Relaxing lunch for nine of us was very chilled no stress or feeling of being rushed. Staff were great very helpful one of us got a pint of ale but it wasn't great so they changed it no fuss no hassle. Food was great, tasted loverly and come out hot. Definitely be back again.

This is one of those historic pubs tucked away in a period village that is simply a gem. Outstanding food and attentive service. Plenty of choices for everyone from carnivores to vegans. Not only an extensive standard menu, but quite a generous specials board as well. The sirloin steak (served on a sizzling platter) is as tender as a fillet and delicious, too. My wife's vegan burrito contained a surprising variety of vegetables instead of the standard mere peppers and onions. And the cheesecake to finish it off was chef's kiss. Liked it so much we're going back again this weekend to try some other selections!

Culross is a great place to visit and then top it off with a great meal by visiting The Red Lion Inn. Took our Australia friends for a day out and ended up eating at the place. We all had a streak pie and the unanimous decision was that these were some of the best pies we had ever eaten. Succulent pieces of tender beef in a rich sauce. The pies were so filling that no one had room for desert. Will certainly be back again.

Great food, took my auntie out for lunch, she said the steak pie was the best she has had in a long time! I had mushroom Stroganoff which was tasty and would make a delicious filling for a veg/ vegan pie option!🤤

I've been to the Red Lion many times, and it's always great. I was in for lunch on Saturday. I was diagnosed with colon cancer 6 months ago,, and been receiving chemotherapy for the last 4 months and have lost my appetite. I had the steak pie on Saturday and it was the first meal that I've completed in 6 months.. I'll definitely be back soon for another. The staff are always brilliant too.

Haven't been here since before Covid so didn't know if there would be any changes. The place is still the same quaint setting and the same brilliant home cooked food. Taken on our booking time and order taken and served within 10 mins. Haggis Creggans starter always a favourite which was devoured in minutes. Chicken burrito extremely tasty also came with loads of chips. Sunday special lamb rump and Mash was unbelievable and a massive portion. Sticky toffee desert was decent and loads of sauce which for me was too much. All in all for £50 Sunday dinner great value and we will definitely be back. Staff were very friendly and nothing was a problem.

Excellent customer service from all waiting staff but young man Tom was especially more impressive. 4.30pm Sunday afternoon, 6-8 tables free, 2 with no reserved signs. We sat down for a drink but decided we might as well look at the menu. Soon accosted by young male staff wanting to know *who* had allowed us to sit down as *all* tables were reserved. We indicated the lack of reserved signs at 2 tables but our host explained that this was due to other customers breaking signs.. We suggested just having a drink. At 4.30pm it seemed unlikely that 6-8 tables worth of diners would stampede through the door within the next 15-20 minutes. But 'no, not really' we were told. The purpose of nearly half the tables in the Red Lion was to sit rent-free waiting patiently for promised customers. Quite frankly we could take our money elsewhere - which of course we did.

I’ve been coming to Culross for many years and always eat at the red lion. Last few times, it’s not been up to the usual standard but today it surpassed itself. I ordered goats cheese with crusty bread instead of oatcakes. It wasn’t busy so no excuses for meals not prepared properly. The crusty bread turned out to be cheap brown bread, so thin I couldn’t spread butter on it. When I pointed this out to the waitress she said “that must be all they had, ok “ as she trotted off. Well actually, no it’s not ok, but she didn’t hang around for my reply. The goats cheese wasn’t cooked through, resembling cottage cheese and Luke warm. It’s a shame because it really was our go to place for special occasions as well as on day trips. Not sure if it’s changed ownership but it’s definitely not the same place it used to be. You’ve lost two loyal customers.

I Invited family members to lunch; unfortunately, I could not join them on the day! The staff were really understanding and beyond helpful on the phone when I called to change the booking number and arrange some details for the lunch. Having been many times I knew my guests were in good hands! Some guests had been before but for some, it was a first visit. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, there was a special mention of how fantastic the Haggis and Steak Pies were, the Steak pie seemed as always perfect in every way, and The Fish again as always was cooked to perfection and very much enjoyed by the three people who choose it, The Burgers were " Delicious" not my words. That is all before the ravings about the Apple Pie, Banoffee, Salted Caramel Sunday, and Chocolate and Rasberry Tart. The Nelson's Ice Cream was enjoyed by everyone aged between 3 and 76 years high praise indeed. I can not Thank the staff enough for as always great service! My only regret other than not being there is not knowing which staff to Thank personally! Wishing each of you all the very best for 2024, and not having to work too hard this evening! See you soon xx

