Great pub. Good {sometimes adventurous) food, lovely people. My local so I'm biased! 6 out of 5

Popped in for afternoon food and a pint had the gammon egg and chips was very nice and very tasty all for under £20

We’ve had the most wonderful day/ evening. Staff are fantastic and the food was so yummy. I highly recommend this pub.

100% recommend going! The food is amazing and the staff are brilliant! Car parking is limited but can park alongside the green. Lots of sitting inside and out. Would recommend booking inside as it gets busy

A really lovely pub, serving lovely food in a great location. We ate here on a Friday evening - it was busy inside and out and apparently it often is on a Friday evening so book ahead. The pub has a small main area with a couple of smaller rooms off to the side. The food and service was excellent and there was a good atmosphere - some of the tables are small for 2 people however I would highly recommend this pub and will be eating there again The squid starter is amazing - it was cooked really well in a nice light batter and the sautéed leeks and chilli with sweet chilli sauce were the perfect accompaniments I had a really tasty sweet potato, chickpea and spinach curry as a main which comes with basmati rice and poppadoms and although the curry comes in a small dish it is more than filling. The Caesar salad was great too - another diner nearby ordered the fish pan (prawn, squid and mussels with rice I believe) which looked amazing but a bit pricey at £26.50 - apparently they have a fish night and it is cheaper on that night The sticky toffee pudding is wonderful too - sweet and rich with lots of sauce and a good ice cream. The service was excellent and everyone was friendly. There isn't a lot of parking right outside - you can park alongside the common which is no more than 200-300m away depending on time of day. This is a lovely pub on any day - I can imagine on a sunny afternoon or evening it would be perfect

Busy in a pleasant way for a Wednesday evening, some dinners indoors, some locals outside, dog friendly, lovely attentive staff.. We popped in for a swift one, but will be popping back for a couple, and a bite to eat

was ok had nice meal but sat outside and was cold after being served by 3 people 4 times young girl then told us there was blankets!! why someone could not of told is earlier I don't know! bit slow order being taken and did ask for a starter to be brought with the main but it was nbought first, then ong wait between courses and notvery quick to clear away, but food was hot and good, had a roast beef was n8ce but belly pork was spiced which was a bit weird for a roast. wine was nice. not very good vegetarian selection

Highly recommend. Service and staff are excellent and fabulous food. The crispy squid was so good, followed by a perfectly cooked fillet steak (weds offer of 2 steak meals and a bottle of wine) then finished with the best sticky toffee pudding I have tasted. So glad we went, recommend booking as it was busy on a Wednesday night.

Steak night on Wednesday... My husband had a lovely steak and chips However my pan-fried plaice was disappointing. It was a few scraps of poached plaice with and roast potatoes not crushed new potatoes as described on the specials board. Please remember we have a choice of 30 restaurants within 3 miles and do not need to be treated like idiots. The server insisted they were how they served it but at 19 a pop not acceptable at all. The boy server was tremendously helpful. I feel compelled to share this as lately their service has been lacking. At 95 £ lots of better establishments around.

After a nice group walk in the nearby Penn Woods.. 20 of us went here for a bank holiday lunch. Food was great.. the staff were attentive. Highly recommend this friendly venue!

We were a party of 12 for lunch on Saturday March 16th. We didn't have to wait long for our food. It was hot, well cooked and unusually everyone was more than satisfied. The service came with a smile and we will be coming again. It really did make a nice change for our regular annual gatherings to have been so good. Thank you one and all for a great lunch. Oh and we'll done chef!

We had a wonderfully delicious experience here last night. The ambience and service was excellent and the food was fantastic. We both had fish dishes and the fish was incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend, and will definitely go back.

Burgers at this restaurant have gone down hill since they got rid of the brioche buns :((( that being said, service and vibes were phenomenal. #BringBackBrioche

Popped in one lunchtime for some food. Great service with food to match. Really enjoyed ourselves and agreed that we received good value for money.

