Maltsters Country Inn in Daventry

Called in on Pie night with my daughter in law, as where we usually eat weren't serving food. Not disappointed at all. Thursday is pie night and the pies were lovely, as we're the peas and onion gravy. We will definitely be back, the service was good too, very attentive. And, as a bonus, they do take outs too, which will be very handy!

I can’t praise this place enough. Simon was great from start to finish, super friendly with a warm welcome! I had planned a surprise 60th Birthday meal for my mum with close family & she was completely shocked that we had managed to keep this a secret. Simon was a fantastic host, with exceptional home cooked food. You could tell how passionate he was about delivering good quality food. Nothing was too much trouble & he went above and beyond, I cannot thank him enough for a fabulous experience🙂 If you haven’t been yet, I suggest booking in! We will be back.. especially for the Sunday Roast which has rave reviews xx

I didn't use the hotel service. Amazing food and drinks. Was a good time. Going back soon for the pie night on Thursday. The inn did have a busy Saturday lunch so not everything on the menu was available however it was clearly communicated. Would highly recommend.

I popped in with my friend, her daughter and my dog for Sunday lunch. They were able to seat us quickly even though there were a number of people in there. I had the Sunday roast which was excellent, the Yorkshire puddings were a real highlight as they were good homemade ones. The portions were excellent and it was a really filling meal. Staff were all friendly and we were advised that should we wish to go back they recommended booking for a Sunday lunch as they can’t always guarantee space.

Such a lovely pub, very friendly, food was fresh and very tasty. Great range of board games for a bit of entertainment. Great location for a stop off, as it's just off the A road. Simon the chef was very chatty and made us feel welcome and recommended some great dishes.

My fiance and I were staying at the Fawsley spa hotel but popped down to the Maltsters for a change of scenery. Even though they had 2 parties booked they squeezed us in and the food was exceptional. Simon greeted us with an explanation on the menu and me being a vegetarian I ordered the cheese and onion pie. The pie was like no other pie I have ever eaten before. All the locals were lovely even though we were not from the village and Simon even gave us a pie to take away. I couldn't speak more highly of this pub or the service. Thank you hopefully we will be back again soon!

Popped into the Maltsters for a bite to eat and a drink on my way back from London to Nottingham. Lovely little pub and fantastic value. Simon informed me it was pie night and for £10 for pie, chips and peas, I wasn't expecting such high quality. I think it is £16.00 on a standard menu night, which is still value such was the quality. Coupled with a pint for under £5.00, its a good job I'm not local otherwise I'd be there all the time! Great Service! Thanks

This is our new local after just moving to the area. Talk about making us feel welcome. Never felt so welcomed even if I am Australian and 6 ft 4 and requested VB on tap.... Myself and my family had a great Sunday roast. I will definitely be back and a regular patron. Cheers Simon and team.

Had an absolutely amazing Sunday lunch here. I think it was the best I’ve ever had! The highest praise I can give. All the family agreed it was delicious and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time as the service matched the quality of the food! Hope to be back very soon.

We popped in on Saturday to see if they do a gluten free Sunday lunch. After a moments thought, Simon said yes and the Sunday lunch he prepared was delicious, will definitely be going back.

Lovely nice place great service friendly vibes

From the approach in through the village I thought I was going to like this short one night stay but unfortunately the carpark at the rear of the Inn was very scruffy, unkempt as all the headge and trees surrounding it were overgrown with litter and old leaf stroon around the base, there was an old skip full of junk at one side of the park that looked like it had been there for months, as we parked up and headed inside to check in, the place looked tired and in need of tlc, not very clean and tidy, in the bar we picked up the key to our room witch was not bad compared to the rest of the place, be carfull of the very steep staircase though, was a bit like climbing a ladder, breakfast was terrible, I'm not going to say anymore about that suffice to say we couldn't wait to get in the car to find somewhere to eat. Nuf said

Lovely Sunday afternoon spent here amazing lunch! Its a really peaceful spot in a nice village. Great bar area and all of the people we met who worked there were very warm and friendly. Look forward to returning!

Traditional village pub with superb Sunday roast. Super service.

They must have changed the chef recently because the food was not good! We came as a large group and the majority of the dishes were lacking any flavours. Lamb shank and the fish pie were bland and the cheese burger came without any cheese. We left disappointed

Really enjoyed our stay here. We were here for 3 nights, breakfast. Dinner food is slow, took nearly over an hour for it to come but luckily we no rush and were having a catch up. Breakfast can come down any time as long as you don’t want cooked breakfast. Breakfast on the first day really good lots to choose from. Next 2 days no croissants at all and not so many muffins. Last day no water in kettle so not sure if could go into kitchen to get any so went to bathroom instead. Teapot was not cleaned out and was put away. Rooms all good gets very warm due to the landing heater is on so high so window had be left open. No room service at all. Milk was gone off, power pressure in the shower needs sorting as takes longer to have a shower. Otherwise nice place to come

This was a rather serendipitous find as a change of plan led to us being in an unfamiliar location but without an internet connection. We decided to change this pub and were very glad we did. The staff and owner could not have been more welcoming so we decided to stay for food. The menu looked great, with several possibilities for us vegetarians. We will definitely be returning when next in the area.

What a little hidden culinary gem this place is. My partner and I went by chance for dinner on a Friday evening. Having no previous idea of the place, we were extremely impressed with the quality and taste of the food! It felt like whomever is in the kitchen really cares about the food they are serving. We came on a Saturday for lunch as we decided to do a long walk around the area. It was quiet when we walked in (unusual I believe!). They had the fire on which was lovely. We all had the Steak and Ale pie which was delicious, homemade pie, there was plenty of steak, the chips were lovely and the mushy peas were homemade and really good! Very impressed. We also had banoffee pie and apple crumble, both of which were also super yum! The chef came out and spoke to us for a bit too, staff was great. Overall, highly recommend and will be back!