I was taking grandson on adventure of London, then Edinburgh We were on a tour for Outlander and stopped at Culross to see sights. Stopped to eat at The Red Lion restaurant. The restaurant is like going back in time. The atmosphere is so cool and real. Grandson had the Mexican style burrito I had the soup and cheese breads. Both were excellent. Give way too much to eat but was worth it. Grandson had hot chocolate as the weather was changing and getting windy and cooling off. This restaurant is worth going to if you have the time, and is not expensive. You can spilt a meal or have a couple meals and sample as there are a number of good selections. Wish I had the fish and chips as I really enjoyed that while over there. Great place to eat, walk the streets, see Scotland , fun adventure I will always remember.

I had a very disappointing meal at the Red Lion last night. The sweet potato and falafel balls with boiled rice and curry sauce was mediocre. I’m sure the balls were not made on the premises but a caterers version of Gosh falafel balls, and they were very dry. The curry sauce was quite tasteless and did little to counteract the dryness of the rest of the dish. I debated ordering a dessert - nothing really appealed - but went for the sticky toffee pudding on the waiter’s recommendation. It was so dry I could hardly swallow it and my friend declared it “rank”. The waiter - who was very personable and pleasant - heard us saying this and came over, at which point the two people at the next table also complained about the same dessert, one saying his was cold and the lady saying hers was a “funny texture”. The waiter was very apologetic and embarrassed. He took the desserts away and an older man I took to be the manager appeared. I thought he was going to apologise but he bypassed us and went to the fireplace to sort something. The only saving graces of the evening were the waiter, the nice surroundings and the company of my friends. I won’t, however, be back.

A great wee cosy pub in this beautiful village. It was full which says alot and there is a very comprehensive menu. We ordered the sirloin steak on a sizzler and steak pie. Both were really nice but unfortunately the veg served with the steak pie was stone cold and other than the steak it all could have done with being a little warmer. That said, it was good quality pub food and the staff were welcoming and friendly.

We have been going to the Red Lion for years, I had American friends who flew over from Boston and we’re staying in Edinburgh but took them to the Red Lion 3 weeks ago and the standard of food one again was amazing to the fact they purchased vouchers for us to use again which we did tonight. We were so disappointed, with our meals my husband had the Scampi but there was more pea’s than the actual Scampi me and my daughter had the steaks there was so much fat on them the steak beef was half the size of the actual steak. We also ordered the Peppercorn sauce which didn’t arrive either the meal waited 5 mins then had to ask where the sauce was. The one thing we absolutely love is there Sticky Toffee pudding what they gave and presented us with was a dry shop pudding that we didn’t finish they have really let there standards down, it really saddens me as this use to be an amazing restaurant but not so now.

Been here quite a few times and really enjoyed the food however I was extremely disappointed today. I ordered the pork loin which was very dry and tough with so much fat on it. I did say I couldn't eat it and the waitress did inform the chef. Was offered a desert or drink, neither of which I wanted. I think I should have been offered a reduction in price as clearly most of the pork was still on my plate.

The Red Lion had been suggested to us do we popped in for lunch. Staff were fab and attentive, menu was quite extensive. Portions were more than ample and the onion rings were just THE best. Price wise. For 2 mains, a side, 2 g&ts, a cider and a latte for under £50!!!! Brilliant. Desserts sounded amazing but our pudding corner was already full! This is a community owned pub, probably the social centre of the village. Great it has been saved.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the Red Lion in Culross. The menu is extensive and the staff work flat out to serve the many patrons who visit the Red Lion. If there is such a thing as a traditional inn offering a wide range of food and drink this would be it. Throughout our stay the inn was buzzing with locals and Culross visitors.

Came in on Thursday for 2pm lunch. As always, was very busy with a mix of locals and plenty tourists. We come her as often as we can as the food is always delicious, and the service excellent; the staff are clearly rushed off their feet, and some customers forget this is the only restaurant in the village serving proper meals and therefore availability is scarce if you haven't pre-planned and booked ahead. We had the Cheddar and Jalapeno creamy mushrooms to start - always a favourite. I had the Cheese and Pineapple salad (noticed the portion seems to have reduced) and my husband had the Gammon Steak. Both equally delicious and the Gammon was cooked perfectly. The walkway between the bar area and outside was so busy with outside diners constantly coming in to order more drinks or check the status of their meal, so it might be worthwhile having some sort of bell/ app device where the customers who sit outside can order drinks / monitor their order via an App so as not to constantly be blocking the bar area and actually bumping into / leaning on diners tables as they eat. That being said, we fully understand what to expect in the height of the tourist season, and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch yet again. Look forward to our next visit.