Lovely inside, candles on the tables a very cosy local atmosphere it is popular with locals. "Dogs and Ducks Welcome", as long as they are well behaved - someone had a gorgeous pup in there, not a peep from them. Starters were lovely, went in as a group, whitebait and calamari was well portioned, so much so I felt two croquettes a little measly. Mains were very good with healthy portion sizes, the fish especially was quite large, although the peas weren't great. I have to say the chips are fantastic (you get them with the burger as well) and are easily demolished. The Caesar salad was alright, although you'd need to like anchovies and boiled eggs. In all cases I would recommend asking for extra sauce, be it tartar or ketchup. Puddings, again, were really good - had apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding. I would say however that they could be more generous with custard. Limited parking out front, just enough to accommodate people inside but if it's summer there wouldn't be enough parking for inside and out. A lot of people walk in the summer, and there's some parking opposite by the pond. As it is an old building filled with as many tables as is practical I would say it's not wheelchair friendly, there's no designated disabled parking space either.

Very enjoyable lunch in a nice traditional pub

Great atmosphere, delicious food and brilliant customer service. I've been here a few times during the summer for drinks and decided to visit for dinner on a Friday evening. So good to see a few decent vegetarian/vegan options on the menu as that's hard to come by compared to other local pubs. Customer service was absolutely brilliant. Friendly, welcoming and happy to recommend different items on the menu.

I was absolutely knocked out by the food and service. I booked a table the night before and was pleasantly surprised that it was "Steak night." The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly, polite and efficient.

Great place, amazing atmosphere, great food, I didn't like the pasta for kids. Even my son didn't eat, it was too much meat, on it, tastes OK but too heavy meal for kids. My burger was delicious, and hallumi salad was delicious.

Good village pub - good beer and food with very friendly and attentive staff. There are specials nights eg Wednesday is steak night (2 + bottle of wine) which are good value.

Extremely friendly staff - didnt just take our orders, but actually took time to have a conversation, which just made us feel welcome. Good selection of food and vegetarian options as well. Food was excellent and the portions were generous. If you come by car, then parking may be a bit of an issue if it's busy (you may have to park a bit down the road). But that's really minor if you consider all the pros - the Red Lion is highly recommended.

Rebellion Ale on tap, what more could you ask for? Very pleasant staff, good choice of food (amazing chips) Decor good, but they need to move that sofa so it's in front of that lovely fire, it would feel more homely then.

Lovely summer sun trap with great view of the pond and long evening sun. Staff are really nice. Lots of enthusiasm

Lovely pub right on the village green. Friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Good range of beers and looks like it has a lovely big log burner for the colder months, nice garden and seating outside.

It's a much improved venue now. The food quality is tastier, and the team deliver great service. The manager, Lucy, is extremely accommodating when making bookings and always greets you warmly. Thank you to the team at The Red Lion at Penn!

Really friendly and welcoming staff x had a few Sunday lunches here since we moved into area and all excellent x listen if you ask for well done roasties and gravy a bit thicker x look forward to using pub garden in the summer x

My son in law refused a drink for unknown reason we won't be going back spoilt my birthday don't bother with this pub as we won't.

We have lived 10 minutes from The Red Lion in Penn for nearly 25 years now and it is great place to stop for food and drink. With the village pond and common out front and open countryside out back, it is well situated for walkers, cyclists and families. Decor is cosy and the welcome is friendly. A dog friendly pub too! Brunch today was well served, reasonably priced and delicious. Parking out front for a dozen cars or so, or at the side of the common.

Superb place, squid was delicious get the mushroom toast also never managed to get the pictures as was quite hungry. The mains was a Double Beef Burger and this was MASSIVE 2 huge pattys juicy and just pure quality beef (just look at the picture will say it all) You need to be hungry for this as I just managed to eat this butwas worth every bite I didn't let the burger beat me. Skinny chips are the best here definitely was a good call . Superb place and also dog friendly Great atmosphere and has open fire so perfect for winter time

Always such a warm and inviting welcome at the Red Lion and they are also dog friendly, which is a bonus for me!. From steak night to moroccan night the food is beautifully made and so tasty and of course they do the best Sunday lunch in Bucks!