A lovely pub, great service and cheerful staff. Plenty of room in a relaxed atmosphere. I'm not keen on the cider on offer so I had Guinness, which was good at a fiver a pint...my local charges £5.60😳. We both had burgers from a good selection on menu. They were tasty and properly cooked, served with coleslaw chips and a little pot of cheese sauce, not just any cheese sauce, this was banging, a treat to the taste buds. It has paprika in it apparently 👍 So, a nice pub , recommended if you are passing,or if you can afford to live in the village. Support your local pub. 👍👍🍻

Lovely village pub. Great Sunday roast too. Been again for a little private celebration and again the food was lovely, nice atmosphere.

We were a large walking group and we booked in with Megan for a bacon Butty breakfast with coffees. Numbers and requirements changed as we got closer to the date but nothing was too much trouble. Thank you, a lovely start to what became quite a long walk at Christmas. Would love to come back and try the main meals. Everything looked lovely.

Stayed night here Christmas Day, such a lovely place and village. The room very clean, decorated well, comfy bed, lovely ensuite. Good breakfast. Very good value too compared to other places nearby. Highly recommend.

Service a bit slow, beautiful location and lovely building

Attended the fortnightly themed dinner service on Italian night. The food was delicious, service was great, and it was a lovely atmosphere, I would highly recommend.

I took me parents for Sunday lunch at the Malsters Country Inn. It was a really pleasant and relaxing atmosphere in a beautiful Village. They allowed dogs which was perfect as we had 4 little dogs with us after having been on a nice woodland-walk. The food was excellent. It was cooked how we asked. The desert was incredible and all good value for money. The service was fun and entertaining and everyone friendly. We had such a lovely time and plan to return again soon.

Visited for the first time today..and so glad we chose this place. Lovely country pub where we received a very warm welcome. The food was superb...I had the beef bourguignon..the beef was so tender with the best creamy mash. We will definitely be visiting again

This must have been taken over recently. There are two very polite new barmaids who don't know a lot but they give everything a go and check if they're not sure. I beleive one is the daughter of the landlord. There was only one meal choice, a burger. The past reviews shown amazing food so was very disappointed in this. It was nothing special. I hope this is teething issues as its my first visit to what is a very nice venue and location

Sorry we had a really disappointing meal at the Maltsters recently, we ordered the Burger which looked so unappetising as it arrived on the plate with a bucket of chips along with a small burger in a bun with a slice of tomato , NO coleslaw , onion rings cheese , bacon or salad . The meal looked sad with no effort in presenting a nice meal. The puddings were also that small it was not worth the money we paid . We left very disappointed and hungry. The staff were friendly but not very attentive and didn't ask us if wanted more drinks. The Pub could really do with finding a decent chief that will turn the place back into a good eating pub to draw people back in as it is I couldn't recommend

Lovely pub. The new team are brilliant. Megan, Zach, Evan and Simon are all really friendly. Great customer service. The food is brilliant - the dishes we had were all home made, delicious, and reasonably priced. Nice big garden, dog friendly, and they do a good pub quiz too. Recommended!

Good food but really poor portion sizes for the Sunday roast

Disappointed we were not told when ordering oue mains that there are no puddings as chef has no stock as menu is changing. I felt was pretty poor all round, communication, average roast, seriously shrunk meal, a tiny yorkshire pudding. Best to ring ahead. Cannot recommed to friends anymore. Staff were nice.

Perfect break away from the day to day grind, wanted a lovely little area to go with our dog and relax and this couldn’t have been any better! Megan and Zach are great hosts and doing an amazing job, couldn’t recommend this highly enough, thank you and your family for a lovely few days break. Keep up the great work

Fantastic pub! Great service and ambience. We had amazing home-made nachos as a starter followed by a delicious wild mushroom & spinach risotto. Highly recommended.

Friendly staff but pub lacked customers. No real ale, two beers on tap were awful. Had to drink lager which was good but expensive 😫 car park is rather on the small side. Food that passed me looking very good 👍 Would return if real ales are introduced 🤔. Captain Quick.

Nice beer garden, and also for the musicians there's a few guitars available for anyone who wants to strum! Three decent beers on draught but would have been nice for a bit more choice

Had a lovely lunch in the pub garden. Gemma was working solo and was rushed off her feet. She still gave excellent customer service regardless.

It was out first time there and I have to say it was excellent. The staff are so welcoming , friendly and attentive . Even though it was a reduced menu the choices were great and the food itself was very very good. We would highly recommend , well done!!!

A hidden gem! What a perfect country pub and restuarant. Staff were really nice and friendly (even letting us try some experimental cocktails), food was excellent and far exceeding typical pub food expectations. Great choice of beers and drinks and set in a lovely little village. Highly recomend, will certainly be going many more times.

This is the second time we have eaten at the Malsters and both times have been impeccable food and service. It’s rare to find a pub nowadays that nails both food and service so I’m pleased we’ve found a gem! Thank you!

Went here for a Sunday roast a few weeks ago and it was one of the best roasts I’ve ever had! Delicious beef, crispy potatoes, great veg and even pigs in blankets. The service was fantastic and the pub had a really warm, friendly atmosphere. Perfect after a walk in Badby woods. Will definitely be back!

Had Sunday lunch with my Son and two friends last week, not cheap but Probably one of the best roast lamb Sunday lunches I have ever had, beautifully cooked and plenty of it for the hungry. Complements to the Chef
