Stopped here on a drive back home for Sunday lunch & was so impressed by the food. I had the roast lamb which is the best I've ever had along with a couple of pints of the own Red Lion beers which went down a treat. My girlfriend had the steak pie & both dishes were hot, wholesome, home made & so tasty. It's one of the most old school pubs I've been to in terms of its decor which I really liked & was full of the local people of the village. Service was excellent & both dishes & drinks came to only £28 which is incredible & reminiscent of prices from the 90's, highly recommend & when we are in the area again we will definitely be visiting.

A wonderful Ye Olde pub with fantastic staff. Only a short walk from the canal where we were moored up. The food here is excellent, home cooked and a lot of it, we ate here twice during our visit. The food is very cheap for what you get, drinks are also very reasonably priced. The pub is very dog friendly, well just friendly all round, nothing is too much trouble. Thank You for a wonderful time, from Steve, Helen and Star (dog)

Nice little pub, very convenient for a lunch break on a long drive on the M1. The decor is typical old pub style, low ceiling etc. The food was reasonably priced and very good. We had scampi & chips, and steak pie & chips. The pie was delicious. Service was fast. It’s a popular place for a reason.

Wasn’t the most welcoming entrance. Luckily the lady who served the food was really pleasant. She makes the pub. Lots on the menu to choose from, which is good value. We won’t be returning back here though. The moody bar lady told us to not allow buddy and toffee to sit in the alcove. She rather have them on the floor, in the gangway where people were walking up and down. So it wasn’t very relaxing having to keep moving our dogs out of the way.

Lunchtime out after a visit to Whilton Marina. Last here three years ago and always said that we'd be back. For a lunchtime the pub was packed, but a couple of tables available. Timothy Taylor on handpump was excellent, as was the food. Served quickly, was piping hot and plentiful and excellent vfm. Lovely village pub, nice welcome and we will be back!

Out of the blue we wanted to eat out but somewhere different. We pulled up in the carpark to find an old world building. We didn't book but a a table was cleared for up in the old inglenook. We had some lovely waitresses and bar maids who made us feel welcome. The food choice was large and vegetarian option was really good for my partner. The food was really nice and hot when it got to the table. The bill was presented and I was expecting it to be a lot more. Definitely a place to go again.

The evening menu is great. The food was absolutely delicious. It is home made food. The men had steak and kidney pie in suet pastry. Amazing. The ladies had smoked fish and mozzarella fish cakes with tarter sauce, chips and salad. Delicious. Great atmosphere. Wonderful staff. Very reasonable prices. We had ice cream to finish. A really great evening. Drinks reasonable too. Thank you. Irene x Good parking. Few outside tables as smoking area plus bigger area for outside dining.

Really friendly pub - quite busy for pretty early on a weekday - it felt like a proper 'local', and the food was great. My friend and I stayed on past closing time. We were sitting in the garden when the staff left, and they asked us to shut the gate when we were ready to go! (Luckily some other patrons were still around when it came to that and took on the job!) We each had a ploughman's lunch followed by ice cream - really good (and generous portions) of cheese plus some extremely pokey pickled onions! And excellent ice cream. We picked the Red Lion by chance but we're both really glad that we did.

Small party (5 of us) went for our Christmas lunch. Starter was very small. I had the ham hock terrine which should have had Christmas chutney(?) but came with piccalilli. It was nice but 2 small pieces of pitta bread seemed a bit mean. Mains came out and the plates were very cold. The food was tepid and the gravy was also very cold. These were sent back and we were assured fresh meals were being prepared. The mains came out on hot plates and the food was hot. Not entirely certain they hadn't just been microwaved. Desserts were nice enough but nothing to make you say wow. Overall disappointing meal for something that should have been enjoyable. Portions were very small considering the price of the Christmas menu. Background music was too loud.

I would highly recommend getting your fish & chips from here especially if you’re gluten intolerant as they have two nights a week where they can cater for you. Me and my friend come regularly on one of the gluten free nights. The fish is amazing and so are the chips, we always eat in and watch the world go by. The guys are so friendly we have a really good time with them. They even bring our coffees to us after we’ve eaten. Honestly the food is consistently delicious and well worth every penny.
