The Red Lion in Bedford

Went to The Red Lion, it's got a lovely big beer garden lots of families, the food was cheap pub grub which was nice, wasn't much of a wait, staff were very friendly I would go back.

If I could give a lower score I would food Dry under hot plate to long not on right plate and told to get own sauces when other tables get there’s. It’s places like this who can’t work out why they lose customers and and close down If they give better service they be ok

Very disappointed and let down on the one day I brought my parents, sister, nieces and uncle – especially after I'd been telling them how good it was. I ordered via the app. Starters arrived first, but the drinks didn’t show up until 15 minutes later. Then we had to wait 45 minutes for the mains. We didn’t bother ordering pudding – we ended up going to McDonald’s for a McFlurry instead. It’s a real shame, as the service has always been good in the past hence why I giving five stars. That said, the one waitress who seemed to be the only staff member working front of house was lovely – she smiled throughout, even though she was clearly rushed off her feet.

3 stars for Atmosphere but that's because I was the only one in at just gone 17:00 Called in for food while working in the area and a very nice home made shepherd's pie and vegetables. Followed with a pint of lemonade. Will I visit again, yes, if you're into home cooked good food suggest you do as well.

Stopped here for a spot of lunch over the weekend. Lovely vegan options, I had the Rainbow Lasagne. Friendly service, lovely setting.

We took the kids for Sunday lunch, the food was great, the service was great, an all round great day. The service really did stand out and it was a pleasure to eat and spend time there. We'll always pop in for food and drinks from now onwards

Frequented this pub for some time, and a great change in the atmosphere and the daily running of the venue has changed for the worse since new management. My personal view is that the staff and regular patrons are the ones keeping it from crumbling. -Update- From my last visit there has been a change in management and the pub seems to have turned around, good atmosphere and quicker service. I have not tried the food yet so not a 5 ☆ yet but I will add the star!

Nice Pub only came in for a drink and decent pint of Seaferers by Gales Only bad thing was state of door from Pub to Gents come on give it a look to match rest of premises

Excellent value for money on meals. The food was well presented, hot and freshly cooked. Enjoyed every mouthful.

Fantastic family meal at The Red Lion. We were 4 adults and 2 kids—steaks and burgers were spot on, Guinness was perfect. Vicky the landlady and Nicky in the kitchen nailed the fried onions. Steph and Charlotte behind the bar were friendly and fast. Great atmosphere, great food, great team. We’ll definitely be back!

I eat here quite regularly and the standard of food and service is always 5 star. The food is excellent and the staff are very efficient and helpful

Love the Red lion my go to pub,, celebrated my birthday and my sons here last month food as always was brilliant,, great service and staff are always polite and I love the atmosphere its always friendly a great pub to visit wether it's just a drink with friends or family meal

Great value for money. Friendly and attentive staff, nothing is ever to much. Karaoke end of every month as well as quiz nights.if you haven’t been then I highly recommend you do.

I came in here on Wednesday evening and the desserts were spectacular. We were served by two lovely ladies called Leah and Steph, both were so friendly and welcoming, despite us not having a booking. The environment was so lovely, both staff and other customers, overall an amazing place for both food and company. Steph made an extra effort to make sure we had everything we needed, and was super smiley☺️

Had a meeting here last week and was greeted and served by the lovely Maddy. Lovely environment, and great steak! Will be returning.

Organised my 50th birthday party with Vicci. Had staff member Tasha come in to help decorate room. She was amazing. Left her to finish and she did exactly what I asked. It looked beautiful. The chef cooked 24 meals which all came out at sane time. No errors. Hot tasty food. Amazing service from all staff. Vicki helped to organise everything. If you want a large party with food, good service and an amazing atmosphere this is the place to be. Picked the karaoke night (once a month) and this was run by Jay. He was excellent too. Zero complaints. Perfect pub to host big group. Can't thank the staff enough!

Since the ownership changed and Vicky has come in, the pub has changed for the better. All the staff are friendly and can't do enough for you, the menu has changed and the food is much better. The beer is also great. Good quiz and karaoke nights!

