Decided to come here to meet friends as the parking is ample and the reviews were good. Wow, it did not disappoint…. Our server was Charlotte. She was very attentive and her attitude towards my ‘picky eater’ friend (who bombarded her with questions) was admirable. She also made the best cocktails. Thank you for making our annual meet up so memorable. Highly recommend this place.

This place never fails and Dan, Andy, Sophie, Suzie, Emily and all the front of house team were really great. The food was cooked to perfection and we (almost) licked our plates clean. There is a choice of eating in the restaurant or the bar and, although the restaurant looked really lovely, we chose the latter. It had a great atmosphere and we cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Tasty food, good atmosphere, pleasant decor and lovely friendly service from everyone we interacted with. Andy mainly looked after us and has a lovely way about him with a great sense of humour. He was fantastic with our kids too. They were acknowledged and made to feel special. I've visited 3 times over the past few months and he's delivered the same genuine friendly service each time. The food has really improved and the 3 meals I've eaten have all been excellent. The Sunday roast is very good, particularly the pork and delicious crackling. Lovely Yorkshire Puddings too. I'd thoroughly recommend the scallop starter. It's mouthwateringly good. Can't wait to return.

We booked the pub for our wedding reception for 35 people. A 3 course meal with multiple food options. All the food was absolutely amazing and all our guests were glowing in regard to the quality of the food served. We set the room how we wanted it the night before with the assistance of Andy. On the day Sophie came in especially even though she was meant to be on holiday and catered for our every need ensuring the day went smoothly. I cannot thank all the staff on the day and prior to the day. Just fantastic service thank you so much for making our day extra special.

Fabulous food, excellent service by Andy who was welcoming, knowledgable and helpful. Requested a quiet table and that is exactly what we got but still had atmosphere as the setting is stunning.

It’s been a while since I’ve been here and a return visit was long overdue. A recent cosy Friday night catch up with friends didn’t disappoint. The pub was busy but service was excellent for both drinks and food. The menu hadn’t changed that much since I was last here. It’s good British inspired pub food in the main with one or two Asian inspired choices as well.My steak pie and mash was excellent. My wife’s fish and chips got her seal of approval and the dishes our guests ordered also hit the spot. Nice dessert choices as well and a nice touch I like where, if you are a bit stuffed after your main course, you can order a mini dessert and a coffee. If you are in the West Sussex area looking for a decent country pub that offers good food in a nice atmosphere then The Red Lion is a worthy choice.

Absolutely stunning meal and brilliant service. The scallops were absolutely incredible and the steak was cooked to perfection. Andy was the consummate professional host and made sure we were happy at all points of our meal, along with some good comedy comments too. We have already booked to go back on Friday for dinner. It’s a lovely ambiance and well staffed, dog friendly (not in the restaurant part) with ample parking.

Best experience always. Have been to The Red Lion Handcross several times and every time we visit from abroad, it’s always a priority to stop by for Sunday roast or dinner. First time bringing our baby who is treated like a little prince and entertained by Andy and the lovely girls working here. Food is top notch, service is beyond and atmosphere keeps us coming back again and again. It’s just like coming home ♥️

Large village pub favoured with a very ample car park. The pub itself is interestingly half-tiled externally but a little gloomy inside on what was a dull February lunchtime. The restaurant area was certainly more capacious than I realised, and something must be going right here because every table was taken. The menu demonstrated some adventurous options but we wanted something rather more conventional, albeit more than just a flying lunch. So the pork belly option fitted the bill and I have to say that it was considerably better than most pub efforts. Attractively presented and very tender with a strip of melted fat plus a separate portion of crispy, latticed crackling. Plenty of gravy and a nice firm slab of dauphinoise potatoes. Couldn't fault it at all, in fact quite impressive. No complaints from Mrs EPR either as her generous gammon and chips plus two fried eggs and a pineapple ring was certainly good value. Just about room for dessert, and I would definitely recommend the chocolate bomb enhanced by the theatrical pouring of a jug of hot caramel sauce for full effect. Mrs EPR not so enthused as her apple and damson crumble was almost entirely lacking in damsons. Nonetheless, a very satisfying pub lunch all round and it certainly exceeded my expectations. The two young ladies working the tables were busily efficient and, in fact, the whole place seemed to be running like clockwork; quite commendable considering the volume of punters. Finally, the bill was surprisingly economic considering the pretty high standard all round. We'll certainly be returning - and booking a table in advance

This is a fantastic pub for food. I've been going here for over 5 years. The whole menu is great the ambience and atmosphere also lovely and good selection of wines. My son and family adore their fish and chips! Sublime not greasy and it is huge beer battered to perfection. I've tried many a fish and chips dedicated establishment that are so called 'award winning' and I leave with a greasy ill feeling in my stomach not this place it's 10/10 oh by the way sticky toffee pudding oh my god !!

We were taking our grandchildren to Nymans Gardens in Handcross and wanted to eat nearby. We were keen to have a Sunday roast and found the Red Lion on the internet, which was just across the road. The staff were very welcoming and the restaurant was warm, clean and comfortable. The food came quite quickly and was exceptional. We all had the roast Sirloin with all the trimmings including Yorkshire puddings that were nearly the size of the plate and were so light and crisp. The Sirloin was very tender and there was quite a lot of it. Everything on the plate was delicious and we ate it all. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area.

Proper Sunday Lunch. We wanted roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, toasties and thick gravy. It was delicious. Just as importantly the service was immaculate and so friendly. We should have taken the name of the waitress who served us. Two cuts of beef that melted in your mouth along with all the trimmings. Good choice of well presented puds. We will go again. Congratulations to Red Lion.

