This is a proper pub with a great landlord. The Guinness is spectacular he knows his cellar craft. So welcoming and warm spirited...

Loved the place. As an English rugby supporter who spent the night there after the 6 nations victory, I couldn't have felt more welcome. Craig and Joshua behind the bar were superb and despite being very busy, the wait for a drink was minimal.

Great beers and cider. Traditional pub.

What a great boozer. Popped in for a quick pint but ended staying for a couple as the atmosphere was so warm. Wished I had time to stay longer. Old school style pub and mean that in the most positive of ways. I'll be going back for sure!

The Red Lion is a proper boozer. Great staff. Owned and managed by Craig. Wonderful sports coverage , particularly rugby. Very friendly and welcoming... forgot to mention the very well kept beers and Cask Ales.

We often go here, it our local. It is very welcoming to regulars and newcomers alike. Craig takes the time to feel the atmosphere and plays the music as well as serving everyone. He puts up the volume and makes the atmosphere for his customers. He also has some people who do catering for parties. And the food they provide is very good. All in all, the Red Lion has the best of everything. A lot of people choose thus as a venue for weddings and parties of all types. Well done 👏

Traditional wet pub (no routine food) Very inclusive and friendly. Pints of beer from £4.10 Craig is a proper hands-on landlord who could teach a lot in his profession. He is good at making all welcome and serves a diverse crowd of regulars and visitors. The pub is lively at weekends but can close early on weekdays if empty.

Probably my favourite pub experience of the past 20 years. If you don't understand what a "proper pub" is, then don't go here! Superb beer. Superb service. Friendly (even to this English interloper) and with their own genuine Vic Reeves style pub singer!! Great music Football on (but quiet). Lovely crowd of people. Thank you to the Red Lion for making my single night in Newport a memorable one.

Visited the pub when I went to see my girlfriend and its an absolutely amazing place everyone is so friendly was made to feel welcome the atmosphere is amazing and staff are very welcome great choices of drinks and the music is brilliant, it's like a family and I felt part of it the first time I went in ,graig the landlord is a great guy and I would highly recommend if you are ever in Newport to go in and enjoy a drink and the atmosphere can't wait to go back again and again 😀

I visited this pub which is handy for Newport Countys Football club on Saturday 9th October 2021 This pub serves a adequate range of real ales and has a good local following nice locals and staff on my visit Good real ale pub in Newport I again visited this great on Saturday 11th 2023 This pub had 3 real ales on was very lively tonight and there was loud heavy rock music played😁 this is a great locals pub if not many real ales on it is a proper British locals pub well done all involved Saturday 23rd September 2023 Today i came again to this Real ale pub in Newport This pub has a good range of real ale on The staff in here are great nice locals and a pleasant drinking pub. This is the definition of a proper British pub. It's got the look, the smell, and the funny and awesome people that staff it! The drinks here are great but even greater are the prices. Definitely worth a visit for one or two whilst watching some sport on the big TVs they have.

An excellent traditional town centre pub. Real ale served well by a friendly and helpful barman. It also has a lovely open fire. Very welcoming

Went in to meet friends to get a seat to watch the rugby was greeted by the rudest man behind the bar who was clearly having a bad day.

Ok pub but nowt to shout about.

This pub is lovely, Ginnie who runs it is a very lovely lady, she's very laid back and respectful, her doggies are lovely, too, and it seems that she doesn't have any issues with dogs in the premises (obviously you'd want to ask her if she's okay though, as you would anywhere else), plus the alcohol is lovely and the locals are, too! You can have a right laugh with both Ginnie and the locals.
