amount of time on the presentation of a batter fish - then I may be speaking about a different outcome. Both the chips and fish were nice - but no way near to the fine dining/gastro pub experience that we had before (or compared to their sister pub, the Dog and Doublet, where we go often). Shame really. I would say the last times we have been there, there has been only a handful of people in the place (including bar area) - however this time they had a large table of people of 6, and several other tables of 3 to 4 people - so this may be the reason of attention to detail was different to the other times - which is no excuse as standards should be maintained. But my husband, put a different spin on it. Perhaps they changed the chef from last year? Given them an overall rating 4 out of 5 based on previous visits - as they were excellent before.

My boyfriend and I visited the red lion yesterday for a Sunday roast and we were not disappointed! The beef was cooked to perfection (pink) just how it should be, we were asked if we’d be okay with it being pink as the chef could cook it more brown if preferred. All aspects of the food were fabulous, roast potatoes were delicious, nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, veg had plenty of flavour and the gravy.. wow! After our mains we both had the crumble and custard for dessert which was just the right amount of sweetness to finish us off for a Sunday evening. We were greeted at the bar by a young man and shown to our table by the wait staff in the restaurant. All the staff were friendly and very helpful! Would recommend the red lion at Bradley to anyone!

We had not been since the lockdown (we are both in our seventies) so today was a bit special for us. We had lunch. The menu is shorter than pre-covid19, but everything looked good. My rump steak was cooked perfectly to my order and was as tasty as always. My wife chosethe teriaki chicken skewers dish and was very impressed; I was happy to clear her leftovers and found it good - to be revisited next month. My pint of Hereford Pale Ale was excellent and the barman friendly and helpful. We were made to feel welcome, safe and valued by the restaurant staff (Olivia and Tom, on this occasion). We were greeted by friendly genuine staff who were very attentive through out with out being pushy or rushing us ( thank you ladies)We had a drink in the bar before being shown to our table. Being Sunday they had a Sunday menu in operation, as Sunday menus go it was varied, interesting and all very appealing. We opted for the chicken and ham terrine ( which was very tasty and fresh, the bubble and squeak starters which I was informed was excellent. Main course was roast. We had a slice of each. Portions where good and the meat was tender and extremely well cooked and tasty. The mains came with a great selection of vegetables and garnishes. We opted for some extras too.. sadly..... we could not find room for dessert. The food was exceptional, the service was second to none and we will be back for sure. We've visited The Red Lion many times and were looking forward to our 1st visit post lockdown. Everything was really well organised-sanitiser on entry, staff in PPE and a one way system. The menu looked as good as ever, we skipped starters (would love to see more traditional options again!) and opted for Roast Beef main and Egg Custard Tart dessert. While most of the main was lovely, the beef was sadly very tough and chewy which we've not had at The Red Lion before. A real shame as we all felt it let our meal down. Also would have liked a better veg selection (Parsnips, brocolli/beans usually served). This also coupled with two of us having upset stomachs today, which of course could be a coincidence. The Egg Custard Tart however was beautiful!Staff are always really friendly and helpful and everything was catered for perfectly. However we were dissapointed with the beef and may leave it a little while before revisiting on a Sunday again.

We stopped here on our way from London to Liverpool. The oven was broken (!) so the menu was limited. We were told as soon as we came in, and chose to stay. The service was friendly and the place had a nice feel to it. The menu was interesting, seemingly with something for everyone. However, the food was quite disappointing. None of us were really happy with what we ordered.

Our friends have just moved to this area so we decided to give the Red Lion a try. First impressions are an attractive building which has been modernised. A winters evening it was warm and looked welcoming despite the opened out look and rather standardised seating. We passed on starters which looked quite interesting. Not sure why but found it hard to find something I fancied on the menu as did the other 7 who mostly ended up with steaks. I had the pork which was fine although on the cool side. The rump steaks were not too good and fillet did not have much flavor. Three had sweets and it worked out at 80 pound per couple with wine and drinks which I consider on the pricey side. Service was fine, friendly and efficient.