Having been here over the years I always enjoyed the food however when I pulled up and saw the brakes catering truck outside my heart sank. We ordered the Tempura Prawns listed as a ‘special’ on the board. 5 Low quality frozen prawns arrived similar to the cheap frozen products you buy from a well-known freezer food shop. At £10 per portion they were also overpriced as well as exceptionally poor quality. Sadly the chips were the same, clearly frozen and not nice. It’s such a shame as it is a community owned establishment now but unless they improve the food offer I can’t see them having many return customers anymore.

Enjoyed two visits to the Red Lion during a weekend stay in beautiful Culross. Steak and haggis pie and halloumi wrap made a lovely lunch. Saturday night specials included slow cooked lamb rump and pork with Dijon cream sauce, both delicious. Some local draft ales...

Lovely Food, freshly cooked and plenty of it. Good selection of gluten free which is sometimes difficult to get. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Lovely little place, staff very friendly.

Food was ridiculously good. The lamb was beautiful, the desserts were totally uncalled for but glutinously fantastic. And all the staff were lovely, including our waitress who had to point out the obvious 😂😂. Cheers

Visited here for a relaxing spot of lunch with a pint. However, I noticed a group of people vaping at the table opposite me. They continued as staff were mopping up under their table after a few drinks got knocked over. Yet, the staff said nothing! I then asked a young man, who brought the food to my table, if vaping was permitted in the pub. He said it wasn't, so I suggested he tell this to the table of which I was pointing to. He just looked over at them and then walked away. When I had ordered my meal, I opted for the larger size madras for just an extra £1.40. It arrived rather quickly and was quite nice but it came without the chutney which is supposed to accompany the dish. This is usually a real nice Spoons but I'm disappointed with the experience on this occasion.

What a fantastic place. Friendly staff, gorgeous cafe (loving the hanging plants!) and delicious food. A total win for our family - both gluten-free and ‘normal’. Highly recommend the GF Reuben sandwich - absolutely delicious. The all day breakfasts the others had also looked amazing and the bacon was “the best and crispiest”!

Me and my family visited this weekend for birthday celebrations and had a great experience. The food was lovely and well priced matched. As for the staff they were all very friendly and polite and were great at checking on our table when appropriate, especially the young waiter named Finlay. 10/10 service, would come back again.

The drinks were amazing but there are so many drinks and my family couldnt choose which ones. My sister chose the strawberries and cream frappe and she didnt like it, if only there were little samples of drinks you can try. 😂

Located within minutes of the High Street, shopping and a few restaurants this spot is a great central location for the city. I only spent 1 night in Dunfermline but felt like i had good access to anything I’d need from this location. PRO’s - Staff - everyone I chatted with were super accommodating and helpful. - Parking - there are a few dedicated parking spots under the building on the backside of where you may drive past when en route to the hotel. If those are full, there’s also a large paid lot. - Restaurant- I had the steak pie with veggies for dinner, it was pretty tasty and filling. The veggies were steamed and fresh, but a little dry, so would be nice to have a sauce of some kind included with them. - Breakfast was good with a small, essential selection of hot breakfast options, as well as toast, tea and coffee. Would have enjoyed some juice, and water but didn’t ask. Most of the places I stay which offer those items have them out and readily available for guests. - Room - I’m a solo traveler on this recent visit so I booked a single room, which had just a twin bed. The area is small but pretty well laid out and felt decently spacious. Con’s/Suggestions - The bathroom mirror is mounted pretty high, so most people (especially women) of average height would not be able to use it. The room I had (26) had a lot of available space in the bathroom, would love to see a small table or something in there for holding toiletries when getting ready in the morning. And access to a mirror for makeup and such. - Would be great to have some kind of luggage stand to put my bag on instead of it having to be on the floor. - The TV was mounted above the desk and very much off to the side from the bed, which limited viewing of the TV. In general I enjoyed my stay here and could see booking this spot again.