My Wife and me have just been to the Red Lion in Penn. We both haven't been in there for around 30yrs. What a pleasant surprise. The ambience of the whole place is lovely. We both had Sunday lunch and my Beef was superb. The puddings were delicious. I recommend the Bread and butter pudding ( to die for). The service was excellent and very attentive. All in all a very nice experience. Will be making this our local go to place for Sunday Lunch Thanks Guys Great work

Very lovely countryside pub. Lots of outdoor seating for sunny days and dog friendly. Prices are not that bad. Parking can be a bit tricky though. Reservations are advisable.

Fantastic pub. Lovely atmosphere and building. The garden is excellent with views out onto the common. Staff are well trained and the landlady is friendly and welcoming.

Great pub with very friendly staff. We had a brunch meal there in a Saturday and it was a very nice meal that arrived quickly and tasted very nice. The staff are all very friendly and the pub is very clean. I would highly recommend to anyone for a drink or a meal.

Good atmosphere for a drink. Food was a little slow husband had a burger which was really good. My pasta dish was bland prawn arrabbiata should be fiery and chilli not just tomato flavour would ho again staff all very pleasant .

It is a nice place generally with a nice garden and lovely interior inside. The food was very tasty. However the service needs improvement. It took more than an hour to get our food and when we got our desert we were waiting forever for the spoons.

Despite being by the side of a busy road, the garden is very well designed with tiki huts with cushions, heaters and pull down screens incase of bad weather. Bar and waiting staff all very friendly and attentive. With music playing, nice sunny day it’s a lovely place to sit!

If you're ever in Penn, avoid the Royal Standard of Englad pub and absolutely come here!!! The Red Lion is the absolute opposite. All the waitresses were extremely attentive, professional and caring. Super positive attitude and spot on customer and waiting services. We felt taken care of the whole time. The food is AMAZING, massive compliments to the chefs! Even as a mistake was made which was partly our fault, they still took a drink off our bill and were so quick to rectify the error. Really impressed. Thank you for a perfect experience!

Went to The Red Lion at Penn for an evening meal with two family members on a Saturday. We were warmly greeted, had a good choice of main meals and thoroughly enjoyed it. Will go back and would recommend.

Best pub in the village, only negative is there is not a lot of seating and people book so chances of a table on a Saturday are dubious if you did not plan ahead mid week Going beer and restaurant quality food make this an obvious choice if you are in the area

The Red Lion is a wonderful pub, full of character and serves the tastiest food. Glorious Lou who runs the pub is helpful, kind and full of charisma. She has put together a brilliant team and pours the best local Ale. Couldn't love this place anymore!

Linda and I went there with some friends for a mid-week lunch after a nice long walk, and I have to say, we were all very impressed. The lady who served us was 1st class in that she had a lovely bubbly personality, was professional in her approach, gave us prompt service, checked with us to make sure what we got was up to standard. Great food, great atmosphere, lovely staff, I have to say Sean and Vanessa have done a wonderful job in making this experience into something special - Highly recommended.

Oh dear, what a pity. Really looking forward to Sunday lunch with family and friends. Location excellent, staff friendly throughout but very disappointed with the roast beef meal, etc. Could not cut beef with knife, unbelievably tough. Changed for lamb but not much improvement, fatty and stringy. Why? Did other customers on same day have same poor quality of roast meat? Also 3 children's menu of chicken goujons not good. Well overcooked with chicken inside also very dry so most of them left. Hopefully this was a one off! The Red Lion is a lovely pub, in a fantastic environment, so we will revisit in the future.

Cosy friendly pub that does lovely fish and chips in two sizes. Also has a brunch menu Tuesday to Saturday TIL 2pm with full English or lighter options like eggs Benedict smoked salmon etc. Great location opposite the duck pond and the bus stop if you can’t drive!! Also nice walk behind the pub with kids dogs etc.

Excellent food and wine. Rebellion beer extremely drinkable. The new landlady has changed The Red Lion into a really good friendly place.