Afternoon tea for my sisters birthday ... shown to the table promptly and asked what drinks we would like ... waited a while but was told our food would be with us shortly when it did arrive it was lovely plenty of cakes and the sandwiches were delicious too much food really for 6 of us .... my only criticisms would be they put us right out of the way of other guests by a big window and we were all very cold and also right next to the kitchen which was noisy and had the radio on full listening to the football commentary which was rather annoying but afternoon tea was delicious

Booked a table nearly a week in advance and provided email for confirmation of booking which I received. Arrived to be told our table was cancelled, they suggested this had been done by myself. I confirmed this wasn’t the case and showed my confirmation email. We were told we couldn’t have a table in the main restaurant as no space but could in the bar. They put us near a great big glass door so it was quite cold. They advised they would speak to central reservation team to establish what happened. We were there for over 3 hours and I didn’t receive an answer. Nor did they offer a free drink or anything to compensate in my view their error. Positively the food was good but was overshadowed a-little by this service and presumption I was in the wrong. Def go there for lunch, it’s nice but make sure you call and double check you have a table still.

Went this Saturday with family and friends to celebrate my wife's birthday. Not a good start to find out no mussel starter, no cod stew or fish and chips as they had sold out, which was surprising for an early Saturday night. The kofta scotch eggs as a starter were different and full of flavour. 5 of us went for the fillet steak which was cooked to perfection and really tasty. 2 of us had the chicken and mushroom pies which were equally as good, as was the vegetarian main of veg in a spicey sauce. The chips had not been cooked long enough and were limp and greasy. They have changed the menu and sadly the chocolate brownie with black coconut ice cream has been removed and replaced with a sticky toffee pudding which tasted very gritty. It still has a great relaxing atmosphere both in the pub and restaurant and the staff were helpful and friendly. We went several times in 2019 and I gave it 5 stars both times, but the food has slipped to a 3, brought upto a 4 by the staff.

We came here for dinner on Friday night at 6.30pm, just 3 adults and a small child. I would like to add that the young waiting on team were actually very friendly and polite so I have nothing negative to say about them at all before I go into service aspects. We ordered mains and a bottle of wine, nice and simple! Well my main came and the level of cooking was that excellent that they somehow managed to completely undercook the middle yet cremate ( I mean blacker than black) the outside of my my cauliflower steak. I was also given the smallest amount of katsu sauce and the hand cooked chips that I ordered simply didn’t arrive. After picking at the cremated bits of food i had I then asked about extra sauce and the chips I ordered which were brought over to the table a while after. No check back done during any point of the meal and probably about 3/4 of my food was left on my plate when the mains were cleared, again not asked if everything was ok. Ordered desserts, mine was a nice small hard piece of sticky toffee pudding (although the sauce and custard were actually quite nice). I might add that the restaurant was not busy at all throughout the evening, there were 3 other tables when we received our mains although it did pick up slightly through the meal. When the bill came I was reluctant to even say anything but my mother in law decided to mention it to the very dismissive manager who then offered us a paltry 10% off the affected food. Well we eat out all the time but simply won’t be returning because of the attitude of this so called manager who failed to even listen to what we had to say and simply offered a very rude 10% off the affected food, which I declined anyway.

The Red Lion is a comfortable and welcoming place with a pleasant atmosphere. I go fairly frequently and usually enjoy the food. It’s probably one of the better places to eat in an area with very poor and overpriced eating facilities close to Stafford, Wolverhampton and Newport. Tonight I experienced the Christmas menu. The first course, chicken liver and brandy pâté with apple chutney & brioche was delicious and a generous portion. However as a teacher of more years than I care to remember, when it came to the main course, I’ve had far better school Christmas dinners. The presentation was poor, beige all over. The turkey was dry and tasteless, the ‘roast’ potatoes indescribable lumps; the stuffing had a strange artificial taste and the pig in blanket was greasy. The vegetables were a mixture of overcooked (swede mash) or cut too large and not crispy enough (parsnip). A grave disappointment. My friend, a committed carnivore, had a vegetarian dish, a Portobello mushroom wellington which was extremely tasty and to be recommended. My share of a bottle of excellent Douro wine saved my evening.