Had a wonderful meal yesterday and want to thank all the staff who went above and beyond to help with moving a chair out the way for my mum and helping us to put the pushchair so no one would trip and all the food was amazing and came about 10 mins after we ordered

Highly recommend, been coming here with family and children for the last 6 years. Always lovely welcoming staff members who go above and beyond, nothing is ever too much to ask. Food is tasty and any adjustments you need are catered for. We’ve had large family gatherings, family dinners, birthdays, and drinks. Pool table in the bar area, toy machines for the children and large garden with tables, huts and umbrellas for the summer. TVs in the bar and restaurant area for sports events, restaurant space away from tvs also. Christmas dinners and karaoke nights. Lovely family friendly atmosphere. They also have a large carpark! Can not fault them at all. Regular discounts emailed through sizzling pubs too which is a bonus! Thank you

We came in yesterday for lunch and were really impressed. We've been visiting the Red Lion for over 20 years and have seen many different owners, but the last few visits since the new owners have truly stood out. The staff were so friendly, and we were warmly welcomed by a lovely lady called Steph, who quickly got us seated. The menu was varied, and everyone's meals arrived quickly and we're piping hot. All the food was delicious but the chicken burgers were especially tasty. Compliments to the chef!! The waiter (Gareth) and waitress were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. We highly recommend and will be back soon!

I took my 14 year old Grandson for a meal last evening. He had a rump steak and said it was excellent!What can be better than that! I had beef lasagne which was also excellent! The staff were friendly and helpful. It was a real treat and we shall be back real soon

Been to the red lion many times, service and food is always great. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Plenty of outdoor sitting, but could do with a bit of a revamp, but not a major issue.

El lunes por la noche estaba bastante ocupado. Pedimos 2 filetes Rump de 8 oz, cocinados a la perfección, incluyendo una salsa de £ 12 cada uno! Tengo que ser honesto, más bien filete. Envié un mensaje al Chef, ¡probablemente los mejores filetes que he probado! Malbec grande £ 6 libras algo. REALMENTE INCREÍBLE Como también decir que jugué un par de juegos de billar con Daniel, en silla de ruedas. Solo iba a ser un partido, terminó al mejor de 3. ¡Alegre mi noche! Nos alojamos en el Holiday Inn Express, a menos de 2 millas de distancia. Vale la pena conducir... Este es un gran pub, que admite perros, personal amable y un CHEF IMPRESIONANTE!

We have had excellent meals the last 3 or 4 times and this week went with 4 friends. Meals were all good and excellent value for money. Waiting staff all very friendly.

Great value, nice staff even when very busy

We came here as a large group of 18 for an 18th birthday meal. We could not have been looked after better! They easily and without fuss catered for a member of our party in a wheelchair and all food was served hot and really fast! There was an unexpected treat when some carol singers arrived and we all had great fun joining in with the carols and they even sang a rousing ‘happy birthday’ to our son ! I think the lady who looked after us was called Vicky, she and the young lad who’s name I didn’t get were amazing and a real credit to the team, they were even happy to remove a rather bright lightbulb that was quite low over the table. Was a brilliant and fun evening, so much so we returned the next day for a quick drink! Well done to all and massive thank you for all your hard work!

We have just had our work Christmas outing for a group of 11 of us. Vicky was extremely accommodating when we requested specific tables and couldn’t do more to help us. The service at the bar and the waitress was excellent. The food was fresh and delicious! The improvement since Vicky and her husband took over The Red Lion is incredible! I recommend those that have had a bad experience to return and try it again with the new owners. Keep up the good work 🙂🙂

Hi The only reason we didnt score 5 is because the tables were a little too close to each other for easy access. Your restaurant is our go to place for evening meals out around Bedford.

The food was lovely but didnt like the chips they tasted. Like they have been warmed up my friend didnt like the steak too chewy

Great service from Tyler all evening dealing with a large table of 13 of us all having a three course meals. Quick and swift with service, made sure to clean the tables promptly in between courses so that we had room, as 13 people meant a lot of dishes here there and everywhere! Was very friendly and helpful to us all throughout the whole experience.

Back to it's best with the new management. Will be going back regularly again now.

Weeknight about 7pm, was quiet which is what I wanted that evening. Service was good. Staff was friendly and very helpful. The food was good and arrived at the table in good time.

Stopped dining at Red Lion because food was bad on 4 out of 4 occasions. But returned because had been told food had improved. Went on 16/10/24 and food was greatly improved would go again and recommend.

We used to go red lion and it was bad but now has completely turned around lovely atmosphere we got to meet new owners amazing people with wonderful personalities so happy red lion is back and thriving!

We had such a great time at ‘The Red Lion’! We were a group of 10, and from the moment we arrived, we felt so welcomed. The staff was super friendly and really made sure we were all taken care of, even with such a big group. The food was really good—everyone loved their meal, and the portions were perfect. It’s not always easy to find a place that handles bigger groups so well, but they nailed it. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Varied menu,quick service and great tasting food

Came Monday night after seeing the roaring fire on Facebook! The pub feels like a completely different place and what’s even better is they had so many ales to choose from which I don’t remember red lion ever doing clearly whatever’s happened needs to carry on thank you guys for a lovely evening WE WILL BACK!