Finding a good last minute place for a traditional Sunday roast is risky. However based on the online 4+ star reviews we booked with fingers crossed. On arrival Andy greeted us and lead us to our table. At that moment we new we were in the right place surrounded by old timber framed walls and ceilings and themed decor. Andy’s welcome chat and banter confirmed that he wanted us to enjoy our experience. We ordered drinks and perused the menu. Variations of a Sunday roast made our choice difficult as they all looked amazing. We weren’t disappointed when our food arrived and to use a popular phrase ‘it tasted as good as it looked’ a tradition English roast with all the trimmings. More banter with Andy when we ordered deserts and we left feeling full and our money well spent. We will be back for more very soon. Let’s go for a walk she says, but Baby it’s cold outside, well she won, and off we went. So glad we had to go past this place on our return trip home. She may have won the battle, but I won the war. So with a quick flanking motion that a blitzkerig raid would be proud of, we were inside toasty warm by the fire and with a pint of liquid nectar travelling down the old oesophageal pipe work, quicker than you can say “Jumpin Jack Flash”. There aren’t many places left in the SE that can dissolve any concerns or worries in a heartbeat, but the Red Lion in Handcross is one. From the friendly greet as you enter, the joyous and attentive staff make sure you are having good time, and if you need to warm the cockles n’muscles before heading home after a cold walk then this place is the place.

Hugely disappointing meal. Poor bar service, initially refused to accept my son's proof of age (24 yrs old) despite accreditation and date of birth evident. The starters (prawn dish) tasteless, the main (fillet steak) had to be returned as overcooked , and took an eternity to be replaced, rendering the family meal out of synchronisation. I would suggest giving this establishment a wide berth.

Dinner for six last night. Cosy bar area, for pre dinner drinks,lovely surroundings. Service was excellent, all plates were good, although the pork belly had to have another 5 minutes. Tbf it was pretty chilly in the restaurant due to the radiators not working, apparently waiting for an engineer to fix. The ladies had to eat in their outdoor coats. The kitchen closes at 20:30 so earlier bookings are advised. All in all a decent evening out. Oh, and the radiators were blazing away when we left. That’s some call out service 😅

Warm atmosphere in this pub with great service. I meet here regularly with friends and we're always made to feel welcome. It's not a problem to register your car on arrival, just tap your number into the screen at the entrance.

Took the family out for a meal in the evening, the food was fairly poor, there was 20 min wait to get a drink, one person working the bar, then about a month later i got a parking ticket, i had been here before and had no idea that there were restrictions now, it was dark and the signage is not clear unless you patrol the car park. i will never go there again, avoid the place and then you will not be disappointed.

Really nice atmosphere, and the food was much, much better than previous visits. Under new management they have definitely upped their game with great efforts to show consideration and care. We were celebrating our son's birthday and they hid the cake on our arrival, and brought it out with a secret nod when asked. The manager even ran into the rain soaked car park with a card we had left on the table.

Returned for Eccles cake with Stilton ice cream and Port gel , reservations destroyed, this was excellent!! Everything I wished for, excellent Eccles cake ,pastry divine, subtle Stilton crept from the ice cream at a perfect pace , and the port gel yummy !! Definitely a big grin dish 😋

Last minute booking with some friends and happy to say the evening didn't disappoint. Andy and his team looked after our table on what became a busy night. We were talked through the menu and all questions answered (some of us are fussy!) and all plates cleared (especially an amazing pie!). Will not hesitate in going again.

I have a wonderful meal every time I come here. I have allergies and find it difficult eating out but The Red Lion are really careful and considerate. Andy is usually there to take care of my order and goes over and above to make the experience as easy as and thoughtful as possible. Went today for an anniverary meal. Brilliant food and lovely helpful staff. Been here several times and would thoroughly recommend. They operate a numberplate system for the car park so when you go in you enter your reg number into their computer. Its really easy and I counted 10 signs telling you what to do. Brilliant.

Excellent roast dinners and burgers. Had asked to be near the disabled toilet but that’s not where we were sat apart from that our table was perfect. Staff were polite enough but other friendlier pubs in the area. Thank you for a lovely lunch!

Amazing afternoon/evening was had here at The Red Lion. We came here to spend a 70th birthday party with some friends and my first time here at the Red Lion, I always drive past this establishment and always wanted to go inside and pay a visit, until today (14 October 23). The pub is cute, very inviting, it draws you in actually. Friendly atmosphere. Staff are all very helpful and friendly, especially Andy. What a chap, he was absolutely amazing and totally looked after us all so well. Very friendly and very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for him. There was many of us and we all got served amazingly well, everyone was looked after, service was absolutely excellent. To be honest, I cannot fault the service at all today and the food was smashing! Everybody loved what they had, food was hot, tasty and looked delicious all round. I was on the Vegan/Plant based menu and was not disappointed. I am well impressed and so was everyone. The staff behind the bar was good too, made some good drinks for us. What an evening was had by us all, we were all very grateful and thankful for the service and good food. Thank you Andy for looking after our group so well and for your excellent service. All was very greatly appreciated. I will most certainly be back at some point soon. 👍🏾

Excellent meal, service and atmosphere. Went for a meal with family to celebrate my wife’s 70th birthday. Food was cooked & served perfectly. My wife’s desert was made special, with a “Happy Birthday” message and a candle. Andy, (the manager) was friendly and attentive, as were the other members of the staff. Highly recommended restaurant & we hope to go back.
