This is a good honest pub, no frills and perfectly positioned on the quay at Clovelly. The menu is quite small, but I think this enables the chef to ensure the highest standards and super quick service. The staff are friendly and welcoming, highly recommend.

We did not stay at the hotel but went for dinner at the upstairs restaurant. Arrived at our appointed time, and didn’t get served until over an hour later. Drinks took a 1/2 hour. There were only a handful of other diners. Service was poor, food underwhelming and overpriced.

Stopped in here for drinks and lunch. All in plastic cups and takeaway containers for some reason. When we arrived there was quite loud music playing, but soon was replaced by conversation of customers, however then the staff turned the music up so loud that no one was able to talk… food was average at best unfortunately. Nice location, but that’s the only thing it’s got going for it.

Tourist trap.. charging you £20 for Haddock but serving you the £14 cod.. when confronted, they insisted the cod in my plate is in fact Haddock 😂😂😂 Avoid at all costs!

The Red Lion Hotel in Clovelly is truly unique as it is practically built on the harbor wall. The hotel offers free on-site parking and also provides entrance tickets to Clovelly's museums and attractions. Our room was beautifully decorated and had a great view of the small harbor. The hotel has two restaurants and a pub, which provides culinary variety. The stylish furnishings and excellent location make the hotel a perfect base for exploring Clovelly on foot. There are no negative points to mention as our stay was perfect overall.

Clovelly is an area of outstanding beauty and you couldn't ask for a better place to stay and enjoy it from than The Red Lion Hotel. We stayed in one of the terraced rooms overlooking the sea and were dazzled by the sleek, modern design of our room that was both cosy and luxurious. The en-suite bathroom was spacious with a bath and shower, and excellent water pressure, hot and cold. We were happy to find complimentary biscuits and hot chocolate in the room. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We had variations on smoked salmon on toast/English muffins, with scrambled/poached eggs, cereal, yoghurt, fruit salad, fruit juice, coffee, and toast with Nutella. It was awesome, makes me happy just thinking about it. Thanks for a lovely stay. PS. To the Red Lion, if you're feeling competitive, there was one other hotel on our trip that stood up to your impressive standard because they put pillow chocolates on the bed and actually had an espresso machine in the room. How mad is that? Your hotel is already pretty much perfect, but it would be even perfecter if there was chocolate and espresso. :D

I'm sorry to write this as you have obviously spent money to upgrade the inside of the pub and touches like your games cupboard are a lovely idea, however like the previous reviewer we will no longer be coming to the Red Lion while you have this policy of disposable crockery and cutlery . Taking refreshments is as much about the ceremony of pouring tea brewed with boiling water from a teapot- being handed a disposable cup filled from a push button machine is a very different experience and not for us. I would also suggest that the huge television screen is unnecessary in a pub in such a beautiful location. Hoping this might be seen as constructive feedback so that we can return to your lovely pub.

We stayed at the Red Lion for 1 night for our mini moon mid week. When arrived we were already known by the Land rover crew as the honeymoon couple which was very sweet. When checking into the hotel we were upgraded to room 5 (apparently the best room in the hotel as it has a balcony too). The views from the room were stunning. The decor and the room fragrance smell was just amazing!!! So much detail had gone into it. The staff were genuinely really nice and helpful which went a long way. Lunch in the harbour bar (takeaway): A little over priced but super tasty! The chips were so good. Dinner in the restaurant: Tried lobster for the first time. You can see where they fish for them so the mileage to plate is nothing. Presentation and flavours of food were sxrummy. Breakfast in the restaurant: Continental to help yourself too and hot food ordered via waitress. Good quality ingredients again and very full by the end Recommendations: - would have liked a full length mirror to be more easily accessible in the wardrobe as the door didn't open a huge way. -thicker pillows -Hall way light to be automatic as it lit up the room a lot -toilet roll holder to be in a different place as it was hard to get out of the shower when damp.

Really expensive for a pint. They didn't have enough outdoor tables (and it wasn't busy at all), so we had to sit on the wall on the narrow path bit and someone walked past and knocked my completely full pint over by accident, it completely wasnt there fault. I also had no where else to put it. The bar lady, who also sounded pretty fed up, didnt replace it or even give a half replacement which i thought was a bit mean, especially since actually that was a lottt of money for most people for a pint in a plastic cup and with no where to actually put it down for a second. I definitely won't go back there because it upset me how unaccommodating they felt.

Rarely write reviews about anything to do with hospitality, but I was very much looking forward to my Chinese treat tonight. Instead I recieved sickeningly oily (egg fried) rice with no egg🙄 raw and chewy cold meat wonton parcels, and the chicken balls would have passed if the whole meal didn’t suck. Everything went in the bin. Will not order from here again.

Bit of a crummy place, overpriced, right on a rather noisy and busy junction, and we felt they were a little bit racist towards one of our party to be honest.

The best Thai food in the area! Warm welcome, helpful service and really delicious homemade Thai food all freshly prepared. Really generous portions too. We had spring rolls, fish cakes and chicken satay followed by veg stir fry, pad Thai, and Thai green curry, all brilliant. Definitely go, it is all that the other reviews rave about.