We have not been for a while, it's only just over 10 mins from Stafford and in a lovely village. It was simply a great night out. The food was freshly cooked and flavoursome, the service spot on and there is a good choice of drinks. My daughter and I had the mussels cooked in a lovely light garlic and white wine sauce...absolutely spot on. My son had the duck pate and wife had an amazing warm avocado and tomato brusetta. For mains my son had a perfectly cooked fillet steak, and the three of us had the most delicious hake on top of a white bean and chorizo broth. My son had a great chocolate brownie with the most amazing black coconut ice cream, my daughter had chorizos and warm chocolate sauce and wife had an apple and blackcurrant crumble. As we walked out the kids ( 23 and 25) said it was the best meal they've had for a long time- a great way to finish a lovely night out....tip= ensure you book as there was literally only one table left.

We have heard many good reviews on the Red Lion and for my wife’s birthday we booked a table. From the first steps in we were made very welcome, good selection of beers, lager and cocktails. The decor of the old pub is very nice. We were taken through to the restaurant by a lovely lady (Sarah) who explained the menu and took our order. The food arrived quickly and was delicious, scotch egg to die for, main, 10oz steak (MR). cooked to perfection. A excellent night out for my wife’s special birthday. Thank you to all the staff at The Red Lion. It was our first visit but not our last

We have heard about this pub from many friends, all giving fantastic reviews. So we decided to give it a try - and we were glad we did! The bar looks fantastic and for a small country pub there is a large selection of ales and lagers. Moving into the restaurant; we were informed that there was a new menu as of this week, and the choices in there were great, even for a vegetarian like myself. Everyone in the party was happy with everything they ordered (especially the Mussels starter!).

We have only just started to dine at The Red Lion as it’s not an area we visit or pass by. Our first trip was a last minute trip for Sunday lunch with friends. We all really enjoyed our Sunday to the point we were there for five hours, as we simply did not want to leave. Great company, service and food.

This was our first visit to The Red Lion and were looking forward to our visit. We chose sandwiches and both my husband and a I opted for the 'fresh' crab sandwich expecting exactly that.....fresh crab. Instead we were given brown bread wtrh what appeared to be a rather odd looking and tasting brown paste......far from fresh crab. I raised this with a member of staff who was very quick to point out that it was fresh but made into a paste. There was no apology for the misleading menu which clearly states 'fresh'crab. This particular pub prides itself on using the very best ingredients....It's a shame it doesn't offer the same with its sandwiches.

Lovely pub with a good sized restaurant, Service very good. However, the food was very average, not sure whether the cook had been to the Caribbean but it seemed a very Anglicised version of what it should be.

Complacency is the destroyer of all restaurants. Just been for lunch at the red lion Bradley. Terrible. Food not seasoned properly, cheep ingredients, bought in chips, granular gravy. Terrible. They have sat back on the reputation and are simply not trying to cook good fresh food anymore. LP is doing something drastically wrong with its outlets and it’s a terrible shame.

Having been consistently excellent, yesterdays was definitely disappointing. Chips not home cooked, tasteless peppercorn sauce & sticky toffee pudding which wasn't! The lamb main course had 3 tiny half potatoes buried under veg.Sponge with a melted muscavado sauce poured over it is NOT sticky toffee pudding. May have two give a miss for awhile as it wasn't even busy.

What a lovely way to spend our Saturday afternoon. Lunch here was lovely. The only critique would be the amount of crisps. 4 crips was a bit poor! Other than that the food was delicious. The tea was very tasty too. I’m very picky with tea. But This was lovely. Staff were wonderful and was smiling and seemed happy which is always nice to see. We will be visiting again soon. As I very much enjoyed the peace and quiet away from main cafe/bars.
