Great pub! Just walked in to a welcoming reception and was served a great pint and smokehouse food - beef, pork - delicious. Dog friendly. People friendly. What’s not to like!

We live locally and have driven past many times. Called in for lunch one Friday. Very welcoming staff. We opted for the philly cheese steak and BBQ pulled pork with pitta breads. The food was excellent and of a generous sized helping. No room for a dessert - sadly. All told excellent all round.

Excellent roadside local pub. Staff are very hospitable. Ervice is very good. I think the menu I'd a bit limited as I don't like burgers and not keen on smoked dishes. But the steaks are great, some of thd best I've had.

We live local to the red lion as we only live in Winfrith. We have always been made to feel extremely welcome everytime we go in. Lizzy Alan and all thier staff are all very friendly. The best part is the fact that it is a very dog friendly pub. The food is very good. Would definitely keep going back

We have visited a few times since moving to Dorset, and we're never disappointed. The food is always tasty and plentiful. There's a nice choice of local ciders. Lizzie is so welcoming and lovely.

We happened across this pub on the way back from Durdle Door- gluten free options were clearly marked on the menu which was very helpful, and the food and service were both incredible. They also had a 'dog menu' with treats for little friends, so the dog was very happily chomping on a pig ear while we got our food. The barbecue sauce, 'saucy pig', was lovely, the seasoned fries were really nice, and the smoky barbecue flavoured meat was amazing- the chicken skin was crispy and delicious, and was possibly the best meal I have had out in a decade. It was around £20 each for the smokehouse meat and fries, with plenty for the money. All of the staff were really helpful and friendly, if we are in the area we would definitely go back- really highly recommened

Me and my friend stayed here for a night while climbing in Dorset. Super friendly helpful staff, they accommodated our last minute booking without problems. We stayed for dinner, really good veggie options. The pub was very vibrant and we had a lovely evening there. The facilities were super clean too. We will be staying again.

We were stopping over in the campsite on the back and came in for dinner. We were treated to a special smoked harissa lamb pitta board. More than enough for one a unique spiced meaty meal. Traditional fair was also available and a quality steak and ale pie with mash was also had. This was all complimented by friendly staff in a traditional local pub setting. Dogs also welcome with treats available. Don’t just drive by.

Andy and his daughter went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The young gents behind the bar were super friendly, yet professional. The menu was fairly basic but definitely a case of doing what you know extremely well. We were so impressed by the food and the staff that we returned the next night and we were equally delighted. Although I'm local i hadn't visited The red lion for many years, so we thought we would give lunch a go. Front of house staff very good, but sadly the food a big let down! Overcooked chicken rubberised, could not put a knife through it, shame as meal looked good, lesson learned!!!

What a wonderful pub, lovely food and wonderful attentive staff. We were staying for a few days in Winfrith with our Red Fox Labrador [Hazel], and this pub was an easy 10 minute walk away from our holiday cottage. We went to the pub for Breakfast each day and ate Dinner there in the evenings, the staff made us and our dog feel at home, they even provided a bed for Hazel and gave her some treats. Breakfast was a lovely full English, and there was enough choice on the menu to have something different each evening. I needed to find accommodation and food for my work colleague and myself locally due to needing an extra day on the site in Bovington. I was lucky as I have family and friends in the area, so have seen the really nice comments about the food the pub now serves. We stayed one night and the rooms were spotless, clean and just what we needed for the night. We decided to eat in the pub and all I can say is the food, Ales, staff and hospitality was just outstanding. Nothing was a problem and we had a lovely evening chatting with the staff and also had an old school friend of 30 years pop in, because he was passing by. Breakfast was perfect and set us up for the day ahead and then travel back to London. We will be staying here again without a doubt Please just keep up the good work and using all the fabulous local ingredients.

Went to the pub mainly for drinks but decided to have some food while we was there. Also was quiz night which made it a great night. My husband had fish and chips and said it was lovely. I just had a portion of chips so can’t really so much on mains. We followed this with toffee apple crumble which was to die for. This was a special they change the choice of crumble all the time. This isnt our only time visiting as live in the village. Lizzy, Alan and all the staff alway make everyone feel very welcome. If you have dogs these are especially also made very welcome, with dog treats and they’re own beds to lie on for your visit. Love going to the red lion and will definitely be visiting again.

On arriving at the Red Lion the staff were incredibly welcoming, warm and friendly. The food was fantastic, 2 out of 3 of us are vegetarian and there was a more than usual amount of choices which was great. Overall the food was delicious, the staff lovely and the atmosphere very relaxed and welcoming. The food felt like it had been cooked from scratch and seemed fresh. Really great place would definitely recommend.

Had a meal here last night, what a wonderful welcome we received from the host, both us and our dog. The food was excellent and came promptly, lovely burgers and chips. Will visit again and for dog family totally recommend.

This pub looks lovely from the outside and so we expected a really good menu. We were disappointed as it consisted of burgers, hot dogs and very run of the mill food. We both chose the scampi and chips with peas. It was okay but the peas weren’t garden peas and very bland. The service from the waitress was quite good but we had to wait ages for the food. We decided to try a dessert and ordered apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding but after waiting 30 minutes thought we would just give up and leave. We paid at the bar just as the waitress arrived from the kitchen with our desserts but we were so fed up and annoyed, we didn’t bother. The pub wasn’t particularly busy and the menu was easy cooking so couldn’t understand such long waits. Would never return.

Came for a family meal during our recent holiday, there's a decent range of options available, I personally ordered the rump steak cooked rare. The steak was a good colour and very tasty, definitely not overdone, and the chips were good. For where we were staying this was a convenient location and all the food we ordered was very enjoyable, recommended if you're in the area.

Visited this charming establishment following a trip to Durdle Door and was instantly captivated by the warm ambiance and hospitable staff. The pub itself exudes a delightful coziness that makes you feel right at home. As for the cuisine, the portions were so generous that I found no need to eat for the remainder of the day. Though I’m not a local, I would unquestionably return to this remarkable venue if I find myself in the area again. An unequivocal 10/10.
